Gerbera Daisy Photo Art

Well, still no baby. I was rushing around to get the garbage out and feed the dogs and need to feed the birds. Little one will be here momentarily. I was cleaning house yesterday. I don’t know how things can get so messy when I’m just working  on the computer all day. lol

But dust accumulates, the dogs drag in grass and pine needles, little one brings out a ton of books for me to read, her workbooks to do, and toys to play with, and oh, yes, all my new fur is sitting on the table, calling me to cut it up into little bears and I don’t want to put it away until I have done so.

And there you have it. Multiple messes and I haven’t hardly created any of it. Except for cooking meals, of course, but I keep after that.

It’s cold again this morning, but I bundled up more. Feels like 49 this morning. I was out trying to break up some of the hibiscus branches to put out with the trash. I don’t know if they’ll come back at the roots or not. I put them in last year, so they may be dead completely. My esperanza is coming back at the roots and it will be 10 feet tall during the growing season, but I’m not sure about the hibiscus.

I’d rather have plants that can handle our heat and ice storms if we get them because I don’t want to lose them if we’re going to start getting weirder weather all the time.

My neighbors all over our neighborhood had beautiful Japanese blueberry trees, someone called them and they’re all dead. And so are the oleanders. It’s too costly to keep replacing beautiful plants that have survived 8-10 years and then in one cold freeze–that we might continue to have intermittently–they’re wiped out. Not to mention it’s a pain to take them down.

I’m still not sure about that one pine tree. It looked like it had a bunch of new pine needles. And the boxwood I move is still hanging on. So I wait and see. And I haven’t torn out my hibiscus just yet, though my neighbor, after having his for years, pulled his up and said they didn’t have any live roots, so….

Little one should be here any second. I’ve got to get some more stuff done and work on some more edits on Billionaire. I’m nearly up to 70K. I need 80K minimum, but I was thinking about a car running my heroine off the road and so I need to write that scene next. Yay!

Okay, have a super, fun day and I’m off to have fun with mine!!

Bumblebees and Honeybees in the Garden

Tons of bumblebees and honeybees loving on all the tiny, tiny flowers of the sky pencil hollies. I have a whole row of them I planted along the fence when I first moved here 7 years ago and every year in the spring, they’re full of tiny, little white blossoms. To the bees, they are gems. I love them too because they grow in columnar form so they don’t take up a lot of room. I didn’t realize when I planted them that they were the bees’ knees in spring and summer.

Well, no baby yet. So still a wait and watch and wait and watch.

I’ll have little one over for the day, so at least she’ll be here if it happens. Same with tomorrow.

Yesterday, I went to pull up weeds around my sky pencil holly, forgetting that they are full of flowers AND bumblebees and honeybees. I had to quickly nix that idea! I took pictures instead. The holly are a flurry of honey-making business and I’m happy for it!

At least two of my bell pepper seeds are off to a good start on producing green bell peppers. I had just thrown a bunch of seeds in the ground when I was making stuffed bell peppers for lunches where they had grown before and they’re as happy as can be. It’s the same place where the midget tomato plants did so well and near where the other bell peppers had done so well. It’s 41 this morning, so cold for us though.

I got the raised bed materials to make that, so I’m going to solicit little one’s help and we’re going to put it together. Yesterday, she made a box car out of one of the boxes the fur came in. I told her she needed to decorate it, so that kept her busy for a while, coloring all the sides and the bottom. Then she decided it was a box bed and in went her pillow, blanket, and a couple of stuffed toys.

I had thought of going to Home Depot this morning to get more rocks–you know, to keep out the weeds, ha! And some more pavers so I can raise the flower bed up more. Even though it’s a raised bed, it’s only about 9″ tall, so not all that raised. It would really be nice to have a super raised bed where I wouldn’t have to bend over at all. Would that be like lazy gardening? If it worked, I’m all for it. lol

Well, I’m off to get something done before little one gets here. I managed to get 69K on edits on Billionaire so far. I’ve been reading from the beginning and while I’m doing that, I’m making edits so it adds a little at a time, not like when I’m just writing scenes.

Hope you all have a beautiful day. A friend told me in Minnesota, they’re paying landowners to grow plants that bees love. Man, I wish they’d do that here!

Little Bluebird Checking out Treats–Photo Art

Little bluebird trying to figure out what will be the best seeds to eat.

Well, I shipped off the rest of the bears and the last book yesterday, dancercized with my daughter for a while, and then early evening, she said she was having steady contractions so I took my granddaughter home with me last night. I can’t get her to sleep in her own bed where she could have all the star lights racing across the room or Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star playing for hours that soothes her, but drives me mad.

