Koi Art

Koi in Hawaii.

Yesterday was fun. I ended up walking 5 miles, but look what I saw at one house! House breakers! It looks like they got stuck and they didn’t make it very far. 🙂

I only managed about 600 words on Warrior Elf. Way too many other things going on, but we had fun and that matters too.

Hope your day is great! I’m hoping to knuckle down today and write until I pick up my granddaughter and then get back to it. It’s supposed to rain all day. We’ll see. 🙂

No More Vacation–Time for the Real World

Returning home means reality sets in! Writing daily goals, taking care of the dogs (I spent hours combing out Max yesterday and need to work on Tanner today), WEEDING the flowerbeds, have three bear orders waiting on me, etc.

Koi at the arboretum in MN, a sleeping fairy at my friend’s house, and then my gardens: zinnia flowerbed, golden zinnia, and the lilyturf (liriope)’s purple flowers are blooming, and purple magic crepe myrtles are in full bloom.

Last night, I was working on one of the flowerbeds out front after getting my word count and grooming Max, and man was it awful. Not only was it still 103 heat index, dripping wet humidity, but the mosquitoes were ravenous. I covered myself in insect repellent, but apparently not well enough. So when they found my ankles, I was trying to kill them as fast as they were landing. Not fun. And finally gave up, making a hasty retreat to the house.

But I was determined to do it again this morning because I have 7 flowerbeds out front filled with zinnias and weeds. I finished the one from last night, another out front that was filled with weeds, and 2 that weren’t bad. My hands hurt–the weeds and grass roots are dug in all the way to China, and I was soaked from the high humidity, so came in and will try for the last 3 beds tomorrow. They are really bad too. If it hadn’t been so hot and humid, I would have just stayed out there and finished all of them. Hate not getting something done. But…at least 4 are done! I kept thinking if only it was 59 degrees out. That’s what the temperature dropped to this morning AFTER I left Minnesota!!!

Reached 21,000 words yesterday on the new story! 59,000 to go!

As you can see, I still have to take my pictures. lol

I’m off to write! Have a wonderful day!!!!

Wildlife at the Arboretum

When I think of arboretums, I think of flowers and other kinds of gardens. We saw a Japanese garden, hosta woodland garden, fern wooded garden, herbs, vegetable, and fruit gardens, shrub gardens, and tree gardens, ponds, and many different flower gardens, waterfalls, ponds, and bubblers, lakes, marshy swamps, and more.

But we also managed to catch geese (which I didn’t download, will have to do it tonight), chipmunks, squirrels, a DRAGONFLY! (I’ve been trying to capture one my whole trip), a wild turkey! (that was a surprise), a squirrel, a monarch butterfly on an orange coneflower, and koi.

We walked 5 miles at the zoo the day before yesterday, and 4 miles up and down hills in the heat and humidity yesterday at the arboretum. So we’ve been getting a good workout every day.

I autographed books at 3 Barnes and Nobles.

Oh, and I managed to get to 17,000 words on the new book!

Off to breakfast! Have a wonderfully wild day!

Colorful Koi

Majestic koi. Ancient Koi. Artistic Koi. Midas-touched Koi.

If you were to look at individual pictures, you could tell a tale: Koi searching for truth (food), Koi buddying up, Koi creating a u-turn, and gnarling up traffic.

Yes, yes, so I should stick to my other story! Back to My Highlander. Five-thousand words left to go to reach NaNoWriMo. (National Novel Writing Month)

Baby was over all day yesterday, and so I didn’t get much done!

Have a lovely tall-tale day!

Bear Cave Much Better Place to Be

black bear (640x364) (2)It’s really important that I stay in my bear cave to finish the edits on this book. 70 pages to go. 130 done. BUT, it’s essential that I get some papers notarized, scanned, emailed, and fedexed. We’re under 2 flood river warnings and 1 flood river watch. The two are already a couple of feet over flood levels. I tried to run in last night to a post office to do the notary, but the roads were soooo badly flooded, I had to turn around, not sure I could even make it back. In retrospect, I wished I could have taken a picture, but I was too busy trying not to get hit or flood my engine.

