Who Said it Was Break Time?

Last night when I was at Max’s dog obedience training, the new instructor said to give our dogs a break every time they were through with a phase of training. So one of the ladies took her dog for a bathroom break. But the instructor didn’t mean that kind of a break. He meant to teach the dog that a break meant the dog was done with that phase of training. Now there was a pause between the other dogs finishing theirs and then doing the next training, and that was their “break.”

I told her when she returned with her German shepherd that he didn’t really mean she got to take a break. We laughed.

Max’s nose is to the ground the whole time. So during our breaks–I started to hold him and he loves the cuddle time. And it makes it a real break for him. He watches the other dogs and their owners in their work instead of concentrating on what’s on the ground. Food, dirt, cigarette butts, tons of other trash. And lots and lots and lots of smells. Which means constantly discouraging him, and making him stay by my side, which wears both of us out.

He did really great. Sat, placed, walked, sat, walked, placed, sat. He was very good about it while moving from cot to cot. But when we had to do down, ugh. I really have to work on that. Max doesn’t like lying down unless he’s going to sleep. He’s a sitter. He does great at sitting. I had to entice him with a treat to go down, though I wouldn’t give it to him because he wouldn’t do it on his own. When he did with one command, I gave him the treat. But it’s definitely something I need to work on.

Then there’s me, and a break. I have the proof book for Phantom Fae to read all the way through today. So I’m starting on that in a couple of minutes. But I do better with coming up with a new story if I have a cover. So here’s the new book, when I have time to write it.

I don’t know when I’ll get to it, but last night, just by being able to have a cover, I was able to start coming up with an idea: Not only do the dragon fae have an innate need to hoard gold. So do the Golden Fae. What happens when the two tangle?

Golden Fae

I was also thinking about the next vampire book in the Blood Moon series.

BiteOfTheVampire_TerrySpear_1400x2100

No wonder why I’m not getting enough sleep at night. I can’t shut down the part of my mind that is working on story ideas. So in Kiss of the Vampire, I have the Welsh princes fleeing back to Wales after the Dallas League of Vampires wants their heads. Well, they’re in trouble in Wales too, but maybe it’s been enough decades for no one to know or care of the problems they created there.

Nah. Vampires live long lives. Some hold long grudges. This is Stasio’s story. He is the historian of the bunch, loving all things historical, and everyone gets on him about living in the past. Their past. Humans don’t know the vampires exist. And the vampires keep a low profile. Most of them do. But that’s what gets these princes into so much trouble. If they see humans in trouble, they can’t help but want to aid the good, and defeat the bad when they are supposed to let the humans deal with their own issues on their own.

Now they have a witch among them, strictly American, yet they had to take her with them because of the problems they created on a spring break cruise.

They have no idea how this is all going to play out when they run into something they’d never heard of before, never knew about–a huntress who is determined to eliminate their kind.

Kiss of the Vampire

(Blood Moon Series, Book 1)

Category: Fiction » Young adult or teen » Romance » Fantasy

The motto of the vampires is that humans have to deal with problems on their own. But when Levka and his friends risk all to save human girls, he is injured and so the adventure begins. A cruise. A human girl who is terrified of water. And a vampire who has targeted her for his mate. But she has some secrets of her own.

Forced to take a cruise ship to babysit her foster sister, Caitlin has to face her own demons. But add to that her foster sister’s and her friend’s antics and Caitlin’s inability to use her witch’s magic over water and she has little hope to enjoy this trip. Until she meets a wheelchair-bound teen and wants to make friends with him in the worst way.

Levka and his friends make a hasty retreat from Dallas before the vampire elders stake them for getting involved in human affairs–again. But when he meets Caitlin on the cruise ship, hating that he’s so weak after being injured so severely that he has to use a wheelchair, he finds their troubles have just begun.

Anora, the shepherdess, finds a half-naked man in her bed, so what’s a woman living alone in a cottage in the Lowlands of Scotland supposed to do? Prod him with her pitchfork to chase him off! Only the man is not just a traveler seeking her bed for a rest—but a wounded Highlander, who fights back, swinging his sword!

Niall MacNeill is searching for a Frenchwoman of nobility to escort to his cousin’s castle for safekeeping, when he and his friend, Gunnolf, are attacked by another Highland clan, seeking the same woman. The other Highlanders wish to sell her to the highest bidder—English or French—it does not matter.

