Wolf Takes the Lead–Discount on Preorder–Barnes and Noble

USA Today bestselling author Terry Spear combines billionaire and shifter romance in a sexy, action-packed paranormal love story with a dash of fake dating.

Billionaire wolf Derek Spencer may have a rocky history with she-wolves, but there’s no one better to take as his date to the latest gala than the wolf he’s had his eye on ever since she applied to be his bodyguard—the remarkable Kate Hanover. Kate checks all the boxes for his perfect mate: she’s smart, sexy, and business savvy, not to mention one of the best bodyguards around.

But ever since Derek gave his bodyguard position to another wolf, Kate has been avoiding him. It’s only when she reluctantly agrees to be his date to the gala that she realizes why: the attraction between the two alpha wolves is undeniable, but Kate doesn’t want to end up as one of the billionaire’s many flings. The more time Kate and Derek spend together, the more they are in danger…of falling deeply in love.

Will the wave reach them? Or not?

I’m working on an author interview, so off to finish it up. I reached 62k on Bear in Mind yesterday.

It’s very cold today–36 degrees for us. Flowers are beginning to bloom!

I’m off to get my work done. Still fighting this cold after 2 1/2 weeks. Ugh.

Hope you all have a delightful day!

Capturing Reflections

Storms in the middle of the night. I saw where we were supposed to have them, but it’s always a toss up whether they come to fruition or not. They did. We had an inch of rain.

Little one will be here before I know it! I started a pot roast and we’re going to stay in today! Except for picking up big sister. But if the weather reports are true, we’ll be having terrible thunderstorms and wind this afternoon again so we’ll be driving today.

I love capturing reflections! Eight turtles in a row–two little babies together.

Okay, off to get some more stuff done before little one is here!

Have a wonderfully reflective day!

Turtle Day

We walked really early again to feed the turtles so that we didn’t get hot. It was cloudy out, but the yellow irises beside a different pond I wanted to take pictures of had faded. sigh. I did get some distant shots of herons, so hoping some had turned out.

This is a picture of the red slider turtle that wasn’t interested in the aquatic food, but he was much more interested in us. He came right up, scared my granddaughter, and she lost her water bottle in the pond. So I had to retrieve it. No trashing the pond. But she cried because she’d lost it. I had a bottle of water to share with her.

But she had sat down on the cement, snacks and bottle of water out, ready to have a picnic when the friendly turtle came right up to us and she panicked. I was hurriedly grabbing her snacks, her backpack, she’d knocked over her water bottle and I couldn’t grab it as it rolled down the semi-steep incline. He was just so interested in us. It was so cute.

And that was our turtle adventure! Today, we had a ton of turtles come up to see us. No pancake turtles today though.

Pancake turtle from last turtle day adventure.

Okay, have to figure out what to prepare for lunch!

Have a fun day!!

Taking a Nature Walk

Little one and I had a lovely walk, though it was hot and muggy. One of the ponds I know has turtles, but we can’t ever entice them to come to eat. So we went to another one where no one feeds them, and saw that some of the fish are getting bigger and some small turtles came to check us out. They didn’t know what to do about the turtle food we were tossing out to them. Then finally, one of the baby turtles started eating them and three others joined him.

We walked around the pond some more to feed turtles that were farther away and finally made it halfway around to where there were bigger turtles. They were the same way. They weren’t sure what we were doing, but they figured out we were going to feed them. But it looks like someone’s hand feeding them. So they came right up to us and the food was all around them on the water and on the pavement next to the water. They finally started eating the food, and I got some pictures.

Turtles coming up to be fed.

And someone had made up two little roly-poly crossing signs, lol, on the path. We did see one as we were walking. Did you know they are not insects? But isopods.

Armadillidiidae (the scientific name for pill bugs) have so many different names to chose from, for instance:

  • Armadillo Bugs
  • Doodle Bugs
  • Wood Lice
  • Potato Bugs
  • Roly-polies

I was going to have little one play in the sprinkler afterward because we were so hot, but she wanted to eat hot dogs and then lie down and watch an animated feature. I’m thinking, if it’s not sizzling out, I might pick her up after errands this morning, and make her walk the half mile to my place. But I’m afraid I might have to carry her part ways. So maybe I’ll walk down with an empty stroller. I’ll have to check the weather though. 82. Hmm, and thunderstorms after that. So I’ll just have to see. I’m taking her overnight again, but after that, I need to write, so Grandma needs a break.

