Sometimes Change Can Be Good!

Tanner and Max looking innocent

Max and Tanner posing for the picture.

I have to say that I was having trouble getting the new smart phone (just because it’s smart, doesn’t mean the owner is just as savvy) to take the picture. The puppies were amazingly good about sitting still for Mommy to try and try, then look up to see what she was doing wrong, then try again.  What really gets their attention is the little tunes it makes when it takes the picture. But I really was amazed to see the fur detail on the puppies without any kind of photo enhancement. And the colors were amazing. Max is white but has a little bit of tan on his back. Tanner is black with both tan paws and beard and white streaks on his “bangs” and his chest is white. Usually when I take a picture of them in the house with my canon, Max turns beige. So it really did a terrific job on color and detail.

Tanner and my shoe

This was taken after the puppies came in from the wet grass–where their noses have to plow through looking for the right spot.

This morning, Tanner got hold of one of my shoes after I took him outside. Note the determined “This is Mine” look on his fuzzy little face. Now, just to clarify, Tanner never chews on my shoes, he just loves to grab them up and then wants to play tug-of-war with them. I tell him to “Drop it,” “Leave it,” but sometimes the quickest way to relieve him of my shoe is to just pick him up and he drops it. So see? Sometimes Mommy is still smarter than puppy.

I’m not one of these folks who have to have an upgrade every time some new technology is out. So it’s been two years since my daughter convinced me I needed a smart phone instead of my flip phone, and it’s been wonderful. Didn’t take great pictures, but it was nice to have in a pinch. What was best was the Wifi so that when I was on trips, I could catch up on emails and FB. And I love that I can use Google maps because my daughter and SIL live in a new development, and my Megellan didn’t show their location.

Plus, it’s nice having everything in one device. And I probably would have had it until it up and died on me. I was perfectly content.

So I’m out with the ladies at the wolf center in New Mexico and one of my friends has a newer phone, and she shows me hers and the pictures it can take. Well, I’m sold. My has gone through 3 upgrades in 2 years, and I don’t use it enough to use half of the amount of time I could use on my phone, so I’m actually saving $33.00 a month on my service, and I received a notepad for free, and that was listed at $100, so in a year between my monthly bill savings and my new notepad, the upgrade phone and all the costs would be free. Plus the picture taking capability? Well worth it to me. And lots of fun. 🙂

🙂

So last night I was messing around with adding FB and my email and wanted to see about the pictures. The detail is amazing! Really excited because sometimes I just don’t have the camera with me, and yet I’d love to take a good picture. When I’m autographing books in stores now, I can just take a picture of them with my cell camera and not have to drag my camera around.

Sometimes change is the pits. It takes forever to learn everything. Sometimes, it’s so past time.

Have a great Sunday! I’ve been working on bears for 2 days, and neglected the book, so need to make up for it today. 🙂

Heavy Thunderstorms!

We have a river flood warning today, no wonder. It rained sometime during the night as I found standing water in a few areas. And it was sprinkling when I took the puppies out, but also looking extremely ominous, lightning, thunder, dark clouds.

Now it’s pouring.

storms in the morning (640x427)more storms an sunrise (640x427)storms in the monring and sunrise (640x427) storms dark (640x427) (2)

And that’s my story and I’m sticking to it. No rain, or very low the rest of the week!

Have a super great Saturday! I only wrote 400 words yesterday. Had to run a ton of errands, and then I worked on 4 Celtic bears. So I’ve got to make up for it today, if I can.

So off to write unless I have to shut down. *sigh*

It’s Raining, It’s Pouring, the Puppies AREN’T Snoring!

Storms (1280x853) Storm cloud puffs (800x533)

Storms the other day. Yes, they were that black, and the strange puffs of clouds below the big storm clouds? I had never seen anything like it so took pictures of them.

Yesterday, it poured at 3 separate times and the last, the puppies were shook up over the thunder, so we moved to the couch where they were fine. Here they are after the storms passed.

