A Male Robin on our Walk

The female was nearby but I couldn’t get a good shot of her. With all the rain, they’re happily eating worms.

I had my grandson overnight until this evening. More storms are coming then. We fed the turtles at the pond, but it was 96 and too hot. Not even halfway around the pond, he said we had walked enough. lol He’s 4 now. But we managed to go all around it so that we could feed the turtles on the other side.

While he’s playing with his dinosaurs and watching Trolls, I’m trying to read a little of Protecting the White Bear. Tomorrow will be a long day. So will Thursday and Friday.

Every week gets closer to Stem Cell Transplant Day though. 🙂

Hawk on the Light Pole in Front of My House

I was bringing my granddaughter home from school and saw this huge bird swooping down, missing his prey and then he landed on the lamp post. I was so excited, pulled over before I went into my driveway to capture a couple of shots with my phone. I ran into the house to grab my camera to take some better shots, but he was gone.

They would sit on my fence occasionally, coming after the birds on my feeders, you know, kind of a smorgasbord situation, but I have so many tall shrubs and trees now, they’re more protected.

I’m off to write! It is only going to be about 84–which will be about 94 heat index wise, but that’s better than 112!

I brainstormed with a friend last night to come up with what I needed to finish Highland Wolf. It’s finished, but I just felt I was missing something. So off I go to write!

Cardinal at a Writer’s Retreat

The cabins had a birders’ blind and I had never seen one of those before. The vegetation was really tangled so it was hard to capture some of the birds, but when they came down to drink on the water features, voila! A great shot.

Well, I’m sick again. My grandson has a cold, probably from daycare, and now I have it. Ugh!!! I just got over all that other stuff.

I’m off to work on Highland Wolf. I need 7,000 more words. I’m wrapping it up. I thought of another teaser to add also, though. I might. Or maybe not. With a congested head, I might have thought it was a great idea and if I write it down, it might not have been. Ha-ha!

Cardinals Taking a Shower in the Rosebush

The sprinkler was on, hitting the rosebush, and a cardinal couple were enjoying taking a shower in this dry (as in not rainy) humid heat.

I was pulling tons of weeds. I kept thinking maybe I could wait until winter. Ha! It feels like 90 already. But I figured if I could get out really early, maybe I could get some of this done before it was way too hot. In the back, I have a lot of shade. In the front, it gets really sunny early.

But…I found that some of my crepe myrtles that volunteered in the front yard, are finally getting big enough to provide some shade and the great thing about that? I made a mistake in planting some sedum that just takes over everything. It’s not pretty and little and flowery. It’s just weedy looking. Sooooo, I’ve fought it for years, pulled it out and pulled it out, but it’s always there. Until the crepe mytles started shading them out and then the sedum got leggy, not compact and hard to remove. Soooo, I was able to pull out a ton of it and maybe I will finally get a handle on it. And I managed to mostly tackle three flowerbeds. Again, because the other plants are starting to shade out the weeds also. That was my plan. I just didn’t think it would take 10 years to work. lol

But today, I need to do edits on the July book release and so off I go to immerse myself in the red wolf pack of Portland, Oregon.

Laughing Gulls Fighting over a Steak Bone

They were very entertaining as they swooped in to try and grab the bone. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip to the beach at South Padre Island.

I managed to do edits on Highland Wolf while waiting on my granddaughter to finish coder class yesterday. But that was it. I picked up my dogs but they hadn’t washed them, so I had to wash them and started combing Max out last night. It was too late to work on Tanner. I’ll have to get to him today. I have both grands, so not sure how much of anything I’ll get done. I need to finish Wolf Bound too. By the time I finished pilates last night and was combing Max out, I ran out of time.

I was going to take the grands to the community pool but it’s supposed to rain all day. And we lost our power at some point last night. At least the storms have cooled things off and that is a welcome relief. I started a corned beef at 6 this morning–the grands LOVE it.

Off to get more stuff done before they arrive.

Pretty Bird

And he knows it. I took the original photo of the macaw at Moody Gardens, Galveston.

Well, I’m spinning my wheels here, have an idea for a scene or two for Huntress Unleashed, but still messing with the taxes. But I did manage to catch up on word count yesterday too. And hurt my back.

Now, was it from lifting a 35 lb weight several times yesterday? Toddler grandson. Or Pilates on Tuesday? Or lifting bags of dirt into the grocery cart and then into the car and then out of the car? Or pulling weeds? Or pushing 45 lbs of weight, adding the anchor, my granddaughter, who I am pulling along also as she holds onto the stroller handle? Or all of the above????

Could be!

Okay, so I’m off to get some things done. Taxes? Hmmmmmmm. Huntress Unleashed word count? I want to! But I also have a lunch date with my granddaughter that will break up the day and then have to pick her up after school, so we shall see how much I actually accomplish!

Macaw and Ibis

Not two birds of a feather, yet, they seem to not mind being in each other’s company. I took the photo at Moody Gardens, Galveston.

I’m at 40,000 words on Huntress Unleashed. I don’t have the grandkids through Monday, so I’m thinking, do I try and proof Dreaming of the Highland Wolf, or keep working on Huntress Unleashed? Maybe I can get my word count on the vampire story and then skip off to start proofing wolf. Hmm, sounds like a plan.

The temperature dropped. So the high will be 48 today. It was warmer first thing this morning. So I’ll probably skip yard work today. Does that mean I’m a fair weather gardener??? lol Yeah, I think so!

Cockatiel in Okinawa

Isn’t he, she pretty?

Well, we had a great hike, saw some cool primitive Texas buildings that had a shed for wagons, split rail fence around a garden, outhouse, small one bedroom house, couldn’t see inside the other, a smokehouse, and earthen root cellar, etcetera. We walked with several families and their Girl Scouts, so that was fun.

Last night was great for our overnight slumber party, though shortly after I went to bed at ten after proofing another chapter of Night of the Vampire, here comes my granddaughter. In the morning, she put the dogs out and fed them, made herself cereal, did two reading assignments and two math pages, and then I got the little one up. So they’re both having cinnamon rolls and yogurt. Strawberries are next up. They’re watching a kids’ show, and then we’ll dress warmly and go out to pick up pine cones. With all the strong winds we’ve been having, they’ve blown down tons. I’d picked up the ones in the backyard, but it’s full of pine cones again. And I need to cover my plants before the hard freeze tonight.

Need to empty the fountain and birdbaths of water too. And I hope to finish proofing Night of the Vampire after the grandkids go home, though I might get in a chapter this morning.

Upside Down Tufted Titmouse

I love these birds. They’re shy and I don’t see them as often, but they’re there.

I have both kids today, so it’s hectic. I managed to get 7,000 words this weekend on Highland Wolf but I am way behind on it. So I need to really keep after it.

Okay, got to go. We’re watching the birds on the feeders. Have a super Monday!
