Photo Art in Black and White–Butterfly on Flowers

I had taken the picture of the flowers and natural bokeh of bubbly light as the sun hit the esperanza flowers behind it. Then I added the lilac flowers to blend in with the giant yellow swallowtail butterfly that was perched on some lilac flowers (Daily Textures). It was really pretty with all the yellows, but I wondered how it would look as a black and white photo and I thought it was really beautiful that way as you can see more of the textures in the picture.


Well, I ended up with 3,000 words yesterday! So I’m over word count. Yay! I was so glad to be getting somewhere with the story, despite having to run errands. It’s another hectic day today for me–teeth cleaning this morning. Haven’t gone in since January of last year because of Covid. They’re starting to take patients again and I’m fully vaccinated, so I’m hoping that’s enough. Another appointment this afternoon. So I’ll have to write in short spurts as much as I can and do edits like yesterday.

I need to run in for a couple of groceries. I thought I just did that! So I’ll try to combine that with the teeth cleaning–well, afterwards.

I finally took the dogs in to be groomed yesterday. They’re long-haired havanese and though I comb them out every day (they don’t shed), their faces and paws and tummies and rumps need to be trimmed and they can do it unlike how I can. I take them once every three months or so normally. But with Covid….no.

We’re supposed to have storms again today, hoping they’ll stay away while I’ve got to run to the appointments. People can’t drive here when it rains. I swear they think it means drive faster! And we have a lot more accidents. Hmm, just looked at the weather and it appears we’re going to have thunderstorms both times I’m out and about. Plus we still have two river flash flood warnings.

I was so hoping I’d have the book done by this weekend, but not sure. I want to get started on the Christmas anthology novella and get back to You Had Me at Cougar. I wish my brain could write these at night while I’m sleeping.

Fog and Sunrise…and…the Fae

Okay, so I’m taking pictures of the fog, right? And like I said before, I figured the colors were muted because of the early morning hour, but then I took a picture of a mossy rock and it was all black and white, and I knew something was wrong. Well, the fae were messing with me!

The settings were changed and so when I reset it to manual, voila! We were no longer in Kansas, but in the Land of Oz! Full color at sunrise on a foggy day on Lake Superior.

Happy 4th!!!

It’s beastly hot here. We were going to take a walk to the dog park, but at 6 am, it was like a sauna. Yesterday, it wasn’t as hot, drier, and a stiff breeze made it wonderful.

20160703_092904 (1280x1206)Dachshunds and beagles in the large dog park, and Havanese and Shih Tzu/Poodle in the small dark park.  The other dogs were barking before we even got there. But Max decided to bark like nuts on and off at the other dogs. Tanner was into exploring. Mishka was quiet.

20160703_093330 (720x1280)Then Tanner discovered the water, and he was so funny as he was trying to figure it out, and then had the brilliant idea of actually lying down in it to get cool.

Life of a Sunflower

Life of a Sunflower

Last night before I forgot to take some pictures of the sunflowers growing at the edge of my property I snapped some shots. The farmer was going to cut them down, but no, they propagate every year, I don’t have to plant or water them, and every year, they cheer me.

Here is the life of a sunflower in one shot–the brand new baby to the left, full of hope and enthusiasm, coming soon to spread his petals wide and capture the sun and share his joy, the middle one at old age that is just as beautiful as he begins to fade away, but is still colorful and interesting at his advanced age, fading, but not forgotten, and the middle aged flower in full bloom, glorying in the freedom and beauty he possesses. They will all leave seeds for their progeny to arise again.

And that is the life of a sunflower.

Off to write! I had planned 4,000 words yesterday, but I was messing with ibooks again, and I ended up getting all 7 of the fae books up there. So that was neat. But I have another 30+ books to convert and upload, so this will take some time.

And I want to keep ahead of the game. I did get 2,000 words yesterday, and I only  planned 2,000 today, soooo, that means 4,000 today instead. I’ve been editing the book, which always means cutting and adding and cutting, so word count doesn’t grow as fast as writing new scenes. even so, only 22,000 to go! 🙂

Heat Wave–Need Some Rain, Please!

Even the Lizards are Thirsty in Texas

I have to say that I wrote and wrote and wrote on Billionaire, managing to get 5500 yesterday. Thought I had done more than that, but it got me up to 68,389 words. That means I have less than 12,000 left to write! Which means I’ll write about 6,000 more than that. It’s just the minimum, but I still have several scenes to write. 🙂

Still, I’m getting there! And hope to be there by the weekend.

