It’s Raining, It’s Pouring!

Yay! I worked in the heat and mugginess a lot yesterday since we’d had 4 1/2″ of rain and it made it easier to pull up grass and it was a tiny bit cooler. Last night it started to rain again and we have another 2″ of rain, so that means weeding some more tomorrow while the ground is nice and moist. It might rain until 7 pm tonight, or not. Little one is on her way soon.

I’m 1/3 of the way through proofing Vampire Redemption for print. I finished setting up and doing the print cover for Scepter of Salvation yesterday, so the book should come out soon. Waiting on Mage of Monrovia cover and then I can finish it and produce it. And sent in the specs on Vampire Redemption to the cover artist so waiting on that one, and then it’s back to coming up with the story for the Highland novel.

I thought this was an interesting article–are we washing too much?

Okay, that’s it for me. Little one will be here and I need to get to work before that happens.

Have a great day!! And… well, you know what to do. Stay safe!

Bears and Birds

mellow-yellow-mohair-bear-900

This is a yellow mohair bear and the last I’ll be making for a little while.

cove-chasing-off-cowbird-blackbirds-900-8709

Dove trying to chase off cowbirds (blackbirds). The cowbirds lay their eggs in other birds’ nests so that the other birds will take care of the cowbirds’ and not their own.

So I was glad the dove won out.

Back to the book. Doing edits this morning, which means not really adding a lot. Take out, add some, take out….etc, etc, etc. But it’s necessary!

Have a lovely day!!

Cropping Life

Mourning Dove in the Fairy Garden

Okay, so say the experts that you should use the Rule of Thirds for cropping, for the most part. So I thought that meant your subject should be in one of the boxes that bordered the photo. One site said the important object should be in the cross hairs. Now, another had said the eyes in a portrait should be above the middle line, if it’s a centered portrait, so maybe it doesn’t have to be in the cross hairs. What do I know?

In the first photo, the dove is in the left box of the Rules of Thirds. The second, it’s on the cross hairs. Which seems like a better crop to you?

Cropping photos is like cropping stories. Getting the meat of the story/picture out there. Sharing what’s relevant and beautiful, not convoluted and boring.

I used to write in a diary–but so much of life needs to be cropped out. 🙂 It’s boring, dull, just the same-oh, same oh… When I tossed my diaries, I tossed a lot of interesting bits of life too. Stuff I couldn’t remember if I wanted to.

I remember listening to an author talk about how he journaled and how seeing something happen, capturing it in words right then and there was important because a year down the road, two years, ten years, the details were gone. Vaporized. The general gist of it he could remember, sure. But the details are what make the scene vivid. Real. Because it was real.

Do you ever listen to someone telling a story, and you so want them to get to the point??? To cut out all the extraneous details?

To crop or not to crop…or where to crop…that is the question!

Nitpicky Little Things…

You know, life is full of them! Those nagging little things that need to be taken care of–the weeds pulled, and stuff readied for the mail, the garbage set out, the list made that I neglect to make, then run to the store and forget half of the things I really needed to get. Why is that? I know I  need to get them, and then…there’s all this other stuff I really want to have. Not NEED to have, but WANT to have.

So I was up at 4:45, got all the nitpicky little things out of the way, and now I have to write my blog and I’m tired. Maybe I should go back to sleep. 🙂

But, wait, I have more things to do. Lots of more things to do. Who could sleep at a time like that? Right?

Yesterday, I went out to refill a bird feeder, but the juvenile doves were sitting on it. I figured they’d leave when I got close. But they didn’t. So I returned to the house and took my camera and got really close to the birds and took photos. The one in the feeder was so tame, he just waited there the whole time.

The mockingbird landed near me too, and a house finch was on the fountain behind me, but he flew off when I turned around.

Have a great one!

NEVER Stop Believing…

In SEAL Wolf in Too Deep, he really has a time telling her about who he really is. So remember that. If you’re strictly human, your other half might not be, but is just reluctant to tell you about his/her other side. They deserve all your love no matter what.

Have a great day! Hopefully, our garbage will be picked up today. I threw out all the food that I think might have spoiled because of our 20 hours or so of no electricity.

Okay, Will Everyone Please Look this Way and Say Cheese!

doves 001 (640x336)doves 003 (640x345)Nope. Unlike my dogs that love to pose for the camera, birds, mourning doves in this case, are taking turns being on guard while the others are eating. I will say they all were looking to the right at one point, but I wasn’t able to get the camera out in time to photograph it. Doves mate for life, so these are probably two couples. Sometimes one will chase another away, but sometimes they’re fine with each other all feeding at the same time. Sometimes they’ll just rest there, as if this is a nice safe spot for them to stay a while.

Coming down to the wire on the book deadline. Usually I have my books completed and turned in a month ahead of time. But with family visiting for the holidays, the move, being sick, the reader’s conference, and trying to sell my house, it took me a while to even have my computer set up for working. Plus, I didn’t have my signed contract for the book until a week ago, so technically, I shouldn’t have even started it until I had the contract in hand.

But, it’s getting closer. Only 14,000 words left to go! At least for word count. I’ll still be finishing it and editing it. I have two bear orders to get done too, but my sewing machine isn’t set up. And my daughter is coming over with a couple of friends to use my big kitchen counter to bake Valentine’s cookies on Friday. I’ll take pictures, maybe sneak a cookie, and hopefully have my word count done before they show up! 🙂 <3

Have a great day!
