From Single Title to a Series!

When I wrote Bound by Danger, it was a single title book. 🙂 It’s in part based on some of my military experiences, some on true case crimes, and well, the psychic business and the romance is pure fantasy. Some of it has to be fiction after all! All the locations are real places I’ve either visited or lived. So it was a lot of fun for me to write this story. What I didn’t expect was to have a great outpouring of love for the book and that fans wanted to see the next in the series. 🙂 And I love it!!!

Army officer Deidre Roux has hidden her psychic abilities until now. But ominous visions plague her and between the martial arts tactics her twin brother taught her and the hand-to-hand combat she learned in the Army—she’s realizing just how important these skills are for her well-being.
When a reporter moves in next door, she’s not sure just what to think. Dave Carter owns a gun—it is Texas—and comes to her rescue when her brother suddenly drops into her life again. From there it’s the normal stuff that women and men tend to do when they’re getting to know each other—boating, swimming, dancing—except for one thing…she’s trying to keep her secret under wraps at all costs, which is difficult to do when she’s under surveillance by the FBI, and people keep wanting her dead.
Could a reporter, who’s not really a reporter, prove he might just have what it takes to keep her safe–for the long run?
And so goes the birth of a series! First, this story is also based on some of the places I’ve lived, as was In the Dead of the Night–and in that one, one of the FBI safe houses was the same one used by the FBI in Bound by Danger. 🙂

In the Dead of the Night

Ebook By Terry Spear
Category: Fiction » Literature » Romance – Suspense » Romance – Adult
Allan Thompson works for a special agency that takes down terrorists, but when he’s given the mission to protect one of Thurstan Wilson’s mistresses, he knows something isn’t right. Jenny Brant doesn’t have much time before she’s history and she has a plan, but what happens next turns her whole world inside out.
Allan Thompson arrives in Waco, Texas for a mission of utmost importance–protect a terrorist’s mistress from being the next victim on his hit list. But when the mission goes down wrong, Jenny Brant is nearly killed and Allan begins a new mission–protect her at all costs–as her faux husband until she can regain her memories.
Everything about the mission seems wrong–all starting with one Jenny Brant who doesn’t fit the profile of the kind of woman Wilson usually hooks up with. Allan and his team must protect her, but at what cost to his own sanity or his heart?
Jenny Brant begins to regain her memories, but when she learns she has a huge inheritance that Wilson wants by marrying her, and the agent Allan Thompson will marry her instead to secret her money away with the Agency’s protection, she still can’t remember why she would have been a killer’s main squeeze. When Wilson’s thugs try to return her to him, she becomes less sure of who the good guys are and who she truly is.
The only thing she knows for certain–if someone doesn’t take down Wilson, her life is forfeit.
So we’re again in Texas, and again Bound for… well, in this case Danger, of course, and so much Trouble. Isn’t that great???
I’m still editing the story, and tweeking the cover, but what do you think?

I did write 7,000 on Jaguar Pride over the weekend, 7,000 over my quota for the week. If I get lucky and the ending comes to me, I should have the end written by the end of the week.

But today, I’m going to run errands, have lunch out, and play at the zoo. So are you ready to be Bound for Trouble?

Okay, off to get another cup of hot green tea.

Have a super great Monday. And stay out of trouble, will ya?!

New Website!!

Have you ever had something you don’t like forever and ever and ever and so forth, and you’ve been meaning to get rid of it, change it out, whatever, in forever?

I created a website a millennium ago and no matter how many times I changed the theme or deleted stuff or tried to reorganize it, it was just downright messy looking. I kept seeing other sites and wishing I had one like that. I hired someone to do a website for me, which would be fine if I didn’t have so many releases a year (a good thing) or want to change things up a lot (a bad thing) that I really needed to be able to do this myself.

Now, I’m busy. Really. I have blogs, emails, FB socials (you know, all that messaging and commenting that I just can’t ignore!) and I’ve got blog tours coming up (this equates to 1,000 words per guest blog, which can be as much as 40 blogs, which can equal half a book), a book I’m currently writing, more edits coming in, a print book to proof, you know, the usual.

