Photo of a bird that shares an enclosure with a Dik-Dik. I don’t remember the name of the big bird. The Christmas wreath texture is from Daily Textures.
My son arrived safely with his dog after 15 hours of driving. Mishka is on my lap and my dogs are waiting for my son to get up–they’ve all been fed and taken outside, birds fed. I’m about to battle more monsters for writing goals. I think I managed 7,000 words yesterday. I reached 22K on A Date with a Wolf, and added more to Dangerous Liaisons, another vampire romance, at 27,704, and Warrior Elf (YA), 16K, and Bite of the Vampire (YA), 18,600. I added 6K to the novella, but on the other books a few hundred each. That’s what’s fun about the battling monsters. Once I have my word goal plus on the deadline book, I can add more content to other stories not on deadline to get some more word count in.
We are going on a drive to see a special exhibit this afternoon–drive through, more on it later, and having lunch at home and unfortunately shopping for a few items at the grocery store. He’s making a curry rice dish and forgot his curry powder, his grinder for coffee and I figure I’ll pick up some cabbage and carrots to make corned beef and cabbage for everyone one of these days.
I forgot that Miskha is a woofer. Not barking loudly, but I’m finding myself shushing her constantly while my son is still sleeping.
I’m off to write before he gets up and we’re on our way to the store.
What am I? This was a bird at one of the zoos, and I just thought it had such pretty plumage, I had to capture it, but he wouldn’t look my way to get a nice face shot.
I was shifting through stories I’ve started before–two of my favorite, both vampire stories. One is the 2nd story in a YA series, and the other is the next vampire adult book. Both are at about 25K. I want to finish them!
But I’m back to Cougar Christmas Calamity, want to get this out before they stop publishing for the holidays.
We have 100% chance of rain today. I think it’s raining now, and will be through the early evening.
Love the rain. Off to get to work! Have a great day!
We had more rain! We are supposed to have more today late this afternoon. Yay! It helps to break up the miserably hot, sunny days. The temperature is going back up again by Friday, so I’m enjoying the cooler days. I need to weed more, but I’ve got to run an errand first thing this morning, so I’ve taken my walk, put out the garbage, fed the dogs, all that routine stuff, and oh, yeah, I did pull up some spent sunflowers.
I wrote 5,000 words yesterday! Yay! I’m over halfway done. Like by 2,000. Not like near the end. But when I started, I have to remind myself, I didn’t have anything close to 42,000, so I’ve come a long way, baby.
I was so behind on writing last week–had little one on Monday and Wednesday and Friday and Saturday. I had planned to get my 3,000 on Saturday after she went home. I only managed a 1,000 words after taking care of little one until 10 and then we all got together and they took her home at 11. I was so tired, I didn’t get much done. Even so, on Sunday I ended up filling a 40 gal bag of weeds before I really sat down to write 5,000 words yesterday.
Which proves to me that I can do both and still get a lot of writing done. So no excuses!
Happy Father’s Day to all those great fathers out there!
I did not plan to go to any store again. I didn’t. I have been keeping the 2 week rule on going to the grocery store, and that was on Thursday. Then Friday, my daughter and I ran to the lumber place. She needed to replace a couple of fence rails and I was going to get a couple as standby. No fence rails. We got bark mulch. We planned to get some coffee at Starbucks, drive-thru–it was closed for cleaning, COVID-19 case probably found. It’s serious. It’s not going away any time soon. It’s a reminder. Stay home.
Two of our Texas cities are in the number top cities for COVID-19 rises–San Antonio and Dallas. Thankfully, some of the big cities, like Houston that I live next to, found a loophole in the governor’s ruling that we can’t enforce mask wearing. Maybe not, but businesses can. The big cities are more at risk. It’s unbelievable how many people I see not wearing masks.
On a neighborhood site, people asked why others aren’t wearing masks. “Oh, well, we would, if it was mandatory.” Uhm, so you have to be told by Mother and Father that it might save lives–maybe even your own and your family’s–to wear a mask and now you can’t go places if you don’t do what they say?????
Houston has become one of the cities requiring mask wearing. Unfortunately, I live in a city bordering it and it’s not mandatory here.
Maybe, just maybe, if people were doing social distancing and wearing masks, we wouldn’t have to be shut down again. You think? Get. A. Clue. All or none, because people believe it’s all gone. It won’t happen to me. I won’t be a statistic.
So today, I was not going anywhere. But then my daughter invited me to come over for Father’s Day. I went out to get my son-in-law some presents, and of course–little one. Not presents, but more pre-K workbooks and puzzles as she’s just learning how to do the 24-piece ones.
At least when I go at 7, there are hardly any people there except for employees and I feel for the ones who have to work there. Though some of them aren’t wearing masks either.
