Who is the Alpha Here?

red-bellied woodbecker and dove at the feeder (640x546)You know, if you don’t take turns, neither of you feel comfortable to eat. Who won?

woodpecker with dove and suet in beakBoth. The dove got a beak full or two of suet.

woodpecker coming over top to get suet (640x505)And then the red-bellied woodpecker did.

I shared my tomatoes with two of my neighbors and my daughter and SIL. I had no idea I’ve have that many tomatoes from three plants!

Back to working on the SEAL wolf book!

Have a great day!!

Storms and More Storms

The electricity and internet stayed on. We had lightning constantly. Thought I was video-recording it, but nope.

red bellied woodpecker pepper suet (640x427)During an earlier storm, the red-bellied woodpecker braved it to grab bites of the hot pepper suet.

lightning sheet (640x427)It was pitch black  and pouring rain at 5 am. This is sheet lightning lighting up the darkness.

The storms are abating until this afternoon.  I think. I hadn’t expected them to go on so late into the night and start up with a vengeance again at 3 am and finally fade out at about 6 am.

So I’m off to write. Have a great day!!!

Birds of a Feather–Nope…

red-bellied woodpecker and blue jayIt was really shaded out when the red-bellied woodpecker and blue jay came to roost on the two feeders. It’s the only time I’ve seen them eat at the same time without scaring the other off, so though it’s not the best shot in the world, the fact they were eating together was pretty neat.

blue jay flying off and red bellied woodpecker on feedersI tried to download my files from Carbonite. Only through story B downloaded. ugh. So I’ve got to find out what its problem is. But when I went to disable Win updates while the files were downloading, I realized the the new hard drive had automatic updates, which is probably why Win 10 downloaded. So I’ve changed it to ASK me first, and I will decide.

🙂 Have a super great day!

Mom and Pop Cardinal

I’m sure they have a nest nearby. They were at the feeder constantly today all day long. They only stopped eating for a little bit while a blue jay ate there and a red-bellied woodpecker.

red bellied woodpecker tossing seeds (640x427)The red-bellied woodpecker is tossing seeds, like a finicky eater. Instead of just digging for what he wants, he throws the other seeds out of the tray. I think this one’s smaller than the other I had.

purple party bear (608x640)I finished up a Purple Party Bear that’s ready to ship along with 2 other bears, and another that belongs next door. 🙂

While I was working on the bear, the puppies were totally worn out.

Max and Tanner tired (640x427)What a life, eh?

And!!! I kept up with my word count. 🙂 <3

Have a great day!

Some Weird Looking Squirrel

woodpecker and white bear 108 (640x357)That’s what Tanner was thinking. He’s used to seeing a squirrel, never pays any attention to the birds unless a blue jay or dove is up there, but the woodpecker is something altogether different. It just didn’t look like the normal kind of squirrel at all.

woodpecker and white bear 001 (640x427)Hey, guys, can you please look this way? What’s over there that’s so interesting anyway? I loved their poses.

woodpecker and white bear 011 (640x427)Hey, little guy on the left, get with the program.

woodpecker and white bear 013 (640x427)I kept trying to catch the little guy on the left because he had such striking markings.

Okay, another bear to do, but finally finished this one!

white bear 154 (640x427)Have a super, wonderful Monday!!! 🙂

Cardinals, Blackbirds, Woodpeckers and Puppies, Oh My!

cardinal, blue jay, woodpecker, puppies new haircut 002 (640x640) (2) cardinal, blue jay, woodpecker, puppies new haircut 007 (640x489)

No comb. Big comb. Female cardinal without her mate. He came in and took off. She hung around for me to take pictures. 🙂

I’ve missed two days of blogs!!! But I’ve been really working hard at: Converting a book that had been with a publisher that is now back in my hot little hands. Deadly Liaisons. AND, I was tying it in with the other 3 vampire novels. They’re all about huntresses and romance, and taking down the bad vampires. I’m more than a quarter of the way done on the next one in the series, and actually have a 10,000-word start on another. But still working on Golden Fae.

And, I finished making changes to The Viking’s Highland Lass coming out on April 4th and am in the process of finalizing the print book. I need to work on Deadly Liaisons print book also.

