Scotland the Beautiful!

While working with Vexing the Highlander, I needed some Scottish inspiration. I could be inspired to write all day long there! The picture of the view is from Glengarry Castle, the new one. The bottom one is of the ruins.

Instead, I’m at home getting totally distracted by a swarm of woodpeckers! And that’s why I have been seeing a red-bellied woodpecker feeding CONSTANTLY at the feeders. There are 3 of them!

Momma and 2 juveniles, I think. Maybe daddy? Not sure. And then a redheaded woodpecker showed up! And so, besides working on Vexing’s cover until midnight, and the story until 1 am, I am late on everything else. The woodpeckers made me it.

The juvenile red-bellied woodpeckers at the bottom were playing around the tree.

And there you have it! Nope, the dog didn’t eat my homework. The woodpeckers did!

Did I Invite You?

I was taking a picture of a Monarch butterfly, never see them out here, and he was landing all over the flowers, perfect, beautiful shot, and some guy stuck his hands right in my photo! Can you imagine the nerve of the guy? LOL

Okay, so I figured I could crop his hands out, but then I thought, no, it made the picture even more interesting! Look at how close he could get and the butterfly just ignored him. And he had well manicured hands–so it was almost as though it was done on purpose. Oh, yeah, it was. Okay, changing story here. I planned it that way.

So then I was taking other shots without the hands, but people were still in the way! Yet still, I found it fascinating. A couple sitting on a bench while the butterfly flew above the flowers made for a much more interesting picture, I thought, then just a picture of the butterfly and flowers. Which I managed to shoot after I moved around so I wouldn’t create a people-clogged butterfly photo. But they were a cute couple and it just added to the magical air of the butterfly and flowers and love.

Sometimes, I think other distractions are distractions, until I realize they add to the scenario. It happens with writing too. In a novella, well, in any form of story, I want the characters introduced to be important in some way. So while I’m coming up with my story (total pantser, so I just keep writing, not plotting it out), I realize some important characters need to be added. But wait, they already were. I just had them in various places, just characterless characters, and now they’re important. So even in writing, I’ll think someone shouldn’t have been invited, but now he or she is crucial to the story.

And with that bit of wisdom, I’m off to write on Vexing. I managed to get over 21,000 yesterday, shooting for 20,000. So need 25,000 to finish it. Or more, depending on the story. So nearly there!

Do You Dream?

I mean, really dream. Not about what you’d like to become when you grow up, but when you close your eyes kind of dream?

Have you ever wondered if it was because of something you ate? Something you shouldn’t eat? Something you should eat lots more of?

Have you wondered why people you haven’t seen for years suddenly pop into your dream, whether you want them there or not?

Have you pondered why you have such a bizarre dream–was it from something you watched on TV, something you saw in the news, something you’ve been trying to sort out? Something you’ve dealt with and can’t let go of?

Maybe all of the above? And then here’s this bizarre compilation of all those bizarre things in your life and there you have it. A dream.

Okay, I was playing around with photos, when I wasn’t writing. I do need to take a break from time to time. So I wanted a pretty picture of San Diego Bay, and yes, I did manage to get a clearer shot of it later, but could I do something with this horribly awful shot? So I played around with overlays and adjustments. I thought it turned out not half bad.

Then I took a photo of the Pacific Ocean from high above a cliff, which was the same vicinity I was in when I took the picture of San Diego Bay, and played around with some overlays on that one. From pretty to enchanting, don’t you think?

Okay, I was really, really, really good yesterday and wrote 4,500 words. My goal was 2500 and 3,000 today. Does that mean I only have to write 1,000 today? No way! Today, I still write at least 2,000. BUT, if I could write 3,000, I would reach a nice round 20,000. We’ll see. It all depends if I can come up with scenes…

I saw a hummingbird!!! She was just flying in one spot in the center of my yard. I have hummingbird firecracker plants! Yes! You are supposed to love them! You are supposed to be drawn to them. *sigh*. Maybe next year. I couldn’t get a picture of her though. My windows were fogged up from the humidity in the air and she didn’t hold still long enough to for me to grab my camera, focus, and shoot.

Kaleidoscope Butterfly Bush and Fighting Blue Jay and Woodpecker

Kaleidoscope Butterfly Bush–I love these bushes. All the other butterfly bushes sit there, no blooms, the one variety constantly plagued with aphids. But this variety has been a stellar performer. No butterflies, but it doesn’t matter to me. It’s just beautiful. I think this is the first time I can see a real kaleidoscope of colors. The other blooms on the other plants were all purple.

And a blue jay and a red-bellied woodpecker fighting over the suet. Funny thing is after they left, no one was feeding off it. What? The only time it holds any interest is when someone else wants it? Sounds like the puppies to me. lol

Whoops, missed the garbage. When did Wednesday turn into Thursday? Ever have that happen?

The Stories are Swarming!!!

I’m excited because I’ll be halfway done on Vexing the Highlander today. Once it’s done, I’ll begin work on White Wolf Christmas, then Double Cougar Trouble, and then Loving the White Bear.

BUT…I’ve had several inquiries as to if I will put Covert Cougar Christmas in print. It’s a novella, so I hadn’t planned on it. UNLESS, I write two more stories so that it’s around 75,000-90,000 words. Then I will. Soooo, I was thinking, and yes, the stories are piling up in my head–but in Covert Cougar Christmas, Chet needs a story. He was on his way back to see his mother for Christmas. What if he runs into a woman stranded in a snowstorm…and she’s total trouble. Then what if I wrote another story that has to do with Cougar Christmas. And title the anthology as such? Three Christmas stories. Three at the same Christmas, all interconnected in some way?

See? The stories are swarming!!!

