Time for Wolves

Playing around with a composite–bokeh (created with taking a picture where only the colors of the flowers in the sun were visible) and melting pocket watches are my photos, and the other clocks are free on Pixabay, the wolf from Depositphotos.

I was disappointed last night to learn that I had thought I was 8,000 words ahead of the game, but I’ve dropped down to 5,000. I had been at 7,000 for sure. I guess I lost track when I was sick. Sooo, I need to get that 7,000 lead again. 🙂 <3 I like to get ahead of my goal in case things happen that put me behind and then I’m still ahead….confused yet?

Have you noticed that a lot of movies lately, more so than usual, are constant flashbacks? Constant. We’re in the present, then living a scene in the past, fast forward, fast backward, fast forward. In writing, it makes it confusing, so if something is really, really important to the story, I try to show it in the beginning of the story. It’s okay to mention it, but actually taking the characters, and you, back constantly, can be jarring.

Most of the time I can follow a movie story line when they do that. My dad absolutely couldn’t watch movies like that. He’d be totally lost. But I was watching something that really confused me the other day. I thought it was in the past, but it was in the present again. That’s the problem with time traveling in the middle of a story–constantly. 🙂

But now??? It’s the present and time for the wolves!

Have a wonderful day! I know what I have to do!!!

New is NOT Always Better!

Have you ever thought that? You get used to doing something a certain way, perfectly content with the way that you were doing it and without your permission, someone changes it??? (Oh and by the way, you had to learn this way in the first place and that took some time to figure out?)

Sometimes, the powers to be are good about it–they ASK you if you want to update. Sometimes they don’t. And they just DO it. Sometimes you think, sure, it’s new and improved right? And you soon learn it’s a nightmare to handle.

That happened on my email program. Change to this cool background. Okay, click of a button. But after that, there was no going back. My emails nested. I couldn’t write in response to emails sent to me right on the email, which really helps when I’m commenting point by point without copying and pasting their whole message to my email. Finally, there was a way to UNnest the emails so I didn’t have this problem. But there were complaints all over the boards about it. The problem is if you’re in groups where you talk about stuff, you’re supposed to trim messages. With this new and IMPROVED email version, we couldn’t do it.

Anyway, WordPress changed something for the better, and I don’t know if I agreed to it and forgot, or they just changed it, but I didn’t like it and they gave me the option to go back to the old way of doing things.

Sometimes the old way is the best way. Sometimes I can’t wrap my brain around a new way, since I’m always learning new ways to do a million different things, and I just don’t need one more new way to do something that is working well for me.

Do you ever feel that way?

hot labor day (640x427) 2

Here are some pictures of my hot Labor Day. Isn’t this beautiful?

I’m surrounded by cornfields that look like these on three sides. The one in front of me has been cut, but guess what my neighbors were doing for Labor Day. Shooting off fireworks.

Shaking head.

dragonfly, sunflower (640x427)

Why did the dragonfly have to be sitting on top of a cornstalk that was right in front of a telephone pole? I couldn’t move to take the picture because he flew off as soon as I did. But I still thought it was a cool picture, him pausing on the tip of a cornstalk. Next time maybe my model will stay put so I can move around and get a better background. Or, I can show it as just a slice of life–telephone pole and all.

scissortail and sparrows (640x427)stretch

Do you see the scissor-tail flycatcher on the lower right? The sparrows are on the upper left. I’m not usually able to capture one in a picture.

cardinal in piracantha (640x450)

Here is a cardinal in the piracantha. I was watering the new shrubs and that always makes the birds jittery, particularly since my neighbor was also shooting off firecrackers.

But what I had seen that was so cool were four sparrows clinging to the cornstalks. I wanted a picture of them. But when I ran back to get my camera and returned, they were gone. It was the first time I had seen them actually doing that. The rest of the time, I’d just see them fly off.

