2021 Was Supposed to Get Better!

I’m a long ways from finishing White Wolf but I’m getting closer. 🙂 It’s been a job with changing out the whole new beginning, and I’ve deleted some scenes, added a ton more and I definitely like the story better. Minimum word count is 80K, I’m  now at 96K, and I’m sure I’ll be deleting more, just not sure what to take out and what to keep. I still need to write more.

I don’t often include the bad guy’s POV in the book, but in this case I did because I did in the original story he was in. And because it adds more conflict.

Dove and Snow and Ice

We still have freezing temperatures, still have some snow on the ground. Electricity has stayed on. Thank God! Because of the screw up by so many concerning the electric grid failures across much of Texas, the word is getting out that for 2 days–or more, electric customers will be charged $400 per day. Like everybody can afford that, right?

So we can thank those who, as usual, are making the big bucks and failing do to what they should have done to prevent this from occurring in the first place. Heads should roll, comes to mind. And when we have a crisis this bad–people are still without electric, some counties are on boil water orders–with no electric, how is that possible?–more pipes will burst without electric–some people are without water, plumbers are stretched to the max, and we haven’t even thawed out to see how bad it will be, we should all just head to Cancun, right?

Meanwhile:

The New York Times states: “The number of confirmed Covid deaths in the U.S. is on pace to exceed 500,000 in the next few days.

Yet the alarmism continues. And now we are seeing its real-world costs: Many people don’t want to get the vaccine partly because it sounds so ineffectual.

About one-third of members of the U.S. military have declined vaccine shots. When shots first became available to Ohio nursing-home workers, about 60 percent said no. Some N.B.A. stars are wary of appearing in public-services ads encouraging vaccination.

Nationwide, nearly half of Americans would refuse a shot if offered one immediately, polls suggest. Vaccination skepticism is even higher among Black and Hispanic people, white people without a college degree, registered Republicans and lower-income households.” The New York Times

Why? It’s safe, it’s effective. It reduces the downtime of being sick if you get Covid. We need to dumb down the rhetoric. With all the high-fluting medical jargon, people aren’t getting the right message. And more people are going to die from it. I don’t understand it, but hey, what do I know?

Put it this way–if everyone gets the vaccine, maybe we can open businesses up again??? Maybe no masks after the 2nd dose and the time waited for it to be effective, right? Anyway, I can’t worry about people not taking care of themselves. I just have to worry about doing what’s right for my characters in my books. Would they take the vaccine? You’d better believe it.

I saw a post that said:

2020: The Year in Hell

2021: The Year Hell Froze Over

Okay, I’m back to the book, living in the wonderful world of fantasy where we have a happily ever after!

Have a super great day and stay safe!!

If You Get Up Earlier

White Winged Dove all Fluffed Up

They say if you get up earlier than normal, you don’t get as much done. Well, I’ve been transferring files because my hard drive is too full and so I’ve been getting a lot done. Though I’ve been up for 3 hours and haven’t even done my blog.

I did get other stuff done also. Is it lunch time yet?

Oh, yes, and next week is Release Day for Night of the Billionaire Wolf!!! Tuesday! May 26!

Have a super great day and stay safe!

Crazy Critters

The juvenile squirrel was trying to get on this feeder, but he kept falling off. The white-winged dove was flapping his wings like crazy trying to get tidbits of seeds on the same little feeder. lol So I caught a few frantic flapping-wing trips to the feeder. They weren’t giving up.

And that’s dedication. Seeds are all over the ground, but somehow the ones in the feeder are worth the effort!

I managed 3,000 words yesterday–getting toward my 89K word goal. Eighty was minimum.

No sugar in my diet for a week now, no cravings. I picked up grapes and cantaloupe, have apples and carrots, so if I feel the urge to have something sweet, I’ve got it. And they taste sweeter now that I’m not eating tons of candy. Though my friend said that dark chocolate has all kinds of health benefits as long as it has 70% cacao, so I’m going to pick up some that have almonds in them (the almonds are also good for you), and have those as backup. BUT only a piece a day, or I undo all I’ve done with being good.

Off to write!

Have a super great day and stay safe!!!

Birds in the Rain

A dove with water droplets on its back, goldfinch, and red-bellied woodpecker. Tried to capture the cardinals, but missed them. 🙂 <3

We had rain all day yesterday and the day before. The birds were singing and eating in the rain.

But I was diligently revising A Billionaire Wolf Christmas. Managed to get through 260 pages yesterday. It didn’t take long to make the few minor changes, but I had to read the book all the way through to make sure I caught everything. Forty pages to go, then  have to work on a couple of bear orders. 🙂 <3

Have a super, wonderful, fun day!!!

Birds in the Garden

Cowbird to dove: I was here first, do your worst.

Male house finch with sunflower seed and ready to go.

I saw a Baltimore Oriole the other day. I love them, but he was in one of my neighbor’s trees and wouldn’t come to me. 🙁

The one was at the writer’s retreat, the other on my bird feeder. 🙂

Only 5,000 words to write, for word count. But I still have a long way to go to finish the story, then edit it. Still, from 0 to 75,000, not bad. 🙂

Have a great day!

Hurricane Harvey: A Historical Event

We’re fine, high enough that our rainwater is running off and not getting into the homes. 25 inches of rain so far.

We have 4 more days of rain, then the chance drops off to 40% for a couple of days. And then 80% again. I didn’t think I’d ever be glad NOT to have rain. It’s windy today, and the rain is light and that’s finally allowing for some of the water to seep in, but areas are still being evacuated before more flooding can occur with the new rainfall.

This is one of the sheriff’s alerts:

“Riley Fuzzel Rd under SH 99 is closed to through traffic due to Spring Creek over flow. Vehicles can still get onto SH 99 main lanes but not on Riley Fuzzel Rd east or west bound under SH 99. Please avoid that area and monitor local news & emergency service channels for updates.”

Tons of road closures all over. But people are feeling housebound and just have to get out. I took a walk this morning while it was not raining for once, and took pictures of the ponds. They’re elevated, but so deep, except for some trees in standing water, they’re not reaching the roadways.

Schools are closed through Sept 5 now.

Off to write. Our electricity went out for a blip, so I’m hoping that was the only time we’d lose it.

More later…

Ending One Book, Starting Another

It’s never really the end. It’s always the beginning of a new journey. New job, new setting, new people. Hmmm, like life.

Last night someone was shooting off fireworks in our neighborhood. It’s not that I don’t like fireworks, but not THAT close. It sounded like someone had taken a sledgehammer to my windows, just about the time we thought it was going to end and then starting up again. The puppies were terrified. I took them to bed until whoever it was quit playing with their noisemakers. Then I put the puppies back to THEIR beds. They were reluctant. They were sure that the fireworks would go off again. Luckily they didn’t. I didn’t think it was legal to shoot off fireworks in a home development.

Anyway, the worst part is, it’s not even the 4th of July yet!!! I used to sweat it out when my neighbors at the last house would shoot off fireworks when I had dried corn in the fields. I could just see those catching fire and the whole place going up in smoke.

There’s enough for everyone, but we have a bunch of new baby birds, mockingbirds and bluejays, and they’re all fighting over the suet. I haven’t seen baby doves, but they’re also fighting over it.

So the stare down didn’t work, let me try my super bird big wings attempt at intimidation. Be afraid. Be very afraid. And then, just fly off so I can eat MY breakfast in peace. Okay?

Off to work on revising SEAL some more so I can get it ready to turn in.

Have a super day!
