I’m Free!

Free! Free! I’m free! Until I pick up little one at school. It’s thundering and pouring rain, just the way I love it. Except for the flooded streets. You would think they could engineer things better so that the streets wouldn’t flood like that. Cutting costs? I’m sure of it.

But because of the rain and thunder, that meant taking Max out on leash. He got soaked, and so did I, before he did his duty, resigned to Mommy keeping him out in the rain until he did it. Now, I told him that if he’d just gone and done his business like Tanner had done, he wouldn’t have had to get that wet. Does he listen to me? No.

As I was driving home in the pouring rain, I saw 8 great white herons at one of the ponds and instantly, I wanted to take pictures of them. In the lightning and rain, sure. *sigh* And it’s going to rain all day, so no chance of going there in a bit to try and do it. So much fun.

But right now, I have the whole day to myself, except for picking up little one and dropping her off at home. We had fun though all day. Read Highlights Magazine for little ones, read books, tried to put Max in her bed and he was happy to be with her and she was falling asleep, but then if I left, he wanted to come with me. After trying until 9 pm, I gave up and took her to bed with me and Max lost out and had to sleep in his crate. Tanner loves sleeping in his crate. He’d prefer that to a soft bed. Silly dog.

Last night I wanted to take the dogs out one last time for the night and I told little one to shut the door so the mosquitoes didn’t fly into the house and eat us all up. So she did. And. Locked. The. Door. And couldn’t get it unlocked. This will have to go into a story for sure. Grandma’s out in the dark with two dogs, all three of us wanting to go inside and little one is screaming and crying and struggling to unlock the door. I’m thinking, I have no cell phone, and even if I walked to my neighbor’s house to use their phone, I don’t have my daughter’s phone memorized. The hazard of touching a screen and the number is magically called. Little one wouldn’t know how to call her mother, another thought I had. And I wasn’t even sure where my phone was. In the mail bag, but I usually didn’t throw it in there.

I calmly told her to bring her stepstool over to the door and try the lock. I figured if she was higher, she’d have more leverage, and it worked. Then I had to comfort a sobbing child, hoping she wouldn’t do that again. But when I was going to sleep last night, I had a thought. If she locks me out by accident again, and if the stool trick doesn’t work, she can unlock the front door and I told her this morning about that, and I’d run around to the front door as fast as I could.

She’s done that to me at her parents’ house, and her dad has locked me out, or her mother, a time or two, but at least they’re adults and can come around and get in with the security code.

And the TV went out completely when I got home with her, so we had to do other creative things to pass the time. Which means no TV for me either and maybe I’ll get more writing done at night too.

Right now, I have the whole day to myself, except for picking up little one and dropping her off at home. So I need to pack up little one’s stuff for this afternoon, but otherwise, I’m in full writing mode.

Hope you all have a wonderful day. Mine is going to be great!

Taking a Nature Walk

Little one and I had a lovely walk, though it was hot and muggy. One of the ponds I know has turtles, but we can’t ever entice them to come to eat. So we went to another one where no one feeds them, and saw that some of the fish are getting bigger and some small turtles came to check us out. They didn’t know what to do about the turtle food we were tossing out to them. Then finally, one of the baby turtles started eating them and three others joined him.

We walked around the pond some more to feed turtles that were farther away and finally made it halfway around to where there were bigger turtles. They were the same way. They weren’t sure what we were doing, but they figured out we were going to feed them. But it looks like someone’s hand feeding them. So they came right up to us and the food was all around them on the water and on the pavement next to the water. They finally started eating the food, and I got some pictures.

Turtles coming up to be fed.

And someone had made up two little roly-poly crossing signs, lol, on the path. We did see one as we were walking. Did you know they are not insects? But isopods.