I kept saying if they’d send the paperwork earlier, even a couple of hours earlier, we would have been fine. Nope. Had to send them in the middle of the downpour and by then, it was already too late.

So I’ve been trying to figure out another way I can get this notarized…a place nearer by will do it, IF they can even make it into work. It’s a non-essential type place so they might not. And IF I can even make it over there. We have continued rains for several hours. I can’t do anything until businesses open up at 8:30-9. So until then, I’m back to the bear cave while the thunder and lightning continues, and the rains keep coming down.

ducks and koi (800x733)The ducks are probably laughing when they see all these cars stopped, trying to figure out if they can make it on the flooded roads. Lights flashing, they sit there, not sure what to do. Try to make it? Stall out their cars? Wait the storm out? The storm and the flood waters are not going away any time soon. Maybe tomorrow? But we have heavy rains through the weekend. Tow trucks have been out in numbers, towing cars stuck in the floodwaters.

I had to turn around while I watched a couple of other higher road vehicles plow through the water, the wet stuff as high as their headlights. I have a Ford Escape, the new models lower than the older ones, so the water was up to my headlights before I even reached the point where the water was even higher.  I didn’t want to risk it. Vehicles riding lower than mine were in a real quandary.  Two Suburbans sailed past me, idiots, not because they could, but because they were driving 10 mph over the speed limit as if to say ha! They could do it. There have been tons of accidents on the highways this morning, mostly due to the wet roads and flooding.

So I have to figure out this dilemma and figure out how to get it done without drowning myself in the process.

Hmmm, it sounds like the stuff for stories.

It’s Time to Publish!

koi colorful (800x533)A picture of koi at the Waco zoo, I took a few years back is still my favorite!

I worked from early in the morning until late last night on Golden Fae, and today, I will be formatting it with Vellum, but it is only available on Mac. So I convert it there, upload to Apple, which is only accessible also on Mac, and then I mail the files for the other venues to my PC, and upload everything to the other sites. Then wait for the book to be available. Ha!

tomatoes, frog sculpture, puppies 001 (640x427)My green bell peppers are just sitting there. Maybe they’re a little taller than before. But they don’t seem to be.

I keep working. I worked on the print book all day yesterday, proofed it and the ebook/mobi version again, and so I’ll be working on uploading the print book after that. I also need to make the print book cover.

And then? I’ll be starting the next wolf story due to my publisher in July. Though after I do all this, I REALLY need to go to the grocery store!

But first, I  had to say good morning, y’all! And then I’m off to work!

No time to celebrate! As soon as the book is available, I’ll drop in and offer all the links. Preorders are wonderful, but they also bind me to a date. I didn’t want to do that this time. 🙂 <3

Have a delightfully, fae-mischief free day!

Koi, They’re Everywhere…They’re Everywhere!

On final read through of Alpha Wolf Need Not Apply, but I was on my laptop settled down to do the read, cold, rainy, and I was taking a break and found pictures of koi at the Houston gardens and wanted to share.

Flamingos and Koi, Milwaukee Zoo

Okay, I KNEW my flamingos were not as brightly colored as the ones at the Milwaukee Zoo. When I saw the ones there, I was like, yes! That’s the color they should be! And you can see the koi swimming nearby.

So is this a different pink variety, or is it all about diet?

I love getting pictures of koi, which are beautifully colored. These all came up looking for a feast. They remind me of my puppies.

These I caught on the perfect day. It was just light enough, just shaded enough, that the pictures look surreal on this fall day.

Because of boarding the puppies for so long while I was in Milwaukee and New Mexico, they get a free day spa. That means a day of play and baths. So after they got me up at 4:45, they’re sleeping, little monsters, but that will change soon. I’ll take them in as soon as the place opens, they can play, get their baths, and I’ll pick them up. And while they’re away?

I can write. 🙂

Have a super great hump day!!!