So I took a break last night to clip puppy hair back from their eyes. Well, I sort of overdid it on Max, but I love seeing their eyes. 🙂

cardinal, blue jay, woodpecker, puppies new haircut 088 (427x640)cardinal, blue jay, woodpecker, puppies new haircut 089 (427x640)Oh, my, what big eyes you have!

The cardinal didn’t plan for a blackbird dinner companion.

cardinal, blue jay, woodpecker, puppies new haircut 085 (640x427)The red-bellied woodpecker was on the tree right behind where the cardinal was sitting on the shepherd’s pole, but he wasn’t in the pictures when I looked at them.

Okay, The Viking’s Highland Lass’s print book is ready for proofing, so off to read through it again.

Happy, happy TGIF!!!!!

Happy Easter Weekend!

Easter picture (338x357)puppies before breakfast, storms, lavender 004 (640x427)It was still a stormy day, and I took a picture of the lavender and rosebush, only this is the pastel picture I got. Interesting, eh?

red-bellied woodpecker 003 (445x640)I know this is a woodpecker, but all I’m getting is tail feathers. lol Why is it they like to hide from me? I just want to take a picture! So the woodpecker flew off and then came back later, and this time, yes!!! I could even see which kind it was. A red-bellied woodpecker eating sunflower seeds.

woodpecker 018 (458x640)

And I’m actually keeping up with my word count on Golden Fae! And I’m still working on a couple of bear orders. 🙂

I managed to plant one of the plants I needed to. It’s great for hummingbirds and butterflies. Golden Esperanza.

Esperanza 001 (640x427)Esperanza 006 (563x640)And caught a cardinal on the feeder before I closed things up for the night.

Have a lovely Saturday!!! I was critiquing my partner’s Highland story, so back to Jaguar proof-reading. 🙂

Why Do They Call Him Red-bellied?

Do you ever wonder where they come up with some of these names?

red bellied woodpecker 053 (640x427)

The woodpecker obviously has a red head. Where are his red-bellied feathers? There’s a slight tinge to his chest.

red bellied woodpecker 033 (640x427)But when he flew to the feeder, I could see just where his red belly was! Lower down, and his chest was a very pale red.

Beautiful.

When Thoughts Become Reality

Inventions, well, yes. Writing books, sure. But what I was thinking about is more psychic in nature. Oh, not really psychic, no woo-woo factor, but, well, maybe a little.

Have you ever thought something, like you’re suddenly thinking of a person and it’s been a long time since you talked to them, and… voila, they email or call you?

Or you think about something–like you should have received something in the mail weeks ago, and forgot all about it, but there it was, foremost on your mind, and it arrives?

So I wast thinking about how all I was seeing were sparrows and goldfinches and doves and that the cardinals had never returned.

And then they were there. A couple. They mate for life and are truly beautiful. But it seemed so odd that I should be wondering about them after, I don’t know, a couple of weeks had passed and no sign of them? And they’d only dropped in once or twice in the over a month that I’ve been here?

cardinals on the fence (640x427)I was thinking too about the woodpecker I’d missed capturing a picture of the day before. My camera wasn’t at hand. And he never returned. And I’d never seen him before. And then I was typing as fast as I could on the end of my book, which always happens at the end of my book, the scenes come to me fast and furiously, and I’m like, whoa, hold up, I can only type so fast, and just one at a time. and then here the woodpecker lands on the feeder.

I may never see him again. I many never remember the scene again. What do I do? I grab my camera. lol

redbellied woodpecker (538x640)I just had to capture the red-bellied woodpecker because I had to find out what he was.

And I was thinking how I hadn’t seen the little chickadee but maybe twice since I’d been here and it had been eons for him too. And then he came.

chickadee 015 (640x465)

All of them. In the same day. Thankfully not all at the same time like the scenes for the book were popping into my head.

And now I’ve been wondering if I’ll ever see the pretty bluebird again.

Maybe he’ll pop in for a picture or two soon.

Do you ever do that? Wonder about something and then out of the blue, it’s there? The call? The sighting? The connection?