Armadillidiidae (the scientific name for pill bugs) have so many different names to chose from, for instance:

  • Armadillo Bugs
  • Doodle Bugs
  • Wood Lice
  • Potato Bugs
  • Roly-polies

I was going to have little one play in the sprinkler afterward because we were so hot, but she wanted to eat hot dogs and then lie down and watch an animated feature. I’m thinking, if it’s not sizzling out, I might pick her up after errands this morning, and make her walk the half mile to my place. But I’m afraid I might have to carry her part ways. So maybe I’ll walk down with an empty stroller. I’ll have to check the weather though. 82. Hmm, and thunderstorms after that. So I’ll just have to see. I’m taking her overnight again, but after that, I need to write, so Grandma needs a break.

I took more pictures of the kids last night and then I had told my granddaughter we could go outside to look at flowers. I’d forgotten, after we had eaten. She hadn’t. lol My daughter only has one growing–a zinnia. I have tons of different flowers–some zinnia coming up from seeds last year, marigold also, roses in profusion, daylilies blooming like crazy. Asiatic lilies, coneflowers, salvia, gerbera daisies, mums, dianthus, phlox, and other flowers. I love it when the perennials come back in full bloom and the annuals reseed themselves making them practically perennials.  I was out gardening one day when a dad was walking with his little daughter and we said hi, and he told his daughter, that’s the lady with the flower garden. That was nice. And every year, it gets to be fuller and more beautiful.

So I went out and took a picture of the one flower my daughter had and then my granddaughter showed me the clover growing in the yard, so I had to get low and take pictures of it. I have two kinds–one is the good stuff with white flowers and variegated leaves, the other clover has burs, yellow flowers, and solid green clover leaves. I have to pull those up before the burs drop and they’re in the dogs’ fur. It’s a constant battle.

Hope you all have a delightful day!! I need to run my trash out, feed the dogs, and get going this morning!!!

It is easy to fall in love with these characters and almost hear the sexy brogue as they speak. The humor pops in at various times with everyone trying to “help” Enrick and Heather with their courtship whether they wanted it or not. The courtship is filled with animated discussions concerning their past feelings, their work, her engagement, and her fiance’s death – these conversations did a lot to bring all the characters’ full personalities out for the readers to see. That said Ms. Spear’s bad guys were certainly a nasty lot that were easy to root against and wonder what was wrong with their wimp of an alpha.

So if you want sexy, kilted wolf shifters, a strong, intrepid heroine, watching a movie in progress, some secrets, and mysteries, danger and drama while watching a sweet romance that finally leads to a lovely mating then get your hands on THE WOLF WORE PLAID.

Romance Fantasy | Action | Paranormal Romance

THE WOLF WORE PLAID has Scottish charm, brave characters, and a sweet romance. The hostile actions by the rival pack spur the action along and give the hero and heroine moments to shine. Terry Spear paints a very vivid picture as battles – both fake and real – take place on the Scottish landscape. I hope to read about Heather’s brothers finding mates in future stories. I look forward to Terry Spear’s next wolfy romance.

Thanks so much to the reviewers and fans who have reached out to me and told me they love the story!! It’s amazing how uplifting the words are to a writer: “I couldn’t put the book down” and then I know I’ve done something right!!

Well, it’s going to be a busy day today with little one, maybe. We did the car wash last night and had hot dogs, so we had a good evening watching a show about Color in Animals and one about a family who takes care of koala bears in Australia. We couldn’t walk because it started raining on our walk and we were supposed to have thunderstorms. I don’t think they ever materialized, but we went straight to hot dogs instead.

So today, we’re going to do our nature walk as soon as she finishes her Micky and Minnie Mouse waffles. Feed the turtles in the pond, take photos of anything I can find to take pictures of. And later, I’ll take pictures of the two kids together, if it works out. You never know with a newborn and a pre-schooler.

I’m hoping to get a little writing done. She keeps wanting to stay overnight with me, but she woke on the wrong side of the bed this morning, and she might sleep at her own house tonight. Apparently the baby didn’t wake her up all night like they were afraid he would on Monday night. I have her all day tomorrow, but Grandma needs to get some time to work. 🙂

Hope you all have a great day!!! I can’t wait to go on our nature walk!

