Keep Cool

So I was trying to get to my granddaughters ENT appointment. She had tubes put in her ears for the constant infections. There were two bad accidents, the traffic was piled up for three miles, and I was late. Then I couldn’t find the children’s hospital. Then I couldn’t find the right place to go in the children’s hospital. AND she felt asleep on the way over, she really needed it, but I was trying to rush through the hospital with a 25 pound toddler sleeping on my shoulder, and a 15 pound diaper bag, and a 3 pound purse hanging off the other. I felt like I was on army maneuvers fighting against the enemy–time.

The good news was I was late and I didn’t have to wait any time at all. Oh, except I had to prove I should have the baby. Okay, folks, why would I take my granddaughter to an ear appointment if I wasn’t supposed to? I could think of a lot more fun things to do. Anyway, after they scanned my driver’s license, I was in the doctor’s office, and then the doctor said her ears looked great, no infection, no fluid in the ears, BUT, she thought she might have pink eye. UGH.

So after the doctor’s appointment, Grandma showed her the fish in the tanks (all fish are Dory), the pretty potted plants, which she delighted in seeing her own reflection in, the beautiful artwork sick children had created, and then the wall mural, had to get a pretty picture. Then I called her momma with the good news and the bad. Day cares mean that the sickness cycles through the place every two weeks. Remove clothes when she gets home from daycare and wash.

By the time we got home, I had an email from my daughter. New doctor’s appointment for that afternoon. At least that one is really close by, no accidents, and I left in plenty of time. She was sound asleep on the way over, I had to rock her in my arms while standing because if I sit, she would wake up, and she actually stayed asleep through the weighing, temperature check and other vital signs checks. Prognosis, both eyes have pink eye. Not bacterial (the eyes would have crusty discharge), but viral from all the stuff she’s been sick of for the last two weeks. So Grandma took her to the grocery store to pick up her eye drops, she has them for 5 days, and by then, she should be all cleared up. Before I have to take care of her again. lol

In any event, I’m glad she was fine otherwise. It meant I didn’t get to do anything with my writing except get through two more chapters to edit. So hoping I’ll get a LOT further today!

Have a super day and Be Cool, Keep Cool, Dog Days of Summer are on their way.

Carolina Anole–Friends in the Garden

I love the little Caroline anoles. They change colors, depending on where they’re sitting. I like their green color best. The bumblebees and honeybees are busy now, and unfortunately, so are the fire ants. I was out weeding yesterday, moving more Asian Lilies and finding the bad ants. The butterflies were fluttering around in mating dances too. It’s spring!

I wrote two of the scenes I needed and edited the prologue and first 2 chapters yesterday. Today is baby day and I have to take her to a drs. appt and we’ll probably get groceries. I keep running out. How is that happening? I think I’ve bought everything I need and then wait, there’s only one of those left in the package?

Hopefully, I’ll get some editing done today and write the final scene and finish editing tomorrow.

In the meantime, have a great day!!!

Spring is Here! I think!

Monarch butterflies frolicking in the garden, laying eggs, enjoying the warm weather and starting the next generation. I picked up flower seeds and dianthus and daylilies to plant.

Mostly sleeping through the night, yay! Coughing during the day, which I don’t mind as long as I sleep through the night! I wrote a little last night after the baby left. She’s so funny. When her mom and I talk, she talks too, just chattering away. Imitating us. lol But of course she doesn’t make any sense. Still, she knows a lot of vocabulary and sometimes she surprises us with words and phrases we didn’t think she knew. Plus, she repeats a lot of songs on TV, and she was counting with the Lil Baby Bum program yesterday. She can sort colors and she knows a lot of shapes. She’s growing up! It’s fun to see her learning so much. She has a mind of her own though!

Okay, I’m off to try and write some more, maybe get most of the rest of the book done today, baby’s here tomorrow, and then on Thursday I hope to finish any last scenes. I still need to write 3 more. After that, I have to read it all the way through.

Have a great day!! I can’t wait to finish the book so I can start on the next one. Can’t remember what it is though. The last one on contract is the red wolf Christmas book.

Viking Romance

Even fierce warriors can take a breather from their fighting to have a loving moment.

I have about 3 more scenes to write, otherwise, I think the book is done. I’ll have to re-read it from beginning to end. It’s 13,000 words over word count, yay! I just have to write the other scenes. Baby is supposed to be here. I’m still sick. She’s still sick. But at least for the last couple of nights I managed to sleep without coughing. I’m still coughing all day.

If she wasn’t here today, I’d be able to finish the book, most likely. I had to write several scenes yesterday, and the epilogue, so just couldn’t manage.

Have a great day, and I’m off to try to make it through mine.

I loved this review!

I’m still sick, still coughing my lungs out, and still barely getting any sleep. But despite that, I finally managed to write 7,000 words on the story yesterday. So I’m 8K over word count and still have a long ways to go. But I’m thrilled to finally be moving forward again to the end!

At least I finally could concentrate on the story yesterday, unlike earlier when, because of lack of sleep, everything was just a foggy mess, hard to concentrate and come up with ideas. I still need to sleep. Desperately. In the middle of the night, I envisioned three of me, each one taking turns to cough while something was coming out of the darkness to get me. The other night, I dreamed I was being choked to death, until I could finally get a cough out. So yes, nighttime hasn’t been my friend.

Okay, I’m off to cough and write and hopefully get somewhere with this. I was just asked for marketing materials for the book on top of that. No more deadlines! I need to finish this book.

Have a delightful day!!!