Couch Potato Puppies

Couch Potato Puppies

So our newest deal for potty breaks is the puppies are good about telling me they want to go out. BUT, as soon as they get on the wet grass, bugs start hopping about. And then two furry puppies start hopping about trying to catch happy meals. Ugh. Which means, they totally forgot why they wanted to go out in the first place.

And that meant at 3 am this morning, Max HAD to go. Guess what? It was pouring, again. I hadn’t expected that, hadn’t heard the rain, so I was standing out in the rain without a jacket while they FINALLY did their thing.

Now, I’d been checking the weather all day yesterday, and every time it poured, it said we had around 20% chance of rain. Oh, and it was like 90, or at least felt that way and 99% humidity. I felt I was in Florida right after a beautiful storm because it would cool down and heat up right away and then it was like a steamy jungle.

Oh, and, I had a breakthrough on my writing, so in two days, I wrote 10,000 words! Now, if only I could keep up the momentum, but I always get stuck. Even now, I’m like, I could write the end. No, it’s too soon. What do I do next???

🙂  But I’m having fun and that’s the important part!

When the puppies got me up at 3, I couldn’t get back to sleep, so for about 2 hours I clock watched, hate it when I do that, and tried to come up with the next scene in my head. I think I fell asleep, and then my daughter called me on her way to work in south Houston. Roads were clear to drive on. But there went my sleep, which is overrated. I’d rather talk to my daughter.

So today? My word count might not be quite as good! I was checking the weather to see what we are in for today. Only 20% chance of rain. 80% tomorrow. Uh-huh, uh-huh…..

Have a super great terrific TGIF!!!

If You Were a Billionaire…

My hero needs a sporty, expensive, new convertible. Yes, the classics are just wonderful, but he’s a wolf, lived a long life, and he had all the “classics” when they were new. So he likes new. Not boxy. But hot and sexy and sporty.

So I posted this on FB, and I LOVE my readers. I had so many wonderful picks I can’t decide which he likes the best.

So here are my favorites and some that aren’t:

And the list of hot convertibles for one wolf billionaire goes on. So if you were one, what would your choice be?

I am back to writing one last guest blog for SEAL Wolf Hunting, and starting to work on Billionaire in Wolf’s Clothing.

Hope you have a lovely day! I’m off to ride in that sports car with the wolfish hero!

On Top of the World!

It just takes a writing breakthrough to make me feel that way too.

Jaguar at the Cameron Park Zoo

Jaguar at the Cameron Park Zoo

I love purple so it’s a good color. I’ve heard that some experts say that the love of purple relates to depression. Shaking head.

I’ve heard that some think in terms of thrillers, angst, so they used it in Harlequin Intrigue books to showcase the thriller aspect.

When I see purple, I just love it, nothing sinister about it.

So why am I on top of the world? I finally figured out how to open Billionaire in Wolf’s Clothing.

Billionaire in Wolf's Clothing

I have been mulling this over and mulling, and mulling, and mulling, and mulling, and well, shoot, just lots and lots and lots of mulling. And getting no where. So yesterday, after spending the day writing guest blogs for SEAL Wolf Hunting, and another project I had to do that was essential, I sat down to watch a season of Castle. I love Castle. And I love Detective Beckett. And I love the detectives working with her. Everyone is fun and I love the facial expressions, and the witticisms, and the mysteries involved in solving the murders.

So what has that got to do with the breakthrough? Not a thing.

But, it gave me a much needed break after writing two books. And so, this morning I was back to mulling. I had an idea of how I wanted to open the story. Conflict, romance, mystery, intrigue, setting, plot. But not how to really write it. So the scene opens with a rip current (often mistakenly called a riptide, even by moi), and that was it. I used that for my description of the setting and took off with it. And wrote 3 days worth of word count. Does that mean I can goof off for 2 days? Nope. It means I can try to do the same thing tomorrow. And the next day. Until I get stumped again.