The Wolf Wore Plaid is Out!

April 27, 2021

An overprotective wolf meets his match in the Scottish Highlands of today…

Heather MacNeil has never backed down from a fight. So when some shady shifters from a neighboring enemy clan come looking for trouble, she refuses to feed their satisfaction. There’s only one wolf that makes her go soft…

For packmate Enrick MacQuarrie, the work as second-in-command never ends—as the feud ignites, clan security is more vital than ever. But a certain unpredictable, feisty Highland lass is determined to stand up to the aggressors, and Enrick is equally determined to protect her.

The action builds as Heather and Enrick grow closer, but will they be willing to sacrifice their wild friendship for true love?

Praise for the Highland Wolf series:

I’ve been wanting to write the next book in the Highland series forever, and had a blast doing it!

Heather MacNeill has been an important character in nearly all of the previous Highland wolf books with the MacNeill clan, cousin to Ian MacNeill the pack leader of his clan, and I finally found her match. Enrick MacQuarrie is the pack leader, Grant MacQuarrie’s brother and he finally has his story. I love being able to go back to a wolf pack and bring them to life again! And we’re back into movie magic, but in a whole different way!

Next year, I’ll have another Billionaire wolf–Derek Spencer and Kate’s story, Red Wolf, Maverick’s story, and White Wolf–David Davis and Elizabeth’s story out. So I probably will write the other Highland brother’s story in 2022 for 2023 release. I’ll also have two cougar novels out this year–one September 1st–Saving the White Cougar (Halloween), and one in the summer sometime (You Had Me at Cougar). So lots more fun reading coming up!! I do want to finish Angel Fae and write a polar bear story, but I’m still working on Billionaire, need to write the United Shifter Force Christmas novella for an anthology, and the red wolf Christmas story this year also.

And my daughter just gave birth to a new baby boy, so…I’ve been helping with him and taking pictures, and helping with my 4-year-old granddaughter who adores her baby brother–so far. lol

I’m back to writing on Billionaire this morning, so enjoy the new release and there are more to come!

Tomorrow the Wolf Wore Plaid is Out!

Okay, I dropped off little one at school. Last night, she didn’t want to sleep in her own room, so I had to set rules. No Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. No lights flashing across the ceiling. Once she agreed to the terms, she was asleep in my bed in an instant. Of course she wanted all of it. But I said she could sleep in grandma’s bed with the lights and music and I’d sleep in her room, but she didn’t want that. lol. So she agreed.

Then I had sinus issues, felt like my teeth needed to be pulled, so it took me forever to fall asleep last night. She wasn’t the problem. Thankfully.

Another novella coming out separately. I think this one is in the 10th Anniversary Release of Destiny of the Wolf.

I need to get back on track with my work. I try to work on it all the time when I’m free during the few minutes I am. I took little one out to play in the sprinkler last night, and Tanner, one of my silly dogs, raced back and forth with her, loving the water. So they were fun to watch and I know that wore her out too. She wanted to stay with me today and not go to preschool, but they’re having a nature walk and so I told her about that and she was excited about that.

I saw a hairy woodpecker this morning and was trying to capture a shot of it. Not sure if any of them turned out.

I’m off to work and get some other things done! Have a great day! I’m excited to get mine going!

Baby Bear on a Rug

This was my first picture of the baby, and he’s a dream to work with. My granddaughter didn’t like her arms or legs confined. Forget swaddling.