An Afternoon Spent with My Daughter and Granddaughter during Spring Break

We had a nice lunch–lobster sandwiches and for the toddler, mac and cheese, and then took a walk to a park and a lake that we tried to reach when the baby was just an infant, maybe 2 mos. old. It was about a 4-mile hike from her place, but the road had dead ended. Now it’s open and there’s a dock and we saw a great white heron and an egret, though what fascinated Keira most was the man walking his dog. She loves dogs. We drove this time, it was raining and neither Keira and I are well enough for long hikes right now. But we did walk the short distance from the parking area to the boat dock.

She is covering her hand with an ice pack I picked up for her on my trip to Minnesota. It’s perfect for when little fingers get into things they shouldn’t. But she very happily carried the ice pack around forever, constantly putting her hand down, and covering it with the ice pack. She’s so funny.

I went home with them afterward and watched the baby while momma hung lights outside on the patio cover. Momma wasn’t sick, but both Grandma and baby are still wiped out. So she and I watched The Little Mermaid, and then I went home to try and write. I’m just not getting enough sleep. I can’t think straight. I did better last night, more periods of not coughing and managing some sleep, but I need a few good nights of solid sleep. I’m already tired and I haven’t the day.

We had a terrific storm this morning. Luckily, it stopped by the time I got up to put the dogs and the garbage out.

I’m off to do something. Hopefully, like write the book! Hope you get to do some fun things today!!!

Flowers Blooming Everywhere

Had to run out to get more healthy foods, drop off tax paperwork, and saw all the flowers blooming so had to take a few pictures.

Still feel like death warmed over–still coughing my head off. And not sleeping. And I was pulling up weeds yesterday and tangled with stinging nettle, I guess. I didn’t see it, but man, was I in pain. My first thought was fire ants, but they’re not out much yet. Gardening can be wickedly painful sometimes. Moral of the story: wear gardening gloves.

Okay, I’m off to have lunch with my sick daughter and granddaughter–the granddaughter who is ground zero for all the sickness.

Hope you all have a beautiful day! I’m enjoying mine no matter what! And writing, but I might need a nap first.

Enough Coughing Already!

Yellow milkweed flowers that have been flowering throughout the winter and clover, looked for a 4-leaf one, but haven’t found any. Did you know if you were trying to survive in the wilderness, you could eat the clover? They say it’s best to cook it for about five minutes. I remember when we were kids in California, we would suck on the honey-sweet flowers. Clover is also good for the soil because it adds nitrogen to the soil. Bumblebees and honeybees love the flowers too.

I was watching a movie about the thirteen-year-old African boy who harnessed the wind. It’s amazing how bright a mind can be, yet because of poverty, the boy wouldn’t have had an education. He was persistent, believing in his idea, even when no one else would. He saved his village from famine, after reading a book on harnessing wind power and creating a windmill. It was a feel-good story and he was given scholarships to get an education and then advanced schooling, and graduated from Dartmouth.

My dad would have liked it too. He was always creating gizmos and fixing things, and it reminded me of him. He came from poverty too. But at least he had an education, if he’d wanted it. He played hooky a lot. He and a cousin would go borrow a boat and fish in Puget Sound, more like Huckleberry Finn.

So I’m still sick.

I’m so tired of coughing all day and night! I’ve tried everything and nothing works. The cough drop I finally tried at 12 am said that it would work for 4 hours. Bull. An hour and a half later, I finally was numb enough that it suppressed the coughing. Okay. Fine. At least 2 1/2 hours of sleep would be welcome. I think I had one hour. Even when I wasn’t coughing, I couldn’t sleep. Soooooo annoying.

But I did do the edits on the novella and turned it in this morning. I’m getting ready to walk to the mailbox. I need to ship the bear and turn in my taxes to the CPA and arm myself with more cough medicines. ugh. I really, really need to sleep.

Hope you don’t get what I’ve got!!! Have a lovely day!

Finished Bear! No Work on Novella-to my dismay

I finished the bear. Yay!

Clan MacLean

And I went to do the novella changes yesterday so I could focus on Wolff brother today, but can’t open my editor’s file. We have this problem all the time, but I was so sick when she contacted me, I didn’t even think to try and open the file. Ugh. Or else I would have done that. So until I get a file I can open, it’s not done.

My fever returned last night, much higher. I was reading that you feel worse at night–that fevers return, which are raising your temps to kill off the germs. I’d prefer not to get antibiotics if I don’t have to because your germs can become resistant to the antibiotics. I’m dead tired this morning because of all the coughing last night, and I’m continuing with the coughing today. So do I go in to see a doctor? Expose others with what I have and others expose me with what they’re in for? Or just figure it’s running it’s course and will be over within its own good time?

Sunflower from Birdseed

Usually, I’d say I’d rather write. But I’m so tired….I can’t think straight. Time is of an essence though. One day goes by, and then another, and then all of a sudden, it’s time to turn in the book. So, tired or not, I’ve got to write. It’s not like I haven’t been thinking about it either. A scene keeps playing out in my mind, so today, I’ll figure out where it needs to go and write it.

I think I’ll tough it out for another day, no doctor. If the fever returneth tonight, I’ll see how I feel in the morning. Sound like a plan?

Max is sitting on my lap, his head over my left typing arm. Wait. You did not just go to sleep on my arm, sitting up, Max, did you?

They are concerned about me being sick. They are such good little dogs. They are goofy too. I feed them breakfast right away or they will perish first thing in the morning. Really. That’s what they tell me. But when I eat breakfast, maybe 3 hours later, they want to eat again too–lunch. No, it’s not lunch time. But if I eat, it means it’s lunch time.

Then later, I will eat lunch, and they really do have to be fed. Dinner is no problem. Only I get it. It’s just the issue of breakfast and lunch that confuses them.

Okay, off to think about writing as I’m coughing my head off. Hope you are in a sick-free zone this week! Have a great one!
