Crane at Wolf Canyon

This is one of the pictures I took. The crane was right next to the car and I rested the camera on the car’s “windowsill” so I could take the picture without putting any weight on my broken wrist.

Such a fun place to visit in Omaha. We walked around 4 miles there.

I managed to download the about 1,000 pictures we took at the wildlife park, botanical gardens and zoo, only wrote 600 words yesterday, sigh, but I have been revising heavily, so I was editing more. My granddaughter was here and then I was trying to comb out the dogs. They are a matted mess. I’ve never brought them home in such a mess as I did at this kennel. They wanted to shave them off. I said no. I would get them back in shape and then take them to a different groomer to have their faces and feet and back sides trimmed. They are Havanese and need the fur for insulation/protection from sunburn. They’re originally a Cuban breed.

I washed them yesterday and then let them air dry. And last night, started the slow process of combing them out. I can barely use my left hand and that makes it more difficult. I had to do everything one-handed with washing them also. They each weigh 16 lbs. It reminds me of Lady in the Water where the muscleman was only exercising one arm. lol That’s me. I put a “rubber” sleeve over the splint that I purchased from Amazon to protect it from getting wet.

I need to make a list of all the things I need to do–get the novella ready for publication, get groceries!!, sign up for D2D for the novella, order books for my beta readers and dedications for the two cougar books, read a book for a quote, and the list goes on. I woke up last night thinking about it all and then couldn’t sleep. So if I make a list, I won’t have to worry about all this stuff. So many things have deadlines and they’re all for September.

So I’m off to weed first, then grocery shop, then order the books, then work on the story….Or order books first, then…

Don’t have a good day! Have a GREAT day!

Finally Home and…

My yard totally doesn’t look like this. My poor neighbors. The yard guys come to mow tomorrow. They only come once every other week and they only mow and weedeat, so my flowerbeds are weed beds right now. With 107 heat index daily and a broken wrist, I’m up to the challenge. I managed one 40-gallon bag this morning while my granddaughter told me which weeds to pull. lol, but I’ll have to do this all week long.

She missed me so much and I missed her and baby was giving me the biggest smiles.

Had a lovely time in Omaha visiting with my son and DIL, got a lot of writing done, but it’s time to concentrate on it and get it done! I need to download the pictures my son took for me at the zoo and wildlife park!

Don’t have a good day! Have a GREAT day!

Onward and Upward

We saw Free Guy. That was cute. And I turned in my fully proofed Best of Both Wolves and wrote 1,000 words on Christmas Wolf Surprise.

It’s going to be a long, busy day today, so off to work.

Don’t have a good day, have a great day!

Survival in the Forest

But first, the fae and the swans, or maybe she’s more of a mermaid.

Well, we went on a 6 mile hike on a walk in the forest in 95-degree weather, not so smartly leaving the water in the car. My son thought it would be a short jaunt. It wasn’t. And the heat index was 105. We got turned around on the winding trails that traversed high hills and some of the trails were closed when we reached them. We finally had to take a taped-off trail and hope that we could get through that way because hiking back the way we came was not an option.

I’ve had heat exhaustion when I was on a map course at one of the summer camps I attended in AROTC when I was 18, and once you’ve had it, you’re more susceptible. I’d had to be carried out of the hot, muggy forest to a waiting ambulance to join several other cadets who had suffered the same fate.

Some years later, I was paving a brick patio in the Texas heat, not hungry, not drinking enough water. I didn’t feel well, so the next day, I just walked out to the barn to read the electric meter, no problem, walked back into the house and thought the kitchen island counter was tilting over. I grabbed for it and realized I had nearly blacked out. Waves of nausea hit me. My vision blurred. My head pounded and I had a severe headache. Somehow I managed to get some water and hugged the hall wall to reach my bedroom and lie down. I was sick for three days, drinking water, barely eating, feeling horrible. Heat exhaustion/heat stroke are dangerous!

And I was experiencing some of the same thing on our quest to find the center. So we took a chance to go up the stairs on the taped off trail, found two trees had fallen across the path, but people had cut through one and the other was easy to climb through.

We finally made it to the boardwalk and they have seating at various intervals. My son went ahead to get our water. I waited, but was feeling fine and got up from the bench to make it to the next one, rest, go ahead again, but that time my vision started to blur and I returned to the 2nd bench. I desperately needed water. I waited until my vision cleared and made it to the third bench, not wanting my son to have to walk so far back, but I knew he would have had water before he returned. But at that point, the boardwalk split into 3 trails, and I knew I couldn’t take one of them. I would miss him and put myself and him in more peril. I didn’t have my phone. He had his, so I didn’t need mine, right?

I’ve watched tons of survival programs and what are some of the key points to remember: Bring water, food, phone, and let people know where you’re going.

People knew we were out there. We had to pay to visit the forest. His wife knew, but she was at work.

I worried about my son. What if he passed out and couldn’t tell anyone he’d left me behind? What if he didn’t get help soon enough for himself? We’d met people on the trails sporadically and during that last bit of hiking when it had gotten so bad, we hadn’t met anyone.

Anyway, a word to the wise, you never know if a short jaunt could end up being a near emergency case that wouldn’t have been at all, if we just had taken water with us.

