New Contract!

I just received the signed contract for 3 more books, due in in 2019 and due out in 2020, but I also have to write the novella for the 10th anniversary release of Legend of the White Wolf!

So these are the books that each will have a new novella, 10th anniversary releases and new covers. The new cover for Destiny of the Wolf is beautiful, but I don’t have the cover to show off yet (book release 2019 fall). And I’m looking forward to a new cover for Legend of the White Wolf since the cartoonish version doesn’t fit with any of the rest of my covers (book release 2020). They haven’t created it yet. The publisher was new in the field of romance when I signed on, so their art department was learning how to make really fantastic covers. Now they have their own model shoots and no more headless guys. Yay!

Now that I have a contract in hand, it means, no more procrastinating. Not that I am, mind you. I’m still trying to finish up Claiming the White Bear and I wrote 3,000 words on it yesterday. Only 14,000 words left to go. I also received the request for promo blogs for my next release: You Had Me at Jaguar, and I’ll be getting edits in for other books that I’ve written for 2019. It’s a Neverending Story, but a good one! I’m excited! I just need to finish up this book that I started last Christmas.

And yet, Christmas is coming shortly! Which means no writing that day. Oh, and instead of babysitting, I’m going to be dog sitting again. And…sigh…I keep thinking I HAVE to write another Highlander story. I LOVE them, have covers for them, but just need time to write my next one.

I’m off to get writing. Oh, have you ever gone to the grocery store and got everything on your list and then come home to realize you forgot more things because they weren’t on your list? I’m fixing a Christmas Eve Irish feast (corned beef, cabbage, carrots and potatoes), and a roast for Christmas. But I went to make a turkey sandwich last night (I get the small turkey breast and roast it and then I can still enjoy my turkey from time to time during the year) and realized, horrors! My mayonnaise jar is still running out, the bread is too, and my milk expired. Huh. When did that happen???

Have a lovely Friday and hope you’re having fun!!

Heart of the Wolf–Video Trailer and Icicle Photos

After ten years of wolves–and jaguars along the way–have you found your favorite wolf? Or big cat?

I’ve often been asked that, but in truth, every one of them is my favorite–the ones I’m working on at the time, the most favorite. They have to be, since I’m in their world, fighting the good fight, romancing the wolves (or jaguars), falling in love, righting the wrongs, unraveling the mysteries, enjoying the adventure that every story brings.

What is coming next for the brand new year? Heart of the Wolf and the novella, Night of the Wolf. I’ve already heard from some fans that they want to see more of the wolf pack.

 January 2, 2018

Book 1 in Terry Spear’s Heart of the Wolf series

 A Billionaire Wolf for Christmas

The cover is beautiful, but not approved for sharing yet…

October, 2018

Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Billionaire-Wolf-Christmas-Terry-Spear/dp/1492655848/

And I’ve submitted a proposal for two more wolf stories and another jaguar, these for 2019. So I’m waiting to hear whether they’re accepted or not. If so, that will mean another Silver Town wolf story, this one with Megan MacTire, Howard, the former Enforcer with the jaguars who takes on another Enforcer, who won’t let him get in her way, and another SEAL story–this one Vaughn’s brother, Brock’s story.

Stryker Hill’s cougar shifter book will be out also, another Highland medieval, Woodland Fae, and Claiming the White Bear!

In the meantime, I’m working on A Billionaire Wolf for Christmas’s edits! Just turned in All’s Fair in Love and Wolf!

And yes! I walked in the bitter cold to take pictures of the “ice sculptures” in Houston, Texas area.

Ice on palm fronds, puddle of ice where it fell off the tree, close up of icicles on a pine tree, slanted icicles on another tree, and you can see with the “waterfall” of ice on the one tree, the grass is covered in ice too.

I hope that your New Year is the best ever!!! I’ve got to get back to the book. I’m on ch 5, 31 chapters and an epilogue, so a way to go!

Variations on an Old Barn–And Heart of the Wolf–updated version is out!

The one photo is the original, captured at an angle as we were driving past on a bumpy road at 75 mph, bleak sky. I added a sky for mood on one of the shots. Using Topaz Studio, I created a black and white, painted, and HDR version also. The painted could have so many styles. I kind of liked the HDR because it emphasized the clouds hovering above the old barn.  But just adding clouds in the first one, really added to the feel of the picture. And then going from gloomy day to gloomier night…fun!

That’s just like writing too. Starting with a plain scene and giving it mood.

Heart of the Wolf comes out today. The re-release!!!