Well, the baby is a sleeper, so it was easy for me to dress him and redress him and dress him over again for pictures. Big sister adores him–so far. I took a few of the 2 of them. But last night, she fell out of bed twice, she said, and came to get me. The first time, I managed to get her back to sleep at 1, but I couldn’t sleep. About 4:30, I was sound asleep and she came in at 5:30, so that was the end of me trying to sleep. Then my daughter said they didn’t get any sleep. I’m off to get them kolaches this morning, me a chocolate donut, and little one donut holes. And then we’ll take turns taking naps. lol

I may take her again tonight, but this time, I’ll set the rocking chair next to the bed so she can’t fall out. I didn’t know what’s what was happening! We were watching a beautiful program about colorful animals in the wild and thoroughly enjoying it. She would stay up all night, but once I start brushing my teeth, she wants to brush hers and we’re off to bed. Then I was editing. I guess I should have been sleeping. lol

My SIL is getting his first COVID vaccination this afternoon, so I’m really glad for that. We’re not out of the woods until a whole lot more people are vaccinated. My DIL gets her second one next week, my son got his on Thursday.

Okay, got to get going.

Have a super fun day! I know I will!! Sleep deprived and all.

The Grand-baby Finally Came!

Baby boy finally came!!! Little one and I have taken a walk, and we’re waiting on Momma to say she’s ready for us to come over. We’re getting donuts and I’m taking my camera to take pictures. He was over 9 lbs! And looks like he’s not a newborn. lol That’s what happens when the baby is a week late, I guess! So he and Mom are healthy and little one is anxious to see her baby brother.

We had a new sleeping arrangement last night. Both dogs slept in their crates in her room and she slept ALL night! Though she said her lights went off in the middle of the night. I told her we’d set them for longer. So at 6:45 this monring, she climbs into bed with me, talking away. Usually I’d be up by then, but I was having trouble sleeping last night and the kids and baby didn’t get home until 10 last night, so we talked for a while.

I managed to get some work done on the book. I need to do more edits this morning if I can get them done early before I get called to come over, but I figured I’d quickly get my blog done first.

It’s super soupy out this morning. Hot and muggy. I felt like I was back in Florida. It stormed on and off all day yesterday and we passed by some gigantic fire ant hills.

Cartoons are on, keeping little one occupied and then I’m going to get busy on edits, quickly! Oh, they said they just woke up. So 8:30 is the plan.

Hope you have a fun day! We’re off to have fun with ours! No longer waiting on baby, yay!

Playing with Scrap Art with My Granddaughter

My granddaughter and I try to put together a picture a day when she’s here–using scrap art. I was trying to teach her the basics of drawing a house, building blocks. But she’s more into just wildly scribbling. My parents were both artists and I had hoped that maybe a grandchild might be an artist. I think some of it truly has to do with the genes.

Yesterday was Earth Day, forgot to mention it, but we planted oregano and thyme and chives in the planter box we put together. We still need more dirt and I want to put pavers in there to walk to the herbs so that it doesn’t fill with grass and weeds around it.

I only got about a 100 words on Billionaire during edits, but got up to chapter 11. I had a couple of ideas if I remember them this morning. It was at 3 am and I didn’t want to get up and write them down. And that can mean forgetting them by morning. lol

So no granddaughter today and that means that I hopefully can get to the end of the book and begin writing a bunch of new scenes that will finish the book!!

No baby yet. And my SIL cancelled his vaccination shot for today, thinking if she goes into labor today, he needs to be there for her.

Our vaccinations are lower than the country’s–23.7% for fully vaccinated, 27.2% for the country. Hopefully, that will pick up. I keep thinking that if people would just get it done, we could be able to open more things up, not have to wear masks all the time, avoid lengthy hospital stays, you know? Normalcy? Or near normalcy? They say that more women are getting shots than men. Hmmm.

Now the guys are supposed to be alpha heroes… So what’s the deal with that?

Okay, I’m off to get started on my writing.

Hope you all have a beautiful day!

Gerbera Daisy Photo Art

Well, still no baby. I was rushing around to get the garbage out and feed the dogs and need to feed the birds. Little one will be here momentarily. I was cleaning house yesterday. I don’t know how things can get so messy when I’m just working  on the computer all day. lol

But dust accumulates, the dogs drag in grass and pine needles, little one brings out a ton of books for me to read, her workbooks to do, and toys to play with, and oh, yes, all my new fur is sitting on the table, calling me to cut it up into little bears and I don’t want to put it away until I have done so.