The great part? I’m having fun. No more mulling. Just diving in and writing.

Oh, and I want to be able to write one book a year and be as rich as Castle. 🙂

Have a super great purple day! Unless you like blue better. Or some other color! For now, I’m getting busy with writing some more!

Violent Storms Last Night–and Weird Happenings

April Storm (3) (640x324)

Midnight was approaching last night when the storms hit again. I think we had a 20% of storms. Right. So lightning illuminated the sky in a spectacular light display while thunder boomed and cracked right overhead. The wind blew so hard and the rain rushed down in torrents I really felt the house would be rubble by morning.

But none of that is all that interesting right?

No. It’s the human and puppy aspect that is. So says I. I scrambled out of bed to batten down the hatches. Something my dad would say. He was in the AF, but thought of himself as the captain of the ship.

In any event, I had to turn of the computer. I have it on at night so that a cloud service can save the data during the off hours when it won’t use up my internet time because I’m always over on it. 🙁

Anyway, so it’s wild and all I can think of is where is the safest place to be in the house. No place, really. If a tornado hits, that’s all she wrote. Literally.

The puppies were watching me run into the living room to secure the computer. They were good. No barking. Just sitting there wondering about me, and not sure about the storm. They seem to feel more secure in their crate.

puppies sleeping in crate 014 (640x427)

So then I went back to bed to worry about the storm. And the weird happenings began.

The light was on in the garage. I hadn’t turned it on. I never turn it on. Or rarely. Spooky music here.

So I got back out of bed and headed for the garage, poked my head inside, and tried to remember which button turned off the light without accidentally opening the garage door during the brunt of the storm. Got the right button, light didn’t go out, great, but I went back to bed. Then I thought it looked dark, so I got out of bed, peeked into the garage, light’s out. I return to bed. Puppies are watching all this weirdness, by the way, not sure what I’m up to.

A few minutes later, my phone rings. But only on the main phone. The extension in my room just remained deadly silent.

More spooky music here.

Was it the fae? Or the electrical storm that was wreaking havoc with my house in the middle of the night?

Phantom Fae

I checked the weather this morning and yep, it had changed from hardly any % of rain to 60% chance of PM thunderstorms. The radar shows storms all over our area today, right now. So not sure if they’re going to wait until the PM to start up again or let loose off and on all day. But for now, lakes of water are on my driveway, again, culverts are full of water, again, and it’s time to start the day all over–and think of being somewhere else…maybe with a Billionaire wolf in paradise!

The Puppies and the Mystery Beasts

Storms and more storms and then...

Storms and more storms and then…

Tanner: What is it? Can you see?

Tanner to Max: What do you see?

Max to Tanner: Not sure what it is. What do you think?

Max to Tanner: Not sure what it is. What do you think?

Tanner to Max: What IS it?

Tanner to Max: A really strange looking dog?

Max to Tanner: I don't know but they're multiplying. Maybe we should just stay inside and watch out the window.

Max to Tanner: I don’t know but they’re multiplying. Maybe we should just stay inside and watch out the window.

Tanner to Max: Okay.

Tanner to Max: Okay.

Do you know what they saw? Turkey vultures. A skunk was dead in the yard, maybe due to all the flooding we had. In any event, the puppies sure wondered what the animals were out in the yard. But they were content to just watch.

Sent off SEAL Wolf Diving for Trouble and as much rain as we had yesterday, I felt I needed a wetsuit. Finishing up edits on She-Wolf and then will read one last time and turn it in. Then it’s time to get to work on the Billionaire book and some guest blogs for the release of SEAL Wolf Hunting!

Hope you have a great Tuesday! I hear we’re not getting rain for a day or two!

Did You Know…

We’re going to have way below normal temperatures for June? July, below temperatures, and August, we’re on the border of the temperature thingy.

