Double Cougar Trouble is Out!

double-cougar-trouble-with-pine-tree-final-900

Trouble doesn’t always come in twos.

Jack Barrington still has an army obligation that takes him away from the woman who had enchanted him when they were both in college, but Dottie Hamilton refuses to marry a man in the military because of the problem of raising cougar shifter cubs in foreign lands and the worry he may be killed while overseas like her cousin was, leaving a wife and three little ones behind. When Jack returns home to see his family and Dottie’s only living relative, her aunt, she convinces Dottie to bring her twins home to see her—and to see him. Jack has two-and-a-half weeks to convince Dottie to wait for him while he finishes his last three months on active duty. And learns the truth. Dottie’s twins are his own flesh and blood.

Dottie has made a lot of mistakes in her life, including providing a father for her children by marrying a man, who turns out to be an arms’ dealer. When Jack returns to her after finishing his army obligation, he’s determined to prove he’s the mate she needs in her life, and he has every intention of being the father to his four-year-old twins. Now the criminal deeds of Dottie’s dead ex-husband have come back to haunt her. And she and Jack and their cougar friends will have to band together to stop the arms’ dealers before they destroy what the cougars hold dear.

Taming the Wild Cougar WEB 05082015

Taming the Wild Cougar is done! And with beta readers. 🙂 I always love it when that happens! Normally, I’d want to publish it soon. But this time I have it on preorder. I also need to work on the print copy.

Cougar shifter, Dr. Kate Parker, is planning her annual camping vacation alone this year. She runs into trouble before she even starts her trip in the form of one wounded, hot cougar undercover cop—or so he says. He’s not going along with just her tender loving care because he came into town as a cougar, and he needs her help to get him back to where he can take up the search to look for an arms dealer, who just happens to be a cougar too.

Leyton Hill slipped into the unlocked, darkened clinic, figuring his luck had just changed. Except he doesn’t plan for the good doctor to be napping in her office. Taking him on her vacation wasn’t in the plan, and taking her hostage, hadn’t been either, but now she’s stuck with him until he can get back to his mission and the chase at hand. It appears the roles have reversed and who’s holding whom hostage now?

So I’ve been working on 4 bear orders for the last two days and working on them. 🙂 Still have a long ways to go. And I’ve got to jump on Covert Cougar Christmas next. It’s a novella, started it last night, didn’t like the idea and so starting over. It’s part of an anthology Alpha’s Unwrapped and my character didn’t sound alpha enough, so need to rethink how I begin it.

Covert Cougar Christmas

Available Oct 20, 2015, but get your reduced price of 99 cents now. It will be $4.99 the week after release. I’ll post more links here once they have the preorder links available. 🙂 <3

I can’t get my laptop to work as far as the Internet goes. Not sure what the trouble is, but it’s frustrating. So I can’t continue to upload anything to iBooks.

sunflower bending (279x640) sunflower ragged (360x640) sunflowers end of the season (360x640)

Sunflowers at the end of the season. Crops cut down. Heat wave in the area. 106 today, 105 tomorrow and then it’s dropping down to 102 for a while. Heat warnings every day. No rain in sight forever. It’s time for a trip somewhere…like to Alaska! I went north to see my son and it was 93 there! When it was 93 down here. Something isn’t right! In Minnesota, they’ve been having our low of 76. I’m on my way!

Have a super great day!!

Having Fun is the Key–Coastal Magic Readers’ Convention, Daytona Beach, Florida

Linda Townsend, her Plum Bear and Me 300x500

Linda Townsend, her Plum Bear and Me, before we went to the Mad Hatter party. Daytona Beach, Coastal Magic Readers’ Convention.

Omigosh, I had the WORST trip out to the convention: ice delays in Dallas, missed flight to Atlanta, flashing silver lights at the Atlanta airport warning that there was an emergency, and apparently someone had set off the fire alarm, and we were afraid we were going to have to be evacuated when our flight was leaving in just a few minutes, and then when I arrived in Daytona Beach, I had a ruined suitcase and had to buy a new one.