And there you have it. Multiple messes and I haven’t hardly created any of it. Except for cooking meals, of course, but I keep after that.

It’s cold again this morning, but I bundled up more. Feels like 49 this morning. I was out trying to break up some of the hibiscus branches to put out with the trash. I don’t know if they’ll come back at the roots or not. I put them in last year, so they may be dead completely. My esperanza is coming back at the roots and it will be 10 feet tall during the growing season, but I’m not sure about the hibiscus.

I’d rather have plants that can handle our heat and ice storms if we get them because I don’t want to lose them if we’re going to start getting weirder weather all the time.

My neighbors all over our neighborhood had beautiful Japanese blueberry trees, someone called them and they’re all dead. And so are the oleanders. It’s too costly to keep replacing beautiful plants that have survived 8-10 years and then in one cold freeze–that we might continue to have intermittently–they’re wiped out. Not to mention it’s a pain to take them down.

I’m still not sure about that one pine tree. It looked like it had a bunch of new pine needles. And the boxwood I move is still hanging on. So I wait and see. And I haven’t torn out my hibiscus just yet, though my neighbor, after having his for years, pulled his up and said they didn’t have any live roots, so….

Little one should be here any second. I’ve got to get some more stuff done and work on some more edits on Billionaire. I’m nearly up to 70K. I need 80K minimum, but I was thinking about a car running my heroine off the road and so I need to write that scene next. Yay!

Okay, have a super, fun day and I’m off to have fun with mine!!

Bumblebees and Honeybees in the Garden

Tons of bumblebees and honeybees loving on all the tiny, tiny flowers of the sky pencil hollies. I have a whole row of them I planted along the fence when I first moved here 7 years ago and every year in the spring, they’re full of tiny, little white blossoms. To the bees, they are gems. I love them too because they grow in columnar form so they don’t take up a lot of room. I didn’t realize when I planted them that they were the bees’ knees in spring and summer.

Well, no baby yet. So still a wait and watch and wait and watch.

I’ll have little one over for the day, so at least she’ll be here if it happens. Same with tomorrow.

Yesterday, I went to pull up weeds around my sky pencil holly, forgetting that they are full of flowers AND bumblebees and honeybees. I had to quickly nix that idea! I took pictures instead. The holly are a flurry of honey-making business and I’m happy for it!

At least two of my bell pepper seeds are off to a good start on producing green bell peppers. I had just thrown a bunch of seeds in the ground when I was making stuffed bell peppers for lunches where they had grown before and they’re as happy as can be. It’s the same place where the midget tomato plants did so well and near where the other bell peppers had done so well. It’s 41 this morning, so cold for us though.

I got the raised bed materials to make that, so I’m going to solicit little one’s help and we’re going to put it together. Yesterday, she made a box car out of one of the boxes the fur came in. I told her she needed to decorate it, so that kept her busy for a while, coloring all the sides and the bottom. Then she decided it was a box bed and in went her pillow, blanket, and a couple of stuffed toys.

I had thought of going to Home Depot this morning to get more rocks–you know, to keep out the weeds, ha! And some more pavers so I can raise the flower bed up more. Even though it’s a raised bed, it’s only about 9″ tall, so not all that raised. It would really be nice to have a super raised bed where I wouldn’t have to bend over at all. Would that be like lazy gardening? If it worked, I’m all for it. lol

Well, I’m off to get something done before little one gets here. I managed to get 69K on edits on Billionaire so far. I’ve been reading from the beginning and while I’m doing that, I’m making edits so it adds a little at a time, not like when I’m just writing scenes.

Hope you all have a beautiful day. A friend told me in Minnesota, they’re paying landowners to grow plants that bees love. Man, I wish they’d do that here!
