Cardinals–Daddy, Mama, Babies

I saw a male cardinal with a harem, until I caught one of the babies up close, and then realized two of the “females” were juveniles, and the one is probably a male. 🙂 <3

The cardinal in the nest were at my old home. I never did see the babies, but I didn’t want to disturb them too much either. I didn’t even know they were there until I went to the “barn” and discovered her in the youpon holly tree right next to one of the windows.  I didn’t have that great a zoom lens at the time either. If you look really closely at the center of the nest, you can see a baby cardinal with its beak open, waiting for a meal. The other is next to him, but it’s harder to see.

We had lovely rains yesterday evening, and my SIL fixed my computer!!! Which meant I didn’t write as much as I wanted to. But I’m over halfway done. And I walked the baby for over 3.5 miles, and so that was good too! Both my daughter and son-in-law have been sick, so they didn’t want me helping out for the past week, which is why I got so much done on the new book.

It goes to show I’ve been slacking off before this. lol

Wrong Days, Wrong Weeks

My computer is moving way slower than I am today. Don’t you hate that when it happens???

So yesterday, I was working hard to get lots more word count on Cougar Undercover, Dan’s story, (I’m at 26,000, in 3 days, not bad), playing around with a cover for it, and working on one for Chet’s story too, Christmas Cougar, another novella in the Christmas themed cougar stories with the Cougar Special Forces Agency.  I have the couple I want to use in Stryker’s story, but haven’t worked on the cover too much. Having a cover to look at helps me to write the story. Dan’s faux wife turned out to be a brunette, to my surprise.

When they’re finished, I’ll share.

I write romance, so I love statues that give that romantic feel. She’s either kissing him, or she’s whispering sweet nothings in his ear. What do you think? 🙂

Sooooooo, yesterday, I thought it was Wednesday, until I heard the garbage truck and realized it was Thursday. So I was thinking I might have enough time to actually write Cougar Undercover before I have to start on Billionaire Wolf Christmas. Somehow, I slipped a week, and I was thinking, oh no, I only have 6 days to finish this story. And I need to do the edits on Dreaming of the White Wolf Christmas too. So my excitement winked out.

Until I saw the date on my computer this morning. It’s only the 19th?????? Yay!!! So if I don’t have trouble writing the scenes, I can do it! Or if life doesn’t get in the way. Or other book edits.

This morning I had 3 female cardinals and one male visit the bird feeders. The male has chased other males away, but a harem of females? That works for him. 🙂

Okay, I’m off to write. Have some whimsy in your life, just for fun. 🙂

So, I finished The Bounty Hunter Gets Her Wolf, and I need to start on Billionaire, but haven’t decided on an opening yet, and so I started Cougar Undercover yesterday, and wrote 9,000 words!

Now if I could keep that pace up, I’d have it done in 9 days. Ha! Course it never works that way. The brain gets bogged down. The ideas begin to recede into the gray matter and I have to coax them out. Dig them out. Yank them out. Or leave them alone until they come home, wagging their tails behind them.

Before that happens, I’m off to write more of Sheriff Dan Steinecker’s story. Everyone will finally learn all about his mystery wife and the trouble she is.

Shootouts, near escapes, fighting, you name it–it’s got to be the cougars at it again! No wonder I’m having so much fun in the middle of it!

Bears and Books

I finally finished up a couple of bears this weekend, because I had finished The Bounty Hunter Gets Her Wolf!!

Playing around with a composite while waiting for Mother’s Day to begin. I took the picture of the wolf in Ely, MN, and the woods when my daughter and I were walking the baby. 🙂 <3

I’ve been looking over the myriad of other stories I’ve written, adding a 1,000 words here or there to them, all that I love, but knowing I need to get to work on the next wolf book first. Still, I need a break, so I’m playing around with my other books for a couple of days, trying to come up with an opening for Billionaire, and then get to writing. 🙂

In the meantime, I have the Crawford Clan bear to ship, and then it’s off to help with baby.

It’s Fun, but…

A mass of daylillies on our walk, zinnia from seed, just beginning to bloom, never tried them before, and a sunflower from seeds the birds dropped.

I love all the colorful flowers, but yesterday, I was digging up a lot of weeds, and my neighbor even came over and helped! I need to get more bark mulch to keep the weeds from coming back.

In the backyard, I’m digging up grass to create a new flowerbed. What a job. I’ve spent two days on it. Probably have three more days to go. Once it’s done though, it won’t be too much work. If I just weed periodically, it’s no problem.

In the end, is it worth it? You bet. Don’t you love the flowers?

It’s like grooming the dogs, or weeding out and fleshing out and making a story the best it can be. It takes work. But in the end, it’s totally worth it.

I should be “done” with The Bounty Hunter Gets Her Wolf today. Yesterday, I spent the day home, instead of going to my daughter’s. Between the night before after I left her house at 6 pm and working until midnight and all day the next day until late last night, I wrote 12,000 words. It’s not because I had the time to do it, but because the scenes start to unfold, one right after another. 🙂  I have to remind myself when I’m trying to force the scenes to happen, it won’t happen. That I have to keep writing and writing and writing, and all of sudden, I have it. It’s there. Happening. Amazing.

Yet, it’s still not “done.” Once I type up this “last” scene I was finishing by hand late last night, I need to get descriptions of a couple of characters from another book to add. And then? It’s not done. The story is written. That’s the fantastic part!!! And then the reading and rereading begin. To make sure that moving things didn’t mess up the flow, that all the scenes are fleshed out. That it’s the most enjoyable read that it can be. And that I didn’t leave any loose ends.

Have a fun day…it might be work, but the results can be worth it.