But my website has been nagging at me. Every once in a while, something happens that makes me think about it again. I spent maybe two days trying to figure out how to configure one on WordPress. I swear, sometimes I can  be REALLY slow. But then, I got it. And then I’d run into another snag. Plus, I had deadline after deadline after deadline, so I put it on a back burner again. But it really, really embarrassed me to show off my awful website. *sigh*

Yesterday, I had 110 visits to my werewolf page, 270 to my main page. The closer I get to a release, the more hits I have. Sooo, I really, really wanted to have the new website in place.  I love it. Even if it’s not the “greatest most professional creation that a real web designer could design,” I love it. And that’s the main thing. It’s mine. I can play with it, when I have time. I can change it, update it, have fun with it. Change the theme if I decide I don’t like it, or decide to lean toward a different genre.

I have to say that I DID try to figure out Tripod, which had a new way of setting up a website and was much nicer than the old ones, but I could NEVER figure out how to use it. So I tried. 🙂 Really.

Now, what else can I get rid of that I have been wanting to for eons?

Do you have stuff like that that you put off because it’s too much trouble, but you know if you ever get it done, you will wish you did it a long, long time ago and could have enjoyed it for a long, long time instead of waiting and waiting and waiting on it?

Well, maybe this is the time to get right on it!

Have a super delightful Saturday. I am the proud owner of a cool new website. I hope everyone likes it, but if you don’t, you should have seen the old one! :)– Oh, and I’m still working on it! I just finally had to bite the bullet and publish it and will continue to update it as I have time. 🙂

female wolf close up

This is the female alpha wolf I took a picture of in Omaha. 🙂

My new website is nice and wolfish! Like this blog. And it has the same color scheme to give a unified look. Okay, working on the website means I’m a 1,000 words behind on my book for this week. You know, it’s really all mind games. I’m at 59,000, when I only figured on reaching 50,000 this week. 🙂 But I always revise up, so this week it’s 60,000 and I’m a thousand behind. 🙂

Mind games. Works every time. 🙂

Do You Daydream?

In my Demon Guardian Series, one of the teens has out of body experiences, which causes her to appear to be daydreaming in school. In Deidre’s Secret, the teen story, and her story as a grownup in Bound by Danger, Deidre has premonitions of things that will occur, and so again, people oftentimes believe she is daydreaming.

Don’t both of those situations sound a lot cooler than: I zoned out and was daydreaming? Only it’s no fun, because they can’t tell anybody that, who would ultimately believe them.

So the thing of it is–I’m not really daydreaming. I’m plotting my next great novel. Sounds good, doesn’t it?

What about you? Have a perfectly good excuse for zoning out when someone’s talking to you–the teacher (sorry, Prof), parents, the boss, friends, the dog (this one’s for you, Tom!)

You see, there’s nothing more boring than telling the truth, sometimes. So make up a good story!

In the moon shot I shared yesterday, the moon wasn’t really great, but I wanted to show off the North Star above it. With this one, I thought it was cool that the moon was reflected off the clouds as if it was reflecting off water.

Full Moon Glowing off Clouds (533x800)

Back to Jaguar Pride!

And no more daydreaming or out-of-body experiences or psychic phenomenon for me. Strictly time for writing.

What about you?

Some Mornings Are Just… Slow

Or… the time is fast and I’m just slow. Now when I was working at the library, sometimes the time went really slowly. 🙂 It’s all relative. When I’m waiting on a repairman, the time goes slowly. When I’m trying to finish up a bunch of projects, the time goes by way too fast.

Have you ever noticed it’s the same way when you’re on your way to something? If you have all the time in the world, you have no traffic, hit every green light, and are there way too early? But if you’re running late, you get behind the tractor trailer that is moving at 10 mph and no way to get around him, and you reach town and EVERY light is against you? EVERY single one? Now what are the odds?

So, I woke at 4, wrote a 1,000 words, and it’s already 8??? How in the world did that happen?

