Spring Storms

We had pea size hail and high winds. I missed getting a picture of the sideways rain. We had a little bit of blue skies and then pouring rain again. They had tornado warnings around us. And with all the thunder and lightning, see where the puppies ended up? This is when I really know I’m the alpha. And of course, I was writing on the book, The Bounty Hunter Gets Her Wolf! 20,000 done, 1/4th of the book done!

But after this traumatic dentist appointment at oh-dark-thirty I’m having, I’ll be getting in the final beta critique for Flight of the White Wolf and I’ll have to make the changes and then turn it in to my publisher. And I need to do final proofing on SEAL Wolf Undercover. Still, I want to keep up with my word count on Bounty. Oh, and the final chapters narrated for Taming the Wild Cougar should be coming any day now.

Hmmm, maybe I should just skip my dental appointment??? Just think of all that I could get done if I don’t go.  Laughing evilly.

I don’t know if they turned out, but I captured some shots of doves gathered on the fence in the rain, and a female cardinal eating at the feeder, shaking off water accumulating on her feathers.

But I’m off to the dentist now. I just hope Jenn doesn’t call in the middle of it to say the baby is coming!

The Beauty of Flowers

The flowerbeds are a work in progress. I moved the rocks to have more room to plant, and I’ll probably move them again next year to expand it on the narrow end. The yellow daylilies will keep  expanding.  The orange marigolds I just planted will get bigger and they will reseed themselves. I had a huge amount come back this year in the top flowerbed where the peach daylily was beginning to flower. I didn’t realize they would because they’re an annual.

So I bought tons more. I love flower gardens that help themselves. And marigolds ward off some pests. I’ve planted coreopsis also because some of those came back this year and butterflies love them. I saw a yellow butterfly land on the yellow daylily yesterday, but no camera with me. *sigh* By the time I got the camera, the butterfly was gone. The daylilies are a perennial.

daylilies waterdrops 900 007

The bottom flowerbed had no flowers when I moved in. It was just all mulch. I planted mini boxwood at the back of it. I love year round green. Pittsoporum, that is just holding it’s own. The daylilies never died back, just didn’t flower in the dead of winter. I planted zinnia seeds, so maybe they’ll come out, and there are two zinnia there from flowerpots. Tulips, that are just green leaves. Maybe next year they’ll have flowers.

The peach daylily was a surprise. Well, and so were the marigolds popping back up. I think of all the snapdragons that were in the flowerbed, a couple reseeded themselves, and a few salvia made it. When I’d bought the peach daylily last year, it hadn’t flowered, so I didn’t know how pretty it was. I’ve already planted more flowers and have more to plant. We’re supposed to have severe storms today, so need to get them in the ground early.

Okay, so off to write. I have 2,000 to write to bring word count to 20,000! Also final proofing for SEAL Wolf Undercover to do, and Heart of the Wolf’s new cover has been approved. I have to wait to reveal it though.

Have a flower-filled day!

Lights, Camera, Action!

Diligently working on Bounty (64,000 to go), but when I saw these lights on the floor, I thought, bokeh!

red tailed hawk 900 San Diego 649

In the red-tailed hawk picture, you can see all kinds of beautiful bubbly bokeh.

But see what happens when I try to take a picture of lights shining through the blinds? My havanese want their picture taken. Surely, I meant to do that, right?

New Predator in the Garden!

So I left the country to live in a city and I’ve got hawk problems again. Pictures above from top left to right and down: Hawk at the recovery center in Omaha, Nebraska. Hawk on telephone pole overlooking my side yard. Red-tailed hawk at Balboa Park, San Diego. Sharp-shinned hawk on bird feeder in my back yard, waiting for the birds to return to the seed tray. Are you kidding?

Sure surprised me when I was typing away on my book and a hawk flew a dove into the window, stunning it.

The hawk twisted his head around as he flew after the dove, that dropped to the pavement next to the back door, seeing me, flew to the fence, and parked there. I took a ton of pictures, hoping the dove would revive. I’ve had this happen before–minus the hawk, and move the stunned bird to the front yard (out of the puppies’ reach), and place him under a shrub to recover and then fly away.

