Blue Jay and Red Bellied Woodpecker Showdown

Who wins? The woodpecker is a juvenile and the blue jay normally doesn’t bow down to other birds. So what do you think? The woodpecker won. Sometimes, even if you’re the downtrodden little guy, the underdog, you still can make a difference.

Today is the bad, terrible, awful day. Yep, time for another bone marrow biopsy. It’s been about 5 months since I’ve had one, so much better than every month. But they’re awful, painful, and hurt for a couple of days or longer.

Got to run. Hope you have a fantastic day. Mine will be great once this is over. I have 5 other appointments also. Ugh.

Gnus Munching on Grass

Gnus were in Omaha. I wish my son still lived there. I had so much fun going to their zoo and wildlife reserve and all the parks and hiking trails, museums, etc.

Brrr, cold 35 this morning. But it will get to 60 today. Yay. Tomorrow will be 70! Even better. I would be happy to have 70 degrees year-round. lol

I managed to write another 1,000 words on Bear in Pursuit. I usually can get 2,000 words, but struggling to get 1,000 words right now per day. But I’m happy with how it’s coming along.

Warbler Juvenile Learning to Fly

I love them. I thought it was a very fat butterball goldfinch, until I realized it was a warbler. I got really close to her. She wasn’t sure about flying away. Really pretty little bird.

I finally managed a 1,000 words on Bear in Pursuit yesterday, hope to do more today. I’m kind of stuck on where to go on it.

Female Cardinal in My Backyard

Brrr, it’s cold. I’m just worried about the roads when I need to go to appointments tomorrow. I’ve been feeling poorly for the last 3 days. I think it’s the chemo pills.

TRAFFIC ALERT: The flyover ramp on I-10 westbound to SH-99 northbound is icy. Officials say an 18-wheeler had to reverse all the way back down and another 18-wheeler is still stuck at the top. Please be careful on the roads!

This is one of the roads I have to use to get to and from Houston. But there are several overpasses like this. Even if I go to the Woodlands, I have to take one of these to reach the hospital. It’s scary.

We didn’t lose our electricity!

Not feeling really great. Chemo, probably. I only managed to get a 1,000 words on Bear in Pursuit yesterday. I wish I felt better!

Hope you’re staying warm if you are in the frigid cold. It’s 24, feels like 14. Brrr.

Woodpeckers Courting

It’s kind of hard to see, but the male has his head turned to the left, and the female down below has her head turned to the right. She’s “ignoring” him, but really, she wouldn’t be that close to him if she wasn’t interested. They had been racing up and down the tree before.

So cute.

Well, we might have 3″ of ice this weekend. It’s not bad today. We do have rain for today but it’s going to be around 60 degrees. I’m glad because I have blood work to do and didn’t want to have to cancel on that.

I did manage to get 1600 words done on Bear in Pursuit yesterday. Not sure what I’ll do on it today. When I have appts, I usually get behind.

Where’s the Water?

Cardinal in my backyard.

We are supposed to get ice and sleet this weekend, so I need to bring out my water warmer for the fountain to keep it flowing for the thirsty birds.

I managed 3,000 words yesterday. Which is good, considering I didn’t think I would get anything written. I just wasn’t feeling well. I feel better this morning, at least. 🙂

This is a juvenile with spots on its body still. When I saw several like this, I wondered what they were. lol

Okay, it’s cold. We might get ice storms this weekend. I’ll be staying home.

I’m off to work on Bear in Pursuit. I think I have 14K now.

Meerkat on Duty

I took the photo of the meerkat at the Cameron Park Zoo. Love them.

I didn’t get very far on Bear in Pursuit yesterday. Only 500 words. I couldn’t figure out where I was going with the story, so I’ve been thinking. And then I had a thought. So I’m going to try and incorporate another idea in the story and maybe that will help me jumpstart it. 🙂

It’s 30, feels like 26 this morning. Brrr.

Okay, I’m off to try and get somewhere on the story today.

The Buzzard

Beautiful bird of prey! I took the photo at a Ren Faire.

Trying to get ready for blood work. I was glad to see that next week I can go closer to home and early in the morning. These later-day appts mean rush-hour traffic in Houston.

I’m off to get a little more proofing done on Cougar Christmas Catastrophe. I think I’m on ch 5. I managed 1,000 words also on Bear in Pursuit.
