Bears and Birds and Yes, Books!

Purple Sweater Bear 001 (640x549)

Okay, another bear order, and two more for clan bears. I’ve run out of made up bears and have to start from scratch again!

But I was excited to see the female cardinal finally was eating at one of the feeders. I’m sure that she wouldn’t have liked it if she had known I took a picture of her with her mouth, well, technically beak, full.  cardinal eating on feeder

I’m off to now work on books! 🙂  But the bears are ready to ship to Australia and Kansas!

Have a super great Thursday!

Not Just Bird Watching!

IMG_4639 (640x427)

When I was a kid, I was taught to always do my homework before I could play. That work ethic was drummed into me and so it stuck with me all my life. So the last thing I did AFTER I did all the other things I HAD to do, was tried to coax the cardinals to come out and play. I went outside and was shocked that all their bird seed was gone.

We had 30 mph winds, so I was thinking that it just scattered. But what if the birds had eaten it? I poured some more on the patio, and then went back to working on the bears I needed to make for another shipment to Australia. (Now it suspiciously sounds like I hadn’t finished all my work before I went to play with the birds, but in truth, I had only planned to finish one bear and had done so, but after the break I was ready to finish the other. Just had to clarify there! 🙂 ) And when I went into the kitchen for a cup of hot tea, there they were! Both the male and female cardinals!

She was watching me from the tree as I took the pictures from the window.  Several were blurry, but this one turned out beautifully, which reminds me, just like with my writing, not everything will be perfect the first time. Sometimes I will have to rewrite something a few times before it works for me. 🙂

I’m still waiting for it to get light out so I can take the pictures of the finished bears, and I missed a couple of historical romance books for the raffle basket I’m taking to RT Convention and another author wanted to send hers also. And then two more authors wanted to add to the contemporary basket.

But here is the contemporary basket for one lucky raffle winner. I had to have these posted by Feb 1, so deadline drawing near!

contemporary (640x454)

I finished rereading Jaguar Pride, and will now set it aside and give it a rest for a couple of days, then reread it again.

So what’s next? Still have 3 more guest blogs to write, 4 interviews that I need the questions for, and need to get the bears ready to ship, still waiting on one sweater to arrive for one of the bears. And I’ve got 3 Rita books left to read.

I’ve started writing a ton of books, and I have another deadline coming up for another–June, but with the conferences, it will be here before I know it.

So it’s light out enough, and I’m off to take some pictures–not just fun pictures (even though taking all pictures are fun for me), but pictures of the bears and the updated historical romance basket giveaway!

Are you an “eat dessert first” kind of person, or do you do your chores, and then get to play?

Have a super great day!

Going to the Birds!!

I finished a first “official” edit of Jaguar Pride, but will make several passes through before I send it to my beta readers. I have a scene I need to add, and a couple of loose ends I need to cover. But I needed to take a break from it and start fresh with it tomorrow.

Which means? I started on the 13 guest blogs and interviews for the Silence of the Wolf blog tour in March. Before long, it will be time to turn them in. (5 down, 8 to go) I also read 4 of the 8 Rita books I needed to judge and they are due in March. So it all takes time.

But… I had to take a break, so see what I did on my break?

I took pictures! I read about another author who had bird feeders out and so she got a new camera and took some fun pictures of the birds and squirrels, and I thought how cool! And another friend tells me how she’s always refilling her bird feeders in snow-buried Minnesota, so I thought I would get some bird feeders too. Only nothing’s feeding at them.  I realize from this I’m rather impatient. LOL

Still, the winds were so high, they scattered finch seed from the feeder on the patio, and I had white crowned sparrows feeding. And my male cardinal came down also.

white crowned sparrow2

The female cardinal usually hides, but this evening, she was out with the male, and they were dying to come down and eat some of the sunflower and other seeds I put out for them today. Here is the cardinal in a pear tree. 🙂

And here is the female. He joined her when I came out to take a picture of them, but I missed capturing them together.