So say meteorologists. If they were werewolves, they’d know the truth. But since they aren’t, I’ll forgive them. How can anyone predict the future? That far out?

How many times have you heard the World Health Organization say there’s going to be a pandemonium of flu-related deaths? To brace for the worst flu season of the century, and then it doesn’t come to fruition? Or that we haven’t had a big hurricane season, and this is the one, and then that year we have fewer than ever before?

rhino and vulture (640x427)

My friend and I went to the Cameron Park Zoo and saw the turkey vultures resting on top of the rhinos, hoping for a meal. She thought the rhinos were dead. I assured her they were not! Just sleeping. We had to stay there until the one twitched. 🙂 <3

One year, we had the worst drought ever, and ever, and ever. It was 110 degrees every day for weeks. UNBELIEVABLE. We couldn’t get a break. NO rain on the horizon. Predictions were we wouldn’t get rain until the next March. Oh, no, we’d never survive. We were on severe water restrictions. And then, in September, we began to get rainstorms. Thank God for lousy weather predictions!

Hippos Bathing (800x356)

These hippos were cooling off in a little mud hole at the Houston Zoo. Now, tell me honestly, does the mud bath make them look prettier?

So though I would LOVE to believe the predictions for a cooler summer for June and July, I’ll believe it when I see it. We’ve already had near 100 temps in March and April, and then with all the rain, that we didn’t get earlier, and got all at once in May, and so who really knows what’s coming???

I see….putting hand to brow and peering at the horizon over the cornfields….heat on the horizon, and lots of it. Why? Because that’s what we always have. Prove me wrong. I will love it!

Do you see the future?

Happy Memorial Day!!!

I REALLY, REALLY Love the Rain, but…

Could you please spread it out a bit???

I’ve got water up to my foundation again, and my toilets are gurgling—the water is to the top of the septic tank.

Soooo, I LOVE the rain. I LOVE the greenery. I HATE droughts, but…could you please spread it out a bit–like over the 100 + temperatures in the summer when it all just evaporates, but my plants could really use a good soaking drink?

Isn’t that always the way though? Feast or famine.

As dry as it is in New Mexico, they were having rain showers too. But as you can see, some of the sky is clear, and some of it not. In one of the pictures, it shows snow on the tops of one of the mountains, but couldn’t find it. I loved the mosaics on their memorial signs. Would love them for my garden!

A field of purple wildflowers were in bloom. wildflowers (640x469) Beautiful.

More later. I’ve been working from morning until bedtime, with puppy breaks in between, to finish edits on one book and another that need to be turned in by next weekend. I’m only on ch 3 again, on one of them, as I read through all the deletions and insertions, changed some back, made new changes, and started over again. Had to shut down because of storms last night, though it was nearly 11 pm. So guess that was okay!

Anyway, we saw Mexican gray wolves here, and I’ll share a couple of good shots of them later. 🙂

Have a lovely Sunday!!!

Book Signing at Barnes and Noble, Waco, Texas

book signing, Waco

Lovely time at the book signing, and if you can see in the picture (Debra Jupe’s, author to the far left), I had Kissing the Highlander, Phantom Fae, and Jaguar Pride available to sign. More autographed copies are still on hand at Barnes and Noble, so if you are looking for a great compilation of Highland novels, a fun fae young adult, or a hot and sexy jaguar shifter story, they are there!

I want to thank Lorelei for working so hard to make it a success, along with Ken, who set it up at the store. He was really wonderful and made it super special. Thanks to all our readers who made it to the store. Everyone ended up winning fancy chocolates and one won a Nook, and everyone received free drinks. Truly a wonderful time had by all!

From left to right, Debra Jupe, Linda LaRoque, Lorelei Buckley, Me (note how patriotic I am with my wolf and flags shirt), Nese Lane, and Susan Owens.

Have a super great Saturday. It’s gloomy today, and I love it. The sun will beat down on us soon enough. 🙂

Back to edits! 🙂
