I REALLY, REALLY Love the Rain, but…

Could you please spread it out a bit???

I’ve got water up to my foundation again, and my toilets are gurgling—the water is to the top of the septic tank.

Soooo, I LOVE the rain. I LOVE the greenery. I HATE droughts, but…could you please spread it out a bit–like over the 100 + temperatures in the summer when it all just evaporates, but my plants could really use a good soaking drink?

Isn’t that always the way though? Feast or famine.

As dry as it is in New Mexico, they were having rain showers too. But as you can see, some of the sky is clear, and some of it not. In one of the pictures, it shows snow on the tops of one of the mountains, but couldn’t find it. I loved the mosaics on their memorial signs. Would love them for my garden!

A field of purple wildflowers were in bloom. wildflowers (640x469) Beautiful.

More later. I’ve been working from morning until bedtime, with puppy breaks in between, to finish edits on one book and another that need to be turned in by next weekend. I’m only on ch 3 again, on one of them, as I read through all the deletions and insertions, changed some back, made new changes, and started over again. Had to shut down because of storms last night, though it was nearly 11 pm. So guess that was okay!

Anyway, we saw Mexican gray wolves here, and I’ll share a couple of good shots of them later. 🙂

Have a lovely Sunday!!!

What one man sees as beauty, another sees as trash.

To me, they were beautiful creations by ancient man that help to tell his story. But to some, they are nothing more than broken pieces of pottery–trash. And the graffiti that modern people had added to the cliffs–looked similarly to the early pictures on the walls.

So trash and graffiti or beauty in the making?

It’s totally in the eye of the beholder.

A Trip Means Research or Research Means a Trip???

I used to take trips without thought to using the locations for a story, but when I became published, that all changed. I kept thinking about places I’d been–ski vacations in Colorado and Vermont and Pennsylvania, trips to the Caiman Islands, Hawaii, and the Virgin Islands and I’ve used several places in my stories. Greece? Possibly. Scotland was another story. It was my first time out of country where I actually went to do research–to visit 7 castles and get a feel of the landscape, whether there were enough trees for cover for my wolves, and the temperatures and the feel of the land.

So when I went to New Mexico, it was to see the wolves. But while there, we actually saw Mexican Gray Wolves also at another sanctuary, volcanoes, an ice cave, and a couple of reservations, and the ancient Anasazi ruins at Chaco.

I also considered the landscape for a story. Would it work for wolves? Or cougars? Or some other story? Here, you see trees, and there were trees in some areas, like at the volcano and ice cave we visited. But there were vast areas where very little was growing. I wondered how anything could survive out there as little water as they have.

When I returned to Central Texas, I felt relief to see GREENERY, trees, water!

I’ve been to many of the places I write about and it really does give a a feel for the area–more so than just reading about it and perusing pictures. It gives you a real sense of being there, because you have been there.

For one thing, it’s a lot drier. And we were on dirt roads a lot, so dusty. I kept looking for signs of life and saw none. And yet, I know it exists. When we were at the ancient Chaco ruins, I saw several lizards and a jack rabbit close up. On the way on and off the reservation–we took pictures of angora goats, wild horses, and sheep with their shepherding dog, cattle, and elk, none of them fenced in, all just roaming free.
I thoroughly enjoyed visiting New Mexico and the wilderness out there–no cell reception, therefore, no GPS, no internet, obviously, we used an outhouse most of the time to conserve water, and the solar powered electricity afforded us one little tiny light for about an hour, and that was it–with my friends and am ready for the next road trip!

So will I set a story in New Mexico? Most probably! Even if I use it for a romantic suspense.

Speaking of stories, I’m still working on She-Wolf Leader of the Pack proofing before I turn it in, so have a lovely Saturday! I’m off to work!

A Kiss from a Wolf

No cover yet, but I’m excited to see that SEAL Wolf Diving for Trouble is a preorder now for Feb, 2016. It always makes the book more real! 🙂 <3

Here, Zoerro is giving Rory a kiss. Sabine tried to lick me, but I wasn’t ready for that. My puppies do too, but experts say that dog kisses are bacteria laden, so if your dog is licking your open wounds, you might see infections. Although I’ve read if they lick their own wounds, they can heal faster.

🙂

One of the college courses I took was geology and I LOVED it. I would have had a field day seeing sites like this. Well, I did anyway!

