So I’m still working away on The Emerald Isle of Mists. We went to see Matrix yesterday. I liked it. I know a lot of people didn’t. I decided to take down my tree so I could get to cleaning really good, organize my garage again. We’re in for a freezing spell this weekend, so was out winterizing my sprinkler system. I’ll probably take my lights down ahead of the freeze just because I don’t want to do it when it’s so cold out.

But today, no more movies, so hope to get a lot done on Emerald today. I was thinking the island itself needs more mystery and fun stuff, so will be working in some more fantasy for that. I was thinking of some new mythical creatures and one my daughter showed me was Scandinavian, that looked interesting, so I might incorporate one of those in the story. Plus, when I woke at 5 this morning, scenes were filling my head of what would happen next, so now that I’ve put the tree up, etc, I’m off to write and write and write. Hopefully.

Have a wondrous day!!!

Request for Another Bear, and a Review!

Another Confetti Bear. Better picture. The sun was setting when I took the one before this. It was getting dark when I took this one, but bear shows up as more of it’s natural white color and all its lovely confetti colors.

Still had a guest blog to do, but when I got another bear order, and another chance to watch a movie???? After working on 6 guest blogs yesterday?

You guessed it! I was ready to take a break.

I also got a great review this morning for Silence of the Wolf:

5 Ribbons!

An action-packed paranormal romantic suspense, SILENCE OF THE WOLF, the thirteenth novel in award winning author Terry Spear’s HEART OF THE WOLF series, will sweep you up into the storyline right from the very first page. Tom and Elizabeth are both alphas and there is an undeniable connection between them. Before long, they are heating up the pages as danger pursues Elizabeth. Not only is her family in the area, there is also the question of four brothers who were once part of the pack until Darien killed their father. Are they the ones behind the missing livestock, or is it her uncle and half-brother? Are the brothers back for retribution, or for some other reason?

With non-stop action, thrilling suspense, danger, a beautiful setting, well-drawn characters, this story will keep readers guessing right up to the very satisfying ending. The secondary plot of the four brothers also provides additional depth and appeal to the story. Although this is the thirteenth novel in this series, it can easily be read as a standalone. Since the first time I picked up one of Ms. Spear’s books, I have been a fan. She never disappoints and keeps the adrenaline steadily climbing with each book. If you are looking for a terrific story with plenty of the paranormal, mystery, romance, humor and heat, look no further than SILENCE OF THE WOLF. A wonderfully entertaining novel! Happy Wolf Day!

Happy Wolf Day

Woohoo, I am in werewolf heaven:

Nobody does werewolf romances like Terry Spear. The romance sizzles, the plot boils, the mystery intrigues, and the characters shine.

I think this was my first introduction to Silver Town. I’ve read about some of the Silver’s in prior novels, but this was my first introduction to the Silver family and I will most definitely be searching out previous books pertaining to them. So trust me, even though this is book 13 in the Heart of the Wolf series Silence of the Wolf is most definitely a standalone novel.

Elizabeth and Tom had so much chemistry it was practically bounding off the pages. There was an easiness about their relationship that made their attraction to each other believable. And while Elizabeth may have tried to play the part of a beta, she was pure alpha which made it all the more interesting when Tom ordered her to do something.

While the romance is divine, what continuously pulls me into Spear’s romances is that mystery and adventure that will have you at the edge of your seat.

Fans of Terry Spear’s will be quick to spot cameos of past characters.

Simply brilliant. Silence of the Wolf is romantic suspense combined with paranormal goodness mixed in with a whole lot of fun. And did I happen to mention the sexy werewolves that abound with in the pages?

Okay, back to my scheduled writing. One thing I will say, when I get a review like this, I’m sooooo much more motivated to write. So thanks to everyone who shares with me how much they enjoy my books!

It does make a difference!

So I’m at 45,000 on A SEAL Wolf for Sale, working on that 50K for the week.

I’ve also been pulling grass. Why is it that grass always grows where you don’t want it to?

Do you have that problem too?

In previous posts, I’ve shown the turkey vultures surrounding the lion and lioness as if they were part of their royal court. And actually perched on top of a rhino that was sleeping. I’ve never seen the bear up and moving around. And I’ve never seen the turkey vultures in his exhibit. So see? They might not be the greatest pictures as far as photography goes, but as far as subject, pretty cool, don’t you think?