Niall takes refuge in a sheepherder’s cottage to heal up from his wounds and discovers the shepherdess taking care of him may very well be the woman he seeks. He has no intention of doing anything but what his cousin requests of him—ensure her safety on their way to Craigly Castle—but when the lass so bravely wields her pitchfork at him, he is thinking of other, more interesting possibilities.

Yes, I did it! I finished the synopses for all three books and marketing materials for them and turned them in after brainstorming all day on the one with two of my readers. I made up the last bear that was a last minute order. I finished She-Wolf Leader of the pack and sent it to my first beta reader. And I’m done!!! Except that now I have to ship all those bears today.

Last night I watched the movie about the Chernobyl wolves. Unbelievable how high the radiation levels are there, yet the animals have returned to the territory, are healthy and normal for the most part, though their bones are highly radiated. Bison have returned, and eagles, beavers have returned and the canals that at one time irrigated crops are back to marshlands. It was a horrific situation for everything there and the soil is still contaminated. But the fruit trees produce fruit for the bears and other animals that have returned. And even a nearly extinct species of wild horses have been reintroduced, though poachers are still killing them. Why is that? For what purpose?

The trees that were turned rust by the explosion are green and the vegetation is reclaiming the area.

As bad as the man-made disaster was, it has provided a safe habitat–from man–for hundreds of species of animals.

Okay, I’m off to ship bears and run a million other errands, which fall behind when I’m working on deadline stuff.

I have SOOOOO many projects left to do, it makes me wonder what I will work on next! The Viking’s Highland Lass, the next fae book, the next cougar book, the list goes on.

And yet, I have another deadline coming up–and two weeks of being unable to write. So I will have to start on that book soon.

Have a super great Monday!

I had one evening off, that’s enough time to goof off, don’t you think?

When Finishing One Goal is Impossible…

Switch to another. Really. Do it. Don’t say, okay, do a little happy dance, because you can’t accomplish the one goal in just that instant, or pull out your hair… jump on another goal you need to accomplish! You’ll feel better. Really. You’ll get something else done.

Can you tell I’m a workaholic? Well, and have so many deadlines. If I didn’t, I’d goof off more. Maybe.

Late yesterday afternoon I was near the end of proofing Phantom Fae. I was soooooooo close to the end. I wanted to finish it and send it off to the narrator so she could update it. I wanted to be able to relisten to the changes and approve it, pay her, and have another project hanging over my head–finished, done, completed. Because I have a stack of other projects I HAVE to get done. Soon. On deadline.

So what does it do? Storms. Thunder. Lightning. Pouring rain. The works. My computer kept flickering on and off, but I was so desperate to finish. I finally finished, went to send her the final changes, no Internet.

Okay, so that’s fine. I have 8 bears stacked up waiting for me to work on them. Though I was multi-tasking when I was listening to the audiobooks, jointing, then stuffing bears at the same time.

But I still had a ton of work to do on them. Still do. But they’re getting closer to being done. This morning, still trying to get the one book finished up to approve. The narrator hasn’t pressed a button to allow me to approve it yet. The other is DONE. And this morning, I’m working on marketing materials for one of the books I need to write. Still clueless about the other, but I’m making some headway on this one. 🙂 But wait, what color was Everett’s eyes and hair? And will the missing cub be a female or male? Always the questions.

Have a terrific TGIF!!!

I’m off to have some more fun with goals. What about you?

Oh, and news!!!! For the first time ever, two of my wolf books are going into audio! Can’t wait!!!

New Cover Reveals!!!

Kissing the Highlander final

First, I love this cover by Vonda Sinclair! And His Wild Highland Lass is the novella I’m working on for it. The anthology is a set of 5 prequels to stories we already have out.

I had a breakthrough on my story this afternoon. Not breakdown. But breakthrough. 🙂

And so I’m hoping to finish writing it in the next couple of days. Or by the weekend. It’s at 18,000, shooting for 23,000.

This anthology will be out in Feb.

Then, I’m working with a couple of other talented authors and this is the beautiful cover that was created by Heather Newbury Almendarez.

These are Greek God contemporary comedy romances. It should be out about July 9.

gods-gone-wild-plain-title

Can you say beautiful? I mean about the cover!!!

And a couple of reviews. Loved the reviews and had to share!!!

This one was for The Highlander audiobook!

Refreshing and fun to read!

Heavy Fog and Freezing Rain

And 75 degrees coming on Friday!

But in the meantime, I loved the rain and heavy fog while I finished edits on A Highland Wolf Christmas. Now I’m working on proofing The Highlander audiobook! So once I’m done with that, it’s time to get to work on one of the other stories.