So I have her on her mat for a few minutes in my room, but then she was crying. *sigh*

She ends up in bed with me, though I have been able to get her down for naps on her mat some afternoons I have her. Then when she fell asleep, I turned off the music, yay! Still had to endure the wildly rolling lights. But she was clinging to me and I finally went to the other side of the bed to have some me space and the next thing I know, she’s clinging to me again. lol

I did finally manage to sleep some though. I asked her if she noticed I moved to the other side of the bed last night.

“Yes, and I followed you.”

I just had to laugh. So then this morning, she did NOT want to go to preschool. I told her that her teacher would be sad–she adores her teacher, and that I might end up having her overnight again if the baby tries to come. I normally have her here Wed and Thurs, so no preschool, and I hope I sleep better! Anyway, she’s at school for now and that means I need to get something done on my writing before I have to pick her up! I may end up at my daughter’s house in the middle of the night, or I might just keep Keira tonight, who knows. The baby doesn’t want to come.

All right, got to get to work!

Have a super, lovely day! Mine, I fear, is going to be crazy.

Wren Photo Art

Wren Deep in Thought

I love the little wrens with their upturned tails. This one was sitting on my fence. One was on the feeder yesterday. I should have taken shots of her and of the red-headed woodpecker. I don’t see them very often, but I was so trying to finish up the edits on the book. I haven’t seen the red-headed woodpecker return. See? I should have gotten shots of the woodpecker when I had the chance.

My daylilies are all in bloom. I need to get a couple of pictures of them. It’s taken a while for them to really look like a showcase of flowers. I’m glad I put them in early on! And they make me want to do some more plantings of them. They have such a sunny disposition and they flower daily, so a constant bloom. I’ve seen where some gardens have like a drift of them throughout the garden. So pretty. And they don’t mind any kind of soil. Which helps. Low maintenance!

I finished edits on the Best of Both Wolves and turned it in. Yay! No baby yet. *sigh*

And I’m finishing up the other bear for the bear order this morning. Name and birth date on paws. Need hearts and a nose and he’s done. Then I need to get him and the little bear ready to ship, and the book to Hawaii off. And then it’s back to Billionaire–67K on that book. It’s due July 1st, so I still have time, but I still wanted to finish it up by the end of April. Will I? Maybe not once baby is here.

Then I need to finish You Had Me at Cougar–30K on that book, work on United Shifter Force Christmas, a novella–2,000 words so far, this one about the human Rowdy Sanderson and all he wants for Christmas is to be a wolf, this is for a Christmas anthology with other authors, and the next deadline book, another red wolf Christmas. It has to do with Maverick and the reindeer ranch, but not sure what the story will be about.

So lots of projects to complete–all fun!

Have a great day! I’ve got to get that bear done first thing!!

Muscovy Duck–Photo Art

Muscovy Ducks are bigger ducks, smaller than geese, and when I saw them I wasn’t sure what they were. These were at the Japanese gardens by the Houston Zoo. And then I worked some photo art texture magic.

So no baby yet. It’s past due. I had pizza with them last night and I managed to finally get to ch 19 on Best of Both Wolves edits. I wanted to get further–at least to ch 20, but I had to do a lot of revisions on ch 16, which led to revisions on ch 15 again and got through ch 17 and 18, yay!  The prologue I had is essential to the story. When I tried to take it out, it wouldn’t work. And when I made it work, I reached ch 16, and realized just why it couldn’t work!

I wanted to make this a summer story. The heroine had been in the Christmas story working the job she’s working. She’s been with the pack for 7 months. Unless I wanted to make this a winter story, and I didn’t–I have too much invested in boating on the lakes, etc, it wouldn’t work. The easiest solution is to have a prologue. Like I had already and everything worked!!!

Okay, so I’m hoping to get this done, expecting the baby any minute, and halfway done on finishing up the last bear order. I want to get those 2 bears and a book shipped Monday morning first thing.

Hope you all have a great day and note to self–the book is mine. The story is mine. I have reasons–valid reasons–for how I write them. 🙂 Now I have to go back in and resurrect the story the way I had it in the beginning. But I’m getting close to the end. Again!

Swans a Swimming

Swans and their reflections on the pond. I took the photo at the Houston Zoo and then added Daily Texture textures.

