Christmas Wolf Surprise

Nice and cool out this morning, nicer than in the house! I’m at 58K on the book, and I have a few scenes to write, wrote the epilogue, yet, I’m like how do I write 22K more on the book just to get word count?

Of course, I’ll need to edit it and more will probably come to me. I often do this and the next thing I know I’ve got 10K over and wondered why I was worried.

And this is the December book that will be coming out. It’s an anthology of a collection of novellas. Notice I am listed last, not because I’m the least important author or because I’m an omega, but because Asa decided to go by first name in alphabetical order. When I was a kid, my last name started with a W, so yes, I was always last. I’m used to it!

Christmas Fairies

So I’m still writing a Christmas story, sometimes it’s hard to remember since it’s so hot. Working on snowy, Christmas pictures helps.

I got up to 54K words, 26K to reach minimum, so getting there! Three-thousand words again yesterday, working for the same today so my goal is 57K and by Friday, 60K. Tomorrow little one will be here, so maybe 500, or a 1000 words, if I can manage.

Cold this morning! Well for us! It was 66 and felt great! It’s going to be 95, no fun. So I was out cutting down a wild grape vine and pulling up some spent zinnias this morning. But I had chigger bites for days–did you know they kill the flesh and eat the rotting remains? Yuck! And fire ants got me yesterday when I was working on some weeding. The tiny wildlife is dangerous!

Okay, it’s time to write!!!

Beautiful Butterfly

We took this one at the butterfly exhibit at the Omaha zoo.

Took a walk this morning, nice and cool for a change, but it will be blistering hot through the end of the week. Next Monday it will get down to 89, yay! Add 10 degrees for the heat index, and we have 99 but that’s still better then 110.

Managed to get 3,000 yesterday. If I keep this up, I might have time for my beta readers to look over it before I have to turn it in. Hope, hope! And therein I have my own story conflict built in. Obstacles that get in my way. Deadline fast approaching. Will I make it in time? lol

I think the picture was taken at the wildlife reserve in Omaha. I kept thinking it was at the domed desert exhibit, but couldn’t find it with those pictures.

Wild thunderstorms in the middle of the morning. One of my dogs joined me in bed. I didn’t feel him jump up, but then the bed was vibrating with his shivers. Poor thing. Cuddling with me didn’t reduce the shakes and I couldn’t sleep, so I finally put him in his crate. Most nights, he sleeps beside the bed. His brother prefers his crate and he was snoring away, oblivious to the storm.

Managed 3500 on words yesterday. Coming down to the wire on the book deadline. Shooting for 3K today. I’m over halfway done.

Owl at Wolf Canyon. They have taken in owls and bald eagles that have been injured. My son took the picture, I did the photo art, trying to emphasize the details on his feathers more and take away the background distractions. Focus was more on the tree, but this is the first time he’s used my camera. Wish I hadn’t broken my wrist before visiting him. It will be the last time I’ll get to see the reserve. They’ll be moving to Japan in April.

For those who celebrate it, hope you all are having a great Labor Day weekend. I managed 3500 words yesterday. I wanted to get to 4000, but we went out to eat with my SIL’s parents and the kids and took photos at a park and I didn’t get home until 8:30 PM. So I finally just worked on some edits.

I updated my word count calendar and I’m going to make 84K by deadline, if I just manage 2,000 words each working day. So still need to do 3,000 for four more days.

Off to write!

Pelicans and Pelican Art

Using a texture can really isolate the subject(s) and give them prominence. In this photo taken at Wolf Canyon in Omaha, NE. I first removed a ton of white spots on the water with healing brush (Photoshop), and then added a Daily Texture overlay. I masked off the bird photo, leaving the texture exposed around them using a layer mask. That way I could switch out the textures below the original photo and see which I liked best. I left the two floating feathers for fun.

I managed 4,000 words yesterday, halfway done for minimum word count, but I need to figure out where to go with it this morning. And really, I need at least another 3,500 for the true halfway point because I normally do about 89K or longer.

A closeup of a curious crane at Wolf Canyon, Omaha, Nebraska. He was so cute, coming right up to the car window. This part of the park is drive thru.

So I finished edits and managed 1,000 words last night on my “off day.” I don’t have writing scheduled for the days I take care of my granddaughter because I often just can’t manage. At that point, I wanted to get another 1,000, but my brain was bankrupt.

I finally gave up and went to bed, and had an idea. lol So sometimes, I just need to shut down, and there it is. I wrote about 800 words, need to type them up to see the total. And then I woke way too early and I had another idea. I’m typing up the new idea first because it’s in my head. I can type the notes I wrote last night afterward. Hopefully they’ll amount to about 1500 words. At least I hope!

I’m shooting for 3,000 today so I can make it to the minimum halfway point on the book. Though I really need to write 3,000 a day to make my deadline on my 5 working days. And I managed to create the video for You Had Me at Cougar. I need to do some more for upcoming releases. 🙂

White Swans Feeding

Okay, little one here, so it’s a slow start for me! We were painting rocks and I had to feed her breakfast after going through a bunch of options.

I have bites everywhere for working in the yard. *sigh* Chiggers, mosquitoes. With West Nile virus found in various areas, mosquito bites can be a concern.

I managed 2,000 yesterday on a Christmas Wolf Surprise. I really need to write 3,000 a day, but I was trying to promote Saving the White Cougar. I created a video with Animoto’s new format, but the pictures turned out blurry. So I think I’ll stick to their “canned” videos.

Okay, I’m off to try to add more subscribers manually to my mail list from the contest we had. Wish there was a way to do it more automatically! Then I can finally send out the newsletter.

I finally made a list of all the things I need to do and that way I’m not worrying about it while I’m trying to sleep!

Saving the White Cougar–Now Released!

So when a lovely fan and friend of mine sent me an article about a rare white cougar, I knew that I had to write the cougar’s story. And since I’ve been writing a Halloween shifter story each year, this is the one for this year! Maybe next year I can write a wolf’s Halloween story.