What I don’t get is when people don’t wear masks, sometimes they also defy the distance thing. Two women, no masks, headed straight for me, defiant. They could have gone on the other side of the packages of food. They weren’t shopping for anything where I was. I shot down an aisle I didn’t plan to use. Call me a coward, but…
Live dangerously, take the risk, but don’t share it with me.
Have a happy and safe day! And thanks to all those well-deserving dads out there. Make your kids’ lives matter!
So I went to blog yesterday, and they changed everything up again. Please, leave things alone. *sigh*
Red rosebud getting ready to bloom. I love red flowers in the garden. I love purple, but red is really showy. And the butterflies and hummingbirds agree. The bees love any color. They’ll “flock” to my holly’s white flowers in spring even. But I have yellow, lavender, hot pink flowers, and still, the hummingbirds and butterflies prefer the red flowers above all else.
And, did I mention it’s showy? When I see a row of red roses or red-flowering crape myrtles or azaleas, they catch my eye more than white or any other color. I love the combination of red and purple. And some yellow makes for a pretty scene. But green evergreens help to bring it all together. In my humble opinion.
So for the last two days, I was trying to work on Vampire Redemption, Highland Wolf edits, and shipped off books to readers. I also dropped off my tax paperwork, and picked up plants and dirt, the fun part of the day!
I picked up red pentas, a hummingbird and butterfly magnet, and a pink hibiscus, they didn’t have red, so I got pink for my granddaughter because that is her favorite color, and a couple of citronella plants. Now, they said they stave off mosquitoes. NOT true. They have to have their leaves crushed to do that. False advertising!
Okay, so I’m working of vampire redemption edits this morning, have 1 more scene to write. I need to start proofing Highland Wolf and then send it off. And I need to ship another 30 books or so today. Oh, and plant!!!
I planted 20 of the pentas last night, a bunch of flower seeds, have more, and I need to plant the hibiscus and some salvia seeds.
Have a fun day! Mine is happily busy. No little one. Spring Break. Yay, for Grandma! Which means I really have to get stuff done with the unexpected extra time on my hands. Yay!
Love the cardinals and on a wet, rainy day I managed to get some halfway decent shots of the female.
Today is a free day so I’m hoping to get a little more caught up on Highland Wolf. I turned in Wolf in Need–beta reader didn’t like the title so changed it to Wolf in Mind and sent in the Letter to Reader. That’s for the 10th Anniversary Edition of Wolf Fever coming in November. It’s done! Yay!
I am 7,000 behind on Highland Wolf so hope to get 2-3,000 today. But I also need to start working on the dreaded taxes. ugh.
A little chickadee in three different moods. It’s like writing too. Stories have mood. Scenes have mood. You have moods.
I managed to get 2,000 on Wolf in Need and 2,000 words on Highland Wolf! Now when I say that, it’s usually more. I just have to get the 2,000. The day before yesterday, it was 2273 on Highland Wolf. Last night it was 2375. And on Wolf in Need, I’m 55 words closer to my goal today.
The dishwasher repairman is supposed to come today. Yay!
I managed to fight all the monsters over again in Tower of Time, after I did the wrong thing for one of my characters in a challenge and she wasn’t balanced. Can’t have that. Luckily, I had saved an early game, but had to go through all the battles again. So now I’m on the 8th floor in the tower. Yay!
And it’s going to be warm again today, which means I’ve got to do more yard work. Tomorrow little one will be here and it’s supposed to be rainy and cold. For us. It’s all relative. It’s certainly not cold like it is up north. Here, we have lots of flowers blooming.
Okay, I’m off to write before these guys get here. Between 8-12. Will they arrive at 8? I’m ready! But I’m not counting on it!
I managed to get 4,000 words, while taking pictures of the birds in the rain. It rained, and rained, and rained yesterday. It was wonderful. We haven’t had much lately and it’s so nice to have a change of pace. Particularly since I wasn’t going anywhere, and the lighting was perfect for bird photography.
Yes, starlings are bad birds, like blackbirds and cowbirds that chase away all the other birds for the food. But this one, maybe it’s checking things out before it tells all its other friends to come and get it, but it didn’t bite. And it left, but not before I managed a few shots of it. I’ve never seen one before, so that’s always fun.
Okay, Little One should be here any second, and I’ve got to get ready. Non-word count day. But maybe I’ll get a little done when she leaves.
I finished edits on Night of the Billionaire Wolf and turned it in. Yay! Now I’m back to Red Wolf Christmas. It’s due in 2 weeks and I’m still working on it. It would be all right if I had it finished and was just editing it, but…it’s not finished. ugh.
This morning I moved a scene to a couple of chapters earlier. Which changes things for the next about 3 chapters. The butterfly effect. I haven’t figured out the ending, or what ties everything together yet. sigh. It’s got to come soon!
Okay, I’m off to work on it and hope your day is beautifully orchestrated.