I didn’t get a lot done yesterday. I did ship off a bear and 2 books. I spent the whole day working on the Best of Both Wolves. I reached the end and started over again, so I reached chapter 12 last night, which isn’t too bad, considering this should be the last time.

l was hoping I’d get this done this weekend, still hoping for that. It all depends if the baby ever comes. lol. But I’m working on the edits constantly, so hopefully!

In the meantime, still waiting on the baby.

We had wild storms yesterday, but for today, it looks like it’s tapering off. And we had a cool down, so our high is only going to be 66. I think some sunflowers are coming up, and maybe a bell pepper plant!

It’s really chilly this morning. Okay, no baby yet, off to get going on the book edits again. Hope to get to at least to ch 20 today.

Have a great day! The dogs and birds are waiting on breakfast!!

Baby Goldfinch Photo Art

Goldfinch Baby on My Fence

I took this picture of a baby goldfinch that didn’t fly off when I went outside. The birds wouldn’t if the dogs would always chase them. It’s like a game for them.

This time the bird was just sitting near the fountain. But little one was with me. “Don’t get near the bird, just stand still, don’t move.”

That’s like telling a butterfly not to go to the flowers in her path. lol

Anyway, she scared it off to the fence, but the bird was so calm. It just sat on the fence and got close and I was able to get some good photos. So I was showing her the picture that I had turned into art and asked if she remembered the little baby bird.

“Oh, yes.”

“And I told you not to go near it so I could take pictures of it?”

“Oh, yes.”

So when her mom came to pick her up, my granddaughter was telling us to be quiet, not to talk loudly, sneak across the floor or we would would scare the birds. Now, we’re sitting inside and not chasing after birds. I just thought it was funny.

Well, we managed a nice long walk yesterday. And another later, no baby yet today. Violent storms and pea sized hail last evening. One of my dogs is terrified during storms but he finally settled down on my lap while I combed him out. We had nearly 2 inches of rain.

And I managed to get up to chapter 24 of Best of Both Wolves. This is the first time through and I have 5 more chapters to go. Hopefully this weekend I’ll be able to finish it up. My daughter said she’d pick up my granddaughter from daycare today. But that’s contingent on if the baby doesn’t come. It looks like we’re going to have thunderstorms all day too.

I’m going to try and ship books and one bear this morning. I still need to finish the other for a 2 bear order. Trying to get the edits done on this book. And I managed to reach 30K on You Had Me at Cougar.

Hope you all have a lovely day! I’m back to edits! Once I’m done with those, I’ll be back to working on the billionaire story and the cougar one.

Gold Finches

So my granddaughter and I planted lots of flower seeds yesterday. We also walked in the misty, rainy morning and my granddaughter was worried about her hair getting damp. lol I told her that’s why she should wear her hat, that she kept dropping. She had a ball planting. She uses my kneeling pad to sit on, then scrapes away at the dirt and then pours ALL the seeds from a package in one hole. I try to teach her they need to be spread out. It doesn’t seem to be sinking in, so that’s my job. Spread them out and cover them up. She tells me they need dirt, water and sunlight to grow.

We have fun gardening together, and of course I’m weeding like crazy too.

So my daughter finally decided to take off from work to have the baby and I’m so glad. She wants to walk tomorrow. I’m still taking care of little one. So I suggested Little One and I meet her at her house a half mile away and we walk her to the community center to sign up for the pool. But I drive my car to the center, so that I can drive her home if she can’t make it back. I’ll have little one’s stroller because I know she won’t be able to make a mile and a half. This is all contingent on the weather, my daughter not having the baby in the middle of the night, or by the time we’re going to walk in the afternoon, or that she feels she can walk that distance.

At least I think it’s going to be a little cooler today, and we did finally have storms last night.

We had a notice thanking us for conserving on our electricity because we nearly had a catastrophe yesterday. Wait, what? Number one, I didn’t get a notice to conserve. Number two, I absolutely refuse to put on my air conditioning until it’s consistently at a hundred or so degrees. I had the fans on. The house was fine. But one day of 98 degrees and we’re going to be without electricity? Like when we had the freezing weather for a week?

Something is seriously wrong with our electric provider in this state:

Thank you for responding to the request by the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) to conserve power yesterday.

According to ERCOT, demand for electricity came close to the amount of power generation available yesterday afternoon. At approximately 4:30 p.m. on April 13, ERCOT issued a conservation alert and you answered the call. Because of your response, the grid held strong.

Wait until we have weeks of 110 degree weather!!! They have really mishandled things. And I’m afraid it’s only going to get worse. Weirder weather, you know.

