Turkey is Not Just Good for Thanksgiving…

thanksgiving-ceramic-turkey-900-438240Or Christmas. I’ve had it in the middle of the year. Why wait for a holiday for something so good?

Goodbye Thanksgiving, Here Comes Christmas!

Excited to have my whole family here for Christmas. My son is usually overseas, and I have my daughter and SIL every Christmas, which I love. But this year, the whole gang will be here and we’re all going to see Star Trek together! My son loves to cook, so he’s making some delicious side dishes. I’ll make the turkey, and Jenn loves to make some dishes, soooo, it’s a family affair and I can’t be more excited!!

So next up is Alpha’s Unwrapped releasing December 1st. I can’t believe December is nearly here. I’m so not ready for it!

But the time doesn’t standstill for anyone.

And I’m here with a giveaway, so just drop by and comment for a chance!

So here is an excerpt from Covert Cougar Christmas by me!

Christmas tree with lights in winter

“Fourteen hundred and some pocket change. So not too bad. The angels are really going over big this year. And the naughty elf wooden ornaments from Denmark too.”

Christmas Ornaments from Denmark

Christmas Ornaments from Denmark

Or they might have been from Sweden. My mom got them years and years and years ago. And this is all that’s left of them. But they’re what gave me the idea in the story. Oftentimes I will include some real life stories in my stories.

Hope you had a lovely weekend. It’s been raining and raining and raining and raining here. And REALLY cold. I had to get out warmer clothes gloves, hat so I’m not rushing the dogs in and out. I keep expecting the temperature to go back to it’s usually warm state. The frigid north has settled in at least for another day. And then in the low sixties next week. And no rain.

So back to work on Viking!! Have a super Sunday!!!

I think these are Pencil or Skyrocket Boxwood. They’re evergreen, grow really tall, and remain really narrow.

Okay, and I’m back to cleaning and decorating. 🙂

Have a great Black Friday! Are you going anywhere? Eating anything special? Me? Turkey!

Fall Colors and Jacques Le Jester Bear

Pear Fall Leaves

Pear Fall Leaves

I was getting ready to have dinner when I saw the pear tree in fall colors. I had to stop what I was doing and run out with the camera. We don’t get much in the line of fall colors here, so I was excited. 🙂 And I’m working on a jester bear for a possible order. An earlier one I made won first place for Best Dressed Bear.

Editor Requested Synopsis–Forensics, Cops, Adding to Stories…

Wooden Turkey (640x468)

I watch a lot of forensic shows, Cops shows, Snapped, etc, because I get ideas for stories. Often not right then. But like in SEAL Wolf Hunting, one of the men in the story is suspected of committing a crime, and SEAL Paul tells him his story is full of holes–that criminals do stupid things, so that doesn’t automatically indicate he didn’t commit the crime. But he uses a true couple of scenarios to illustrate his point. Both were Cops stories that I had watched some years back and always stuck in my mind and had laughed about. They were so dumb, but some criminals just are. This picture made me think of two of the Forensics shows. The clock sitting here means I took the picture at the time shown on the clock, right? But the clock hasn’t run for years. LOL 🙂

Anyway, so during the holidays, I usually get requests for edits. It just seems the editors are getting caught up on their reading as submissions slow down. Word to the wise, you might have heard that everyone takes a break over the holidays and no one reads submissions. Not true. I’ve had full manuscript requests during the holidays. And as you can see from the situation with me, I often have requests for stuff by the editorial staff over the holidays. So right now, I’m rewriting the synopsis for the book that I had written before the book was written. What is the problem with this? I have NO idea what I’m going to actually say in the book. So I had lots of things happen that I had no clue about. My characters are total rogues.

And as I’ve been rewriting this, I’m like, wow, I really was clueless. Yes, some of the details were there, but most were not as important as what really happened because I didn’t know what would happen.