I took more pictures of the kids last night and then I had told my granddaughter we could go outside to look at flowers. I’d forgotten, after we had eaten. She hadn’t. lol My daughter only has one growing–a zinnia. I have tons of different flowers–some zinnia coming up from seeds last year, marigold also, roses in profusion, daylilies blooming like crazy. Asiatic lilies, coneflowers, salvia, gerbera daisies, mums, dianthus, phlox, and other flowers. I love it when the perennials come back in full bloom and the annuals reseed themselves making them practically perennials.  I was out gardening one day when a dad was walking with his little daughter and we said hi, and he told his daughter, that’s the lady with the flower garden. That was nice. And every year, it gets to be fuller and more beautiful.

So I went out and took a picture of the one flower my daughter had and then my granddaughter showed me the clover growing in the yard, so I had to get low and take pictures of it. I have two kinds–one is the good stuff with white flowers and variegated leaves, the other clover has burs, yellow flowers, and solid green clover leaves. I have to pull those up before the burs drop and they’re in the dogs’ fur. It’s a constant battle.

Hope you all have a delightful day!! I need to run my trash out, feed the dogs, and get going this morning!!!

Slow Turtle Day

Yesterday was a turtle day for me. I usually get so much stuff done, but yesterday, I got my word count, and did a synopsis for the Night of the Wolf, but not for White Wolf to the Rescue. I need to do that this morning. And I didn’t get anything done on the bears, though I didn’t care for the one bear fabric I cut out, so I ordered 3 new ones and hopefully one will work. The baby I’m making the bear for has red hair, so I picked up 3 reddish furs. I used to always have them in stock, but I finally used the fabrics up and then I was having trouble finding ones similar.

And I have little one here longer today, so I need to get my word count done earlier. She’s so cute. She really wants to help me with the bears. What can she do? Help to stuff them. What does she want to do? Sew on the sewing machine. lol

Okay, so today no matter what, I need to get groceries–no milk and haven’t had any for days. I spent all day yesterday doing edits and writing. It was too cold to go out. I know my northern friends are laughing at me, but…

I was doing research of some kind, can’t remember what now, and I came across an article about putting twin preemies into the same incubator so that they would thrive. Numerous cases have shown this really works. That the babies cuddle together and provide comfort to each other. I’ve read where they’re used to hearing each other’s heartbeat and that helps to make them feel like they haven’t lost their twin. Do you think it’s like puppies who are inconsolable when separated from their litter mates at first? And then one of my friends was sharing where one twin came five days before another. Now, I’ve written where one came the next day, like minutes apart so they had separate birth dates, but five days apart? Can you imagine trying to explain how your birth date and your twins are that far apart?

In the case of my great aunt and grandmother who were twins, they disagreed until they died as to their birth date, one saying it was one day, the other saying it was two days later. When I was doing genealogy research, I learned my grandmother was right.

Well, I’ve got to get busy! Have a beautiful day!

Turtle and Shelf Mushroom on Our Walk

It was way too hot–105 heat index, but little one and I went to feed the turtles at another pond. It’s closer to the house. There’s another one even closer, but it didn’t even have any of the tiny fish in it, so nothing came when we threw out some turtle food. I have seen turtles and wading birds in it, soooo. We walked to the other pond in the heat. Awful.

But there, we couldn’t see any turtles, lots of fish though. Then I realized we had walked right past a turtle and it was hurrying to get off the grass and into the water. He was right next to us. lol They’re shyer in there. No one is feeding them. So we will feed these turtles whenever little one is here. We’ll have to take a walk first thing early in the morning though. Then it’s the splashpad out back in the shade and then the rest of the day, we’ll be inside doing air conditioned fun.

I tried to blog yesterday and had another glitching blog. I had to run, so didn’t get back until afternoon.

In the meantime, I’m trying to dig up all the weed grass in the front yard. It grows in dark green tufts and it is taking over my yard. I think my grass needs some nutrients. It’s yellow green.