I could give you all the boring details–Story Finds was kind enough to contact me and tell me that I was featured on their site with my 99 cent sale for Taming the Wild Highlander, so I had to share that with the world. That meant Facebook, and then I was on there catching up with all the comments. Then I had to Twitter. Okay, I’m not a big twitterer. Yes. It’s a word. Because I said so. And then I post on Twitter, follow their site, and see the block saying: If you have a free or cheap read to share, share it here, and I was hooked. Sooooo, when you do that, another and another and another, and so on, pop up. So I was happily Twittering away. Hopefully, I didn’t do it wrong. I never am quite sure about it. 🙂 Maybe I should take lessons. 🙂

So here is Story Finds Link, and they did a beautiful job. Thanks!

http://storyfinds.com/book/6983/taming-the-wild-highlander

Okay, then I had to answer a million emails. Yes, overnight fans and friends and many others email me when I’m sleeping. Can you imagine? Why aren’t they all sleeping?

And then I was playing around with my full moon shots, okay, so that wasn’t EXACTLY essential to my morning routine, except that I wanted to share them on this blog. I’ll do it tomorrow though. Today is a shout out about Taming the Wild Highlander going on sale because it’s only for a day. Or, at least that’s what I planned. One day. It was picked up by ENT Book of the Day, you see, and that’s a great boon, so it’s coming out on Jan 22. That’s the sale day. So why is it on sale now? I had to reduce the price to ensure it WAS on sale for the sites by that day.

Edana Chattan senses concerns where people she knows could be in danger. When her brothers warn her they’re in trouble, she can’t convince her father to listen to her, so with an escort, she tries to locate them. Separated from her escort during a storm, she is discovered by Angus MacNeill, who is tasked to return her home.

Only Edana has other notions–and convinces him and his companions to allow her to use her abilities to locate her brothers who are manacled in a dungeon somewhere. That leads to a faux marriage and more dungeons and more trouble than Angus had ever thought possible. So why is the bewitching, fiery-haired lass making him think of marrying her for real?

Do you remember when I said that some times you are ahead of the game and then you’re even more ahead, but other times you’re way behind the ball and you’re never going to catch up?

That’s it! If I had changed the prices a day before, they wouldn’t have gone into effect until two days later. Murphy’s Law. But by changing them the week before, voila, instant success! An hour later, the 1-day sale is a go. Wrong day, a week early.

And that’s okay. I hate it when I see a sale that I missed because I was working or didn’t get the word until too late. So you get to enjoy it and I’m happy.

Now, as to my day that is slipping away before my very eyes, I’m off to make up for it. 25,000 words left to go on Jaguar Pride! Maybe about 2+ weeks to write on it, and it will be finished. Not all the way, but written, in any event. It’s due Mar 15, so that’s good. Then I’m off on another project! Keeps me out of trouble.

Okay, got to show off the full moon. Do you see the white light directly above it? That’s the North Star.

full moon and the North Star (533x800)

So, do you ever feel that your day is running away from you when you don’t want it to, and won’t go away when you do want it to?

The Business of Books

box-set-DARK FAE WITHOUT NUMBERS FINISHED (533x800)

My first box set! Isn’t it cool? Since the first two of my Highland books are with a publisher, I couldn’t do this with my Highland series. And this is the next book series (a teen urban fantasy) that I have that’s growing because of the interest in it. So since I had the sixth book ready for release, I figured I’d release the first five in a box set.

First 5 books in the World of Fae series:

The Dark Fae: Alicia has planned a vacation at South Padre Island with her girlfriend Cassie in forever. But just as they’re enjoying a day on the beach, here comes a dark fae to spoil their holiday, except only she can see what he truly is. Alicia has no idea how upside down her world can turn with a chance meeting with one of the dark fae from the royal house of the Denkar.

The Deadly Fae: Lady Sessily is a dark fae, an assassin, and she intends to retire and take up some other occupation so she can have a normal life. Get a boyfriend. Visit the human world to hassle humans like many of her kind do. Attend fae kingdom parties, not as the mystery woman who is scoping out her next intended victim, but just to have fun. Until tall, dark, handsome, and deadly interrupts her plans.

The Winged Fae: Serena, a royal member of the Mabara winged fae, has one goal in mind. Stop an impending marriage with a dark fae. As the fae are known to do, she stirs up trouble that she hopes will make her point and get her off the hook. Only nothing goes as she plans.

