The Jungle Ride

I love animals, so I wanted to go on the jungle ride and see the animals. They had really long waits for it, so we got a fast pass for it.

We were on a moving bus, so I was snapping photos crazily, hoping to get some good shots. They said they wouldn’t stop. But they did pause a couple of times. They had cheetahs, but they were so hidden, I think I only got some ears, and I haven’t found them yet, lol.

The woman behind us said to her husband, “Where are the animals?”

He replied, “Haven’t you seen Jurassic Park?”

Yep, they’re not on a schedule. The animals, that is. 🙂

[Note: Vaughn and Jillian are gray wolves. Howard is a jaguar shifter]

Chapter 8

“Let me get this straight,” Vaughn growled at Jillian. “We are working together on solving the crimes committed here, right?”

Howard laughed. “I’m sure glad I’m with the two of you. I don’t know when we’ll ever solve the case, but it’s sure entertaining to see how we’re going to go about doing it.”

Jillian’s jaw was set as she opened her car door. “Sure. We’ll start with examining the cabin for any evidence of foul play. Together.”

“You said you didn’t think your brother was guilty of any crime. So why not talk to him?” Vaughn couldn’t help how furious he was. If her brother wasn’t guilty of anything, they needed to clear this up pronto. If he knew something, even if he didn’t think he did, they needed to learn of it and see if it led them in the right direction.

“Listen,” Jillian said, getting out of the car and placing her hands on her hips, “he’s my brother. He might have talked about anything, thinking he was having a private conversation with family—me, his sister. I had to let him know I wasn’t alone. That if he needed to tell me something, he also needed to know others were listening in to the conversation. It was up to him to decide if he wanted to talk in front of anyone else. Apparently, he didn’t.”

“Which means he could be damn guilty.” Vaughn pinned her with a glower.

She took off for the cabin. “I’m not the bad guy. Neither is my brother.”

“If he is, you’re covering for him, whether you believe he’s guilty or not. Hell, maybe you were the one who did it.”

Jillian whipped around, her mouth hanging agape. “You think I tore into Douglas now?”

“Maybe you got there first before your brother did. It’s only your word that you arrived at Douglas’s cabin after someone attacked him. Maybe your brother shows up and discovers what you did. Being a protective brother, he warns you to call Leidolf to take care of him so you’re not accused of attempted murder. You do. He leaves, but returns well after Leidolf’s men have taken an injured Douglas and the evidence away,  to see if there’s anything else left behind. Before he could leave some evidence that muddied the waters, I caught your brother standing in front of the blood left behind. Maybe you’re right. Miles had nothing to do with it. Maybe he’s helping you cover up that you did it.”

Her eyes were wide in disbelief. “What about you!”

Vaughn nearly laughed. He hadn’t expected her to accuse him. He didn’t believe she had injured Douglas either. But he wanted her to realize that by covering for her brother, she could be suspect.

“Yeah, you! Who says you didn’t wound him? What if you did it in the heat of an argument over some old pack feud, hadn’t planned it, and then you took off to get cleaning supplies to take care of the mess? I arrive, find Douglas in bad shape and call Leidolf for help. After we left, Miles arrives to see his friend and finds the blood on the floor. Miles ends up getting some blood on him, if that really happened. Who says he really did end up with blood on his muzzle? We only have your word that he did.

“So after you injure Douglas, you return to the scene of the crime, and unexpectedly come face to face with Miles at the cabin. He smells your scent, and he realizes you’re the one who injured his friend. Miles takes off, certain you’re going to kill him if you can catch him. He’d be the perfect patsy all tied up in one neat little package. Now you can’t dispose of the body, most likely believing Douglas was dead, because I’ve already gotten help for him and removed him from the cabin. And you can’t hide the evidence like you’d planned because Leidolf’s men have already gathered it and taken it away. You have to silence the witness though. And you’d have to take care of Douglas too before he comes out of his coma. You call Leidolf to tell him you’re going after a suspect. Then you go after my brother to take care of loose ends.”

Standing on the deck, Howard was smirking, waiting to see how this all played out.

In real life, conflict isn’t fun, but in literature, you have to have it. 🙂

Baby fell asleep while I bounced her on my lap and put out the newsletter. So I’m off to work on a promo blog due already, and hope you have a chance to pick up SEAL Wolf Undercover, and LOVE it!

Years ago, I went to Disney World, and in the few times I’ve been, I didn’t really use a camera much. Today, I see so much more. Not just the rides or other cool stuff, but the wildlife, sunsets, and storms.

