Four different kinds of woodpeckers were at the feeder yesterday. The redheaded woodpecker, hairy woodpecker (which I’ve never seen at the feeders before), and the red-bellied woodpecker. I missed catching the pileated (Woody Woodpecker). Camera was in the wrong place and by the time I got set up, he was gone.
Also, a baby blue jay and baby robin! A baby squirrel too and a ladybug, but will show it off tomorrow.
Working on edits on Red Wolf. Moving things around. Deleting, adding, have added 3,000 words.
I always get up early, but 4:30 is a little early now when I don’t have to get up that early for little one. But my daughter wanted to go to the hardware store and a garden center on a Saturday before the heat and crowds came, so at 5:30, we were out and about.
So we got to see the sunrise before the hardware store opened, picked up mulch, which I just put down before it gets much hotter, and of course need more.
But neither of us have very big cars, so we can’t get all that much and we both needed some. Stores were all empty and that was great!
It was fun though. We haven’t been able to do this since last year. We always go together once or twice during the spring or summer.
I’m busy trying to revise Red Wolf and still trying to finish it. I changed a few things and that meant major rewrites and moving sections all around. What a job. lol But someone’s got to do it. And it always means it’s better.
Have a super safe day! I’m home and staying there now!!!
It always gets away from me. I think sometimes that maybe it would be best to just have…grass.
But taking pictures of tons of grass would be downright…boring.
Okay, little one will be here any second. I was out weeding like crazy and cutting back some rosebush branches that were dead.
And I was using the Wacom to paint a tulip, first lesson. I am so bad with the Wacom, it’s like being a toddler and learning how to draw with a crayon. So trying to learn a painting skill with it on top of that makes it doubly bad. I was doing better on a bottle, lemon, and pear with the mouse. I did them with the pen also. But I’m sure as I get more used to it–practice does make things better!–I will get better at it.
The pen doesn’t want to curve when I want to curve. It wants to squiggle.
This is the first lesson in painting color onto blown-out highlights in Beyond the Brushes. We haven’t gotten the training in edges yet. I have 3 other practice pictures to work on after this. But I’m also going to pull up the first 3 pictures of the bottle, lemon, and pear and redo them to get more practice in. My Wacom wouldn’t work yesterday so I gave up on it and just worked on Red Wolf. I had worked on that all day, but was taking a break from that to paint the picture.
They show people doing beautiful pictures with people and pets. The fur critters is what I want to do.
Went to the grocery store yesterday, and was glad to see that most people were distancing and wearing masks. This woman came up to me and said, “Ma’am. Ma’am.” And I looked up from peering at the meats to see my daughter in a mask. lol We’d had the same idea.
This is an image I shot of a viaduct in Glenfinnan and I did catch some shots of rainbows and fogbows while I was there. But in this shot, we finally had a little bit of a clearing in the skies. We were rained on while waiting for the Harry Potter train to come!
Okay, I’m off to the grocery store. It’s been about 2 weeks. Hope you all have a great day.
Playing around with the Chalk Version in Topaz Studio.
Yesterday, little one and I had fun making an angel food cake, making eggs that she didn’t want until I sat down to eat mine and then she wanted one. So I gave her that one and I made another for me and she wanted it. I ate mine and made her another one. I showed her how I made spaghetti.
On our trips outside, we found a ladybug and a BABY ladybug and a beautiful blue dragonfly, lots of monarchs and bad milkweed bugs. She’s learned that blue jays are blue jays. She recognizes bluebirds. We’re working on woodpeckers, robins, mockingbirds, and cardinals, instead of just birds.
She helped me with the laundry, washing windows, vacuuming and washing wood trim. It was a good day. lol
We painted toenails and did numbers and read books, did pre-school workbooks and practiced saying the letter S–she loses the s on snack, snake, and squirrel.
We had fun!
But it’s back to a wild day of edits and writing on Red Wolf!
Have a super safe day. Distance and masks. Save lives.

A fan from Australia already got hers so I’m hoping everyone who ordered theirs from all over have them in their hot little hands soon!
Hope you enjoy! Little one is coming and I’ve got to post about the new release and get ready for her. It’s been storming, yay! Love the rain, and I’ve been weeding in between storms. Cooler, instead of 100 degree index factor, and wetter so easier to pull up weeds. I was going to make a quick walk to the mailbox today, but it’s raining!
Have a super, great day, stay safe, and read about the billionaire wolves to get away from it all!
this Memorial Day weekend. We usually think of the soldiers who died in battle, but we have a new battle with COVID-19 and I want to remember all of those who have died while doing their jobs to save the sick and those who were providing a service that keeps us going too! All the people behind the scenes, the grocery workers, parcel deliverers, those working at the food processing plants. The list goes on and on.
The deaths continue to rise across the world in this deadly battle.
Had a ball at my daughter and son-in-law’s house for his birthday. I had gotten him a board game, Everdell, that we played and though I said he should win, since it was his birthday, I won! Even better. lol My friend said, they let me win. Ha! They are super competitive. We’d never played the game so we learned as we went and while they were wheeling and dealing, I was doing my own little hope-this-works strategy and it did. They were both shocked. I really thought my daughter had won. I had double their score. Yay for Grandma!
We’re having hamburgers on the grill for Memorial Day.
So, I’m back to working on Red Wolf. Starting from the beginning and editing more. Though I still need to finish it. I’m hoping working from the beginning, I will know what I need to do. Talk to me, people! (I’m talking to the characters in the story–they really do their own thing and if I interfere, I go down the wrong path.)
We’re supposed to get rain. But that’s been the same old story for days now. You have 100% chance of rain at 8 am, delayed now until 2-3 pm, wait, 10 pm, no, 2 in the morning, change that to 8 am, how about 5-6 in the evening, okay, not until 8 in the morning, make that 5 in the evening… This is the ongoing changes from day to day. They say women change their minds, ha! The weather is worse!
So not a a drop of rain, yet we were supposed to have it from Friday through Thursday of next week. It’s Sunday now. Noon–that’s what they say now. Honest. Noon. Well actually: 12:15 to be precise.
Right. It will come if it comes. And right now? I have no faith in the weatherman. Just saying… lol
The challenge this week in the flower photography FB group is to do soft flower photography. In the yellow hydrangea and white flower, the softness was created in camera.
In the azalea, I added layers of brush work, then topped it with a texture overlay. Creating the soft look in the photos in camera is fun though. I’m going to try and do some more of that.
Today we’re celebrating my son-in-law’s birthday, so trying to get some writing in this morning and this afternoon. I didn’t think about getting wrapping paper for the birthday presents! And with Covid-19, I don’t make all kinds of extra shopping trips for stuff I forget, so I’ll need to find something! We don’t even get paper bags any longer, so that I could wrap it in brown paper and decorate! Maybe I have some more of little one’s birthday paper. lol