The Ancient Fae: Princess Ritasia misses the adventure of getting her brother and cousins out of trouble, but when the hawk fae king arrives to court her, she becomes involved in trouble nothing like she’s ever faced before.

Dragon Fae: Seeking to save Cassie from the dark fae, Princess Alicia runs into trouble in the form of dangerous fae seers. A dragon fae, who is different from all the rest, is sent to locate and rescue her. Simple mission. All Ena has to do is find the princess and return her home. Except nothing is simple in the world of the fae. Not when two fae kingdoms are involved. And humans. And fae seers. And all the trouble that can cause.

This is book 6 in the popular urban fantasy series where the fae world and ours is separate. But you know how you run into a wall when you know you have plenty of room to clear it, or you can’t find something you just know you could have put in one of three different places, and it’s not in any one of them, or your skin prickles with unease for no apparent reason–well, blame it on the fae. They pop in to play games with us humans. So next time you spill something, it really wasn’t your fault. Just take it as a good natured–or not–fae having a bit of fun at your expense. And the day WILL get better. If the fae move along. Just be glad that you’re not a fae seer–someone who can see them when they’re not visible to the rest of  us. If you can see the fae, that’s a whole other story! And so the series continues!

Hawk Fae book 6 eyes (532x800)

Sometimes doing a good deed can prove to be a disaster, Ena, dragon shifter fae, discovers as she must flee her home. But her staff chooses to go with her and deal with the dangers to reach the safety of the hawk fae kingdom, if the king there welcomes them. The human, Brett, promises to help her escape the marriage to the despicable dragon fae prince, rather than return home to his Earth world. And now all the dragon shifter fae are at risk of having to face the dragon fae king’s wrath.

Esmeralda, the hawk fae king’s sister has been imprisoned by the griffin on their island for half of her life and she finally makes her escape, only she gets herself into even more trouble.

Against her wishes, Ena must forsake Brett on the journey, and he finds his world is turned upside down once again and now he has to survive the life or death trials of the phantom fae kingdom.

demontrouble-too-2500-539x800

Demon Trouble, Too’s audiobook also just released. The narrator who was working the first one was having technical difficulty. *sigh* So two is out before one.

Alana Fainot is a demon gate guardian, stuck in her last boring year of school. But not for long. Hunter and the rest of the gang show up when her astral form can’t return to her physical form, and she’s at the police station trying to talk her way out of having seen the murderer of a summoner. Hunter always knew Alana was trouble, but his kind of trouble, and he’s not leaving Alana alone again.

Celeste Sweetwater, a new kind of demon, joins Hunter and Alana and the rest of the demon guardians in a fight to find a new kind of portal device that can summon several demons at once. But not only that, another Matusa has been unleashed on the unsuspecting human world and the demon guardians must stop him before he wreaks much more havoc.

But this time, the police are involved, paranormal investigators pounce on the area, and the whole mess seems to be spiraling out of the demon guardians’ control.

Ebook:

I just received some review copies, so if anyone wants to listen to a teen urban fantasy and has never used one of audible’s free credits, let me know and I can give you a copy. These are not on CD. 🙂

Okay, so I’ve had enough goofing off. Totally missed my word count on Jaguar Pride yesterday with finishing these up. Sooo, no more skipping my word count goals!

Have a super Middle of the Week Day!

Green is the Life-Giver

Think of it. It’s cool, the trees of the rainforests of the world, giving us so much of the oxygen we breathe and the plants we use for medicines, even cancer medicines. In the rainforests or jungles, you can find every shade of green from lightest to darkest, from yellows to emeralds to grays. Emerald, my birthstone, my favorite gemstone. Oh, sure, diamonds are a girl’s best friend (besides Highland hunks, cannot forget them), but emeralds are grand.

ff4cf-jaguarhunt-30028487x80029

The cover artist who did this cover reflected the green of the jungle to give the whole picture a green look–as he’s in the rainforest of Belize, just like where some of our last wild jaguars roam freely.

Mage of Monrovia

She wanted to be a school trained mage…but everything stands in her way.

Green has a soothing effect as in this cover. It ties us to the earth, reminds us of rebirth, the new spring leaves, the new green grasses. Freshly mowed grass smells green, doesn’t it? Many of our vegetables are green, the darker the green, the better for us.