In Flight of the White Wolf, I talk about how he’s changed his view about the world, instead of hiking and not seeing half there is to see, just counting steps, to becoming a wolf and really seeing all that the world has to offer. We just have to stop and look and see. 🙂

Have a great one!!

Never be so foolish as to fall for the enemy…

Special wolf agent Jillian Matthews has joined the jaguar-run United Shifter Force to track down a deadly criminal. She’s even willing to work with PI Vaughn Greystroke―until the hot, growly SEAL wolf makes the mistake of getting in her way. Naturally, she shoots him. Who could blame her?

Vaughn Greystroke has always worked alone. But when a string of attempted murders puts him in the crosshairs, teaming up with the Shifter Force begins to sound like a good idea. Even if he has to work with alluring―and potentially treacherous―Jillian Matthews. Vaughn is a trained SEAL, after all. He can surely keep his distance from Jillian…no matter how much she’s getting under his skin.

Unraveling a mystery always makes for a great plot. It’s how an author weaves the story that creates an experience to remember and Ms. Spear found a unique hook that I totally could get into.

When Jillian shot the hero, Vaughn, not only was it totally unexpected but once he figures out just who shot him, the sparks start to fly. What I found fascinating is there were so many people shooting at one time or another, I could never figure out who was the criminal. Who really was against whom and just who were the bad guys and where’d they come from and why in the world were they in this little town anyway? Then to find out not only who they were but WHAT they were just sucked me into the adventure. There was so much to find out in this novel that it was easy to keep flipping the pages into the wee hours of the morning.

And limited time! 99 cent deal!!!

Brett Silver, model wolf citizen, donates a grand piano to the newly remodeled Silver Town Hotel. What most people don’t know is that he has ulterior motives; he’s actually interested in getting closer to the owner, the beautiful she-wolf Ellie MacTire. As they wrangle over the piano, and deal with mysterious guests who are causing trouble throughout the town, Brett questions how one gift could turn into something so complicated—especially when he thought it would win Ellie over for good.

So our neighborhoods have a neat social network and sometimes you can find things you’d like or can give away or sell. I bought a lovely bookshelf that way. But last night, late, someone posted about irises they were giving away that they had thinned. So I looked it up, and she was in my neighborhood, but it was late last night, and so this morning early, I walked to the mailbox near her, but didn’t see them.

She posted that they still hadn’t been picked up. She is a plant lover, and like me, the idea they would just be thrown out is awful, so I said I was headed that way again, and I set my GPS. It was dark this morning so I hadn’t seen them. But I found them, and now, I have to plant them!!!

I had so many in Crawford, I just loved them. But when I moved, I only had one that I took with me, and loved it.  I tried to grow some this spring, but only one made it, and it hasn’t bloomed yet. So maybe, these will and I can show them off later.

This was the one that I had back in Crawford.

Okay, off to work on fae some more! 🙂 <3

Wild Seals Close Up–La Jolla

The seals won! In a battle to keep the seals off the beach in La Jolla in San Diego, (I have to admit they do smell), so that people could enjoy the pristine beaches instead, the seals’ advocates won.

So there, you can get up really close to wild seals, while they swim on their side of the beach, and people swim on their side. Don’t be surprised though if the seals don’t know which side is theirs. 🙂 <3

Seal pup and mom, and pup alone. I used one of the pictures to create the castle scene. 🙂 <3

Excerpt from SEAL Wolf Undercover by Terry Spear

Jillian couldn’t believe that a lupus garou could be trying to kill her brother. The wolf chasing Miles had to be a shifter. She knew he wasn’t running with Miles for fun. Not with the way her brother had howled, calling to her for help. If the other wolf had been in trouble too, he would have howled along with her brother No, he’d been hell bent on Miles’s trail. Worse, she worried he could be the wolf who had nearly killed Douglas.

She ran through the woods to track where the wounded wolf had gone once he’d finally veered from her brother’s path. Wild wolves had been sighted in Oregon, so at first she’d thought it might have claimed the territory and was chasing Miles out of the area, or worse, planned to kill him. When she couldn’t scare him off with the first three rounds she’d fired, she was certain he was a shifter. She found drops of blood collected on vegetation, the light rain already diluting it, and followed them to the river where the trail ended.

In the misty rain, she glanced in the direction the river was flowing, and thought she saw a wolf’s head bobbing up and down in the water. She couldn’t be certain, considering the conditions: the water was dark, the object was far away, and the day was overcast.

She continued to watch until whatever it was disappeared beyond a bend in the river. Her heart pounding, she ran in the direction of her cabin, hoping her brother was there and could tell her what was going on. If she didn’t need to hang onto her rifle and cell phone, she would have shifted and run as a wolf. Much faster that way.

