It’s All About Character and Setting

I took this picture of John Wilson, who plays with a Celtic band and has a paranormal investigation service, was a guest, along with his wife, who sat at my dinner table at the Readers and Ritas this past weekend. Now, in the  original picture, he was standing by a bunch of raffle baskets. How boring is that?

Readers and Ritas conference John Wilson 002 copy (470x800)

And Dianna Love and Morgan Fox, both authors, needed their own lovely Christmas setting, I thought. Before this, it was the ball room set up for dinner.

On two big book deadlines so enough playing around, but wait, then there’s Kimmi Wakefield and me in a boring hotel hallway.

Photo: Okay, Kimmi Wakefield, did we have fun or what??? We just needed the knight in shining armor.

And my table decorated for dinner that Rana D. Adams took:

Photo: Thanks, Rana D. Adams, for the lovely table photo. See who came to dinner??? Looking for the rest of the pack, and that was us!

So some quick photoshop fun. Not the best, but really have to get back to book deadlines, but I wanted to “improve” the settings… and so there you have it!

Ever take a great fun picture and hate the background???

A Couple of Announcements!~

I’m trying to finish up Jaguar Hunt edits to turn in pronto. Here’s another look at that hunky David with the cutest smirk that totally defines him!

Yum, right? Okay, so have to get that done pronto. And then I’m behind with working on A Highland Wolf Christmas, actually only have 4,300 words to go, but I still have a lot of finishing up to do. It’s due in soon, and with the holidays, that makes it like really soon.

But I wanted to show off a lovely review for The Highlander, which continues to make the bestseller list at Amazon:

New discovery for me! 5 stars
OMG I loved this beautiful love story, written by Terry Spear, titled The HIGHLANDER of her Highlanders series. It’s the first book that I read from her and it won’t be the last one. I think that I am now addicted to this author’s books! I loved this one because I found refreshing that her heroine Anora, is a shepherdess, a feisty and intelligent woman. She is a lady in control until she meets a wounded and half-naked man in her bed. The hero Niall is a rugged and handsome highlander with a kind heart who will try to discover her true identity and her secrets. It’s a Scottish adventure filled with tenderness, passion and action. Ms. Spear nicely blended her characters into this captivating story that is filled with elements a reader needs to find it interested until the end. Ms. Spear is a talented storyteller; I found it very well written and a delight to read. I highly recommend The HIGHLANDER especially if you love Scottish romances. Looking forward to read Gunnof’s story!

by Nicole LaverdureThanks so much to Nicole! And Exchanging Grooms, which is a fun romantic comedy about weddings and no weddings and weddings…is now in audio book form!

A fan sent this and I had to share! I served along with my sister and mother, but tons of the men in my family also. Thought this was cute and wanted to share it for Veteran’s Day!

I also had a total ball at Readers and Ritas in Allen, Texas, outside of Dallas, this past weekend and even found my way!!! Had so much fun meeting readers, bloggers, authors and the Fresh Fiction staff that puts this on. I already signed up for November! So I’ve really got to get back to Jaguar Hunt edits and hope you have the greatest Monday!Did you read Exchanging Grooms and have fun with it? Are you ready for David in Jaguar Hunt? If  you’ve read The Highlander, does Gunnolf need a puppy of his own? LOL

Dream

Dream (800x788)

Ever play Scrabble? Point-wise the word “Dream”, is not too bad. But the idea is priceless. This is a house for sale in Old Town Spring, nearly ready for business. It’s bright, colorful, a lovely design, unique, the doors are impressive, the glass cover over the upstairs door interesting, but… did you notice the tree growing inside the house? You can see it in the lower right window next to the ladder.

This looks like a fun house that dreams are made of.  Don’t you think?

Quiet Cougars

2 cougars grooming (800x592)At my zoo, the cougars are really active. But these two were lazing around, grooming themselves. They have a lovely exhibit, but from the original picture before I cut it down to focus on the cougars, it was really hard to see them.

In fact some others looking at the rocks thought they weren’t there. 2 cougars (800x554)

Can you imagine coming across them in some canyon somewhere? Jaguars are not known to attack humans, but when it comes to tigers, lions and cougars, all bets are off.

The Fighting Leopards

Doesn’t that sound like a sports team?

It started out with the black leopard walking in front of the golden leopard.
leopards fighting (800x535)

Then the next thing I knew, the black leopard got into the golden leopard’s space and you can see her/him growling at the other, mouth wide before he/she took a bite.

leopards fighting3 (800x564)And then there was all kinds of tousling, growling, angry noises….and the golden leopard was definitely the victorious one, the other the beta in the relationship.

leopards fighting 2 (800x548)

Here you can see the black cat’s back feet are pressed against the golden leopard’s chest, keeping that one off, while the golden cat’s mouth is wide open, teeth on full display. 🙂

leopards fighting 5 (800x552)

So what do you think? Fighting? Or just playing? Or courtship rituals in a leopard’s way?

Pumpkins for the Clouded Leopard

clouded leopard watching (800x608)

I’ve never seen a clouded leopard in person before. So this was fun for me. But also, the two they had at the Houston Zoo, both had their own pumpkins. The other cat hid his before I could get a picture of him, pumpkin in mouth, leaping to an upper platform.

2 clouded leopards (800x341)

They’re kind of strange looking, compared to a regular leopard, but interesting too.  Tomorrow, I’ll share about the two leopards in the next exhibit, only they were fighting. 🙂

Happy Monday! Home from Houston!

3 giraffes (800x767)The Houston Zoo was a lot of fun, and the giraffes were posing perfectly for their pictures. All sizes. Aren’t they cute? I have a conference coming up, so home from one trip to pack for another, but in the meantime, wanted to pop in and share a couple of photos I took while in Houston. 🙂