I managed to get to 27,000 yesterday, despite being on a LIVE blog tour from noon until midnight. And I should make my goal by the weekend of 30,000, maybe more.

Oh, and I’m from the bear state of California, and I’m researching grizzlies in Montana for A SEAL Wolf for Sale, and I saw the bear at the zoo, so what do you think I had a nightmare about???

Tomorrow it will be Sia McKye Over Coffee! Post tomorrow.

I’ve been absent, if anyone has noticed. 🙂

I was at the zoo. And I’m behind on my writing. I’ve been collaborating with 3 different author groups to put out 2 box sets, and the other will hopefully be a Highland anthology. Still working on all the stuff. 🙂 So really been busier than I usually am.

I was going to throw out the can of used up paint because yesterday was garbage day, figuring I had to get some new paint, but there was some left and it was good, so I was painting some more. I still have a short wall and some trim to do. And the brick walls to paint. They are a job because of all the crevices in the brick. My delightful daughter said that was one of my New Year’s Goals, to finish painting the room. LOL Don’t you love when others give you a New Year’s Goal??? I have a time enough with making my own! Which I don’t. I have enough writing goals to keep me busy!

So I’m off to write and try to get caught up. I’m at 22,000, think I wrote 1,000 by hand last night, so need to type it, and am aiming at 30,000 by the weekend.

All kinds of interesting stuff at the zoo. Here are a couple of pictures. Oh, and tried to post earlier, but having trouble with WP. 🙁

alligator (640x427)

American Alligator–he is looking at you! I would not want to run into him in a lake.

courting birds (640x536)

The birds of some kind were having a courting dance and several were going on at the same time. I think the brown is the female and the white the male if the showiness is anything. But if it is, the female was going on at the male, when I often think it’s the other way around. But what do I know??? There’s another brown version, if a female in the lower left hand corner, and she’s making a ruckus also. I think she wanted the guy!

2 poisonous snakes closeup (640x427) (2)

Two headed venomous snake or two snake heads? 🙂

Okay, off to see if I wrote 23,000 or more, hopefully more, and I’m on my way. A storm is coming. In the story, and outside, it looks like too. 🙂  More pictures later. All kinds of great shots this time. Not so much that the picture was the greatest piece of photography of all time–I leave that to all you professional photographers who do such a fine art job of it–but because of the circumstances. Like the mating birds up above. Are these mating snakes? Never know. And the alligator who is watching–YOU! 🙂

Have a super great Thursday!

Terry

Book Sets and Such!

Silence of the Wolf–5 Stars!! Bitten by Books: “The mystery of Elizabeth’s parents’ death is woven throughout the story, and I love a good mystery. Though Elizabeth is a woman alone, she has a deep desire to be part of a pack, but is afraid when Tom first makes the offer. Tom is a strong and capable leader, a definite alpha, and is certain that he wants Elizabeth to be his mate. When Elizabeth’s room is broken into and her belongings stolen, Tom is there to protect her.

I liked seeing Elizabeth’s courage in the face of a kidnapping and her determination to discover who was responsible for the murder of her parents. Silence of the Wolf is a story that easily captured my interest, and I am curious to see what happens next for the Silver Town residents.” Mary http://bittenbybooks.com/silence-of-the-wolf-by-terry-spear/

And yes, there’s more: A Silver Wolf Christmas, Oct 2015.

I am behind!!! On my writing on A SEAL Wolf for Sale. We had storms yesterday and I had to get off my computer.

Sudden Storms Texas (640x427)

And I have some things coming up: A book set with a bunch of authors who have won all kinds of awards, three of which are USA Today Bestselling authors, including me! More adult paranormal and fantasy books. And another book set with strictly YA faery stories. I think both of them will be a lot of fun. We’re working on the details for both right now, and I have two conferences coming up that we’re working together to come up with some things.

I love authors! In most businesses, we would be considered competition. But with authors, we unite to work together to help each other out and that’s really a wonderful concept. I’ve been asked a million times to join in book sets with other authors, and I’ve said no because I’m swamped with other stuff going on all the time. But I finally said yes to these two projects–one because I’m fascinated with these award-winning authors, and the other, because it’s all the world of fae, and I think it’s really important to have a themed box set to help promote the same.

