A Weed or a Fern?

Do you have plants you can’t identify? I have this happen all the time. The whole area was forest at one time, so a lot of the plants that are popping up were native–like youpon holly (not shown, but I have several of them that volunteered to grow in the yard), the fern, and whatever the other plant is. I think it might be a fern of some kind. The silk and seeds are from a yellow flowering milkweed. You can see the yellow flowers behind it. I keep finding more crape myrtles in the flowerbeds. They are beautiful, but if I’m not careful, I will have a forest of them. lol

I’m also trying to propagate some of the sunny ligustrum to add to the yard. I don’t have a very big yard, so I have to be careful that I don’t lose my whole yard to plants!

I wrote several more scenes yesterday on Claiming, but need to write one more, I think. Hopefully, I can get it done today, but need to run an errand and the dogs aren’t leaving until later this afternoon. But I need to also start writing all the promo blogs for You Had Me at Jaguar.

So much to do. So little time!

Hope you have all kinds of time to do the fun things you enjoy doing!

Volunteers in the Garden

I was surprised to see the yellow “Sunshine” ligustrum pop up in a new spot. I didn’t think it would volunteer like that. Though I’ve never had one before, so what do I know? I planted it 3 years ago. In the one picture, you can see the yellow leafed shrub near the end of the flowerbed. That’s the mother plant. These are brand new shoots a distance from the original shrub. I never expected that! I kept thinking I needed something taller in the background on some of that flowerbed, and voila, there’s the solution. I thought the shadows and light were cool too.

In these photos, the ivy is native, just popped up. The woodland fern was the same way, part of the original forest. I have wild grape I keep cutting out as it will take over. And in among the coneflowers and marigolds, a crepe myrtle made it’s appearance. that’s one of those areas that everything is growing. The pine tree, rosebush, and now a youpon holly (also a volunteer) and then on the other side of the tree, bare naked soil. I think something has been digging there because I did have mulch there. In the pot with the pine tree sapling I’m growing for my daughter, I also started a crepe myrtle branch and it’s taking hold!

Sometimes volunteers can be a nuisance. Sometimes they make fun giveaways, or planted in the right place, free plants! Usually, they do really well–life will find a way.

Only 15,000 words left to write on SEAL Wolf Surrender!

Off to take care of baby! Have a great Friday!!!

Tomatoes in November

tomato-plant-900-044After the other tomato plants had died, I found 3 volunteers growing from tomato seeds scattered. And so I planted two in one of the tomato boxes and one in the yard. I REALLY didn’t think I’d have any tomatoes, despite the plants growing so tall. It’s chilly most mornings and evenings, but look, there they are and they’re evening beginning to ripen. Best part? No bugs. 🙂

Have a great Thursday!

I’m Not Really Behind…

I was thinking I was behind on posting my blog today. But in truth, I was cleaning out kitchen cabinets and getting boxes of stuff ready to give away. So that makes me not behind. Because I’m ahead in cleaning. Don’t you see? And I was getting stuff ready to ship.

Purple Bubblegum Bear

Purple Bubblegum Bear

This is the latest creation. New fabric. Isn’t she cute?

Fog at Sunrise

Fog at Sunrise

Love Fog

Love Fog

Yesterday, we had fog. Why is that cool? Besides making an interesting picture in depth perception, it’s just cool, for real. I mean, it’s been so hot, when it cools down, fog happens! And that makes it the coolest. The puppies got me up at 2:30 that morning, and it was still hot. At 7 am, it was much cooler. And that’s when the fog rolled in. I loved it. This morning? Hot.

Scissor-tailed Flycatcher

Scissor-tailed Flycatcher

And I caught a scissor-tailed flycatcher watching me. I had actually taken the camera out front to take more pictures of the cool fog and snapped a few of him.

And, and, and, then I found this!

White Crepe Myrtle

White Crepe Myrtle

A volunteer underneath my cypress tree. What’s so unusual about it? I have red, watermelon, and pink crepe myrtles. NO WHITE crepe myrtles. Until now. Isn’t that fascinating?

Life is truly wondrous.

Back to my regularly scheduled writing. But I’m in a real cleaning out mood. What should I tackle next?

Writing. 🙂

Have a super great Saturday!!!
