Is Your Life out of Control?

When baby was here, she slammed her foot on my laptop and changed my email to tiny print. Ugh. So I think I had to reset the size and then shut down. Hopefully, that corrected it.

Then today, I have had computer issues, internet issues all morning. I needed to move my big picture files from my hard drive, so trying to do that and everything is moving at SLOWER than a snail’s pace. Used CC cleaner to remove some junk, and it cleaned out all my passwords, so trying to remember them. lol

And sometimes I hit the wrong button on my camera and it brackets my pictures, which is a pain in the patootie. I think I’m taking a picture using the whole frame, but I’m not, and I cut part of the picture off that I don’t want to cut off. So then I have to figure out which button I hit and un–button it.

So that’s my story! But I did get 3,000+ words written yesterday on SEAL Wolf Surrender, and that’s the good news! I just can’t wait to finish it! Five-thousand words to go!

OMG, it’s clear out mostly, and raining. I guess that’s what they mean when they say a small percentage of rain. My neighbors across the street aren’t getting any.

Anyway, I decided to try something new. The penta flowers are big time hummingbird and butterfly attractors (yes, it is not a word, but I’m an author, so I make them up as I go), but I’ve run out of room, and another couple of flowering plants I had that the hummingbirds and butterflies love didn’t make it through the ice and snow we had. I decided to try hanging baskets of lantana and petunas right next to the patio.  If they attract the hummers and butterflies, I might get some really good shots. Or not.

And I totally confused the squirrel. I changed the order of the squirrel pictures, but WordPress wouldn’t honor the change. *sigh* So the first picture was of the squirrel in the hanging petunia basket, wondering where the seed was. The birds had the same issue. lol

But it is fun. I hope they do well. I’ve never tried them before but my mother always had beautiful baskets of hanging flowers. If nothing else, I’m going to have fun taking flower pictures for as long as they survive. And I can plant the lantana in the ground as it will come back in the spring.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Which reminds me of my writing. The only way the book is going to finish itself is if I lend a hand.

Oh, and I have two panda bear orders!

The Silver Town wolf pack has your back

Wolf shifter Sarandon Silver’s in trouble with the law, and bounty hunter she-wolf Jenna St. James is determined to bring him in for trial.

Lucky for Sarandon, the entire Silver Town pack is ready to fight for his innocence. But until the case is solved, Jenna’s sticking to Sarandon like glue…

“Ms. Spear has a winner! The first chapter set things up kind of slow but isn’t that how a roller coaster starts? Once you reach the top, it’s a downhill ride filled with speed, chills, thrills and WhooHoos! That’s the fun of All’s Fair in Love and Wolf. Once this novel gets going it’s a great read and is nearly impossible to put down once the chase is on.

The attraction between Jenna and Sarandon started within a most unusual circumstance and I think that’s what hooked me.”

Loved the review!

Okay, it is still raining, love it! And I’m off to write!! Have a lovely day!

The Squirrel Hunt is on…Or the Squirrel Game is on…

Max is my hunter. Both havanese are, but he’s the fastest and he caught the rat that meant no more rats on my feeders. None. Any. More. The rats live in packs like wolf packs and so once one of their own was killed in front of another, that was too afraid to leave the feeder, no more rats.

Max also is persistent. Tanner wanders off and does his own thing. But if Max is chasing the squirrels, he’ll join him.

So the squirrel chase is on. They run so much slower than the havanese, but they tend to do tactical maneuvers much faster. They turn and twist and the dogs can’t turn that fast. The squirrels are a real nuisance with the feeders, dumping the feed on the ground. Some birds eat it, but often it just rots. I use the tray for the bigger birds. And yes, I’ve tried squirrel-proof feeders and they are impossible to clean.

Max usually sits at the base of the pine tree where the squirrel has scrambled. Max can jump really high, but the squirrel will stay just out of his reach. It’s a game to the squirrel. He’s wagging his tail at him. Taunting me while standing up next to the shrubs, makes for great pictures. I always try to look at the bright side of things! But here, Max was hiding behind a shrub, lol, waiting for the squirrel to leave the tree. He is becoming a tactician.

We have tons of squirrels, so it’s not just one. And I doubt if the dogs managed to catch one, that would deter others. I don’t really want them to kill them either.

I just switched to seeds only variety of birdseed, so hope that helps lessen the mess. And I bought a composter for the garden. More about that later.

Managed to get 2,000 words on my off day (baby was here), so up to 54,000! Twenty-six to go. Now, that wasn’t hard, was it? Goals, goals, goals, and working toward them, even if I don’t feel like it. Still nauseous and can’t seem to kick this bug, but I’m writing anyway. It’s easy to make excuses, so I try not to!

Have a super day!!!

Dogs and Cats and Squirrels, Oh My!

It’s been raining and raining and raining since yesterday. You can see the wet squirrel and the rain pouring down. The tabby cat is in hunting mode, headed for the bird feeder and checking out the water fountain. The dogs are lined up waiting for me to fix lunch, but they should have guessed I would take pictures of them. Then Luna began poking her nose at Tanner. They’re the two alphas and she didn’t want him there, so she intimidated him until he got up and moved. He loves getting his picture taken. Poor Tanner.