So do you have feeders out and if so, what kinds of birds are you getting?

More Bears and Books!

Campbell Clan Bear is done!
And I have 3 more orders for Australia!

 Best Friends Purple Sweater Bear

 Happy Birthday Blue Sweater Bear

 Pink Hearts Sweater Bear

And I finished Jaguar Pride!!!

In other words, I’ve written THE END!!! I love when that happens. I’m halfway done with editing it–which is the advantage of editing as I write because it’s not a totally rough draft. Some have to write the book first and then edit or they’ll get stuck editing and not writing. For me, I would be way over word count when I didn’t flesh out my scenes until after I wrote the book. 🙂

Jaguar Pride the end (640x425)

And then I’m working on 13 blogs for the blog tour for Silence of the Wolf!

Silence of the Wolf:

Book 13
(March 2014)
B&N
And because I don’t have enough to do, I started bird watching. 🙂
More on that later, because right now, I’m getting ready to work some more on Jaguar Pride edits. Hope to have it done by the weekend!
And then, it’s time to work on all those interviews and guest blogs, plus I’m making up a couple of raffle baskets for Romantic Times Convention!
Oh, and I’ve had 3 things go out on me in the past week–my microwave, computer, and now a floor heater. That’s it for a while now, right? 3 things is the max? Right?
Are you having a fun weekend?
Have a super great Saturday!!!

Pinterest!

I’m on Pinterest because I enjoy sharing my pictures. And it’s pretty cool when other’s share my book covers as books that are their favorites or are on their To Be Read Shelf.

One day, I was invited to share pictures on the Texas Parenting Magazine Texas pictures board. I thought that was REALLY cool.

Well, yesterday, I had another big thrill. One of my all-time favorite authors, Sandra Brown, began following my Pinterest boards, and I learn that she was born in Waco, Texas! Now, I live near there, not from here originally, but wow, had a total fan-girl moment, and believe me, that RARELY happens.

It’s kind of a fun place!  And who knows when you might just get to “meet” someone you really admire a whole lot in a big Texas way. 🙂

Wolves–the Shifter Variety

Wolves--the Shifter Variety / I loved reading The Call of the Wild and White Fang when I was young, so when I began to write werewolf romances, I based the wolf half on real wolves, rather than some beastly creature. Just think, the man next door who changed your car's flat tire, or who rescued your cat from the tree, could really be none other than a sexy werewolf at heart. / by Terry Spear

Bears and Books!

Way before I was writing books, well, I was writing children’s books, I was making teddy bears that won awards and have been featured in magazines and newspapers. When the Internet came into existence, I scrambled to get a website because the time of going to craft shows had to be expanded. I wanted to reach out across the world. And so I did!

I’ve sold all over the US, Canada, France, Belgium, Australia, South Africa, Kazakhstan and Russia! This tells me that teddy bears are loved universally!!!!

I make them from scratch and personalize them when needed. I did embroidery work since I was young, and this was a way for me to still do it (my family had enough embroidered pictures that they were definitely glad when I had another outlet for my handwork)!

Karen Bear 002 (640x593)MacPherson Clan Bear 002 (427x640)Thomas Bear 002 (640x427)aIsla Bear 001 (640x427)

These four bears are off to Australia. There’s one more, but her sweater didn’t come in on time. The two mohair bears, Isla and Thomas are new twins. 🙂

I’m working on a Campbell bear and he’s nearly done. Picture tomorrow!

Have a wonderful day! Only 5200 words left on Jaguar Pride and I’m excited to finish it. It won’t be all the way finished, as I’ll have to edit it. But that’s the really fun part. 🙂 Making the story truly come to life.

Edana Chattan senses concerns where people she knows could be in danger. When her brothers warn her they’re in trouble, she can’t convince her father to listen to her, so with an escort, she tries to locate them. Separated from her escort during a storm, she is discovered by Angus MacNeill, who is tasked to return her home.

