Sunny Sunflowers!

The autumn variety is my daughter’s, the greener one is mine. I did plant some of the autumn colored ones also. I have a whole bunch coming up from my birdseed too. Silly birds. They’re supposed to eat the seeds. But I can’t wait to see the sunny sunflowers. They’re always like sunny giants in the garden.


Yesterday, I spent the day editing Billionaire, so I didn’t get a lot done on You Had Me at Cougar. But at least I managed a 1,000. I wanted to get to 40,000 yesterday no matter what.

We had a fun Memorial Day, grilling hamburgers, little one playing with her parents with a splash pad–93 F so it was perfect. I took pictures of them, the baby sleeping next to a fan and was perfectly happy in his enclosed sleeper so that he wouldn’t be bothered by bugs. He can sleep through all the dog barking and little one squealing. I wish I could sleep like that at night! I managed to get some pictures of a blue dragonfly. Love them. And some of my daughter’s flowers and a honeybee. With her being pregnant, she didn’t plant any seeds this year and these are all from seeds that propagated themselves. I have a lot like that also. She said she left the sunflower seed heads out there for the birds, but apparently they didn’t eat the seeds. lol

As for watching what I eat, I didn’t eat the tater tots, mayonnaise on my bun, or the grilled pineapple with brown sugar coating. I did get some birthday cookies delivered and I was NOT going to open the box. If I had known they were there, I would have taken them to our party. But my WW friend asked what was inside. It was like opening Pandora’s Box. As soon as I saw a chocolate chip cookie, I had to have one. But only one. In the past I would have had several. I figured I’d go over on points and gain, but I went way down. I ended up losing 4.2 lbs for the week. So this week, I start over today and I’ll keep on with what I’m doing and hopefully it will continue to work. I already feel better.

I was going to walk this morning before it gets too steamy and when I took the dogs out for the second time, I found it was pouring rain! I’m glad. We’re supposed to have a chance of rain all week, but I really didn’t think it would happen since we had a much higher chance on Saturday and it never rained. Everything has dried out because of the heat.

I’m off to re-read Billionaire and hopefully turn it in today. Have a great day!!! Mine has started out really great!

Don’t you love the beauty of nature? The summer flowers are flowering in winter.

I won’t be able to write for 3 days, sigh, but I’m nearly to the halfway point on SEAL Wolf Team to the Rescue. Hopefully, I can finish it this week!

It’s like writing a Macro Novel. A novella. So much fun.

Winter Flowers Blooming!

Okay, not really. These are summer flowers still blooming! Whoever heard of a sunflower coming out in winter? And the marigolds are just as vibrant. In fact, even the milkweed are regrowing their leaves. But they will get a rude shock soon. The temps are dropping to freezing, but then up again in the 60’s. Even the honeybees were back, all over the roses yesterday, and I’ve seen more monarch butterflies and one of the yellow ones!

I’m still working on edits on Claiming the White Bear before I finish writing scenes. Moving a couple situations earlier in the story really made a mess. But I think I’ve about got it all sorted out.

In and Out of the Garden

Red petunias in a window flower box, orange devil’s paintbrush, yellow bird’s feet trefoil, blue lupine, pink roses, and wild sunflowers.

The wildflowers and garden flowers are fully in bloom, giving the whole landscape an artist’s painted view.

I wrote a little, but haven’t really had a lot of time. We walked 3.9 miles up and down stairs–176 steps down to the water at Split Rock Lighthouse, but took the long, scenic way around back up.

Off to have more fun! It’s been hot and everyone says I brought the heat here. lol

regular sunflower 004 (900x600)The sunflower is getting ready to burst forth!!! I need to have my camera ready before Tanner tries to eat it too!

Macro tomato and crepe myrtle 010 (900x600)AND!  I planted this volunteer crepe myrtle in the tomato planter box after they were all done. And look what shot up in the middle of it!!! A tomato plant! And two more, but this one has gone to town. I’ve looked at this growing crepe myrtle daily, trying to figure out where to plant it, so I swear the tomato plant suddenly appeared out of nowhere today when I went to take a picture of the crepe myrtle.

Okay, really, really late. I had to ship bears, and I’m losing my day faster than I can allow!

It’s a novella, started it last night, didn’t like the idea and so starting over. It’s part of an anthology Alpha’s Unwrapped and my character didn’t sound alpha enough, so need to rethink how I begin it.

Sunflowers at the end of the season. Crops cut down. Heat wave in the area. 106 today, 105 tomorrow and then it’s dropping down to 102 for a while. Heat warnings every day. No rain in sight forever. It’s time for a trip somewhere…like to Alaska! I went north to see my son and it was 93 there! When it was 93 down here. Something isn’t right! In Minnesota, they’ve been having our low of 76. I’m on my way!

I nearly missed this. Every morning, no beautiful sunrise, and this morning it was even more brilliant than this. Ran the puppies inside and ran back out with the camera, but the sunrise was already fading. Still, it was interesting with the sunflowers looking on, don’t you think?

The Sunflower and the Bumblebee–Fun with Macro Lenses

Bumblebees are aggressively territorial. At my other home about a mile from here, I couldn’t step out my front door without one dive bombing me in the summer months. They’re big, and even though I’m a lot bigger, that’s still unnerving.

So here I was, trying to capture some macro shots of the sunflowers before the season is over, and I get really, really close to the flower, too close, look to see what I was capturing, ack, the bumblebee is back. Sooo, I quickly stepped back a bit, and took several shots.

The sun behind the flower makes it appear almost translucent, the shadow of a stem showing right through it.

The sunlight was behind the flower, so it made the bumblebee and flower dark. I had to lighten them to show the details. It’s better to take the pictures in overcast or lower light, but bumblebees don’t appear on schedule, so, I took my chances and it gives it a different look anyway, and that’s fun too.