I took this photo of the lizard and the bottle of wine at a museum gift shop in Austin, only in Texas. 🙂 I added the grunge background to make the critter and his poison of choice stand out.

But with 100 degree heat every day and no rain in sight, and no relief from 100 degree heat every day, it seemed appropriate.

Even so, it hasn’t been bad. My plants would have all needed watering by now if we hadn’t had so much rain before. And the temps are nice in the morning and not to bad late at night. If a breeze blows, it helps. I have to take the puppies out in it so I don’t have much choice. In the middle of the heat, I have to stand in the shade. It’s just too hot otherwise.

I started a new regimen with the puppies. After staying up so late the other night and getting up so early, I took a nap and decided to allow the puppies to decide where they would be while I did so. Max went into the crate and took his nap. Tanner slept by the door. It worked! They both came to see me to tell me after 30 mins I  had taken enough of a nap, and sure enough, they both had to go potty outside. I tried this about a week ago and both wanted in bed with me. So I had to put them  in their crate.

They still might not be ready for this, but I’m working them up to sleeping on their beds or in the crate without having to be “locked” in nights. But for now, we’re working on the occasional nap time.

Color or Black and White?

I was trying to take a picture of each of the puppies sleeping, and the only one that turned out really interesting was the one who was in shadows.

At first, I deleted it because I couldn’t see the object of my photography well enough. But it wasn’t the dog that was the interest but everything around it and over it and all because of the light and shadows.

To me, what’s interesting is not just the vertical blinds and their sunlight reflection on the wood floor, but the fancy trim on the coffee table that is also reflected on the floor as if it was actually physical scroll work and not just a reflection. And the blinds are reflected off the table, making it look like a piano keyboard.

If the dog hadn’t been lying there, it would have been interesting, mainly, I thought, because of the way the curtain cut into the blinds reflection, but she adds another dimension. Life. Not just stark inanimate objects. She’s looking back at me, wondering what I’m doing. She doesn’t get photographed as much as my puppies do, so she doesn’t react as much as they do. Tanner would sit up and look straight at me, ready for his picture. Max is more laid back.

And yet, at first, I thought the picture was a mistake, no good, time to discard. Some of my worst mistakes are kind of cool, actually. 🙂

I’ve Got a Cover!

And more bear orders! I have 4 now to work on. And I have 70 pages left to go over on A Silver Wolf Christmas. And of course that means She-Wolf is on hold for the moment. I hope to finish A Silver Wolf Christmas today and then get back to She-Wolf. It doesn’t mean I have quit on it. I wrote some more the night before last, just haven’t typed up my notes, and I was reading through the 1st 50 pages again to ensure I’m going in the right direction.

I also went over the changes to Hawk Fae last night, but two mistakes still exist, so once those are changed, I can approve it.

Well, the puppies just woke up, again, so bathroom break time. They woke me at 5 am this morning. I tried to ignore them, because 6:00 has been their get up time for most mornings. And I’d rather sleep until 6. But…ignoring them didn’t work.

I tried the collar on Tanner yesterday to see if I could get him used to listening to direction with it. He was sooooo good, but recently, he’s come into the terrible twos. He’s 5 mos old, and when I tell him to come, he used to run to me, now he sits and just gives me that look that says, “Make me.” So I put Max’s training collar on him while we were outside. He hadn’t a clue what was telling him to listen to me, and he kept attacking Max, thinking he was giving him grief.

So when we went inside, I began editing A Silver Wolf Christmas and the next thing I knew, the collar was sitting on the floor and both dogs were staring at it. I do need to begin training him though. Max is sooooo much better behaved and I can take him out and normally he comes to me with either a nudge from the collar or without it at all.

Okay, they really want out, so off to do potty duty.

And we’re back and they didn’t have to go….grrrr.

Not Everything is Black and White, but Sometimes Black and White is Just Right!

Not everything is 50 shades of gray, either. But, I often talk about how people truly aren’t all black and white. They aren’t all good or evil. They are all different.

I like color. Different shades and hues. Like a forest with millions of different colors of green.

When I see photographers take pictures and turn them into black and white works of art, I think it’s so cool. I’m not good at doing that.

But I decided to turn Max’s photo into a black and white, because he is black and white and when I take pictures of him in the house, they always turn him more cream colored. Or oftentimes.

So here is Max, before Tanner was chewing on his whiskers. Max’s hair is still in his eyes, but as it gets longer, it should be better. Thanks to Lin, who sent Max some smaller rubberbands that work much better.  🙂 <3