The hawk kept returning, missed his meal, but he kept waiting for my birds to return. Sharp-shinned hawk. Might be a Cooper, but from the descriptions of the two hawks, it seems this is a sharp-shinned.

So here is the new hawk, waiting for a meal on wings. ugh. I love them. They’re beautiful. But I don’t want to be feeding the birds to make a smorgasbord for a hawk.

Earlier that day, a whole flock of goldfinches had shown up. Cardinals, blue jays, the red-bellied woodpecker, doves, blackbirds, house finches–I had a full house.

And I wrote 3,000 on Bounty yesterday! So 65,000 to go. I’m determined to keep after it, though I know other things will steal my attention, uhm, besides rescuing birds and taking pictures. And the fae slip in there to create all kinds of havoc–just because I haven’t written their next book.  I just got the next narrated chapter of Taming the Wild Cougar, and need to write a blog for Casablanca. The narrator promises the rest of the chapters this week. And my daughter’s baby is due any day now.

That’s it! Off to write another blog, proof the narrated chapter, type the notes I wrote last night on Bounty, and march on forth!

May the birds of prey always find a meal…somewhere else.

Have a great one.

Welcoming Garden Guests

2 orange butterflies clear 900

Last year these annual pentas grew huge and the butterflies and hummingbirds loved them. I planted them between holly, figuring they would give some color while the holly were filling in. But the flowers filled in nicely and they attracted butterflies and hummingbirds, an added attraction. So I wasn’t sure if I could plant them this year because the holly are bigger now. But then I figured, sure, why not? I planted them in front and behind, instead of in between and in one corner where I have non-flowering tulips, and one bearded iris is beginning to show up.

Max, my white Havanese pulled up one of the irises, and I had to chase him down to  plant it back in the ground. They like to pull up grass and chew on pieces, so to him, it was just a dead piece of grass. NOT. 🙂

And Exchanging Grooms is now available in print!

Now you can understand why a bridal shop wouldn’t take back a “used” wedding gown, but really, if it hasn’t been altered or worn???

Fairy Houses & the Fae

The fairies were trying to distract me yesterday. Really, they were. But I persisted and finished the edits on Flight of the White Wolf, sent it to my 2nd beta reader, got the word count on Bounty Hunter Gets Her Wolf and planted the boxwood.

Wait, you say, BUT you said you were going to get the proofing done on Exchanging Grooms too.

Did I say that? Okay, didn’t quite make it on that, but I did finish proofing over half of it, will finish it and make changes to the manuscript and send it in again for review by the print company before lunch time.

And, work on my word count for Bounty today. 10,000 words, 70,000 to go. At 2,000 words a day, it’s doable!

It’s pouring out!! Lightning, thundering. It’s the same as in the storms I wrote about in Flight. That’s some of why I wanted to get the plants in the ground yesterday before the rains started later in the day. Today is going to be a rain day. A vampire day….

Have a great day, even if the fairies come out to “play” with you. That’s never a good thing, by the way. Missing keys. Things stop working. Believe me, I know.

Fog of the Brain

fog, 900 026

Do you ever have so many projects to do, you don’t know where to begin?

Hopefully, I’ll begin them right and all will be done as planned.

I’m aiming to get the first 10,000 on Bounty Hunter Gets Her Wolf–which means 2,000 words today.

Plant 4 mini boxwood shrubs. I planted all the flowers last night until it got too dark to see what I was doing. 🙂 It’s supposed to rain today, so I’ll have to figure out where to put them sometime today.

Do edits my first beta reader sent to me and then turn this over to my second beta reader. Book is due April 1st, so running out of time.

AND, proof Exchanging Grooms for print. I really, really need to get all my ebooks into print. It’s already in audiobook too! So it needs to be in print. I spent a good part of yesterday formatting it and creating the cover.

Okay, that’s it!!! So as long as I do first things first–edits to Flight of the White Wolf, I’ll be all set to go onto the next assignment. No time for fog brain.

Have a great clear brain day and live up to your potential. You can do it!

