Spring is Filling the Flowerbeds!

I have to keep pulling the weeds, but at least some of the stuff that looked like weeds proved they’re not and are now providing a flowery showcase. The fuschia-colord phlox is so pretty right now and lilies are about to bloom, wild clover, and sunshine ligustrum. Hopefully, the ligustrum will start to really grow a bit! It’s supposed to be 6 feet tall and it’s just maybe a foot tall. Some of the ones in the back are about five foot now. And one in the front is 6 foot. So maybe this one is going to be a runt of the litter.

When I lived in Oklahoma, I had this color of phlox and redbud trees and their flowers are the same shade of pink-purple. It looked like I was a master gardener and had planned it that way. lol I’d never had either plant before, so I was amazed at how beautiful the combination was.

Okay, I’m off to work on Bear in Mind. Have a great day!!

Feeling Like Spring

With it’s volatile weather. One minute its 78 degrees and the next, 33. It’s at the low end today. I want to garden. Well, when I’m 100% well. But I need to concentrate on writing. I only have 13K words to write to get minimum word count. Yay!

I have only 3,000 words to write to catch up, still need my 2,000 words today though too. But that’s down from 11K so doing good!

I wanted to feel like spring, so created the picture above, but now it’s back to the Highlands!

Annetta Sweetko Reviewed for Fresh Fiction! Love your review, Annetta! YOU HAD ME AT WOLF is the first book in Terry Spear’s “Wolff Brothers” series set in her wolf shifter-run Silver Town. For me, YOU HAD ME AT WOLF is evocative of some of my favorite books, films, and TV shows of the 1950s and 1960s like Agatha Christies book THE PALE HORSE, the film CAST A DARK SHADOW, and the classic British spy series The Avengers. With private investigator and wolf shifter Nicole Grayson, Terry Spear has created a heroine like The Avengers’ Emma Peel who is cool, competent, and kickass.

YOU HAD ME AT WOLF is a winter wonderland of adventure and plenty of wolf-on-wolf wooing. I loved the supporting characters in YOU HAD ME AT WOLF and I’m eager to read more about them in future books especially Nate and Kayla. I look forward to Terry Spear’s next paranormal romance.

Have a beautiful day!! If I get my word count in and another 1,000 or 2, it will make my day!

Brrr It’s Cold out There!

I reached over 4,000 words yesterday–76,000 to go, and man, we had a 40-degree drop in temperature and it was rainy all day. It was nice, really. If I’d dressed warmer. I kept thinking it was going to warm up! With a rainy day and blustery wind, it was chilling! I must look at the weather forecast more often.

These are pink gerbera daisies (filled with rainwater), yellow coreopsis, and red ranunculus (buttercup). What’s neat is that they’re all perennials. Like my stories, they keep coming back, keep growing, and are beautiful. Well, at least the flowers are. lol

It’s still cold! But I bundled up better today. The dogs won’t go out without me and I’m rushing them to do their business. At least it will warm up soon, and it isn’t as cold as the blue north. I think my friends in Minnesota and Chicagoland and all those other cold places won’t ever get out of the deep freeze. Sending warm wishes to melt the snow!

Have a great one! Back to the story. 🙂 <3

Will the real grape hyacinth please stand up? These were all supposed to be grape hyacinths. The packages lied. 🙂  I think two out of all of them really are purple. 🙂

Waiting for the tulips to bloom. I’ve never tried them before. They’re getting ready!

Fog and Rain and One Shrub for All Seasons

Fog

Fog

We’ve had some gloomy days where it looked like this all day, perfect for writing spooky stories, don’t you think?

Raindrops on Berries

And I had to run out and get some shots of raindrops dripping off berries.

Okay, so got my seasons out of order, but you get the idea! I couldn’t sleep, so got up to do my blog during the free Internet time. I’m always running out here.

Have a lovely Wednesday. Making a little progress on The Viking’s Highland Lass. It’s halfway done!

I’m writing about fog in the story.

Shadows: Jet Airliner

I thought of Steve Miller and Jet Airliner when I was writing this blog.

But when I was flying, it’s usually dark, early morning, or late evening. Today it was early afternoon, and for the first time, I caught sight of the shadow of the plane racing across Texas. I thought it was so cool, I had to take a picture. My battery was flashing and I knew I was running out of battery power, but when we went over the lake, I wished I had gotten one of that too. Instead, I just enjoyed watching it skim over the water and got a picture of it flying across the trees down below.

Don’t you think that’s pretty cool? Or am I the only one who sees things like this and is intrigued?

Have a wonderful day!!

It’s Easy Being Distracted…Really

Two Butterflies in Symphony--one the Tawny Emperor Butterfly, the other, I think it's the same, just different coloring

Two Butterflies in Symphony–one the Tawny Emperor Butterfly, the other, I think it’s the same, just different coloring

I was out pulling bur weeds, but they’re just too extensive, and I have a million other things to do. So I found my weed killer and started spraying them, realizing too late it’s also a grass killer. Sigh. But the weeds are so thick, and the grass isn’t able to grow where they are, so hopefully, I only killed the weeds.

But look what distracted me. I was in the middle of working on the whole back area where I take the puppies to potty, and they’re going to be carrying the stickers around in the paws and fur. So need to clean this all up. And I saw the variegated privet full of butterflies. Yesterday, I noticed the flowers had all budded out and they smell similar to jasmine, heavenly. But today, they were covered with Tawny Emperor Butterflies. They love rotting fruit, and so when my pears are on the ground, that has attracted them to my wildlife reserve. 🙂

I took a lot of pictures, but this is one of my favorites because it caught two with the wings spread, different coloration, in a faceoff.

Have a terrific Friday!

So Close…

6S7D0358 (640x587) copy mini roses cluster yellow roses in bloom (2) (427x640)

The miniature roses are in bloom!

I’m so close to the end of word count, but the way it always happens is I end up writing about 7,000 or more words as I’m finishing up the story. 🙂 But that means rereading and rereading to make sure that I catch all the changes I’ve made as I’ve gone along in the story, and explain any loose ends. And flesh out some of the scenes. Like in one, they were talking. And talking. And talking. Which is really important. But, I needed to have some action and show something of their surroundings while they’re talking so that the reader still feels grounded in the story. 🙂

So things like that start to add up word count, but at a much slower pace. Which is why I still haven’t reached it, but am getting there. 8900 words to go.

It always amazes me when I start a new book and I have Chapter 1. That’s it. The title. And somehow get to THE END.

Off to whittle some more of the word count down. I can’t wait until I have really written the end, and can read all the way through for just enjoyment.

Have a super great TGIF!

Pear Blossoms

5500 words behind, but we had puppy group training last night. Max was the smallest dog there among 3 german shepherds, another large dog and a blue tick healer.  He barked at one of the dogs at first, but then settled down and we had a really great session for our very first group session with dogs there! 🙂  We wound around other dogs and their owners, greeted other dogs and their owners, walked in formation behind other dogs and their owners. All an exercise to keep the dogs under control while not being distracted by other dogs. He did really good on the round about stuff, greeting other owners, but when we had to walk past the dogs and their owners, he was pulling away a bit into the grass to get away from them. Following them or leading them he was fine with. But it’s our first session, so he’s doing great. 🙂 <3

Off to whittle down some more of the mss.

Happy St Patrick’s Day!!

I’m wearing green. Are you? 🙂