Did we have fun? You bet! Saw a beautiful hawk flying through the woods a couple of times. The forest is beautiful. And it was a wonderful hike. A survival adventure. Now I can write about it in my stories from a real life–don’t do this–perspective!

I have 80 pages left to proof on the book, so I’m going to do that, or at least whittle down some more of it, and then we’re having lunch and going to a movie–Free Guy.

Have a great day! I’m sticking to the cool today and drinking tons of water!

Narwhal–Unicorn of the Sea

I was watching a program about the Narwhal and how they use their tooth to break through the ice when they run out of breathing holes.

I reached my goal of 30,000 yesterday. I also worked on some more proofing of Best of Both Wolves. I’m not sure where to go next on Christmas Wolf Surprise. Even with getting some word count over the past few days that I hadn’t scheduled for, I’m going to have to really write 3,000 a day, not 2,000 like initially planned to make it in time by the deadline. But I need to finish proofing the other book too. *sigh*

I’m off to figure out what I’m going to work on first. We may be walking through a forest today. Yay!

Have a super lovely day!

African Elephant

Created this with a watercolor painted elephant, and three texture overlays.

While working on the story, I’ve been watching a lot of wildlife shows and had never seen the ones with the night vision imaging where they discovered several species hunt all night long. They don’t sleep like they thought they did at night. So cougars, jaguars, leopards, lions, are all on the prowl. Even an orangutan! And because of urban sprawl, some wildlife is adapting. Elephants visiting the city at night to eat, leopards going after dogs, tried the piglets, but the big moms and dads were too much to take on, monkeys everywhere, even the beautiful river otters living in harmony with one community.

I managed another 4,000 words yesterday on Christmas Wolf Surprise! I was working on it this morning, but had to take the dog out because she was throwing up. 🙁 27,000 words so far! I hope that I can reach 30K today!

I’m hoping to get another 4,000 today, we’ll see if I don’t dry up with ideas. I also managed to proof 1 more chapter for the other wolf book.

Okay, I got up early, but the day is running away on me. Off to write! Have a beautiful day!

Jaguar in my Crystal Ball

Okay, so yeah, it might be a leopard, maybe a cheetah, but everyone wants me to write the billionaire’s jaguar story. So that will be one of the lineup for my next set of books that I will be writing for publication in 2022.

We didn’t do anything yesterday but work. I managed 4,000 words on Christmas Wolf Surprise, yay!!!!!! I’m up to 23K.

I wish I could do that for today and tomorrow. I’m hoping to at least get to 30K by Sunday. But I also need to proof Best of Both Wolves.

We’re supposed to take a forest walk on Friday, but it is sooooooo hot, not sure. Wouldn’t you know it’s not cooling down until Sunday. But we had a wild storm last night–lightning, thunder, hail! Love storms.

I’m off to write! Have a magical day!!

Are There Wolves on the Wolves Tour?

I always think of Jurassic Park when I go to see the animals and they are nowhere to be seen. lol

We had 105 heat index, still walked 2.5 miles yesterday, up and down hills, up the tall birding tower, and down, saw 2 black bears, the ears of two wolves, owls, bald eagles, cranes, pelicans, swans and ducks. And bison. So I always thought we had buffalo in this country. In all the books I read, they were buffalo. But they’re not. They’re bison. You are never too old to learn new things!

White Bison and Juvenile Side by Side

We were sad that the white bison are gone, in bison heaven. This is a picture of some from a few years back.

Okay, so I’m only up to 19K today on the book. I’ve got to do better today! I had a neat twist for the story I thought of last night at 4:30 a.m. when I couldn’t sleep. So I want to get started on that. I love when I can come up with more story ideas, rather than when I’m struggling to think of what comes next.

Hope you all have a lovely day! I need to get going on mine!!!

Zoo Was a Blast

I love to go to the zoo, perfect weather, so we went there yesterday and was saddened to hear the polar bear had died of cancer. No sun bears. The parrots weren’t there, no jaguars, no foxes, no ocelots. But we had a delightful time in the butterfly exhibit, and the octopus in the aquarium was in rare form. He was moving all over the window and we even saw his eye! Usually he’s mostly hidden up above and you can’t really get a good picture. The sea lions had a better exhibit and they loved coming up to the window and getting close to visitors. It was really cute. A gorilla mother was nursing her young-un, though he didn’t see that young. I figured at that size he would be weaned.

My son has to take all my pictures, so I’m hoping they all turned out. I had to teach him about light settings and all.

With a broken wrist, I just can’t lift weight with my left hand or do much of all with it. But I’m so glad I brought my camera. Even with a phone, I can’t manage a picture, not yet.

We’re going to a bison reserve today, and I’ll try and get some writing done. We watched Cruella, that was fun, and Black Widow is next. I did manage to reach 18K yesterday on Christmas Wolf Surprise.

Have a blast of a day! I can’t wait to see the wolves and bison.

Fun at the Botanical Gardens

green house
Photo by Daniel Frese on Pexels.com

Went to some botanical gardens. I loved seeing the fountains, plants, sculptures and even the little hideaway walk paths. I will share later when I have a chance to download the pictures.

My hand swelled up a lot with all the walking, and I used ice to bring down the swelling a bit. But we had a great day. And we watched The Jungle Cruise, that was cute.

I’m getting some editing done on the book, not as much writing done as I’d like.

Have a great day!!!