The return trip was MUCH, MUCH better. 🙂 <3

But no matter what, I had a blast at the convention. Everyone was super friendly, and listening to the ocean made me wish I was living there year round. When I’m done at a convention, I’m ready to go home. You know how it is, home sweet home. But there I was this morning with the door open, listening to the seagulls and the waves pounding the beach, and it really was hard to leave. I was thinking how enjoyable it would be sitting there writing my SEAL stories. LOL 🙂

Palm Trees Daytona Beach

Okay, I have tons of pictures to show, but for now, this is it. I’ve got to pick up my puppies tomorrow and I have deadlines galore, so I’ll share as I can. Plus, I was still uploading programs that I need on my computer that were deleted when they cleaned my computer because of the virus. Ugh. So I’ve got a million things to get done now.

Have a super Tuesday…it’s too late to wish you a wonderful Monday. 🙂

And a lovely review from Pure Jonel!

http://purejonel.blogspot.ca/2015/02/JaguarPride.html

My Review:

This novel is a fantastic mix of action and romance. Spear writes in a manner that allows you to easily picture yourself standing in the midst of the action. She involves her readers in every aspect of the mission her characters embark on. Spear’s hot bedroom scenes leave you drooling. This all makes the unique and unforgettable plot of the story shine through. This author’s fantastic storytelling and fluid writing style top it all off.

This author has definitely nailed shifters as characters, creating a brilliant cast for this novel. She makes these shifters so very real. Not only is it easy to imagine how these individuals can exist among us without our knowledge, the individuals that we get to meet are just plain intriguing. Both the male and the female leads are strong individuals who embrace every part of who they are. They were also fun, approachable people that I truly wanted to read about.

This was a fantastically unique novel that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to other lovers of the supernatural, and of romance with a twist. It can just as easily be read as a standalone or as part of the series.

Still trying to get everything up and running on my computer, and my data usage alert said I was going into the dungeon. Well, not really, but that’s how I equate it. No more Internet, and if I can write a note in blood to try and get it out to someone on the outside, we’ll be good. 🙂

Can you tell I love to make up stories!

Because of the puppies being so sick, no collar training for Max for two days. I figured he’d forget everything he’d learned, but he was really good. Also, I have it on a setting of 3 instead of 5, 7 being highest on the Low button. And he’s minding. But will he still remember everything when I’ve been gone for 5 days?

Anyway, got to get to writing. Spent all day yesterday trying to get my computer back up and running, and I still haven’t finished, and I’m behinder and behinder–yes, it’s a word. My word. As an author, it’s perfectly acceptable to make up our own words. Really. So anyway, I had not planned on writing while at conference, but I might have to. *sigh*

Have a super great day! Mine is much better! Puppies are playing again. Max is relegated to his bed and not my desk chair because he gets up, and then down, and then wants back up, and then backs away when I want to put him up, so figured it was time for him to go to his own bed. And he looks so sad.

This is what I would call tough puppy love.

Hope your day is the greatest!

An impossible mission…

JAG Special Forces agents Huntley Anderson and Melissa Overton are hot on the trail of poachers when they’re suddenly saddled with two jaguar shifter cubs. They have to locate the parents, pronto-but who’s going to babysit in the meantime?

A lifetime of possibilities… Huntley is a rough, tough jaguar shifter and an all-business agent, but he’s not going to let two abandoned youngsters come to any harm on his watch.

Seeing her super-manly partner try to get the playful cubs under control stirs up some unexpected desires in Melissa, and she begins to feel like Huntley’s not the only one who’s in over his head…

Excerpt from Jaguar Pride by Terry Spear:

Melissa had never had a mission that had turned her world so upside down like this one had. She always had a plan. Maybe not a great one, but she always had some notion of what she was going to do next. This. Was. A. Disaster!