Stagecoach Inn–A Ghost of a Chance at Love

A Ghost of a Chance at Love

Time Travel Ghostly Romance

Every year until my mother died, we would visit old Salado, Texas and I always thought: what if I stayed overnight at the historic Stagecoach Inn, back then called The Shady Villa Inn, and woke to the old town, the dirt roads, the original Salado, Texas? Forget using your car. Horseback, buggies, or stagecoach were the only means of travel.

But it wouldn’t be fun to just wake up there! Nope–first of all, I write romantic suspense, so waking up to a hot rancher, now that’s more like it. Yep. He’s in her bed. Wait, no, she’s in his bed! Because when he went to sleep and she went to sleep, they were in different time periods. So. Much. Fun.

See? Just What If something and you never know where you might end up!

A GHOST OF A CHANCE AT LOVE

Time travel western romance.

The past clashes with the present, and one woman finds herself fighting for her own identity in the past so that she can have a future with the man she loves–but with her ancestor’s hold over her–Lisa Welsh and Jack Stanton only have a ghost of a chance at love.

Lisa Welsh only wishes to leave a messy divorce behind for a couple of days stay in Salado, Texas, but wakes to nightmares and a cowboy in her bed, and she has no earthly idea how he got there. But the situation gets worse when she wakes in the morning and learns she’s living in 19th Century Salado. Even more worrisome is the tall dark stranger and everyone else in town believes she’s some woman named Josephine Rogers. Only she’s supposed to be dead.

Jack Stanton can’t believe the clerk gave him an occupied room at the Shady Villa Inn, but worse, he was ready to ravage the woman in that bed—until he realized his mistake. Now the woman he thinks is Josephine, claims to be some other woman—and though he could never abide by Josephine’s fickle ways, this Lisa Welsh intrigues him like no other. Still, everybody in town believes her to be Josephine, and he steps in to help her find her way back home.

Murder, mystery, ties to family roots in the past, embezzlement and murder in the present, and a man she can’t get off her mind no matter what century it is, Lisa has no choice. She must solve the mysteries and face the troubles in her world and Jack’s or they will never be free to share the love that binds them across the ages.

I’ve always loved the old west, time-travels, ghost stories, and historicals. And when a book calls to you?

You gotta do what you gotta do.

Off to work on another interview, and the revised synopsis for Flight of the White Wolf, and then back to Bounty Hunter Gets Her Wolf. 74,000 words to go!

Have a wonderful day down memory lane. 🙂

Rescued Flowers

Sometimes rescuing flowers from garden centers works. Sometimes it doesn’t. Even though these gerbera daisies are beautiful, most of them were looking really bad. They’re the prettiest big flowers, and the other that I had gotten last year (much bigger size in red) never died back, and flowered from late winter to late fall. It’s flowering happily now.

The lavender azaleas’ flowers won’t last much longer and I love purple flowers, so I picked two of them up at half price, though I’d like to get some that are thrice blooming. Those are nearly 10 times the price of these. So maybe next year.

I’m working on The Bounty Hunter Gets Her Wolf now, this is Sarandon Silver’s story. I’ll have to turn in the synopsis soon, so hoping to get a head start on it so that when I write the synopsis, it will work for this book. 74,000 words to go!

My one neighbor works on his garden all the time, so I have to keep up with the Jones’s. My neighbor across the street makes a concerted effort too. I keep adding perennial flowers, hoping they’ll expand and take over, but last year I had just moved in, so it’s a work in progress.

Then yesterday, my other next-door neighbor was planting flowers (they’re new, and the other before them didn’t plant flowers). Oh no! Now I have to redouble my efforts. lol I have two Jones’s to keep up with. And you know what? That’s nice. Pretty landscapes.

sky pencil holly tanner checking out manure 900 005

I planted more of the sky pencil holly yesterday when it was cooler in the morning. It’s getting so hot and muggy in the afternoons already. Here, Tanner is checking out the manure compost soil, wondering who was scent-marking his yard! I still have to plant 9 more holly to reach the end of the fence.

Off to work. Another beautifully foggy morning.