I’m in limbo, waiting to hear on if the next 3 books were picked up by my publisher and at the same time, I’m working on edits for All’s Fair in Love and Wolf, and I’m working on 4 different stories: Demon Hunter (halfway done, book 3 in the teen Demon Guardian series), Claiming the White Bear (1/7th done, adult books are 20K longer), and two vampire books in the Blood Moon teen series (Kiss of the Vampire, book 1 is out, Blood Moon, book 2 is 3/25ths done, but book 3 is 1/4th of the way finished. Go figure. 🙂 )

But I need to concentrate on Wolf edits today. I put away all my outdoor Christmas decorations, and the indoor ones, except for the Christmas tree. I can’t move it, so I’ll probably remove the decorations and just leave the lights on it for our New Year’s dinner on Saturday and the kids can help me take it down. It’s in three pieces, and I can’t ever get it apart by myself.

And I played some of Divinity Original Sin2, that I received for a Christmas gift, last night, but half the screen is black periodically. I’ve tried other configurations, and nothing is working. Which means I can’t play my game until the kids come over on Saturday and see if they can figure it out. Which is fine. I need to work!

I finally get to pick up the puppies today. They were closed yesterday. 🙁 If I’d known my daughter would have picked them up for me on Christmas Eve, I could have just run over and picked them up from her afterwards. If there’s a next time, that’s what we’ll do.

Okay, really off to work! Hope you are staying warm if it’s cold there. It’s cold here. Not like up north, but it’s still cold! Hope you have a great day, moody or otherwise!

Heart of the Wolf! & Triplet Bear Cubs

I was so busy writing My Highlander, love it when I’m in the zone, when I got the request for promo blogs for Heart of the Wolf, I was like, oh yeah, it’s coming in January!

B&N

Triplet bear cubs–so the Zoo thought that Momma and Daddy were too old to have cubs. What did they know? Where there’s a will….

I kept thinking my next release is Flight of the White Wolf! It’s coming in May, so a little time to do the promo blogs. Then All’s Fair in Love and Wolf (the Silver Town Wolves), cover is done, waiting on approval, and Billionaire Wolf Christmas (Oct), cover not done yet.

And I need to come up with my next 3 titles for Sourcebooks, those for 2018.  I keep forgetting about Heart of the Wolf coming out in January!!!

A new novella, Night of the Wolf, is included in the re-release. I reworked a scene and made some changes throughout in Heart of the Wolf. When I was asked to offer excerpts that were family-oriented, I was having a hard time. It’s sexy, it’s wolfish, and it’s romantic suspense. It’s not a book for kids. 🙂 But I did the blogs and so I’m back to focusing on My Highlander.

My goal is to reach 25,000 today on My Highlander. My puppies are telling me that before I do anything more at the computer, they want to be FED.

Have a lovely day…I’m off to tackle more Highlanders, AFTER I feed the puppies.

Fairy Mushrooms–Night and Day

Actually, the first one was taken in the early morning hours when it was really dark out, and the second, midday when it was pouring out.  See what a difference it makes when the lighting is different? From autumn moodiness to spring brightness.

That was supposed to be curly parsley that the fairies were tending to, but it looks like they started a mushroom garden instead. You know how the fae are.

I just got the final proofing for Heart of the Wolf for re-release in January. I didn’t know that I could make any changes to the actual book–I’d been working on the final changes to the novella I added–but they’re giving me the opportunity to make changes to the decade-old book. That’s like a redo button. Yay! What did I say ten years ago???? I have no idea.

Okay, behind on Billionaire still, and planned to catch up, but then….the proofing came and I always have like 2 weeks, and that’s it.

Off to work. Think we have more rain and it’s been flooding in some areas, so this is a great time to stay home and write/edit!

Have a lovely day!!

Heart of the Wolf–In the Beginning…

skipper-brown-butterfly-purple-days-purple-wolf-fall-in-love-024I was writing everything from fantasy and historical to romantic suspense and finally the paranormal, adult romance to children’s stories and young adult at a time when Indie publishing didn’t exist, and ebooks didn’t exist (am I dating myself or what?) Heck, personal computers didn’t exist! The Internet didn’t exist!!!! That meant typing my stories initially. Do you know how hard it is to type stories on a typewriter and cut and paste scenes?  I cut out scenes and taped them together to make the changes, then retyped them.  And you can’t make any mistakes.

Then there’s a problem with submission. Back then, you could submit without an agent, BUT, you had to learn who the new agents were by name, what they were interested in, no such thing as looking them up on the Internet! Books published listing agents were outdated by a year by the time they hit the stands!

When it came time to write my first adult novel, we had personal computers, yay! And the Internet had finally come to my small town in Oklahoma. And that was really the birth of writing for me.

But no Indie publishing for years, and ebooks, when they came into being–didn’t help much because very few readers had ereaders. Small publishers popped up all over the place to publish ebooks only, but until readers had devices to read on, they didn’t sell well. It’s like having a phone before anyone else does. No one to call, right?