Not only was she feeling highly agitated and concerned about the jaguars the poachers had taken off with, now believing they had to be the parents to these two cubs because there couldn’t be that many shifters in the park at one time, she didn’t think, she worried how they’d care for a couple of baby jaguars.

And Huntley. What an all-around catastrophe, though she was thanking God that the cubs were all right and that at least she and Huntley had been here to care for them in the interim. And that Huntley would be fine. She thought.

The mother had to have smelled that jaguars had slept here, knew they were shifters, and hoped they’d take care of them. The problem was that the babies would be nursing, not adding meat to their diet until they were three months old. They had to get them back to their lodge and then Melissa had to get milk for them, pronto, even though mother’s milk would have been much preferred.

Melissa was so rattled, she had begun to take care of Huntley’s head wound out of instinct, not realizing she’d cleaned it, administered an antibiotic, and bandaged his head before she even knew it. She called her boss right after that.

“Martin, we’ve got a terrible problem.” She explained everything that had happened, and as worried as she was about Huntley, the cubs and the parents, she felt chilled to the core.

What if any park rangers came across them and found them with the cubs? They’d take them away from them and then take them to a facility. And she and Huntley could be arrested for trying to poach the jaguar kits. What if the mother shifted, which would cause the cubs to shift, and they were suddenly two little human babies?

This was a real nightmare of epic proportions.

“Okay, Melissa,” Martin said, and she didn’t realize he’d been speaking to her for some time when he said, “Melissa?”

Breaking through the fog in her brain, he repeated her name and this time she said, “Yes?”

“Listen to me. I’ll have a team there within thirty-six hours tracking down the mother and father, if the ones taken are the mother and father.”

What if they weren’t? What if the mother and father were somewhere else? No, they couldn’t be.

“Your mission, and Huntley’s, is to get the cubs to your cabana. Keep them hidden and safe. Feed them. Nurture them. Protect them at all costs. Watch Huntley. Make sure he’s all right. If his condition deteriorates—”

“He’s unconscious!”

Silence. Then the cubs began to snarl again as if she could feed them!

She felt Huntley’s cheek again, but his temperature was fine and his breathing normal.

“Yes, but we heal quickly. If that changes—he begins to get feverish or shows any other sign of infection, let me know at once. You should pack up your gear and move to the cabana tonight.”

“Huntley’s unconscious!”

A pause.

“Yes. Melissa, listen. You need to move the cubs under the fall of night. You’ve got to get them out of the park before anyone sees you with them. You’ve got to get them to your cabana before morning. I hear them in the background. They’re hungry. They’re going to give you away if anyone’s about. I hear it’s raining also. Good cover. For now. It won’t last though.”

Thriller Paranormal – Supernatural | Romance Paranormal

JAGUAR PRIDE is fantastic! Author Terry Spear weaves her magic and takes her readers for an action packed, race through the jungles. I loved Hunt and Melissa and their mixed up lives and enjoyed watching as they came to slowly realize that they were perfect for each other. Having these single people deal with those cubs was funny and really sweet because not to long before they did the “never having cubs” conversation and anyone could see they would make perfect parents. I also got a kick out of the matchmaking play that had gone on behind their backs and couldn’t help but laugh at how they found out about it. There is a lot of action and camaraderie between them and other members of the different teams that come to help rescue the poached jaguars as well as the growing romance that makes this book one that you will want to keep reading to the end and then want more. This is in my TRA (to read again) shelf and I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one.

Okay, puppies were sick ALL day yesterday. They seem to be doing well today, but I’m still cleaning all the bedding they threw up on. My watch is now repaired. I just got my computer back and everything is wiped out, so except for finally getting my blog up and running, I have nothing on my computer, so need to try to really get it up and running. My heater was not working, but it appears to be now.

And…it’s time for me to go to conference. Oh, and my editor called about edits last night, just as I was rushing a sick puppy out the door.

