It’s Time to Finish This Now!

Do you ever find yourself taking all kinds of pictures and never really having the time to stop and look at them? Do anything with them? Do you ever open the file and take a closer look and see the beauty you couldn’t before?

Elephant eating, turtle reflecting, snake watching, lemurs hiding.

Do you ever find yourself writing all kinds of stories and never really finishing them? They have great beginnings, and maybe great middles, but you never…finish them?

Do you ever start on a project and never quite finish it?

Sometimes it doesn’t take all that much time to stop, look over whatever you’ve been working on, and do something with it. Something fun and creative and ultimately fulfilling because you finished it.

On the other hand, maybe what you thought was okay, really isn’t, and it’s time to just get rid of it. I caution not to, though. It’s amazing what new insight, even years later, can help you to make a project shine.

I’m 20,000+ over word count and still writing the now Neverending  Story!

Have a lovely day! Babysitting day for me….

Flamingos and Koi

Flamingo and koi (640x427)

Flamingos and Koi, Milwaukee Zoo

Okay, I KNEW my flamingos were not as brightly colored as the ones at the Milwaukee Zoo. When I saw the ones there, I was like, yes! That’s the color they should be! And you can see the koi swimming nearby.

So is this a different pink variety, or is it all about diet?

I love getting pictures of koi, which are beautifully colored. These all came up looking for a feast. They remind me of my puppies.

These I caught on the perfect day. It was just light enough, just shaded enough, that the pictures look surreal on this fall day.

Because of boarding the puppies for so long while I was in Milwaukee and New Mexico, they get a free day spa. That means a day of play and baths. So after they got me up at 4:45, they’re sleeping, little monsters, but that will change soon. I’ll take them in as soon as the place opens, they can play, get their baths, and I’ll pick them up. And while they’re away?

I can write. 🙂

Have a super great hump day!!!

Did You Know…

We’re going to have way below normal temperatures for June? July, below temperatures, and August, we’re on the border of the temperature thingy.

So say meteorologists. If they were werewolves, they’d know the truth. But since they aren’t, I’ll forgive them. How can anyone predict the future? That far out?

How many times have you heard the World Health Organization say there’s going to be a pandemonium of flu-related deaths? To brace for the worst flu season of the century, and then it doesn’t come to fruition? Or that we haven’t had a big hurricane season, and this is the one, and then that year we have fewer than ever before?

rhino and vulture (640x427)

My friend and I went to the Cameron Park Zoo and saw the turkey vultures resting on top of the rhinos, hoping for a meal. She thought the rhinos were dead. I assured her they were not! Just sleeping. We had to stay there until the one twitched. 🙂 <3

One year, we had the worst drought ever, and ever, and ever. It was 110 degrees every day for weeks. UNBELIEVABLE. We couldn’t get a break. NO rain on the horizon. Predictions were we wouldn’t get rain until the next March. Oh, no, we’d never survive. We were on severe water restrictions. And then, in September, we began to get rainstorms. Thank God for lousy weather predictions!

Hippos Bathing (800x356)

These hippos were cooling off in a little mud hole at the Houston Zoo. Now, tell me honestly, does the mud bath make them look prettier?

So though I would LOVE to believe the predictions for a cooler summer for June and July, I’ll believe it when I see it. We’ve already had near 100 temps in March and April, and then with all the rain, that we didn’t get earlier, and got all at once in May, and so who really knows what’s coming???

I see….putting hand to brow and peering at the horizon over the cornfields….heat on the horizon, and lots of it. Why? Because that’s what we always have. Prove me wrong. I will love it!

Do you see the future?

Happy Memorial Day!!!

Only 2 More Blog Stops!! For Silence of the Wolf & A Black Bear and Vulture Friends!

I’m at Sia’s Thoughts over Coffee today for another chance and have one more on Monday, and that’s it! 🙂

black bear coming toward us (640x427)
A black bear and his turkey vulture friends.

And I just completed Matheson Clan Bear triplets for another order and will be shipping them today!
Matheson bears (640x239) (2)

In previous posts, I’ve shown the turkey vultures surrounding the lion and lioness as if they were part of their royal court. And actually perched on top of a rhino that was sleeping. I’ve never seen the bear up and moving around. And I’ve never seen the turkey vultures in his exhibit. So see? They might not be the greatest pictures as far as photography goes, but as far as subject, pretty cool, don’t you think?

black bear side vultures (640x427)

I managed to get to 27,000 yesterday, despite being on a LIVE blog tour from noon until midnight. And I should make my goal by the weekend of 30,000, maybe more.

If you have a chance or the inclination, drop by Sia’s blog and comment for a chance at a win!

Have a super great TGIF! 🙂

Oh, and I’m from the bear state of California, and I’m researching grizzlies in Montana for A SEAL Wolf for Sale, and I saw the bear at the zoo, so what do you think I had a nightmare about???

Colorful Koi on a Perfect Fall Day…

Everything came together for me when I took these pictures, the soft lighting on an autumn day, the fall leaves coloring the bottom of the koi pool, the movement of the fish and the water, the reflection of the trees up above. When I uploaded them, I found some looked like paintings, surreal, fantasy, fun.

I love when that happens, like when I’m writing and a story finally begins to take shape when I’m moaning and groaning about how I can’t figure out where to go next with my story–remind me when I start the next book and have the same concerns–and then…it’s like the picture all comes together. Or at least a part of it. A scene or two. A chapter. The End.
fish looks like a painting (800x533)

I tend to get a lot of backsides of animals when I visit the Cameron Park Zoo or others, but I still loved the detail and color of the fish in this shot.

koi colorful (800x533)

This wasn’t the best picture, but I loved the character of it–the way the fish all came up to look at me, wondering if I had food for them.
koi looking at camera (800x533)

I’ve tried since to capture the beauty of the koi and the green trees reflected in the waters, but I’ve never had the ideal conditions that I did that one day.

But then again, I finally caught the howler monkeys in perfect form the last time I was there, when I’d never managed before. So when one subject doesn’t want to cooperate, find another. Sometimes I have to do that with my writing too.

He Looks so Sad

Zoo with coyotes barking 039 (640x427)

But he has lots of play things, and a female to harass, but here he is looking sad as he peered through the fence at me as I took his picture. They’re taken care of, immunization wise, food wise, and play with them for enrichment.

They even have a doll for the female to take care of before she has a baby.  She wears her pink blanket all the time. I thought she WAS the baby. LOL But this is the female and the huge guy above is the male.