So I finally landed some contracts with a couple of bigger publishers, which meant getting advances. With the little ones, no advances. Hope your books stick and sell. But one of the publishers dumped the young adult line a month before my first release came out. And then I sold Heart of the Wolf. It was my big break.

Fifteen years of writing.

To my mother, daughter, and son with all my love for their support in my writing endeavors

Excerpt from Heart of the Wolf:

Another crack.  Another stab of pain.  This time her right flank.  She stumbled when her back legs gave out.  What had they shot her with?  She panted, her heart racing as she tried to keep her wits.

The men crashed through the brush toward her.  The boots impacting with the earth radiated outward and the tremor centered in her pads.  She struggled to run.  Her heart rate slowed.

“Man, oh, man, I told you, didn’t I, Thompson?  He’s beautiful,” a tall man said, wearing camouflaged gear, his dark hair chopped short, the bill of a camouflaged baseball cap shading his eyes.  He approached her using caution.

She gave him a feral look that meant danger and dragged her back legs.  Work, damn you!  Work!  But no matter how much she willed her legs to push her forward, she couldn’t manage.  She sat, panic driving her to run, but unable to oblige as a strange numbness slipped through her body.  No longer able to sit up, she rolled over onto her side.  And watched the hunters approach with murder in her eyes.

“Damn!  He’s the biggest red wolf I’ve ever seen, Joe,” Thompson said as both drew closer, cautiously, the smell of fear cloaking them.  He was dressed like the other, only she could see his blue eyes wide with excitement.

She lifted her head, snarled, and snapped her teeth, but the futile effort cost her precious energy.  Exhausted, she dropped her head back to the forest floor, the bed of pine needles tickling her nose.

Joe crouched at her back, then pulled something from her hip.  A dart, not bullets.  Damn.  Her heart beat so slowly she thought she’d die.

“You sure as hell were right that a red wolf prowled these parts.  But they’ve been extinct for years.  How in the hell did he get here?  I mean, he couldn’t have traveled all the way from the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.”  Joe smelled of sweat and sex and a musky deodorant that wasn’t holding up under the pressure, nor was his flowery cologne hiding the body odor.

Thompson, a blond-haired, bearded man smelled just as sweaty and virile, but he wore no artificial sweeteners to attract the female variety.  She could hear his heart hammering against his ribs when he raised her back leg.

Unable to lift her head, she snarled, but the sound, muffled in sleep, didn’t have the threat she intended.

“He’s a she.  Damn.  How’d a female ever get this big?”

She growled, priding herself in being a red wolf, and small.  Sure for a real wolf she appeared big, but as a lupus garou

He ran his hand over her hind leg.  If she hadn’t seen him do it, she’d never have realized it, as numb as her leg was.  “Long legs, best looking red pelt I’ve ever seen on a feral wolf.”  He looked over at the dark-haired man.  “She’s in heat, Joe.  We’ll have to have her mated.”

Mate?  Great.  If they locked her in a room with a real red wolf…ohmigod, they couldn’t be planning on taking her to a zoo.

“That’d be the ticket.”  Joe lifted a cell phone to his ear.  “Hey, we got her!  Yeah, the wolf’s a she, not a he as I’d assumed.  No shit!  I told you I’d seen her running through here last weekend.”

Why hadn’t she seen these men?  Smelled their pungent odors?  Heard them?

She had let down her guard, and now she would pay.

“Yeah, she’s a big one.”  Joe nodded.  “Figured we’d get her with one dart…took two.”  He ran his hand over her side.  She attempted her most terrifying growl, but it sounded more like a sickly, low moan.  “Maybe 110 pounds, more the size of a gray.”  He chuckled.  “I know, I know, I told you she’s big.  No, not fat.  Lean as they come, just longer legged and longer bodied, and she has the prettiest red pelt you ever did see.”

He ran his hand over her back.  “Okay, we’ll pack her out of here.  Be there in about three hours.  Longer if she comes to.  The tranquilizers each were set for a 40-pound wolf, not one as big as she is.  But we didn’t want to overdo it.  And let ‘em know Big Red can have a mate now.  No need to get a loaner from the Melbourne, Florida zoo.  Unless she’s been mating with coyotes, she’s about due for a hunk of a red wolf.”

He laughed, undoubtedly amused at the response to his comment on the other end of the line.

She groaned inwardly.

“All right, out here.”  He turned to the blond.  “Seems a shame if she’s doing so well in these woods that we have to put her into captivity, Thompson.”

“Hey, like you said, she won’t find any of her kind around here.  We’re doing her a favor.”

Inwardly, she fumed, and if she hadn’t been so doped up, she’d have bitten both of them.

***

And that’s my story and I’m sticking to it!

Have a wonderfully, fun day!

Back to proofing White Wolf Christmas. Five more chapters to go!