So in the coming weeks when I have sales links, I’ll share them here. 🙂

I just also sent the narrator the following two books to narrate:

Scepter of Salvation

Mage of Monrovia

She wanted to be a school trained mage…but everything stands in her way.

The Magic of Inherian: The Mage of Monrovia, Book 2

An apprentice of the mage they had destroyed earlier, now threatens Inherian once again. But when Mexia arrives at Langdon to become school trained, she learns the school will not permit a woman to attend. But she must destroy the mage’s apprentice, and she cannot do so without the training. She must use the magic she has learned to discover a way to defeat the apprentice before it is too late.

Mexia has already done much more than most school- trained mages when she and her companions had gone in search of the scepter of salvation. But now one of the apprentices of the evil wizard they had destroyed, has stolen his spell book and plans to take up where he had left off, and she has to try and stop him.

Mexia believes the only way for her to defeat the mage is to become school trained like he was with the eventual goal of becoming a high wizard–the first of her kind in Inherian. But the current headmaster denies her entrance because she’s a woman. Though if she can get the former headmaster’s recommendation, she may attend.

And that’s the beginning of the trouble.

First, there’s the wizard.
Then, the immovable headmaster.
And then, the circle of misfortunes.
It all goes downhill from there…

Today at Fresh Fiction!

I’ve lost count of my blog tour stops, but I’m at Fresh Fiction today, still working on A SEAL Wolf Christmas, hope to have 20K by this weekend, but I’m a LONG ways from it. I’ve had to do another interview, and guest blog, and those take time! It may look like they’re short and sweet and easy to write, but they’re not. And I had to rewrite my synopsis for A Highland Wolf Christmas for marketing and that took forever. And then I have to constantly drop into the sites where I’m the guest author to comment on commenters’ comments. It’s not enough to just write the blog. It’s important for me to interact with fans and potential fans. That can mean a lot of comments! And a lot of blogs to comment on until the contest runs it’s course at the site. But it’s still important to me. And blog site moderators appreciate it too.

So after I tell the world where I’m at today, I’ve got to get back to writing. A lot of what stops me is research. Is it warm enough to swim in a Montana lake in summer? Well, it’s 74 degrees and it’s getting too hot for their cold weather fish. Did you know that? Huckleberries are great to pick wild up there. We picked blackberries wild in Oregon and currant berries too. How do you make it into berry jam?

Can you hunt in the summer for elk or bear or deer or… no. How warm does it get in the summer? Eighty-two degrees. Hmmm, when it’s 105 here, I think I’ll go up there. It has one of the largest grizzly populations though. And they have several wolf packs. Which is why I picked it for my location. Lots of forests, lakes, rivers, perfect for a werewolf pack.

What do you do to protect yourself from a grizzly attack? What are signs one is in the area? Can you have a cabin on the lake? Some don’t allow homes on lakes, like at some Oklahoma lakes. So I always have to make sure it will work. I have that one of the cabins is in the mountains. Are their mountains that close? Yes. 🙂

I write something, and then have to stop and check to see if it works! 🙂 And I’ll look up homes on the lakes that are for sale and use the pictures to describe the real places in my book. Also, like the scenery from the cabin decks–the sunset, the way the water looks. Scuba diving, the way the water looks beneath the surface. All of it is important to me.

black bear (533x800) (2)

They have black bears and grizzlies up there. This is a black bear at the wildlife reserve in Omaha. They can be difficult to tell apart sometimes from grizzlies and some hunters kill the grizzlies, thinking they are the black bear, that can be just as brown as the grizzly and if the grizzly is younger, can be mistaken for the smaller bear.

They had a bear hunting season in Arkansas. We lived in eastern Oklahoma near the Arkansas border where it was more mountainous and we had a lot of bear sightings. No hunting for bear in Oklahoma so they got smart and began to move into our state. 🙂

Do you have an animal guide? I’ve added that in this story. What draws you to a particular animal? If you visit a zoo or wildlife reserve, what is the animal you most want to see? Do you have a particular animal you admire most? Have you had a sign that indicates that animal is your guide? So if you have an animal guide, what does this indicate? I had to discover this as well. 🙂

I love the research though because it often gives me ideas of where to go with the story. Like about the grizzlies in the area, or the pitchforks in the lake. Or the wolf poachers. Or an old story I read about wolves that led to another pack’s demise, which I will incorporate into this story. That story has bothered me since I read it a couple of years ago in my research, so I decided I would use it in the telling of this story.  I have used several real wolf tales in my werewolf stories.