When I was a kid in school, we were always required to write an outline and then write our paper. It never worked for me. The teachers had some notion that planning out your paper was the best thing to do before you wrote it. Now, for plotters, yes, it works. But I’m a seat of the pants, pantser, writer, and it just doesn’t work for me. As I’d begin to do research for my paper, I’d realize that I’d need to go in a whole new direction. I’ve done that with my books too. And so what happens? The outline/synopsis is not anything like what I thought I was going to write.

If I could write the outline with the paper and turn it in, I was good to go. I would write my paper, and then write the outline. 🙂 But some teachers were out to get my kind, so they’d make us turn in an outline BEFORE we wrote our paper. No getting around that. 🙂

Everyone is unique in the way we think, the way we accomplish something. If you take a group of people to accomplish a mission, and asked each how they would do it, based on backgrounds, personalities, moral compasses, etc, each will have different ideas. We could see this in business models when I was in Grad school, or when I was in leadership reaction or other courses in Army ROTC where a leader was required to ask of his squad if anyone had different ideas of how to accomplish some mission. Some ideas will be better than others. But it’s really interesting to see this. Even my dad, when he was a prisoner-of-war in Germany, submitted his ideas to a committee on how to escape the POW camp. He was 16, so no one paid much attention to him, but he actually did escape twice on his own during death marches.

News Flash: Heard an elephant on the roof and thought it was a cat, ran to the windows, no cat. Then saw a squirrel! Tried to take a picture but it wouldn’t come out. My birds are all but gone because of the hawk. Maybe also because of the annoying cat, that isn’t mine, prowling around, but the squirrel is brand new. I’ve seen one of the bunnies too. Never had a squirrel out here before. But my live oak trees have gotten old enough that they’re starting to produce nuts, and my red oak tree is….

Okay, back to synopses….so I’m stuck rewriting one and need to turn it in today.

The moral of the story is do the job your way and it will get done–probably better than if you had to do it in some weird way that doesn’t work for you.

Are you ready for the holidays?

Still proofing Call of the Cougar print version. Then it’s back to Phantom Fae. 🙂

Have a super great Monday!! The good thing about Mondays, is they only happen once a week.

More Bears Ready to Ship! Anderson Clan, Ross Clan, and Douglas Clan Bears!

Anderson Clan Bear

Ross Clan Bear (640x571)

Ross Clan Bear

Douglas Clan Bear

Douglas Clan Bear

Six more bears finished, but I still need to take pictures of the others. These are the 3 latest Clan bears, Ross Clan, Douglas Clan, and Anderson Clan. I also need to make Davidson Clan Bear, but the fabric never arrived from Scotland, so they’re sending another.

I’m working on A Silver Wolf Christmas, halfway done, and I put up the Christmas tree, just the tree, because my son has to be away over Christmas, so we’ll have an early Christmas. Which means I’ve got to get on the ball and shop really fast! I haven’t actually decorated it yet, just have the lights on. I’ll do the rest first part of next week. I usually put up the tree the day AFTER Thanksgiving, but when I told my son I was decorating for Christmas, he was thrilled because he didn’t get to see anything decorated for Christmas last year either since he was doing the same thing then. And it’s my daughter’s birthday, so we’re celebrating that also. Lots of fun. I have to shop for that too. LOL See, if they just wanted my bears and books, I’d be all set. 🙂

And I’ve been sealing the grout for the new tile. The tile guys said it would be $600. The other man, $300. I picked up a gallon jug and it’s $32. I just did the bathroom and have to do the laundry room next. It’s super easy, but I have a lot of grout to do. I want to get it done before too many come and walk all over it.

I’ll be shipping bears today and getting groceries. Have to start thinking about Thanksgiving!

I’m back to working on A Silver Wolf Christmas. I finished 6 bears yesterday and put up the tree, or I would have been further along on the book. I also asked a cover artist if she could create a cover for a book that my editor turned down and hope to have it edited and coming out early next year. And I’ve commissioned another artist to redo the cover for Kiss of the Vampire, and she has done a 2nd cover for the Blood Moon Series. As soon as she has finished them, I’ll show them here. Can’t wait to show them off. 🙂

And that’s it! Got to get back to editing.  Have a lovely Thursday!