Here is what I took some pictures of while the weather was so deliciously wet. Thunder sounded several times and I was worried I’d lose my electricity while I was uploading The World of Fae Book Set to another three book selling sites. But I made it!

The pear blossoms are just starting to bloom. Note the raindrops on the petals?

pear blossoms (640x577)And then water droplets on the rose leafs just coming out…

pear tree blossoms, dew on roses 011 (640x547)

And then we have thistle, that reminds me of Scotland. I was fascinated with all the water droplets on it. Millions! This was because of the heavy mist we had that surrounded us all day.

Back to proofing The Highlander! 🙂

A Couple of Announcements!~

I’m trying to finish up Jaguar Hunt edits to turn in pronto. Here’s another look at that hunky David with the cutest smirk that totally defines him!

Yum, right? Okay, so have to get that done pronto. And then I’m behind with working on A Highland Wolf Christmas, actually only have 4,300 words to go, but I still have a lot of finishing up to do. It’s due in soon, and with the holidays, that makes it like really soon.

But I wanted to show off a lovely review for The Highlander, which continues to make the bestseller list at Amazon:

New discovery for me! 5 stars
OMG I loved this beautiful love story, written by Terry Spear, titled The HIGHLANDER of her Highlanders series. It’s the first book that I read from her and it won’t be the last one. I think that I am now addicted to this author’s books! I loved this one because I found refreshing that her heroine Anora, is a shepherdess, a feisty and intelligent woman. She is a lady in control until she meets a wounded and half-naked man in her bed. The hero Niall is a rugged and handsome highlander with a kind heart who will try to discover her true identity and her secrets. It’s a Scottish adventure filled with tenderness, passion and action. Ms. Spear nicely blended her characters into this captivating story that is filled with elements a reader needs to find it interested until the end. Ms. Spear is a talented storyteller; I found it very well written and a delight to read. I highly recommend The HIGHLANDER especially if you love Scottish romances. Looking forward to read Gunnof’s story!

by Nicole LaverdureThanks so much to Nicole! And Exchanging Grooms, which is a fun romantic comedy about weddings and no weddings and weddings…is now in audio book form!

A fan sent this and I had to share! I served along with my sister and mother, but tons of the men in my family also. Thought this was cute and wanted to share it for Veteran’s Day!

I also had a total ball at Readers and Ritas in Allen, Texas, outside of Dallas, this past weekend and even found my way!!! Had so much fun meeting readers, bloggers, authors and the Fresh Fiction staff that puts this on. I already signed up for November! So I’ve really got to get back to Jaguar Hunt edits and hope you have the greatest Monday!Did you read Exchanging Grooms and have fun with it? Are you ready for David in Jaguar Hunt? If  you’ve read The Highlander, does Gunnolf need a puppy of his own? LOL

Rain, Rain, Come Again…

storms (800x533)

I love the smell of rain as it “oxygenates” the air. It greens up the poor plants that have been suffering in the heat. It revives them. And it revives me. The storms, the thunder, the lightning… the rain.

I wanted to curl up and write on one of my vampire books, but my taskmaster said no. I had to stick to A Highland Wolf Christmas. But there it’s snowing in the Highlands. I wanted to write about dark and stormy weather and… vampires.

So the rain is gone now…

And I’ve just offered The Highlander, the medieval Highland romance on Kobo for preorders. The book will come out on Oct 21. http://store.kobobooks.com/en-US/ebook/the-highlander-5

Highlander11 (539x800)

So next time it rains, I’m going to pull out that vampire mss and get to work. 🙂

Have a super great Monday!

Book Marks for the Highland Series

I have only the one elf book out at this time, started the second one, and found covers I loved for 3 more. 🙂 So I made up a book mark, to remind myself I need to write them.

On the Highland ones, I do have all the books either available for sale, or as in the last one The Highlander, I’ll be publishing it Oct 21. Preorders at B&N, Kobo, and Smashwords available before that.

I’m still rereading it now, so off to work!!!

Have a super lovely, Sunday!!

Love it When I’m on a Roll!

In writer talk, that means the story just keeps going and I can’t hardly keep up with the characters! I love it when that happens. I wrote 7500 words yesterday! Wish I could do that every day!

But what I’m going to talk about is the paranormal. First, besides writing, I watered a little. Things are burning up. 104 degree temps, no rain, hot, hot, hot, with more to come through September.

