Raging Rhino

I don’t know what happened to make the rhino charge us, but I was glad we had a “glass” barrier. I was just hoping it would deter him and he wouldn’t crash into it.

But it made for a beautiful picture, don’t you think?

I want to write 8,200 words again. I’d be happy with 5,000. I should be glad I’m managing 2,000 words a day.

I finally finished the project out front in the garden. 101 degree heat factor, horrible. But it’s done.

Off to write. Have a fun day, and whatever you do, don’t rile those rhinos, ‘k?

Rhino Charging

What do you do if a rhino charges you? Take a picture! Selfie? Who said run away?

There was only a handful of us quietly watching the black rhino when he suddenly charged us. Then he realized he couldn’t get to us and he went off quietly to do his thing. But it made for a great picture. A couple of people moved back ready to run, but he really couldn’t get to us.

I don’t think.

I finally finished reading the first 26,000 words of Billionaire She-Wolf, so need another 54,000 for word count and I’m off and writing!

The schools were closed due to flooding yesterday, and so Keira stayed home. Thankfully, because I got a little bit done and she and her mother are sick. I don’t need to catch it too.

Have a lovely day!

The Jungle Ride

I love animals, so I wanted to go on the jungle ride and see the animals. They had really long waits for it, so we got a fast pass for it.

We were on a moving bus, so I was snapping photos crazily, hoping to get some good shots. They said they wouldn’t stop. But they did pause a couple of times. They had cheetahs, but they were so hidden, I think I only got some ears, and I haven’t found them yet, lol.

The woman behind us said to her husband, “Where are the animals?”

He replied, “Haven’t you seen Jurassic Park?”

Yep, they’re not on a schedule. The animals, that is. 🙂

Did You Know…

We’re going to have way below normal temperatures for June? July, below temperatures, and August, we’re on the border of the temperature thingy.

So say meteorologists. If they were werewolves, they’d know the truth. But since they aren’t, I’ll forgive them. How can anyone predict the future? That far out?

How many times have you heard the World Health Organization say there’s going to be a pandemonium of flu-related deaths? To brace for the worst flu season of the century, and then it doesn’t come to fruition? Or that we haven’t had a big hurricane season, and this is the one, and then that year we have fewer than ever before?

rhino and vulture (640x427)

My friend and I went to the Cameron Park Zoo and saw the turkey vultures resting on top of the rhinos, hoping for a meal. She thought the rhinos were dead. I assured her they were not! Just sleeping. We had to stay there until the one twitched. 🙂 <3

One year, we had the worst drought ever, and ever, and ever. It was 110 degrees every day for weeks. UNBELIEVABLE. We couldn’t get a break. NO rain on the horizon. Predictions were we wouldn’t get rain until the next March. Oh, no, we’d never survive. We were on severe water restrictions. And then, in September, we began to get rainstorms. Thank God for lousy weather predictions!

Hippos Bathing (800x356)

These hippos were cooling off in a little mud hole at the Houston Zoo. Now, tell me honestly, does the mud bath make them look prettier?

So though I would LOVE to believe the predictions for a cooler summer for June and July, I’ll believe it when I see it. We’ve already had near 100 temps in March and April, and then with all the rain, that we didn’t get earlier, and got all at once in May, and so who really knows what’s coming???

I see….putting hand to brow and peering at the horizon over the cornfields….heat on the horizon, and lots of it. Why? Because that’s what we always have. Prove me wrong. I will love it!

Do you see the future?

Happy Memorial Day!!!

Focusing on the Interesting…

Rhinos Bathing

In writing, it’s fun to compare and contrast things–people, objects, places, settings, to make them different, more interesting. Here is a case in point: Rhinos can be plain… boring. If they’re just… standing around. Doing nothing. But when I was at the Omaha zoo, the rhinos were bathing and it intrigued me. It was near freezing out at Thanksgiving time in November, so it seemed ironic that they would take a bath, not to cool down!

Before this, I was visiting the Waco zoo, and this is what I found–rhinos sleeping. So??? But it was the turkey vultures perched on top that intrigued me. My friend, who was with me, told me the rhinos were merely statues. I told her no, they’re real. She couldn’t believe it. We watched for a long time, until she saw one’s ear flutter. And then satisfied they were real, we moved on.

Rhinos sleeping vultures (800x390)

And here is further proof that the rhinos are alive and well in Texas. It was feeding time at the zoo.

rhino (792x800)

Finding something interesting in a setting is like writing about something interesting. We want to focus on that–and not on the mundane, or it will make our pictures, and our writing just that–mundane.