Only Edana has other notions–and convinces him and his companions to allow her to use her abilities to locate her brothers who are manacled in a dungeon somewhere. That leads to a faux marriage and more dungeons and more trouble than Angus had ever thought possible. So why is the bewitching, fiery-haired lass making him think of marrying her for real?

I don’t normally post twice in a day, but this was so important, I had to post about it because it’s the only day it will EVER be the BOOK OF THE DAY. 🙂 So here it is. One last day at 99 cents and it will be forever and ever gone. Probably. 🙂

My computer is broken. 🙁

I got a finch feeder and finch food, but no one’s come to eat. Did I do it wrong???

I’m off to eat lunch, but had to share….

In Ye Old Days…

Do you remember the old days? You know, when people had typewriters? Can you imagine writing a full length book on one now? All the mistakes you have to correct? All the paper you waste? How you can’t cut and paste and move whole scenes from one location to another?

If you believe that’s terrible, think of a time when all books were written by hand! And I’m not talking about  writing pages like I do when I need to get away from the computer and just focus on writing, then typing them up on Word when I’m ready to. But whole books that were just purely written by hand. Try not to make any mistakes!

So what happens when your computer crashes?

polar bear clarity (800x533)

That’s what happened to me. First, the electricity went out. I was in the middle of edits on Jaguar Pride. I’m sure I wasn’t happy. I stared at the black screen for a moment, thinking that  surely the last words, well, not the VERY last words as they would have been lost, but most of the 2 hours of changes would have been saved as I have it set to save every minute, because of other cataclysmic occurrences like this one.

Surely. And then the electricity came back on and the saving of my mss was the least of my worries. My computer wouldn’t come back on. The blue light says it is, and I hear a tiny, little, itty bitty stirring sound like it’s trying to come on, very faintly, and that’s it. No computer. Just a blue light.

So I try everything. Check out the connections. Unplug everything. Replug everything. Try a different electric socket. Nada. Nothing. Zilch.

I dig out my laptop and pulled up my story, that thankfully, I had saved on my external hard drive, and so, I had some of it. Do you know how much I can type in a minute? Maybe I need to save every 15 seconds.

*sigh*

I tried several things all over again, still no success with the computer. So now I have to take it into the shop. And hope that the verdict isn’t too bad.

But if I’d had to, I would have been writing the old, old way… by hand. Because the show… or … the story must go on!

A Sale! Sold! A Silver Wolf Christmas–Oct 2015 Release Date!

Another book sale

I usually pitch three books at a time, but I had 6 books to complete on one contract and was asked to do another, so I had 7 and it took forever to write that many books. So I’m trying to keep it down to 3 books that I have to write at any one time. Though in truth, I’m nearly done with Jaguar Pride. Still, I’ll need to work on edits after I’ve written THE END.

Coyote (640x397)

I had a lovely time at the zoo yesterday, though I wasn’t thinking that it was a holiday, so it was packed. Animals that are usually fairly quiet or sleeping were agitated with all the noise at the zoo. Some of the animals that are usually quite active were worn out. This is a coyote that had crashed. Her mate was nearby but hidden.

Because of goofing off, I only got 1,000 done on my mss instead of 2, which means I will have to write 3,000 today. See how that works? It’s like getting deeper in debt. By huge amounts. If I’d done what I was supposed to have done, I wouldn’t have so much more to do. 🙂

And I really, really want to finish the book by this weekend. That will give me a couple of weeks to keep revising it. That’s the really fun part. 🙂

I still haven’t come up with the end. Okay, I’ll let you in on a secret. My characters often tell me how it ends. And when it’s the right time, they’ll let me know. You might think that’s crazy, but it’s true. I can brainstorm all I want, but I come down to that end, and all of a sudden, I have it! You don’t think I came up with it all on my own, now do you?

Have a super Tuesday!!!