Happy Veteran’s Day! And…I DON’T Do Lists

Happy Veteran’s Day! Supposedly, Olive Garden is doing a special free meal for veterans, and I think I’ll brave the cold and drop by there for lunch. I need to run a million errands, so figure I’ll do that too. 🙂 <3

My whole family abounded with veterans–Mother, Father, BIL, Sister, Me, Son, Daughter was in AF ROTC, but decided it wasn’t for her. And my grandfather was a doctor in the Canadian Army during WWI, and we even had an ancestor in the Black Watch. My mother’s grandfather was one of Teddy Roosevelt’s Rough Riders. And one of our ancestors had come over with a Hessian prince who landed in Quebec, and then took the mercenary soldiers into the colonies where he deserted because he didn’t want to fight the American Patriots, but instead joined the militia in Quebec. Even another great grandfather, who didn’t serve in the military, broke horses for the cavalry in WWI. And one of my father’s grandfathers was in the Merchant Marines and though they didn’t fight in wartime, they were in some of the action.

So Happy Veteran’s Day to all those veterans, past, present, and future, and to their families who have cared for them in sickness and health, and stuck by them.

A SEALinWolfClothing

Now, I used to be a list maker. I had a list I’d make every day and it would drive me crazy if I didn’t finish everything on my list and then I’d accomplish stuff not on my list and I’d feel horrible that it wasn’t on my list and I didn’t get “credit” for it. LOL

I even went as far as adding them to my list just so I could mark them off!

So I quit making lists. Except when I’m on a shopping trip. I have to or I forget some of the stuff I’ve got to get–oddball stuff.

But as far as goal stuff, no.

Yesterday, my primary goal was to proof the audiobook version of Her Highland Hero, and if I had time, to write the Christmas blog I needed to for a magazine. I did both. It was an all-day affair from 4:30 in the morning until 6:30 PM and then I began writing the Christmas blog, and then I realized I hadn’t made the cover for Her Highland Hero’s audiobook, so had to do that. Then I started reading A Silver Wolf Christmas one last time. Got through chapter 1, then it was time for bed. I don’t just sit there and listen to an audiobook all day. I also was moving stuff. I have family coming in for the holidays, and I have 4 more windows being replaced this weekend, so I’ve been moving stuff out of the way, and putting stuff away that, well, doesn’t need to be out. More on that later. 🙂

This morning, I sewed up 3 bears, 2 Scottish bonnets and 2 Scottish sashes, first thing. I still have to stuff the bears, put them together, and finish them up, and sew on sashes and bonnets on another 2 bears, then embroider their paws, but that was one of my priorities today. Next, is to work on A Silver Wolf Christmas. I will be reading it for the rest of the day. And probably tomorrow because I desperately need to run errands. I need more boxes to ship bears, for one thing.

You see how I have no word count goals this week? Poor Phantom Fae has been put to the side. But I need to get A Silver Wolf Christmas finished and sent off to my editor. And I need to finish proofing the audiobook for Huntress for Hire and send it off to the narrator to make the changes. And I will be getting back the changes on Her Highland Hero and need to approve it. I need to finish up Call of the Cougar, still waiting on one beta reader’s input. And I need to finish 14 bears. They’re all in process! Either made and need paws embroidered, need clothes made, the bears need to be made, just something. And I need to reread The Vampire…In My Dreams and republish it. And then, I need to get back to Phantom Fae, with a clear conscious.

Wait, was that a list I just made?

🙂

Have a super wonderful, and if you’re in Texas, cold Tuesday! 🙂 <3

Pumpkins for the Clouded Leopard

clouded leopard watching (800x608)

I’ve never seen a clouded leopard in person before. So this was fun for me. But also, the two they had at the Houston Zoo, both had their own pumpkins. The other cat hid his before I could get a picture of him, pumpkin in mouth, leaping to an upper platform.

2 clouded leopards (800x341)

They’re kind of strange looking, compared to a regular leopard, but interesting too.  Tomorrow, I’ll share about the two leopards in the next exhibit, only they were fighting. 🙂
