They climbed on top of the mat the kids and grandkids used to play on. Then a duck and her 7 ducklings did too, but I was paddling with my son-in-law and didn’t get a photo.

There was so much wildlife around the Ozarks. We saw a mink go into a hole lakeside below a cabin, but we were paddling a paddlewheeler and I didn’t have my phone with me to capture it. Deer were all over. A heron kept landing on gray rocks that I couldn’t capture either. A beaver was crossing the road. We even saw a family of wild boars in Texas on the way up there. And the swallows undercover at the Mexican restaurant.
We saw bats at night, leaving caves, and ducks and their ducklings. And carp at the lake below the cave we went through, and some other fish my granddaughter kept catching and releasing.
I’m off to work on more edits on Bear in Pursuit before my granddaughter arrives. We’re working on spelling, writing, reading, and math through the summer to get a head start on 4th grade. I’m so grateful she’s here for the summer like she has been every summer before I got so sick last year. So we’ve been working on HEB, Girl Scout, and library reading goals.
If I could, I’d take her swimming, but I can’t get into the water yet. Boo.

They were perfectly happy to watch all the patrons who were coming and going beneath them. I saw a huge nest, missed getting a photo of it, when I saw mom and dad nearby. We were dealing with terrific thunderstorms, but the birds were completely dry and happy!

Tiny itty bitty little mushrooms that popped up under the tomato plants. That means the soil is healthy! We had 1.5″ of rain yesterday, more coming.
I saw several bell peppers coming out too. I’ll take a picture when they’re a little bigger. I usually end up with one or two, so I was excited to see so many.
Managed to get some work done on the jaguar book, hand writing it so need to type up my notes. I might be up to 3,000 words, 77,000 to go!

Don’t you love it? I placed some Mother’s Day flowers in it, but need to get some flowers to put in it. I need to fill up one more “top” with dirt. I couldn’t lift the bag of dirt for the 4th tier so I had to scoop out potting soil from a bag and fill it up that way. I’ll have to do that with the last tier also.
I’m still dealing with a head cold so I do a little bit at a time. It was 93 yesterday, so I can’t work out in that heat once the temperature begins to rise, so trying to water and plant more tomato plants my daughter didn’t have room for her in her garden early in the morning.
I’m excited about the tower though! I put some flower seeds in some of the planting areas, but it will take a while for them to sprout. I also moved some bulbs that are not sprouting from another flowerbed into parts of the tower, hoping they will do better there. But I want instant gratification. lol So I need to buy some flowers for some of the parts. The Mother’s Day flowers won’t last and then I’ll replace them with flowers.

My daughter and I had seen these trees/shrubs at different places, and we both love purple flowers. It’s supposed to be drought-resistant when established. It’s known as a “pollinator queen,” attracting hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees. We bought them as shrubs because we couldn’t fit the ones trained as trees into her car. lol So we’re training ours into trees.
To begin with, it was just the little white blossoms until the flowers bloomed. I was afraid we’d gotten the wrong variety.
I’m hoping it continues to thrive through this summer and beyond!
Finished writing Bear in Pursuit and today I need to start reading it from beginning to end.