I tried to get low to take a head on shot of the puppies, but that won’t work. As soon as I did, they all came over to greet me. lol

Reached 45,000! Over halfway done! Woohoo!

Have a great day. I’m off to write!!

When You Overeat…

Tanner says he’d exercise the squirrel after he ate all Tanner’s food.

Even if the birdseed isn’t Tanner’s either.

Vignette or Not to Vignette

squirrel 900 on table 002.png

Vignettes can help to showcase your subject, the dark or lighter (if you use a lighter vignetting around the subject), draws the eye in to see the subject.

Some photographers like it. Others don’t. Or want a very natural look, so use the natural vignette and darken it just a little. This is the picture as I took it, as far as the vignetting goes. When I sit at my desk, the window frame and wooden box on my desk acted as vignettes. Not sure what caused it from the upper right corner.

The second photo, I used a center light to brighten the picture a bit.The first, I warmed it up a bit to a peachy tone.

Which is better?

So much of photography, or any kind of art, is a judgement call.

Even writing. Say it this way, or that? Which is better? For one person, the one way. For another, a different way.

squirrel-on-table-sooc-900-002

This is the original picture (SOOC), no changes. The scene is much more blue.

I’ve decided I am the “crooked photographer”–only because nearly every thing I capture is tilted. And I don’t even need to have anything to drink to produce them all that way!

It was a dark, dreary day, pouring rain nearly all day long, when the squirrel, a juvenile, was trying to get at the bird feeders. Here, he caught me catching him in a shot!

Okay, so I really am working, and got SEAL Wolf Undercover editing done late last night and sent it in. I need to work on Dreaming of the White Wolf Christmas this weekend, and then get back on track with Flight of the White Wolf. I’ve started reading the Rita books too, ch 3, one book of 6. I want to re-read Loving the White Bear one last time and then put it up for sale. I want to make the changes to Galaxy Warrior, and then re-read one last time and put it up for sale.

I need to write the novella for Heart of the Wolf re-release, going to get a new cover, yay! But I need to re-read Heart of the Wolf to see which 2ndary character I want to use in the story. I actually started one several years ago, so maybe I can use it. Some stories require a full length novel to do them justice though. So not sure. 🙂

The only way to make the deadlines go away is to get on the projects and get them done. Simple! Right!

So off I go on my merry way to save the world–through my heroes and heroines, of course!

Have a heroic day!

Bad Squirrel

bad squirrel (771x800)He’s a bad squirrel because I say so. He’s tipped over the seed tray, which means my puppies will eat the seeds and then Tanner will get me up all night to let him out because seeds are not digestible.

But really, is the squirrel being bad? Or just being a squirrel? The latter of course. And that’s what happens with perceptions.

Gulf fritillary butterfly on kaleidoscope wings spread behind flower1 (792x800)Beautiful Gulf fritillary butterfly on the kaleidoscope butterfly bush playing peek-a-boo. The butterfly is a good guy. He’s colorful and adds beauty to the landscape. But how did he come to be a butterfly? He was a voracious, plant-eater! So in one form, sweet and beautiful and innocent. And in another–just as bad as the squirrel. Perceptions. Yet he is just being a caterpillar/butterfly.

Ruby Throated hummingbird text 648x528And then there is the ruby-throated hummingbird! Beautiful. Here he was feeding off the pentas flowers. But I will say that he’s very territorial. He chased off another hummingbird and he dive bombs me sometimes. lol But I can handle it. They’re beautiful! So see? Even if there’s a negative, I still see them as akin to fairies in the garden. Perceptions.

Have a great day and hope you don’t have any naughty squirrels in your life!

Only the Shadow Knows

evil squirrel has got my food (640x611)The evil squirrel has got my food.~~Sparrow

Mine! All mine!!!~~Juvenile squirrel

Focusing was a challenge. I was trying to focus on the bird, which I did, but sometimes it would focus on the squirrel, and sometimes on the house behind the bird. So I was well pleased when the “evil” squirrel looked like a hulking shadow, ears, tails and all as he’s sitting on top of the feeder, and the bird is hoping he’ll leave soon so he can get a beak or two of seed.

I’m nearly done on rereading/editing Loving the Silver Wolf one last time. I always print out pages as I’m working, so I can get away from the monitor and edit the ongoing book. But at the end, I find changing the View to Read really helps me to catch more mistakes. Somehow, not sure how, I had a chapter out of order. And I had a sentence that indicated the heroine knew about something she shouldn’t know about yet. In movie lingo this would be Blurpers. 🙂

But I’m also finding all the loose ends, and either fixing it on the page I’m working on, or jotting down notes so I can be sure to add something in that will explain what had happened later. I love this point in the manuscript because the book is done. It just needs a little bit of smoothing. 🙂

Okay, off to work on the book and then after that, I’ve got to work on the long synopsis for Billionaire in Wolf’s Clothing due on Monday. And then I have to edit A Very Jaguar Christmas. And then, I’m off to work on The Viking’s Highland Lass!!!!

Have a super great Sunday!

Squirrel, Feeder, and Shadow

squirrel time and his shadow (640x411)

Like a thief in the day, the squirrel stretches out to grab some birdseed, but its shadow also stretches out to the bird feeder’s shadow. So if you didn’t see the real squirrel, you could see his shadow in action.
