Woodpeckers Courting

It’s kind of hard to see, but the male has his head turned to the left, and the female down below has her head turned to the right. She’s “ignoring” him, but really, she wouldn’t be that close to him if she wasn’t interested. They had been racing up and down the tree before.

So cute.

Well, we might have 3″ of ice this weekend. It’s not bad today. We do have rain for today but it’s going to be around 60 degrees. I’m glad because I have blood work to do and didn’t want to have to cancel on that.

I did manage to get 1600 words done on Bear in Pursuit yesterday. Not sure what I’ll do on it today. When I have appts, I usually get behind.

Usually they don’t stand their ground, but these two did over the seeds in the feeder.

More appointments today, then free for 3 days. Yay!

Downy Woodpecker

Love the little downy woodpeckers!

I was photographing birds yesterday and managed about 2500 words on Emerald Isle of Mists. I’m at the stage where I keep thinking on the story no matter what I’m supposed to be doing–like sleeping! I’ve been watching the series: The Wheel of Time, which is really good.

I see the birds are back, all kinds of varieties: cardinals, finches, sparrows, house wrens, chickadees, and more. And I’d like to photograph them, but I’m working on edits on Emerald first, and then I need to get at least 2500 words today, shooting to reach 45K today.

I Got Caught

woodpecker-900-019woodpecker-looking-at-me-900-031I have to capture the photos of the birds from inside, though I will try this spring to sit outside and take pictures of them, if they’ll get used to me. Some do.

Even the smaller woodpeckers will. Not this one. He’s super cautious.

Running late on doing anything. Some days just seem to be that way. Don’t they?

Kaleidoscope Butterfly Bush and Fighting Blue Jay and Woodpecker

Kaleidoscope Butterfly Bush–I love these bushes. All the other butterfly bushes sit there, no blooms, the one variety constantly plagued with aphids. But this variety has been a stellar performer. No butterflies, but it doesn’t matter to me. It’s just beautiful. I think this is the first time I can see a real kaleidoscope of colors. The other blooms on the other plants were all purple.

Funny thing is after they left, no one was feeding off it. What? The only time it holds any interest is when someone else wants it? Sounds like the puppies to me. lol

Whoops, missed the garbage. When did Wednesday turn into Thursday? Ever have that happen?

A Woodpecker Hanging Down Under

downy woodpecker 010 (640x615)woodpecker 060 (640x315)She is working really hard on this hole. Is she a hairy woodpecker or a downy? She was small and way up above in the tree. I wasn’t sure I could get the picture all right because the sun was shining so brightly overhead. Is she making a nest for babies? Seems to me they would all fall out. Or is she just having a meal?