So not only am I 6,700 words behind on SEAL (which, considering I was 14,000 words behind, that’s not bad, and now have edits on Silver and a trip to take… *sigh*

Have a super great day. I need a vacation. 🙂

Giveaway at Reading Between the Wines

Kissing the Highlander final (438x640)

I’m still formatting for Kissing the Highlander. When I received everyone’s novellas, the italics were stripped out, argh, and some of the authors have tons of italicized words. That, and trying to make everything uniform as far as front and back matter and section divisions, etc. If I do this again, hopefully, we can all be on the same page next time and I won’t have to do so much reformatting.

Phantom Fae

Phantom Fae has gone out to my first beta reader. And then after I make changes and read it over again, it will go out to another.

But what I really wanted to say was that I am here with a giveaway!!! Go to Reading Between the Wines, comment and enter for a chance to win A Highland Wolf Christmas!

Highland Wolf Christmas-300 (390x640)

http://www.readingbetweenthewinesbookclub.com/2015/01/behind-author-terry-spear-giveaway.html

And now I’m off to get to work on the formatting again. Feeling anxious because the time is slipping away and I need to get started on the next SEAL wolf book due Mar 1. And I haven’t started it. I’m trying to come up with a great new opening scene to set the stage. Must have first meeting soon, show something of the world, a wolf sighting early, conflict, mystery, romance and adventure.

When I was reading books on writing, one author said to make sure you have that conflict right from the beginning. The bomb going off in the school, but not. Something that makes you want to read what happens next and next and next. Yet, you have to have character-driven plots for romance, not strictly plot-driven scenarios.

Okay, so I’m still pondering. But I need to get back to formatting Kissing the Highlander.

Have a super great Tuesday!!!

And be sure and drop by at Reading Between the Wines and enter to win!

Why Do People Do the Things They Do???

I was in the grocery store right before Christmas and the lady in front of me was talking to me about getting in the wrong line because the people in front of her had all kinds of issues. I didn’t know what they were, but we were smiling and laughing about that sort of thing. One day, I was in line behind some folks that had to run out to their car and get a jar of coins to help pay for their groceries.  So yes, it can be trying.

But I wasn’t bothered by it. I was getting the last of my Christmas food for the kids’ arrival and was of good cheer. The old woman behind me was scowling and I smiled at her, trying to put her in a better mood. She asked, “What time is it?”

I told her. She asked two more times.

Then the folks ahead of us were done, but not, forgot to pay for one more item, and the lady in front of me and I were just smiling. Hey, it happens, and I was fortunate to have someone to talk to that was really nice and it made her feel better for the delay.

Once I had my items on the conveyer belt, I put the little divider down and turned to the woman behind me and asked if she wanted me to help her unload her groceries.

“No!” she snapped at me. “Just move out of my way.”

“I’m sorry, but the lady in front of me is still paying for her groceries.” And I turned my back on the woman behind me and figured that was the last I’d try to be nice to her. Some people are just not very nice. They’re sour and dour and maybe they always lived their lives that way. Some think as they get older, they can behave even worse.

Who knows?

But she proceeded to get aggressive, running into my backside with her backside to load groceries onto the belt. Now, she could have gone to the end of the belt and loaded a good number of groceries on it without touching me.  But I didn’t move, because my basket was in front of me, and I didn’t want to crowd the woman who was using her credit card in front of me. I wished her a Merry Christmas and then I was cheerily talking to the clerk. She saw my puppy stuff and asked me about that as she ran my things through and the woman behind me just scowled at us.

I was bothered by the old woman being so nasty. I kept telling myself to ignore her nastiness, but I couldn’t.

One time, I was in the parking lot and an older man looked so grim, I smiled and said, “Hi.” It made his day and he began talking away to me. Another day, I asked an older man if I could take his basket for him, and he watched me, shocked that I was taking it to the return and not using it to go into the grocery store. I had just returned my own. But he looked to be struggling to get his groceries into the car a bit, and I thought I could help him at least with the basket return. He told me he thought I was going to use the basket and was so cheered that I did a “good deed” for him. Another day, a woman did that to me, my first time, lol, and she asked if she could return my basket too.