So I hosed the stressed plants a little. No rain in the forecast for the next 10 days, which is the same as the last 10 days and will be the same for the 10 days after this.

I decided I needed to take a break from writing, the computer, sitting, and wanted to watch a couple of episodes of Supernaturals.

The AC comes on, I’m getting cold. And I hear this roaring sound. I glance at the window, blinds are all closed, but I can see the shrubs really blowing hard. But it can’t be the wind that’s making such a racket, unless we’ve got a tornado. I walk to another window, peek through the blinds, and it is POURING rain. I don’t do rain dances to make it rain. But I do rain dances when it rains and it’s not supposed to for the next 100 years.

I must water more often.

Have a great Sunday!

I’m off to write some more!

Terry

Coming Up with Story Ideas

Who would have thought being a gate guardian could be so much trouble?
The Trouble with Demons
Witches and warlocks hide their true identities from the rest of the human population, while three teens with demon heritage living with human families, become unlikely companions in a race against time to deal with a demon threat to humankind in their own quirky way.Alana Fainot, a witch and half Kubiteron demon, witnesses a Matusa murder his summoner, and she knows he’ll target her next. Raised by her mother, she has no idea who her demon father is. But when she’s pulled to a demon portal, she meets Hunter Ross, half Matusa, half human, who returns demons to their world, but who’s been poisoned by a Matusa and is more dead than alive. His human mother gave him up for adoption, and he doesn’t know who either of his birth parents are. His friend Jared Kensington, full blooded Elantus demon, less powerful than the Kubiteron, is a whiz at electronics and helps Hunter track demons in the city, but was abandoned by his parents on Earth world for reasons unknown. He’s determined to find help to save Hunter. Alana knows aiding any Matusa is a mistake, but when she learns Hunter is half human, she makes a deal—he protects her against the Matusa who will come for her, and she helps find his dad in the demon world to save Hunter’s life.Often at odds, the three teens work together to stop the plans of a group of Matusa to take over the human race before it’s too late.

 Demon Trouble Too

Alana Fainot is a demon gate guardian, stuck in her last boring year of school. But not for long. Hunter and the rest of the gang show up when her astral form can’t return to her physical form, and she’s at the police station trying to talk her way out of having seen the murderer of a summoner. Hunter always knew Alana was trouble, but his kind of trouble, and he’s not leaving Alana alone again.Celeste Sweetwater, a new kind of demon, joins Hunter and Alana and the rest of the demon guardians in a fight to find a new kind of portal device that can summon several demons at once. But not only that, another Matusa has been unleashed on the unsuspecting human world and the demon guardians must stop him before he wreaks much more havoc. But this time, the police are involved, paranormal investigators pounce on the area, and the whole mess seems to be spiraling out of the demon guardians’ control.

Do you ever wonder how I come up with ideas? Well, in a million different ways. Sometimes from a news report. Sometimes seeing a show or movie and it gets me to thinking. Sometimes reading an adult romance and I begin thinking about it in a young adult way. Or vice versa. I read a YA and I think, wow, wouldn’t this be fun as a sexy adult romance?

In the case of the demon teen series, I had read a cool book, judging for a contest some years back where the woman was being stalked by someone and I think she was part demon. Or he was. Can’t remember. So I thought how cool would it be if I had teens who were partly demons, part humans, just trying to be normal human teens?  Well, one of the boys is full demon, but one of the more good-natured ones. And one of the girls is also a witch. So all kinds of fun.

The Vampire…In My Dreams came from reading just the opening of a book I looked at on Amazon, and it was about two women who were sneaking into a mobile home to learn if the guy sleeping in the bed was a vampire. So in my story, I have where the two girls are chasing the vampire in the night. Only they really don’t exist. Only witches and warlocks do. And they are witches.

Then in Kiss of the Vampire…my mother said I needed to write about vampires going on a cruise and eating all the people. Yes, Mom. I kept telling her I didn’t write horror stories. Romance, Mom. I write happily ever afters. 🙂

And the Fae…well, I read an adult fae book and thought wouldn’t it be cool to write a teen version?

Of course, my stories aren’t anything like the other books. It’s just a kernel of an idea that forms and the whole story/world is something totally new.  That has to do with voice and the author’s own reading habits, life experiences, etc.

So when you sit down to read a book, do you ever wonder where the author came up with the idea???

Have a super Saturday!!! Off to work some more on The Highlander and A Highland Wolf Christmas!
