Boardwalk, Destin, FL

It was wild while we were there with thunderstorms, rip currents, no swimming because of rip currents for some of the time that we were there. They had warning flags up about dangerous marine life and during the time we were there, a black bear was swimming in the surf among beachgoers, though not where we were but somewhere on the Destin beaches. I expected sharks, jellyfish, Portuguese Man-of-Wars, but bears? Yes, they have around 4,000 bears in Florida, but body surfing???

If I had written that in a story, my editors would have said–no matter that I write about wolf shifters, mind you–that that wouldn’t be realistic. lol

I’m off to do stuff with my granddaughter.

Reading

The whole family loves to read and that helps the kids to love to read. So for the summer, I’ve been working on science, social studies, spelling words, math, and reading with my granddaughter. Of course 2-year-old brother repeats everything we say and looks at the science pages as we’re talking about them, repeats spelling words, knows most of his colors, and so he’s learning too. Besides daily swims and other stuff. But today, we’re going to the library and then roller skating with her friends.

She has a bingo card where she’s supposed to do a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line of reading, We’re nearly done with the reading for all the blocks and she’ll get some kind of mention on the school board when she starts 1st grade in August, but we’re also working on a reading Girl Scout patch. She has to go to the library to read one book, read about a famous person–she’ll be reading about a shark lady who studies sharks in the ocean, read a recipe and make a meal (have to figure out what we’ll do for that one), draw a picture about a book she’s read, and write a story. And then she’ll have all her reading requirements done for the school one for the whole bingo card. She’s just finishing up reading a book for the Girl Scout badge. But we’ll be reading everyday for the rest of the summer even after she’s finished both the bingo card and her reading badge requirements.

Okay, I’m off to get chores done before she arrives.

I have some good news too though–Alpha Wolf Need Not Apply is going to be reissued. Woohoo! 🙂 <3

A Splash of Red

Love the Grosbeaks. Rarely see them, but every once in a while, I capture a shot of one coming through in spring. This one is munching on sunflower seeds. He was very happy to sit there for a while, taking his fill and returning again the next day and then he was off on his long journey somewhere.

And I’m on my long journey to Christmas in June with the White Wolves! Need to cool off, you know.

Sticking My Neck Out Here…

After picking up all the tree branches and pine cones in the yard from the storm yesterday evening, I finally got started on working on the story. Up to 60K. Need to wrap this puppy up. Only 20K more to go!

Took the picture of the ostrich at the Dallas Zoo. Or maybe Houston Zoo.

White Tiger

I was working on this photo of a white tiger I had taken when my granddaughter saw it (6), and said, “No, Grandma, there’s no such thing as white tigers.”

Lol

“Yep,” I said. “Rare white tigers, a white cougar even, white buffaloes that I have photos of, white lions,–so yep, white tigers.”

We have another wild day ahead of us–both kids today, but at least the baby is now playing in the water, so when I take them to the pool, we should have nothing but fun!

Making Tracks

I actually got caught up on my story on holiday, but I’ll be getting behind again once I have the kids here all week. We have fun though and making memories is so important! I cherish them.

We had 112 heat index this past week and it was way too hot, more than what they ever have here. That’s more for Central Texas when we had unusual scorchers. So I came home to dry birdbaths and an empty fountain. They’re all filled with water, bird feeders are full, and the birds are very happy. I need to pick up the dogs in a little bit. They will need baths first thing and they’ll be matted messes. They won’t groom them unless they shave them off, but the dogs need their hair to insulate them from the heat. They don’t have fur like shedding dogs do. I comb them daily and since they won’t, that is why they will be a mess when I pick them up.

The tomato plants are all thriving, though I found a cutworm on one.

And I’m going to try and get my word count in also!

We had a blast from stormy nights, to white sand beaches and aqua waters, just beautiful. And the temps on the beach were much better than coming home to the heat in Texas right now!

While Writing a Christmas Story

In summer, I need to see snow! I keep forgetting they have to remove tons of outdoor clothes when they go inside. Or they have to bundle up when they go outside. It’s nearly a 100 degrees heat index here, so you see why it’s difficult to think of weather in the minus 20s? lol