Though I usually think of parrots in colors other than green feathers, here are a couple at Moody Gardens displaying their many shades of green feathers from yellow to neon green.

Houston Moody Gardens 023 (800x533)

Green under the sea.

eel (800x533)

A green eel that can zap you and ruin your swim.

A touch of green storm. Have you ever seen a green sky? Beware! Hail is on its way!

wood elves (533x800)

And of course Christmas means red and green.

Shadow Elf

She’s not supposed to be abandoned on the elves’ planet.

If I could, I would turn all the deserts of the world green.

And here are some of the clan bears I’ve made. Note: many Scottish clans have green and blue, as the significant colors in their tartan.

fall lake swan Scotland (2) (800x600)

Even with the fall colors, Scotland was green.

And there you have it. Green is calming, makes a building feel tethered to the land when surrounded by green. It gives shade in the hot, hot sun. It gives us oxygen and breaks up the blandness of a cement city, but green has it’s darker side too. Stormy green skies, beware. Don’t eat food that has green stuff growing on it! Green at the gills means you’re sick. Green with envy, well, you’re envious. Green means money.

But mostly for me, it’s a serene color that provides a tranquility–like walking through a green forest on a hot summer’s day. Or playing in the grass with a puppy. Or counting all those green dollars in your wallet. 🙂

Have a lovely green day–well, in the spring. 🙂  Do you like green?

Black is Elegant and Dangerous

3a716-blackbearlookingatus28800x80029

Black is–a black void in space, a black hole. An elegant statement in clothes–or a way of saying I’m mighty, watch out. Think of Swat teams wearing black. They did a test to see what colors were regarded more as having authority. Black has it.

It gives the feeling of emptiness or desolation. Black charred forests. A black ocean at night. A black moonless night.

Here is a black bear at the Omaha wildlife reserve and he could be rather menacing, but the brown bear that lives with him is no less menacing and lots larger!

Highland cow, black vibrant (800x705)

A black Highland cow with the fall colors of the river shining off his back. Shiny black can act as a mirror for images.

In the Dead of the Night

Romantic Suspense

In this cover, he was wearing a gray shirt, but he’s an undercover agent with a mission to protect, yeah, yeah, he’s sort of distracted at the moment, but see, he’s shielding her body in case the bad guys try to get her again and she looks kind of like she’s going to faint, so he really is helping her out. But he was wearing a gray shirt and it just didn’t work, so I darkened it to black.

And what she is wearing is black, and sexy.

ac10a-rwanationalsatlanta2013ffandpsoutherngothicball28640x46229

I attended an FF&P Gothic Southern romance themed party, and so definitely time to wear black. 🙂

demontrouble-too-2500-539x800

Not too many of my covers have black, but I liked this one for one of my young adult books.

Dragon Fae

Dragons love to hoard.

In Dragon Fae, Ena is a dragon shifter fae, but I loved this picture of a Goth-looking girl, who is looking at some of her treasure. Notice she even has black nails?

The Dark Fae

The World of Fae, Book 1, YA

The Dark Fae is nearly black, or some parts are on this cover. Black gives a dark appearance, unsettling, the unknown. It absorbs light and hides it away.

more storms 002 (2) (640x427)

A black storm front moving in, and the black bell below, black wrought iron fence.

Moon on a Texas Winter's Night

A glowing crescent moon on a black, black night.

Licorice is about the only kind of food I can think of that is black, unless I burn something!

The Black Death was a plague that killed an estimated 75-200 million people. The grim reaper wears black. The Phantom of the Opera. Vampires and their black capes. Funerals in the States–many wear black as a sign of mourning the dead. Can you imagine wearing bright orange or neon pink?

puppy with bowtie 029 (640x549)

And a Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy, bowtie and all, ready for the New Year!

wolf in shadow (800x534)

A black wolf in black shadow.

Black swans (800x533) rhinos and vultures (800x533)

Black swans a swimming, and black turkey vultures that mean death. No, these are not dead rhinos. Just sleeping. But the vultures are there, just in case.

Black works great as accessories, is dressy, and elegant. But then it has that darker side of it too.

Are you a fan of the color black?

Feeling in the Pink?

