Erquhart Clan Bear and the Wild One

I just received an order for the last panda bear I’m working on, and a Munro Clan Bear. I’ll be shipping these today–Wild One has a trip all the way Down Under! So I have two pandas to finish, a Munro Clan Bear, and I’ll be working on three Steampunk Bears and two Angel Bears.

I’m off to work. Still trying to figure out how to start the Silver Town Wolf Christmas book. Since the hero and heroine have a dating history, fans will expect them to be together. But that means no conflict, so I need to create some kind of conflict that will test their relationship.

Have a super day!!!

Before…After…More Teddy Bears to Come!

The cart full of teddy bear parts miraculously turned into a bunch of finished bears! Still working on more of them, but they’re getting there! The two pandas are on their way to their homes, another two are in progress–the one is sold, and Wild One Bear (the hot pink and purple and orange) sold and she is on her way to Australia as soon as I embroider her paws.

I spent most of yesterday re-reading SEAL Wolf Surrender, catching more discrepancies, and I have 60 pages to go. Hope to be finished with it before baby gets here at 11:30. I hoped to ship the other panda by then too, but I don’t think I’ll have time. And I have to do the marketing materials for this book: short synopsis, long synopsis, cover ideas, etc. I’ll try to do that after baby goes home tonight. Sunday, I need to finish the other panda bear and then ship her on Monday, so I’ll probably just ship the other one then too. 🙂 Still waiting on Tartan fabric from Scotland to finish another order.

I’ll be working on a couple of angel bears and a couple of steampunk bears too. I’m nearly done with making the bears for the steampunk costumes, then have to create the outfits. The angel bears are still in process.

Off to finish reading the book!! Hope your weekend is filled with fun things to do too!

Teddy Bears on Parade

While I was at IKEA, I found a fur pillow cover that is perfect for displaying the bears on. I usually use a dining table place mat and try to match it up with the bear, but a white fur showcases the bears better. And no trying out what will match up with the bear!

I have 4 pandas I’m working on, one with crushed velvet that sold also, the one pictured is sold, and I need to add the hand-embroidered paws, and another sold. She’s waiting to see what the velvet paws look like. Everybody else in the line up is available, and I still have 12 more bears I’m working on. Top Chocolate bear, Brown Sugar, Sherbet Bear, and the Wild One (bright pink and purple), Wee Willy (bottom left) are all $29 plus shipping.  They are all plush. Miss Lily (ivory mohair), and Marigold (gold mohair) are $45. Pandas are $35.

Okay, I have a hugely busy schedule for the next few days, so not sure how much of anything I’m going to get done. Yes, babysitting. 🙂 But I’m hopeful I’ll still get some writing done. I’ve been brainstorming with one of my beta readers to come up with the heroine’s occupation for Cougar Magic, because their regular job can help make the character. So before I go much further on the story, it’s at 3,000 words, I need to figure that out.

We’re supposed to have severe thunderstorms for several days. Hope it’s all good rain and nothing else.

Have a super, delightful day!! I will be dreaming of teddy bears in my sleep!

Before…After–Shop ‘Til You Drop

We were at IKEA for hours yesterday and baby started out all smiles, she had a ball, but by the end of the day, she crashed. Grandma had her walking, pushing her stroller, walking, and that place is huge and perfect for walking. Wore her out.

But I also got an organizer for making the bears! It really is making a difference. Instead of having them piled up on the couch were I was stuffing, attaching body parts, and sewing them, I have them organized by degree of doneness (author made up word).

Bottom basket had the bears with arms attached, middle unattached legs and ears, top, sewing and attachment tools. Before, I had them all in plastic buckets on the couch and I kept searching and searching for body parts. (Sounds like a murder thriller, doesn’t it?)

And I found butterscotch bear’s arm! lol But alas, one panda bear’s leg hadn’t been cut out, so I did that and was sewing heads on the machine and more legs this morning, and still need to cut out 4 more white bear heads. Puppies wanted out and I thought I’d better get this done before I forgot.

I’ll probably write some this morning. Still need to figure out how to start my next Silver Town wolf book.

Hope you have a lovely day!!!

I Didn’t Do Anything Yesterday!

At least that’s the way I feel. I did get baby down for a 2 1/2 hour nap, and then a 1 1/2 hour nap, worked all day on Cougar Magic cover, when I could. It’s book 6 in the series.

I cut out the rest of 15 bears this morning. the ten I’d finished cutting out yesterday. And I did set up the folder for the new silver book, the new cougar book, the new Woodland Fae book and wrote 1500 words, and made the changes to Claiming the White Bear. So how can I see that as having done nothing?

Everything I’m working on is far from being done, that’s why! It’s all the beginning. I sewed on several of the bears, still need to sew up bear heads, and sew in the soles on some of the bear legs. But guess what?  I’m missing bear ears for Bubblegum Bear. Huh!

