Mockingbird

Bold little mockingbird on my feeder.

I couldn’t sleep so I got up at 4:30. This daylight savings is really wreaking havoc with my sleep pattern. So I got up early and have been doing all kinds of chores before my granddaughter gets here. We’re going to ship a book, get donuts, and figure it out from there. We might have a picnic at the park for lunch.I had thought of getting some stones to put under my rocks that border my flowerbeds so they don’t keep sinking into the soil and grass. But the bags are really heavy. I thought of getting some pansies or snapdragons if they have them. Or I might just look for an outdoor metal Christmas decoration. My granddaughter loves to help me put them out. I like them because day or night they’re on view.

In the meantime, my dogs are wanting out, so off to begin my regular routines…and maybe get in a tiny bit of writing before she gets here.

The Wolf Pack

We had wild storms yesterday afternoon that we weren’t going to have. Yay! We needed the rain. So we got an inch. I also managed to get 3,000 words on Bear in Mind, so 28K done, 42k to go. Woohoo!

This is another photo I took of the beautiful wolves at the International Wolf Center.

The Wolves in Play

I took the photo of the alpha male’s brother who is getting the brunt of being picked on. Though he’s as big as his brother, and the other two wolves are smaller, Luna, the black female is the alpha female, and the other, Boltz, is her brother.

I took this photo at the International Wolf Center. Oftentimes they were just sleeping, or standing, but seeing them playing was really fun.

The Alice in Wonderland Escape Room outdoors was lots of fun yesterday. We had a phone app and as we searched through the town for the Wonderland characters, we would have riddles, puzzles, and sometimes timed events to the next phase. If we got our riddles and coins for answering others correctly when the Cheshire Cat showed up, we reduced the time to our overall amount we were accumulating. But if we got it wrong, down the rabbit hole we went. A lot of folks were dressed in costume. We saw a lot of Tweedle Dees and Tweedle Dums and a pair of sisters who were dressed the same were pushing a buggy carrying two fluffy dogs dressed as cards-just adorable. It took us 2 hours and 6800 steps to free Alice and we actually took her home with us!

So I’m going backwards on word count on Bear in Mind. I had a scene in there that would create too many characters and two many subplots, and then I had to sort out some of my scenes so that they made sense once I cut out the other. I’m back up to 25K and hope I can keep moving forward now on the story!

Speaking of falling backwards, did you set your clocks back if you have Daylight Savings Time in your area? I just need to reset my car clock. I woke at 4 am and couldn’t get back to sleep, but I guess that was really 5 am.

Today is Use Your Common Sense Day

When I’m talking to my granddaughter, I’ll say something, and I’ll think, oh, she doesn’t know that word or subject yet. My dad would always say, “I was born knowing that.” lol

But in truth, we can live most of our life without knowing something, and then learn about it and think, wow, I never knew that. In that case, common sense has only to do about knowledge. If you know that touching the hot stove top will burn, then common sense dictates to not touch the hot stove top.

Do you ever ignore good common sense though and get in trouble for it? Like being out in the sun too long and feel the burn coming on, but still staying out in it because the ocean view, breezes, water, is way too fun to enjoy?

So today is use your common sense. After today, you have the rest of the year to just be you.

I think I finished Warrior Elf, but common sense tells me to let it sit for a few days, work on something else, and then reread it to make sure!

World Jellyfish Day

They’re so beautiful, unless you’re swimming with them. This one was gracefully doing ballet moves in an aquarium in Omaha, perfect for viewing, but keeping my distance!

I’m off to get a turkey for Thanksgiving, (turkey shortage too) and having early so kids can see the other parents for the holiday, which means free time to write! And I’m going to early voting. Sometimes I miss it, but I have to take care of my granddaughter on the regular voting day, so have to do this early!

The 4 Billy Goats Gruff

Goats at the wildlife reserve near Omaha. I don’t know what there is about goats, but I just think they’re cute. I always thought when I had 5 acres at one place, I’d like to have a couple to chew down the grass!

It rained all day yesterday, but today it’s supposed to be just cloudy. I’m having lunch with my granddaughter. I’m looking forward to it.

Koi in Hawaii.

Yesterday was fun. I ended up walking 5 miles, but look what I saw at one house! House breakers! It looks like they got stuck and they didn’t make it very far. 🙂

I only managed about 600 words on Warrior Elf. Way too many other things going on, but we had fun and that matters too.

Hope your day is great! I’m hoping to knuckle down today and write until I pick up my granddaughter and then get back to it. It’s supposed to rain all day. We’ll see. 🙂
