In the Bear Cave

black bear side vultures (640x427)

Bears sleep. It seems weird to go into my bear writing cave to work. Right? But that’s just what I need to do. Proof for A Very Jaguar Christmas came in, having to do promo for Billionaire in Wolf’s Clothing, had issues with the title for Loving the Silver Wolf that was changed without asking me, and I hated the title, and now I like the new one they came up with, and will share it soon.

And working on SEAL Wolf Undercover. 14,000 words to go!!!

Which is exactly why I’m headed for the bear cave. I want to go out and get bark mulch. I want to get more bricks. I want to keep working on my garden. 🙂 Before it gets too hot.

But…work calls, and so I’m off to work.

Have a great Saturday!!!!!

Happy Mother’s Day!

DSC_5365 (640x427)Did you know you can take roses from a bouquet and plant them to try and have a special keepsake rosebush from some special occasion? I haven’t ever tried it, but if you google it, they show how.

roses mothers day blaine (640x427)I still don’t have a working computer, and can’t access Facebook on my computer or laptop, but I did manage to write 3,000 words yesterday, and am working on my word count before I go off to lunch with my daughter and SIL.

After the Storms…

lavender, spaghetti 003 (640x433)I’ve decided to call my dogs bird dogs. Not because they chase them, though they do like to chase the doves, but because they think they’re a couple of birds, looking to eat the bird seed the squirrel knocked out of the bunny feeder. Yep. Forget the birds. Between squirrels and puppies….the birds lose out.

Roses at the Castle Gate…

Hey, I write fiction, so to me, this is my castle and it looks like the roses could be at a castle gate, so…that’s what it is. roses at the castle gate (640x427) copy Everything is in bloom. The Everblooming roses, pictured here in hot pink, macro shot, wind blowing them around, but still got a pretty good shot. And shrubs I didn’t realize bloom are in bloom. I’m working on She-Wolf, only 500 words to go to get word count, though I’ll still need to write a lot more to finish it. And I’m working on Huntress for Hire proofing for the audiobook, which is 9 hours plus long, and I’ve gotten through 2 hours of it. And that’s it! Except for constantly taking the furry ones out, researching about marijuana, not for me, for the story, and, well, yes, stopping to take pictures, can’t help myself, I’m trying to remain focused on She-Wolf. Oh, have 8 bear orders to do also. Okay, back to work! Happy Saturday!

Everything’s Coming Up Roses

A few days ago, I posted about the yellow roses that have appeared.

But a couple of days ago, my Knock-out roses began to bloom.

IMG_5837 (640x619)

We have heat, humidity, drought, drenching rains, heavy black clay soil, so not the perfect climate for a lot of plants. My mother had Blaze red roses that were beautiful against the white brick, but they were subject to black mildew and black spot and so my dad finally removed them all. It was sad, but they put in a lot of crepe myrtles that blossom all summer and are mildew and black spot resistant.

Then I found the roses at one of the home supply and garden centers that were purportedly resistant to all the stuff that plagued the Blaze. So a couple of years ago, I planted the one and it was so successful, the flowers blooming nearly every month of the year without any hassle, no fungacide, no bug spray, no special fertilizers, that I was won over. They’re Knock-out roses, beautiful, and at least for now, seem perfect for here. I even over-water a bit because two of them are by a cypress tree and lots of jasmine cover, so I need to water some during our awful droughts. But they don’t seem to mind.

It’s good to keep a color scheme that is more uniform, which makes it more showy. And red really stand out. But when I went to get some red, they were sold out. The pink were beautiful, so I picked up one of those that first year, then the next year planted another pink in that same area and a red in another area.

So for my mom and dad, they are a memorial to their hard work at trying to make the roses viable.

Some Days are Meant to be Orange

Rose Colored enhancement (800x533)
I don’t grow these, though they are beautiful and I wish I did! This was a Mother’s Day bouquet of roses, and every time I see this picture, the flowers long gone, I’m reminded of these beautiful flowers and how important it is to capture the memories and keep them close to our hearts forever.

Okay, okay, so I’m a romance author. What do you expect?

Orange means warmth that chases away the gray days (we have another today), and so I wanted to share another warmly orange picture of a gorgeous Texas sunset.

Hot Sept Storm Clouds Central Texas original (small)

And that famous shot I took, not that it was famous, but for me, it was, of the supermoon while I was flying home from a conference in Colorado. This is over Texas. Again, whether it’s the moon or the sun, it’s basking in a warm orange glow. Oh, I know, scientists have all kinds of scientific terms for stuff like this, but all I care about is the warm glow. 🙂 It’s a blog about orange, after all.

Super Moon over Texas Airliner

Some might say this is a red bear, but she really is orange.

And well, yes, the Highlands basking in an orange wolf sort of warmth. Orange is associated with warmth and creativity, sexuality, passion, and harmony.  If you wear a lot of orange, it shows you’re outgoing, busy, bright, courageous. Ironically, not really reading up on what the color meant, I have a character in Deadly Fortunes, who wears bright orange and she’s outgoing, vivacious, and lots of fun.

Heart of the Highland Wolf

It’s a matter of a pride…and a matter of pleasure.

Some colors are us. Orange isn’t mine. But I still love it for fall and for Halloween. Orange is a season–a change from hot, hot, hot here in Texas, to cooler weather. So though it’s a warm color, it signals cooler weather.

How do you feel about the color orange?