And somehow I’m missing a panda bear leg. (I cut out 4 of those bears and they have lots of extra pieces, eye patches and their body has 4 parts instead of 2) I’m hoping I find Bubblegum’s ears in the bottom of the box of bears-to-sew, and that the panda bear leg slipped in there also. But wait, I’m missing more! I had thought I’d cut out 4 heads for the panda bears and 2 for angel bears, all in white. I have all the gussets, the center piece on the top of the head that goes to the nose. Huh!

No big deal, really. But it means dragging out all the stuff again to cut out what I missed. Yet, it is ONLY the beginning. I have to turn bear parts inside out, sew ear ends together, attach legs and arms to bodies, stuff arms and legs, sew the ends up. Then come the heads. Trim face, eyes next. Do you hear that? Eyes first! Yes, when I’ve been doing a lot of bears and watching  a riveting TV show, I have been known to attach a head BEFORE I put in the eyes. I’ve been making them for many years, and I think I’ve done it 3 times. lol

So EYES first. Then attach the head, stuff the head, close the head, attach the ears and sew the nose. For the pandas, another step. I have to sew on the eye patches, but I have to insert eyes through the eye patches too. Trying to remind myself. I haven’t made them for a few years. lol

And then dresses for the angel bears, sash and bonnet for the clan bear, steampunk jackets, dresses and hats, and paws on the panda and Celtic bear need to be embroidered.

And I’m a long way from finishing any books because I’ve just started them. And that’s okay. I have to remind myself this all the time. In the beginning, it’s just the beginning. If I keep working at it, everything will get done.

Off to search for Bubblegum’s ears. I just have to have cut them out. lol And panda’s leg too. The heads? I probably goofed on it.

Have a great day where nothing has gone missing!!

Trying to Get Baby to Sleep

I think sometimes it’s easier writing a whole novel.

Pictured: slug, toadstool–one of my readers said that her dad used to say that some are made for a fairy’s bed, and some for an umbrella. This one was definitely a fairy’s bed. And this is the tallest coneflower I have.

Okay, was cutting out bears, but still trying to put baby down for a nap. We took a walk in the heat, fed her, now she has a bottle, and….well, we’re still working on the closing eyes and falling asleep part. lol At least I have two white bears cut out, working on angel bears, one is sold, four pandas cut out, two are sold, two light purple, one sold. And working on cutting out five butterscotch bears, one for a steampunk that is sold.

Baby’s asleep! I knew I could do it!

Anyway, and I was working on the story idea for Stryker’s cougar story, need a shorter title than what I have, another story that will be a Highland medieval wolf shifter, Claiming the White Bear. I do that sometimes, work on different stories until I get an idea for the next book.

All right, I’m pinned to my desk, so need to figure out what to do until baby wakes up.

Have a great day!!!

Gardening–the Good and the Bad…

Top left corner is Virginia Creeper and though it can be very pretty, they say not to plant it next to fences, houses, and ornamental trees! It’s very aggressive. I already have problems with wild blackberries, grape, and not sure what the other really thorny vine is that I have to keep cutting out. So out comes the Virginia Creeper. Next is a good plant. I wasn’t sure, but it’s watermelon! And yes, I planted the seeds. Just all over. So forgot. lol

The next could be the world’s biggest weed. I have no idea. I’ve never seen it before. Someone said it could be wild violet, but it has no flowers. And the last by the stones is a lovely crepe myrtle that came out of nowhere. I love crepe myrtles! I have no idea what color of flower it will be, so it will be a fun surprise.

I’m off to ship bears this morning. Finished the next St. Patrick Bear and got the first Santa Bear ready to ship.

I’m still working on edits to SEAL and working on Claiming the White Bear while waiting on beta reads.

Several more bears to make! Have a fun day!!!

I’ve got to get back to work!

More Storms…Getting to the End

More storms, the garlic is growing leaps and bounds. Had another order for a Patriotic Patrick Bear. And the burgundy daylilies and apricot roses are blooming to profusion. When I first started growing them, they were small, beautiful, but not as showy as they all are now. It’s fun seeing them grow from baby plants to showy adults. I look at the mass of coneflowers out front and instead of 3 or 4, now I have about 10 blooms at once. Now, they’re noticeable.

Just like the book I’m working on. It’s nearly done! And I’m feeling great about it!

I managed to get some word count yesterday even though baby was here. She hadn’t slept well at home for the last couple of days and fought me to take naps. I took her for a walk and she fell asleep in the stroller. Score one for Grandma! Then I finally managed to get her to sleep for 3 hours in the afternoon. She would have slept longer if she hadn’t already drained her bottle. But I can’t get her to sleep anywhere but my lap (except for on a rare occasion in the stroller), and so I was able to work on the story on my laptop, situated next to me–makes it awkward, but I was glad to be able to get something done. I also finished the bear last night.