Where the dirt is showing, that’s where I’ve dug up these nefarious weed grass tufts. It’s a job and a half in this heat and humidity. I did a ton of it last night. The first picture was as bad as the bottom picture, but I dug up tons of it there already. I tried to do more this morning, but fire ants started biting and I gave up. I’ll try again tonight.

But right now? I’m back to writing the book.

Have a super day!!

Feeding the Turtles and Catfish at the Pond

I took little one to the pond to feed the turtles and catfish. We have two other ponds in the development so we’re going to try those too. And that’s a Carolina Anole.

I’m off and running. I have barely any food in the house, and so need to go early before the crowds come. At least everyone is wearing masks. A lady in a Facebook group I belong to just posted she lost her husband to Covid-19 and my son-in-law was playing online with a friend who’s friend lost a brother at 29 to Covid-19.

I saw where a teacher in Arizona lost her life to it, and half the teachers and staff had it after kids returned to school in one part of the country. I don’t know why anyone would think sending kids back to school would be “safe.”

Even if they are just carriers and don’t get that sick from it, teachers and staff and parents and grandparents and the list goes on, are exposed to it. Then take that to the grocery stores and everywhere else they can carry it to. This stuff spreads exponentially.

Have a great and stay safe day!

Rain and More Rain…from the Aftermath of Hurricane Harvey

Usually, I look for more rain in the forecast. Now I look to see when it is going away.

Rain, Rain, Go Away, Come Again Another Day.

Which is so true. The land is drowned in water like this, then it will clear up and we’ll be wishing we had some rain. Not south of us though. I feel for those that have lost their cars and homes to flood waters and storm damage. And for those who have died in this storm.

When the rain goes away, the nightmare is only really beginning.

The birds and squirrels are looking for shelter under my patio cover, which has also helped to keep the accumulating rain away from the house, as well as the gutters. Even in my neighborhood, some are having trouble with flooding, asking about French drains, when this isn’t really the time to be asking!

I didn’t see alligators in the pond, just a couple of turtles, who love this weather. Their pond is now even bigger.

We’ve had 27 1/2 inches of rain, and it’s raining this morning. I walked to the ponds yesterday to see if they were still contained. They are, though some trees are now in the water. They appear to have been built deep enough and large enough, that they’re rising, but still contained. Another pond a little farther away is too shallow and spilling into the road. There are several others that I didn’t check out. We had 0% chance of rain for like half hour, and twenty minutes later, the winds were gusting and the rain was starting up again, so I headed home.

They’re asking for boats and trucks that can navigate high waters. The grocery stores are running out of a lot of things–some made it to the stores, but they’re closing early. We’re still getting sheriff’s warnings to stay at home because people are getting caught up in the flood waters, stalling out their cars, and becoming more of the problem.

If you have to get out, take a stroll in the rain! Just watch for alligators and snakes.

Prayers for all those who have been affected by Hurricane Harvey. We have 100% chance of rain today, 90% tomorrow, and 50% the next day, so it will continue to drop from there.

I Took a Walk…Lazy Me

I meant to take a walk every day now that it’s cooler, right? And I’m just as lazy about it as usual. So if I give myself a goal, then I will get myself out the door.

I wanted to donate books to a Ladies’ Christmas party at the rec center, and so I took my camera, even though the books were heavy, but if I don’t take my camera, you know what happens, right? I see the most wondrous sight, and no camera. I dropped off the books and then saw hundreds of butterflies and bees (I exaggerate, which is an author’s prerogative, but truly, there were tons) on the flowers outside the center, and they’re flighty, not sitting still, so what’s new. But you never know when a cool shot will present itself, so I snapped away anyway.

dragonfly-against-bokeh-blue-sky-900The sun was out, so not the best as far as going with the golden hour, but I had to wait for the center to open.  The dragonfly is beautiful anyway.

dragonfly-against-green-backdrop-900-029walk-butterflies-red-flowers-900-008And the gulf fritillary is pretty too among the red flowers.

walk-long-tailed-butterfly-900-004And a long-tailed skipper butterfly.

walk-3-turtles-900-036And three little turtles. I almost didn’t see them, and then I thought they were ducks, maybe, so I took a shot and realized they were turtles. I drew a little closer, but they began to slip into the water.

I’ll share an excerpt tomorrow. I don’t know where the days go to sometimes. Does that happen to you?

Have a great one!