I can’t remember what this was at the Spring, Texas Botanical Gardens, but I loved the lacy flower like leaves and took a picture of them, and they’re so dramatic.

Hope to get somewhere today on my writing. I have 7,000 words left to go to make my goal.

Isn’t that a beautiful picture? Don’t you wish I knew what it was? I think it was an oak, something. 🙂 You’d think I’d research it and find out…. 🙂

New Review of Silence of the Wolf by Romance Junkies!

Dottie‘s review

An action-packed paranormal romantic suspense, SILENCE OF THE WOLF, the thirteenth novel in award winning author Terry Spear’s HEART OF THE WOLF series, will sweep you up into the storyline right from the very first page. Debbie’s Book Blog Review

5 Apples!!!

Terry Spear takes readers back to Silver Town in the thirteenth book in the Heart of the Wolf series. Readers of the series will love this very original addition to the series featuring a wolf/coyote hybrid. Spear once again entrances readers with her action packed, romantic writing. This paranormal romance has plenty of suspense and willhave readers on the edge of their collective seats, as Tom Silver, youngest of the Silver brothers finally finds a woman he can’t live without. A great addition to this wonderful series.

What I liked:

Thirteen books into this series and it is still just as exciting and memorable as the every first book. That is remarkable! I usually think that a series needs to end somewhere around ten books because at that point the overall story arc’s are starting to lag. Not so, with this series. The Heart of the Wolf series was one of the very first paranormal series’ that I ever read and I have honestly loved every single book. Spear has a bag of tricks that most author’s can’t even guess at. Because of her military background, her wolf books featuring SEAL’s are fantastic, because of her Scottish background her highland wolf books are spectacular, and because of her impeccable research into wolf behavior and dynamics, every single book she writes about werewolves has a ring of authenticity that is hard to deny. Basically, she’s a phenomenal writer. Whether it’s wolves or fae, or jaguars, she has the write stuff!

Tom Silver has been one of my favorites from the very beginning of this series. He is brother to the alpha of his pack and that comes with a lot of responsibility. He is a protector. He looks after Darien’s interests whether it is in pack matters or business and he even takes on the role as an enforcer in some cases. I was so happy to see him finally get his story. Spear has done such a wonderful job of fleshing out her characters in every book they show up in, that readers by this time, really feel like they know Tom and the kind of woman it will take to make him stand up and take notice. Spear does not disappoint with Elizabeth.

****************

I love this review! One of the things I always really strive for in my books is a uniqueness for each book. They can’t be the same old tired plot, setting, and characters. I’m working on book 16 now!!! So, yes, 14 and 15 have been turned in.

But in each, I have to make them different. When I first started, I would be asked in interviews: What makes this book different from all the rest? And before I write the next book, I do the same with myself to try to make them the most unique story from any other.

Even with the Cougar series, same thing. I wanted something based on what I could envision cougar shifters to be like and worked in their cougar personalities along with their human qualities.

So, I’m having trouble starting A SEAL Wolf for Sale, which is not unusual. Because I have to strive for: the perfect setting, which I had selected and in the computer crash and then having to write Jaguar Pride, I lost my links and the location I had decided on. So I had to go back to the drawing board and find a new location. I have Montana for the story. They have forests, lakes, wolves. 🙂

Now, I have to start with action/adventure/romance/mystery/wolves… all within the first few pages–first meeting, wolf showing early on–to show that wolf shifter part of the equation, but no slow starts. Need conflict.

So I’ve thought of a few different ways to open it, but it’s not working for me. Need something else. Characters have to be heroic. Just all kinds of stuff. 🙂 Once I hit upon the right idea, then I’ll be off and running. But my editor called with edits on A Highland Wolf Christmas. 🙁 And then I got two more bear orders, just got home from a visit to my daughter’s place, so trying to get unpacked.

And the brainstorming for SEAL continues.

Plus, I’ve been contacting reviewers to review Cougar’s Mate. 🙂

And I’ve just put The Dark Fae on sale for 99 cents! It will take a while for it to start showing up at the sale price.

Ever wonder why body parts mysteriously fall asleep? Where you put those pesky keys? Why you stumble over nothing in your path? Welcome to the world of fae…