I think I have only 8,000 words left on SEAL Wolf Surrender. Maybe less.

It’s amazing to me when I start out with so little and end up with a book. Of course, it will be longer than that. That’s just the minimum word count and I always aim for that because I tend to write way too long otherwise. I also edit as I go along because things change in the story and I need to update. It’s also the way I keep from making the story toooo big. If I write to the end, then begin to edit, I have to flesh out scenes and the story grows and grows and grows. And, when I do finally finish the story, when I go back through to reread and edit, it’s not as much of a job because I’ve edited several times already. It also helps me to see where I’ve started threads and can expand on them, if I’m stuck moving forward. I know the “rule” is to write and write and write and don’t edit your book to death, but I can’t do it like that. My books were running 130-140K when I was doing that. lol

I’m not a plotter. I can’t plan out the story from beginning to end no matter how much I love the idea. It just doesn’t work for me. But I do begin to tie up loose ends near the end of the story. Wait, why was this guy introduced? Can I make him more important, or eliminate him? Wait, what happened to that situation? If I mentioned it, it has to be crucial to the story, make it so, or take it out. So right now, I’ve got to figure out the fantastic end. The end that makes readers feel satisfied and can’t wait for the next book!

I’m still trying to figure it out. Sometimes, if I try too hard, it won’t come. I just need to keep moving forward and then, at some point, the light bulb flickers on, and that’s it. Just the perfect ending!

Off to write! Have a great day. I think the storms have subsided for the time being, but they’ve been nice while they lasted!

Violent Storms…Needed the Rain

Red-breasted grosbeak and white-winged dove and storms.

I spent the morning picking up tree branches in the yard, but nothing was damaged. Most were dead branches from neighbors’ trees. But lightning, thunder, kept me off the internet. I worked on my laptop, had it disconnected from the electricity. The storm would stop and start again. Stop, and start.

We so needed the rain, so that was a good thing. The puppies were in bed most of the day, had a time taking them out in the rain. They haven’t seen it for a while!

Made goal, 10K to go. Also finished Patriotic Patrick Bear and getting him ready to ship!

My books in Sydney and Patriotic Patrick ready to ship!

And a fan spotted my books in Sydney!

Back to the book! We may have storms at the end of the week, but this one was really crazy…coming, not coming, pouring, thundering, stopped like it had gone away, and then would start up again, over and over. We had flood watches, but luckily no tornado watches.

Off to write! Have a beautiful day!

Mohair Bears and Bunny

So I went to the maternity shoot, and the couple was so much fun. As soon as I got home, I had to go to a neighbor’s Super Bowl party, and that was enjoyable. Picked up another bear order. lol

I looked at some of the maternity pictures, and a lot of them came out beautifully. They wanted pictures of the two dogs too, so between them trying to get them situated, and the dogs being distracted, that was a challenge. But I loved the pictures with the dogs.

I’ll show off a couple soon.

Here are some more bears, but these are the more expensive mohair furs from England and Germany. In the old days, the US had factories that made mohair sweaters, but they don’t any more. So the mohair fabric has to come from Overseas. I love, love, love it, but the material is sooooo expensive–$135-150 or more a yard, and I can’t sell them for much more than I sell plush, which is $35 a yard for the special furs. Once I finish selling off the ones I can make of the mohair fabric I have left, I won’t be offering them any longer. But I do love them!

I hadn’t planned on making any word count yesterday, but I managed 1,000, so am up to 4,000. Seventy-six thousand to go! It might seem impossible, but I didn’t think I’d have 4,000 at the rate I was going!

And I finished up a purple bear that I’ll show off tomorrow. I have to wait until it’s light out to take a picture. 🙂

Oh, and reviews said that the 85mm lens was supposed to be great for portraits. I’ve tried to take pictures with it before, but they’re always way too dark. In the viewer, all I have is black scenes. I used it to shoot the mohair bears and bunny, but on automatic. I haven’t used the auto setting in eons, once I learned how to do manual. But…with this lens, the pictures were like totally black, no matter how I adjusted settings. Auto did a beautiful job on them. The pictures below are of Tanner, my perfect model as he always loves to pose for me. The first was with manual, indoors, and the second, on Auto, outdoors. Yes, the lighting was dark in the house, overcast skies so not a lot of light from outside through the windows. But when I tried to do the manual outdoors, it was still really dark pictures. So I used auto on the maternity shoot and they turned out beautifully. When I did my daughter and her husband’s maternity shoot last year, I think I used the 28-300 lens, they were soft. So these were nice and sharp.

Have to ship a bear and check on shipping costs for a bear to Australia, and finish another bear too! But I also have to get my word count. And go over the maternity shoot photos so I can send them off.

So off to get started. Yes, it’s 4 am….couldn’t sleep, too much to do. 🙂

Have a great one!!!