It’s amazing to me how long it took for plants to begin growing here, and how they could even now. These trees are filled with iron. So guess what?

Lightning is REALLY attracted to them.

Storms over the Crater

Storms over the Crater

We asked if it was safe to climb to the 8,300+ feet while all this was building. Oh, sure, the ticket seller said.

Well, we did it, even if it wasn’t safe. We were all huffing and puffing–not because we’re so out of shape, well, maybe a little bit, but a lot because of the elevation. Took me forever to find it, but our city has an elevation of 470 feet. So that’s a big jump for us. Yes, I know, blame it on the thin air.

Okay, took Tanner in to be neutered, and got a call from the Vet that he was doing fine, while I’m spending more quality time with Max, the older puppy. 🙂 And pulling bur weeds.

Just a caution of what NOT to do if you want to be a Master Gardner. Do NOT pour weed killer on weeds that also is a grass killer, if you hadn’t intended to kill the grass. Too.

Pulling them is best, but I have SOOOO many, it’s going to take forever. Working on it though.

And…we had a surprise visitor this morning. I was taking the puppies out with me to put out the trash and letting them go potty one last time. I got brave this time and let Max run on his own off-leash, without carrying him out to the mailbox. He was fine.

Until we both saw a skunk!!! Ack. And it was running for the crops and I was yelling at Max to come as he ran after the “doggy” to play. Thank the heavens he turned around and came straight back to me. I had the controller set to low, not enough time to move it to a higher setting, but he was an angel and never gave that other doggy another thought.

DISASTER averted.

Oh, and then when I took Max out this last time, I vowed every time I took him out I’d pull up more weeds, and a tiny frog hopped out of the grass where I was pulling the weed. He ran right into Max, who never noticed him, and hopped to the jasmine ground cover. Then another hopped down the sidewalk. Though I’m wondering if they’re baby toads. I have a toad that’s been in the same area. But they sure looked like baby frogs.

Okay, off to work. 🙂 Enough goofing off with the wildlife!

Oh, and Phantom Fae is now in print!!!

Volcanoes and Ice Caves–New Mexico

While we stayed at the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary, we took some day trips to areas around there. And one of the places was the ice cave and volcano. Fascinating! It’s amazing how 10’s of thousands of years have to pass before life can begin to grow, and it does.

They used to take chunks of ice out to preserve food. It’s 31 degrees down there always.

Okay, back to typing up notes. More on the volcano tomorrow. I was starting Bite of the Vampire on the trip to Wisconsin. Couldn’t write on the trip to New Mexico, driving. And I wrote a little on the new medieval Highland wolf book on my trip to Daytona Beach in Feb, but haven’t ever had the time to write up the notes on that one either. 🙂 So that’s what I’m doing today.

Will My Puppies Have Remembered Me?

I am back!!! We were at the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary staying at the cabin there, and here is Zoerro and Sabine, Rory Zoerb holding the leash.

We didn’t expect Rory to bring them up to the cabin and he made our whole trip soooo memorable. We were trying to take pictures of them through the fences at the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary, but I didn’t get very many good pictures. So here, these were great. Thanks to Rory and Susan, who took some of the pictures with me in them, and to all the staff who were incredibly nice. Here I am petting Zoerro and Lor being as thrilled as I was.

I have to say that Debbie and my dream to go to the wolf sanctuary we thought was only a dream. We both worked at the library together and couldn’t go at the same time. So when Rory, who was handling the wolves in the pictures, contacted me on FB and invited me to visit, I asked Debbie if she was ready to go. She said YES!! And when I posted on FB to see who else wanted to go, I had 4 more takers. Donna and Lor ended up going with us and we had a wonderful time. More about all of it, but I have to pick up groceries and my own little wolves. They’re of course domesticated Havanese puppies and no longer of the wild variety, unless they go crazy when I go to pick them up. Which they did last time I picked them up from the kennel!

I’ll share the wolves howling soon. 🙂

We were at the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary and stayed for several days, saw ancient Native American ruins, an ice cave, volcano, and another sanctuary that had several Mexican gray wolves. I’ll be sharing when I can, but I wanted to post this for this morning. We were really roughing it. No internet connection, and no cell phone connection, which meant, NO GPS. Gas stations few and far between. But we had a blast.