It really made me feel great. Doing a little bit for some people can really make their day, though I’m in Texas and so it can be so here. Or Oklahoma, same way. I had car trouble at a mall in NJ once and three lovely men from England helped jumpstart my car while no one from NJ would give me the time of day. I was twenty-one at the time, so not a threat at all. Not that all are like that, but some places more people are willing to help out.

And this brings me to my stories. The Phantom Fae queen had killed her husband over some marital dispute. But at 5 this morning when the puppies got me up to take them out, I began to think about it. What was her story? Her real story? People are the way they are for some reason. Maybe they’ve always been bad-natured and been allowed to be that way. Pampered, so to speak. Or maybe they had a bad life growing up, they just had something horrible happen to them, financially, losing a family member, a friend, a pet, or are ill. We never know.

Phantom Fae

But in our stories, we have to know. 🙂 So, I had to come up with a reason. Maybe not a full reason, but something that will reveal some hints about the person.

Why was the woman so nasty in the grocery store even after I reached out to be nice to her? Who knows. I’ve known people like that, one who was an older friend of my mother’s and lied about her husband dying. For years, we thought that was the case. Then her cousin told my mother that the woman’s husband had left her for another woman. I think that had left her embittered. She could never deal with it, so just wrote him off as dead. For her age, because even though divorce has been going on for eons, it just hasn’t been as acceptable in some time periods, she found it much easier to be a “widow,” than a divorcee. But she was really spoiled, her ex-husband having left her well off, and her family too. So I would go with my mother and her friends to card games and she was always so nasty. “Quit talking! Play the game.” The point of the game was to socialize, at least the rest of us thought. We had fun and joked about her behavior later.

My mother would often say, “Oh, it’s not your turn?” One lady always played out of turn because she couldn’t remember. They were fun games and well, someday I should probably use them in a story, come to think of it.

A little after the grocery store incident, a fan sent a video of a woman at a grocery store where another woman allowed her kid to run the basket into the other woman. So the victim poured a drink all over the kid’s head. The kid screams and cries. The mother is furious and storms off with her kid, and I’m thinking, okay, so what if this woman behind me was that kid. Only the victim hadn’t reacted, like I hadn’t. Just ignored it. And the kid continued to act badly over the years, and anytime she wanted her way, she got it, through any means available.

If I had dumped one of the Dr. Pepper’s on the woman’s head that I was buying for my SIL for Christmas, maybe she wouldn’t have done something like that again. Of course, I would have been arrested.

So that’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Have you ever had to deal with grocery store bullies???

And Savage Hunger is still free!!! Off to give my phantom fae queen a reason for being so evil. 🙂

Stand Alone Titles vs Series

When I start a book, it’s standalone.  My wolf series started with Heart of the Wolf. I LOVED writing about wolves as shifters based on real wolves, but with romance and adventure, mystery and humor, and all that good stuff. Now, I wrote Heart of the Wolf, loving it, but when we write, trying to get a book published, that’s another story. However, publishers aren’t looking for standalone titles. They can’t build readership that way. And authors need readership. But if we can’t sell the first book in a “series,” why write a series of unsaleable books?

I was determined to sell a wolf book though, because I loved the idea. So I started writing Destiny of the Wolf.  They’re different wolf packs, same world, but don’t meet. So I solved the problem with writing a series that I couldn’t sell, sold Heart of the Wolf, and then added a mystery wolf who is in the first 4 standalone wolf titles. You see, I never knew if my publisher would keep buying the wolf tales.

I like standalone series myself. I like to finish a book and know it’s finished, and I love reading about characters I loved in the other stories who now get stories of their own. The same with my readers. I think I’ll write a story, some will like it, and the book won’t catch on, but I don’t intend to write more of them, even if I love the story. Then I get so many requests for more, I have to write them. And I love it.

