When Homes Withstood the Ages

One of my favorite pictures of a Scottish castle.

I was going to share some trip pictures but I can’t download them to my computer, so I’m getting an SD reader that will hopefully download them instead.

I’m off to get some weeding done. When we got back, everything was green, just like the grass in this picture and the weeds and the new flowers are all out. lol Which means I have to weed again!

But I need to work on edits too and pick up my dogs from boarding them. We wanted to pick up the dogs yesterday, but they were closed for Easter. Poor dogs. As soon as I walk in the house, I’m greeted, they want to sit on my lap, want petting, etc., so it seems so weird not to have them underfoot with their cheery little expressions.

Just got a call from the groomer at the kennel. She says they are so badly matted they can’t groom them without shaving them. I don’t know how they get so messed up at this place. The other place I’ve taken them to were fine. So I’ll pick them up, groom them myself, and once they’re not matted, I’ll take them to a different groomer to trim them up nice and neat and bathe them again. So I have my work cut out for me.

We’re also seeing The Lost City this afternoon. I hope it’s as good as Romancing the Stone–another romance author story where the author gets caught up in the real world of danger.

Dogs home, off to bathe and groom.

Have a great day!!!

Dragon on the Prowl (Fantasy Art)

The castle is actually a picture that I had taken, along with the castle gardens in another picture and the clouds were another shot. In Scotland, I would often get white sky backgrounds so I needed to add clouds. I also added texture for fun. And the dragon, of course.

Ugh, Daylight Savings Time. I need to remember to reset my car clock.

I soared with the dragons yesterday! I ended up writing 7,000 words on Wolf Pack. It’s a novella, so now I have 9,000 words done. Yay!! I shoot for 23K on a novella, but sometimes they end up around 33K. It just depends on the story, but I’m having a blast writing it. It’s a medieval Highland wolf story, first that I’ve done.

I’ve got to run errands, not wanting to, but we’re celebrating Saint Patrick’s Day and I am out of food again.

Have a wonderfully, imaginative day!

Scotland–Darkness and the Light

Cemetery in Scotland, pretty flowers growing on the ancient stone. And the dark, dark castle. You can imagine without torches, it would be very dark, the only light coming from the window above. 🙂

Baby is here and between a cold and getting two more teeth in, she’s a handle, poor thing. So just getting my blog done during a 15 minute nap.

Hope your day is going great! It’s COLD here. Loving it. 🙂

Hot, Hot, Hot–So Think of Something Cool

Pictures of Scotland. Yep, that will work. 🙂 The first is a Highland pop-up card of a Highland cow. The next is the bridge to Eilean Donan, the next 4 birds on a branch with a loch in the background on the walking path to another castle. 🙂 <3 Fog over the Eilean Donan and a breeze-less day.

Okay, back to the story!

If you don’t have Billionaire in Wolf’s Clothing, be sure and get it. It will make you feel healthy, wealthy, and wise. 🙂 With a lot of imagination.

Do They Not Remember…

That I once protected them as they protected me? Where are those who gave me life and I gave them a way to live now that I need their loving hands to take care of me once again?

Do the buildings that now house them stand the ravages of time like I have done? Do not leave me to ruin, I beseech you.

Golden Lights Reflecting off Eilean Donan Castle at Night

Golden lights on Eilean Donan Castle at night. We, Vonda Sinclair, Author, and her friend Karen and I, stayed at a bed and breakfast near there and went back out at night to take pictures. October, some years back.

— at Eilean Donan Castle.

Eilean Donan

Eilean Donan Castle, Scotland

Isn’t it beautiful? I thought about how it would be, no lights, just sitting there in the dark while invaders pondered how to plunder it. Torches would be the only lighting then as the enemy moved around in the pitch dark.

Seeing a beautiful bit of man-made history makes me think of that historical past, doesn’t it you?

Highland Rake 160

And it makes me think of the romance element! Of course. 🙂

Highland Rake, Book 3
Dougald MacNeill takes Lady Alana Cameron to his laird brother James’s Craigly Castle when he finds her roaming the heather on the MacNeill lands. But who has sent her there and why? Her uncle, laird of the Cameron clan, and warring with the MacNeill for years, has made a marriage arrangement with another clan and now that is even at stake.
Having witnessed her father’s death, and even believing he had returned her home when all along he had been dead, Alana discovers she has the gift, or curse, of seeing the newly departed and sometimes those who should have long ago passed over. Her own deceased brother continues to plague her, the rake, and now another, who is very much of the flesh, Dougald MacNeill, has her thinking marrying a rake might just have its benefits. Dougald’s sister, who is one fiesty ghost, has offered to help Alana keep Dougald in line if he thinks of even straying.
But who sent Alana on a fool’s errand in the first place to remove her from the Cameron’s lands and set her squarely in Dougald’s care, and who really killed her father and her brother, and what has it all to do with Alana? Will she and Dougald learn the truth before it is too late?

Her Highland Hero
Lady Isobel is a Norman laird’s daughter, living near the Scots border where her father, Lord Pembroke, is trying to keep the peace. But her mother was a Highlander and the man Isobel loves most of all is Laird Marcus McEwan, who has been bringing news of her mother’s people for years. But now Isobel’s father wishes her wed to an English nobleman, who will carry on his title. Isobel will wed no other man but her heart’s desire—and that is one braw Highlander from her mother’s homeland.
Laird Marcus McEwan has loved the feisty lass forever. For years, Marcus has tried to convince Lord Pembroke to allow him to wed his daughter. But the Norman lord will not allow it. Then ambushes and murders make it too dangerous for Marcus to reach a peaceful resolution.

Nothing goes as planned and keeping the lass for his own is fraught with danger, as they try to determine who was behind the killings. Isobel and Marcus will do everything in their power to ensure they are together as they have always vowed they would be.

Narrow, Curving Castle Stairs

Narrow curving castle stairs (596x800)

Sometimes they led to nowhere at all. But did they really? Of course they led to somewhere. But now that somewhere is gone.  Do you ever imagine what it would have been like day in, day out, climbing these very narrow stairs? Can you imagine trying to pass someone on them?  It’s hard to do. We would have to back up and let someone else come up the stairs. Why were they so narrow?

You can imagine it would be a lot more difficult for an attacker to get to the defender with so little room to move. And two couldn’t come up at once, shoulder to shoulder. One would have to follow the other and couldn’t fight until the guy ahead of him was out of his way.

Note also the curve to the stairs so that the defender coming down could swing his sword and the attacker, if he was right-handed, could not. I wonder if anyone thought about that in teaching their sons swordsmanship–to fight with both hands, to swing as well with the left as the right?

Off to work some more on Jaguar Pride, which has nothing to do with castles and Scotland, but…

Have a super TGIF!