Okay, then I have this other problem. I admit it. I am a cover junkie. I make my own, or I find one I love. I’ve been looking for a really great one to replace the one I have for Forbidden Love. But instead, I keep running into others that I fall in love with.

So though I have several already made covers for Highland stories, this one was too beautiful not to use. I’ll reveal it closer to when I write it next year.

And then, I need to pitch three more stories to my publisher, and I keep thinking about those. Another Billionaire story for sure. Everyone is asking for Rafe’s brother’s story. And then Vaughn, in SEAL Wolf Undercover has a brother who is a SEAL. And then….not sure. Howard of the jaguar United Shifter Forces might need to have his story. Hmmm. Okay, well I need one of them to be a Christmas story, so maybe Billionaire, since I haven’t done one for them yet. See how the stories keep stumbling over one another? But they’re making my white wolves into a series, so I need one of those……

And I have soooooo many I need to write that I’ve partially written. Some with covers, some, ohmigosh, I need to go searching for more covers for. 🙂 And then I get lost in the search and find something else. And that means another story.

*sigh*

Sometimes, I block out the stories and just take pictures, or play in my gardens.

Okay, I’m off to write. MUST make halfway point on Vexing today. 🙂

Do you ever find you have a ton of things to do, but the need to do all of them just overwhelms you? Make goals and get them done. 🙂 At least that is how it works for me. Two-thousand words a day and more if the scenes are coming. It’s the only way I can write as much as I do. And still do other fun things. Like take pictures and garden. 🙂

Over Half a Million in Sales!

Now if I’d had even a $1 for each of those books, how wonderful that would be!!! Still, it’s really great knowing that I have sold that many books in the years I’ve been selling. Thanks to my readers for following me all these years and making it happen!!

I was into plant rescue mode yesterday when I went to get suet for the birds. At Ace Hardware, they had Vermillion Cuphea, Firecracker for Hummingbirds. I also picked up Society Garlic, edible to add to foods, and Dakota Gold Helen. Now all these were 70% off, and then with a $5 rewards card, it ended up costing me $4.00 instead of $43. So $1.00 a plant.

This is the healthy one I planted at the beginning of the season.

This is the variety they had in San Diego. Huge, and the hummingbirds were all over it.

And these are the Society Garlic and the other flowering plant. Just need to plant them, but watering them for now. I think they’re already looking better. I had NOT planned to buy anything more. At all. It was mean to show that 70% sign off when here I only intended to buy suet for the birds. 🙂 But I love rescuing plants when I can.

Okay, off to write the book. Working on getting to 9,000 today. 🙂

Monarch Butterfly and Skimmer Dragonfly!

So this is a whitetailed skimmer male dragonfly and they eat mosquitoes! I managed to get close while carrying my tripod, which I thought was an amazing bit of good luck.

And here is a monarch butterfly, and yes, in their caterpillar form, they eat plants. But then they turn into a beautiful butterfly and they dine on nectar. They are on the decline from pesticides, so it was nice to see the huge shrubs providing a haven for the butterflies at the Botanical Gardens in San Diego.

Here is the chrysalis or cocoon before the caterpillar hatched.

20% done on Vexing the Highlander! But this morning I need to ship books and get suet for the birds. 🙂

Then it’s back to writing. We were supposed to have 80% chance of rain. I think it went away. 🙁

Ready to Silence a Phone! Forever!!! Enchanting the Highlander!

Ugh! My phone alarm went off from last Sunday. I thought someone was calling me at 3:45 in the morning. It was in the other room. I ignored it. It wouldn’t go away. I ignored it some more.

It started taunting me again. Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!

I’m awake, all right! When I don’t want to be awake.

Okay, so call me technically challenged, but I didn’t know how to shut it off or shut it up. I had the brilliant idea of muting it. Yes! That did it. I went back to bed. And then it played it’s jingly sweet tune again. Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!

I grind my teeth, can’t believe it could play when the phone is muted, unplug the phone, consider shutting it down, but I’ve got to figure out how to turn off the alarm. Did I mention I’m technically challenged? Not about everything, but just some things. And when I’m tired, that adds to the challenge. So I’m looking through help, and all the other things that say they will tell me how to do something. NOTHING says anything about an ALARM clock. Okay, so then I scroll through the other stuff, and lo and behold, there’s a clock. So I click on it, and yes! I can turn the “cute” little thing off.

I had set the alarm, or my friend had, for 3:45 AM so I could make my flight back home the previous Sunday.

I had a foot cramp 2 hours earlier, which had me heading for the calcium tablets in the kitchen also. So it was a wild night.

When I’d rather have been like this, sacked out, sleeping for my heavy duty day of writing. And grocery shopping.

Okay, so SEAL Wolf Undercover is done, just need to reread the last 3 chapters to make sure I didn’t add any mistakes as I was writing! And I’m working on Vexing the Highlander, which will be my novella contribution to the anthology, Enchanting the Highlander. We’ll be posting the cover soon. I’m working on my cover also for now. From the Mundane to the Whimsical

When I saw this Jeep in the art shop, I thought it was really neat. Just think of the billionaire wolf riding around in it on a beach. Or a cougar teen. But make it a little more whimsical and it would be perfect for the fae.

Okay, you see I’ve been working on writing for too long!!! Five thousand words to go on SEAL. I’ve rewritten 9,000 words since I got home, had to do rewrites on Between a Wolf and a Hard Place too, so you see…it’s not all fun in games!

Except I’m loving SEAL as I’m finishing it up. I always loved the main characters, but I just had to work on reducing the plot tangents. So after discarding 45,000 words–that was hard to do!–I’m nearly at the end. Again. 🙂 Only this time it really is the end.