She was glad the wolf was no longer chasing her brother, but she did hate that she’d had to shoot him. With their shifter ability to heal faster than humans, he would be fine in no time.

As soon as the cabin came into view, she hurried to the front door, unlocked it, and called out to her brother. He didn’t respond, and she didn’t hear him in the back bedroom. She stalked back to the room, but he wasn’t there. Why wouldn’t he have come here? Unless he was afraid of bringing the big, bad wolf to their doorstep.

For now, she had other business to take care of. She left a message for her brother, telling him to call her at once, that she was working with some jaguar shifters. And that Douglas was in dire straits after someone attacked him. She would be staying at the red wolf pack’s ranch part of the time. She considered trying to track down her brother as a wolf, but with the other wolf wounded and leaving this area, she figured Miles would be okay for now.
Teaming up with jaguars was something totally new for her. Never in a million years would she have believed she’d be working with a combined force of jaguar shifters and a wolf; and with another, if they could solicit his help. On the way over to her cabin, Leidolf had informed her about a hardcore Navy SEAL, also turned PI —and from what she’d read about his profile, a loner in his investigative work—who was in the area and was also investigating the attack on Douglas. From a photo Leidolf had sent to the team, he was one hot looking specimen of a wolf and single, though she just happened to notice that information by chance. And he looked a hell of a lot like the guy she’d seen at the Kitty Cat Club in San Diego. The good Samaritan. That meant he had been a wolf all along. She should have known.
She quickly packed a bag and left to join the shifters at the cabin nearby to meet up with the SEAL wolf, hoping she’d hear from her brother soon. She also put in a call to Leidolf for an update on Douglas’s condition.

***
Vaughn bobbed up and down in the icy water, thankful his wolf’s double coat protected him from the chilling cold. He had to take care of his wound first, hoping it wasn’t too bad and he would heal quickly enough. He was certain the gray wolf couldn’t have suddenly armed himself with a rifle, so he was still running as a wolf, and that meant Vaughn could try to find his scent again. What if he had an accomplice? Maybe that’s why he howled. To get help from a wolf shifter friend or pack member who would shoot Vaughn instead of coming to his aid as a wolf. The shooter wouldn’t have been some random hunter then. A marksman lying in wait while Vaughn tried to take down the wolf seemed too damned convenient to be mere coincidence.

***

Okay, so how did I come up with this idea? I wanted to include jaguars and wolves in this venture–and a hot SEAL wolf. That was it. At the end of the previous jaguar book, A Very Jaguar Christmas, I had mentioned trouble in Portland, Oregon, where a red wolf pack lives. I hadn’t mentioned them in a long time, so I wanted to set the story there. And I wanted to have jaguars causing trouble for wolves. I wanted an exciting beginning–but I wanted it to be sexy. But it had to include both jaguars and wolves. But it also had to focus on the romance between one couple. And it had to have shifting. And romance. And conflict.

I’d watched a show about treasure hunters stealing from each other in deep sea dives. The wolf series is so long running, that every one of them has to be different from the rest, and I’d never had a treasure hunting story before. So after much writing and rewriting, I finally decided to make treasure hunting at the root of it.

And that’s how I came up with SEAL Wolf Undercover!

Preorders available now!

Loving the White Bear–Print Version Approved!

Finished proofing Loving the White Bear! I approved the final version. The print version should be available soon! https://www.createspace.com/6918350

loving-the-white-bear-generic

Rob MacMathan and his brother and a friend run the White Bear Wilderness Adventures Tour, White Bear, where polar bear shifters have staked a claim. This is their last tour group of the season, but when photojournalist, Alicia Raycroft, touches Rob and envisions what he sees, though her paranormal abilities deal with psychometry, whereas he’s clairvoyant, they’re both stunned. He witnesses a fight with an enraged grizzly; she sees a polar trying to eat her, which he interprets to mean he’s wearing his polar bear coat and trying to save her. In no way can he reveal the truth to her. Yet, just that connection between them pushes them to go beyond his self-imposed boundaries with both a client and a human.
Alicia is fascinated with Rob, not only because he’s rugged and handsome and just as interested in her, he intrigues her like no other man has ever done when her touching him reveals he has abilities like she has. She envisions a white bear coming for her as snow swirls about her in the Alaskan wilderness, yet she’s determined to take this trek even if it’s her last. She believes fate is predetermined and nothing she will do can change the outcome anyway. Alicia and Rob are already headed down one dangerous path, so why not risk a chance at love too? Only he has more dark secrets he’s unwilling to share