In the books featured below, this is a series within a series. Again, who knew it would happen? Not me. But my first book about the Navy SEAL wolves was To Tempt The Wolf. Then A SEAL in Wolf’s Clothing, A SEAL Wolf Christmas, and next year, SEAL Wolf Hunting.

Again, it’s like I had more characters that came to life and needed their own story. I read a blog where an author doesn’t like writing series. Granted, they take more effort. We have to remember details from earlier books, and if you have so many series going at the same time as I do, that can be a real challenge. But I want to write for my readers. And if that means I write about characters that readers have fallen in love with, I’ll do it. Case in point in the SEAL stories. Hunter, in To Tempt the Wolf, has a very annoying sister. But so many of my readers wanted to see her story, I had to write it. And A SEAL in Wolf’s Clothing was born. Everyone wanted to see who could tame his sister. I had a ball, and that was my 9th book and it made USA Today Bestseller.

SEAL Wolf Hunting

A SEALinWolfClothing SEAL Wolf Hunting

To Tempt the Wolf

To Tempt the Wolf: His love has the power to transform… or destroy…

A SEAL Wolf Christmas

A Christmas paranormal romance with the hot combination of a sexy Navy SEAL hero with werewolves, from USA Today bestselling author Terry Spear.

So I write standalone titles every time. Truly. But sometimes, oftentimes, they turn into series. 🙂 <3

What about you? Do you enjoy reading: Standalone titles? Standalone Series? Cliffhanger Series where you have to read them in order or you’re totally lost?

Have a great Tuesday! I finished writing Phantom Fae and now am working on edits! 🙂

Cougar’s Mate: Instinct told her to run…

Shannon Rafferty learns that hanging out with the bad boys could be a dangerous business, but hooking up with a cop is even worse. Now she’s on the run, trying to avoid being murdered by his cougar shifter brothers and uncle. If that isn’t bad enough, a deputy sheriff hunts her down while she’s running as a cougar and trying to survive in the Colorado wilderness. He vows to protect her no matter what she’s done. With three dead boyfriends to her name, she’s sure she will be the death of Chase Buchanan before either of them can prevent it. No matter how much she knows she has to run again, he soon holds her heart hostage. But will that be enough to keep them both alive?

Chase Buchanan—as wilderness cabin resort owner, former US Army Special Forces, and part time deputy of the small town of Yuma, Colorado that boasts a love of cougars—is tasked to track down a cougar reported to be hunting human prey. Chase soon learns she’s a shifter, not a full-time cougar, and she’s on the run. When he takes her in, he vows to protect her. After losing his wife and baby to the human kind of predator years earlier, he’s not letting Shannon’s hunters kill her, too. But how is he going to hold onto the wild-cat woman, who is unpredictable at every turn, without losing his heart to her, and then losing her as well?

Call of the Cougar: Looking for love can be dangerous…

Special Agent for the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife Services, Tracey Whittington, takes down wildlife traffickers and more, but what she doesn’t expect is to be in a shootout, multiple times, when the business turns deadly. Nor does she suspect she’ll be working with Hal Haverton, who serves as a part-time deputy for Yuma Town, Colorado, and runs his own horse ranch. As long as he doesn’t stop her investigative work—she has been placed on administrative leave due to the last shootout—she’ll be just fine.

Hal Haverton has every intention of keeping the wild cat safe, even if it means helping her to solve the case when every time he turns around, she’s involved in another shootout. When her boss asks their good friend, the sheriff, to have one of his deputies serve as a bodyguard for the cougar shifter, Hal’s all for it. So is the other deputy, but Hal’s got this covered. Even if getting somewhere with the lady means having his gun ready at all times. There are definite perks to getting to know the Special Agent better—if they live long enough to do something about it.

The title will be available on the other sites probably by tomorrow. I’ll update as I get them.

And the new windows and redone wall for the front foyer. As you can see in the picture of the before–it’s really foggy out. Perfect for vampires.