Okay, I’ve got to get to work. And I hope you have a lovely day!!!

Roseate Spoonbill Wading–Photo Art

Roseate Spoonbill wading in the water. I did a Topaz Labs oil on top of it, and added fish to the water. This one was at the Houston Zoo, but we saw one flying overhead here too.

I’m on chapter 9 of edits on The Best of Both Wolves and enjoying the re-read. I wrote it last year, so I forgot all that I had written. On the story, the editor asks, “Are there tornadoes in Portland, Oregon?”

Not while I lived there, but we are now into Weirder Weather time. And so in 2019 they had a tornado and in 2020 they had three. So yes, they’ve have tornadoes in Portland, Oregon. I do research. Really, I do.

Does Houston get category 5 hurricanes? Not usually. Do we get 9 degree weather for a whole week? Not usually. And snow? And ice? Not usually. Though we’ve had snow twice before during a winter season over a period of 2 years since I’ve lived here in 6 years, before the latest snow. See? Weirder Weather.

I had where the rain was coming down hard, then dropped to a light shower and the editor asked, “Can it do that so quickly?” Uhm, yes. It can pour violently, stop, shower, shower, pour violently, be like a heavy fog, go to big water droplets, but not really a heavy downpour, then go to a heavy downpour or stop, or….. Really? Of course. Rain can do all kinds of things, in all kinds of order. It can fall in one spot and not another, or lightly in one spot and heavy in another at the same time. Heck, I’ve had rain in the backyard–pouring down cats and dogs rain and then out front? Nothing! Or half a mile away at my daughter’s house, it can be pouring and I don’t have a drop of rain. The same when I lived a half mile from my mom. One of us would have a downpour and the other wouldn’t, when we both wanted it!

The baby hasn’t come yet. Every time I go out to weed or replant or plant, I forget my phone and then have to check it to see if my son-in-law has called to say I have to drive him to my daughter’s workplace so he can take her in her car to deliver the baby. Or when I’ve gone to bed, worrying that they’ll drop off little one in the middle of the night and I’ll have to get her settled somewhere. Any minute now, the baby could come.

So today I had planned on all kinds of outdoor activities with little one. A walk to a pond to take pictures by a bank of yellow irises, planting more flower seeds (yesterday, she was looking for the ones we planted two days ago, asking where the flowers were, lol), and playing in the sprinkler. But we’re supposed to get storms all morning through tomorrow. Hmm, the baby will come then. At least that’s what some sources say. Storms=more deliveries.

The baby is due tomorrow, so maybe. Though it was full term a couple of weeks ago.

So, little one and I will probably be doing lots of indoor activities instead of outdoor activities today and tomorrow.

Hope you all have a beautiful day. We are supposed to have thunderstorms, not just rain. But I can always use the rain. I’m hoping to get a couple of more chapters edited before little one gets here. I have 20 to go! Just finished edits on You Had Me at Cougar. 300 more words and I’ll have a 1,000. 🙂

I was out early this morning before it was barely light out trying to move a boxwood that isn’t happy where it’s at. It’s dying, and then sprouting new green leaves and dying, so I hope where I moved it to will be a great new start for it. It’s a section where everything grows well. But it might be too late for the poor little boxwood. It was so far behind plants, I could barely see it to notice the bad shape it was in. Initially, it was the biggest of the boxwoods back there!

No baby yet! I thought with the storms we were supposed to have last night, it might have come then, but we might not have had any storms. It looks like we’re going to get them about the time I have to pick up my granddaughter from daycare instead today.

I was working on more edits yesterday, and I finally found the buffalo plaid ribbon for my grandson’s bear. I also found the chicken wire fences from Hobby Lobby that I had gotten a couple of years back. I love them because they’re easy to move around and they stay put. They keep plants standing upright, or the dogs from peeing on them. That’s why having female dogs is a boon. lol I want to keep them from reaching my chives that are in the ground. The rest are in planters.

I ordered a raised bed planter, though I’ll probably use pavers to raise it up a bit more, to hopefully use for all my herb plants. Maybe even a tomato plant or two. I just hope it’s easy enough to build! It’s long and narrow so I can put it against the fence and hopefully that will be a deterrent for the dogs getting close to the fence and other dogs, but also a neat way to have a garden that’s easier to maintain. Hopefully.

Well, it’s time for me to get to work on writing. Or editing. I still need to finish one more bear. I’ll try to get it done tonight. I ordered some more fun bear fabrics to play with too.

Have a lovely day!! I’m excited about getting mine started!