So instead, while I was watering, with camera in hand, I got pictures of the dragonfly, the beauty of the sky and the cornfields, the scissor-tail and the cardinal.

dove piracantha (640x526)

Oh, and a dove in the piracantha. It’s a wickedly thorny shrub, but the birds love it. Nice and protective

Well, I’m back to word count, caught up on student lessons, and I’m still keeping up on word count, behind on bears. 🙂 <3 But I did cut out two more last night. 🙂  I have 6 bears ready, just need to embroider their paws. 🙂  But that takes time too.  And somehow, I’m always running out of it.

Do you ever find that too?

Okay, back to writing!

Some Mornings Are Just… Slow

Or… the time is fast and I’m just slow. Now when I was working at the library, sometimes the time went really slowly. 🙂 It’s all relative. When I’m waiting on a repairman, the time goes slowly. When I’m trying to finish up a bunch of projects, the time goes by way too fast.

Have you ever noticed it’s the same way when you’re on your way to something? If you have all the time in the world, you have no traffic, hit every green light, and are there way too early? But if you’re running late, you get behind the tractor trailer that is moving at 10 mph and no way to get around him, and you reach town and EVERY light is against you? EVERY single one? Now what are the odds?

So, I woke at 4, wrote a 1,000 words, and it’s already 8??? How in the world did that happen?

I could give you all the boring details–Story Finds was kind enough to contact me and tell me that I was featured on their site with my 99 cent sale for Taming the Wild Highlander, so I had to share that with the world. That meant Facebook, and then I was on there catching up with all the comments. Then I had to Twitter. Okay, I’m not a big twitterer. Yes. It’s a word. Because I said so. And then I post on Twitter, follow their site, and see the block saying: If you have a free or cheap read to share, share it here, and I was hooked. Sooooo, when you do that, another and another and another, and so on, pop up. So I was happily Twittering away. Hopefully, I didn’t do it wrong. I never am quite sure about it. 🙂 Maybe I should take lessons. 🙂

So here is Story Finds Link, and they did a beautiful job. Thanks!

Okay, then I had to answer a million emails. Yes, overnight fans and friends and many others email me when I’m sleeping. Can you imagine? Why aren’t they all sleeping?

And then I was playing around with my full moon shots, okay, so that wasn’t EXACTLY essential to my morning routine, except that I wanted to share them on this blog. I’ll do it tomorrow though. Today is a shout out about Taming the Wild Highlander going on sale because it’s only for a day. Or, at least that’s what I planned. One day. It was picked up by ENT Book of the Day, you see, and that’s a great boon, so it’s coming out on Jan 22. That’s the sale day. So why is it on sale now? I had to reduce the price to ensure it WAS on sale for the sites by that day.

Edana Chattan senses concerns where people she knows could be in danger. When her brothers warn her they’re in trouble, she can’t convince her father to listen to her, so with an escort, she tries to locate them. Separated from her escort during a storm, she is discovered by Angus MacNeill, who is tasked to return her home.

Only Edana has other notions–and convinces him and his companions to allow her to use her abilities to locate her brothers who are manacled in a dungeon somewhere. That leads to a faux marriage and more dungeons and more trouble than Angus had ever thought possible. So why is the bewitching, fiery-haired lass making him think of marrying her for real?

Do you remember when I said that some times you are ahead of the game and then you’re even more ahead, but other times you’re way behind the ball and you’re never going to catch up?

That’s it! If I had changed the prices a day before, they wouldn’t have gone into effect until two days later. Murphy’s Law. But by changing them the week before, voila, instant success! An hour later, the 1-day sale is a go. Wrong day, a week early.

And that’s okay. I hate it when I see a sale that I missed because I was working or didn’t get the word until too late. So you get to enjoy it and I’m happy.

Now, as to my day that is slipping away before my very eyes, I’m off to make up for it. 25,000 words left to go on Jaguar Pride! Maybe about 2+ weeks to write on it, and it will be finished. Not all the way, but written, in any event. It’s due Mar 15, so that’s good. Then I’m off on another project! Keeps me out of trouble.

Okay, got to show off the full moon. Do you see the white light directly above it? That’s the North Star.

So, do you ever feel that your day is running away from you when you don’t want it to, and won’t go away when you do want it to?