It’s time to be happy, healthy and wise–it’s time for pink!

Pink is sweet and frilly and who takes pink seriously? When I was writing Dragon Fae, I write about what the fae wear sometimes that reflects on their personalities. Ena is a dragon shifter fae. She wears black, Goth like, because think about it. If she wore pink, who would see her as anything but sweet and innocent and all cotton candy?

When you think of the Pink Panther vs a Black Panther, what comes to mind? Clownish vs scary. Sure, if you came across the Pink Panther, you would probably smile. You see a black panther in the jungle, you’d definitely lose the smile.

My favorite pink is a dusty rose. There’s pale pink, to shocking pink and every shade in between. Here are some pink pictures to get you in the pink!

What better way to show off some pink!

There are pink dolphins in the Amazon River! And in Savage Hunger. And pink salmon and pink shrimp. Did you know that there are sharks that turn pink because they eat so many shrimp?

Forgot my pink poodle skirt bears–perfect for that 50’s look!

Hope you are having a healthy happy pink kind of day. If you’re a guy, do you wear pink? My dad wore a pink dress shirt with black trousers and a black suit coat and black tie. He looked very elegant when he and my mother went dancing. Of course his male friends teased him because all their wives said they wished their husbands were brave enough to wear the color. 🙂

I’m back to the jungle and pink sunsets!

Yellow Equals the Sun

sunflower just right (640x427)

Like orange, yellow is a vibrant color, and warm, and soft. Here is a giant sunflower I took the picture of it. It lovingly reminds me of my dad who years ago planted the seeds and every year they pop up to fill my heart with joy and remember him by.

A yellow flower at the arboretum. And a voracious yellow bug. See the “artwork” he has done on the flowers?

Arboretum white flowers bug (800x786)

I think of sunshine, heat, warmth, and smiling, outgoing and adventurous. I think of yellow raincoats to stand out on a stormy gray day. Or fishermen back east in their slickers hauling in their catch.

Of course what is the most memorable yellow imagery that you can think of that is part of a famous piece of literature?

And I’m off to write up the new synopsis for A Hero of a Highland Wolf. The final with edits was turned in, but when I write the original synopsis for the books, I have no story written yet. So I have to kind of wing it. My characters often take off in a different direction, and so I always have to go back and rewrite the synopsis in a longer format. *sigh* They are always dreaded. Why? Because I should have written it when I finished the book. But nope, I’ve written nearly 3 since then! 🙂  Which means I can’t remember everything that went on in that story. LOL 🙂

Have a super Saturday!

Oh, wait, remember to tell me what the famous yellow imagery is. 🙂

Some Days are Meant to be Orange

Rose Colored enhancement (800x533)
I don’t grow these, though they are beautiful and I wish I did! This was a Mother’s Day bouquet of roses, and every time I see this picture, the flowers long gone, I’m reminded of these beautiful flowers and how important it is to capture the memories and keep them close to our hearts forever.

Okay, okay, so I’m a romance author. What do you expect?

Orange means warmth that chases away the gray days (we have another today), and so I wanted to share another warmly orange picture of a gorgeous Texas sunset.

And that famous shot I took, not that it was famous, but for me, it was, of the supermoon while I was flying home from a conference in Colorado. This is over Texas. Again, whether it’s the moon or the sun, it’s basking in a warm orange glow. Oh, I know, scientists have all kinds of scientific terms for stuff like this, but all I care about is the warm glow. 🙂 It’s a blog about orange, after all.

Some might say this is a red bear, but she really is orange.

And well, yes, the Highlands basking in an orange wolf sort of warmth. Orange is associated with warmth and creativity, sexuality, passion, and harmony.  If you wear a lot of orange, it shows you’re outgoing, busy, bright, courageous. Ironically, not really reading up on what the color meant, I have a character in Deadly Fortunes, who wears bright orange and she’s outgoing, vivacious, and lots of fun.

It’s a matter of a pride…and a matter of pleasure.

Some colors are us. Orange isn’t mine. But I still love it for fall and for Halloween. Orange is a season–a change from hot, hot, hot here in Texas, to cooler weather. So though it’s a warm color, it signals cooler weather.

How do you feel about the color orange?
