Mellow Yellow Duckling Art

I found this little guy in my photos and I thought he was so adorable, taking one big step with his big webbed foot. But the background distracted from him way too much. So voila, here he is. Not an ugly duckling at all. I took this photo at Balboa Park in San Diego.

I had to move some scenes around in the Highland Wolf novel and expand them yesterday. So I finally made word count. The heat was beastly outside, but I planted 3 of the miniature rosebushes first thing yesterday morning. My goal is to plant the last two this morning before the heat makes it impossible. And of course get word count again.

Have a super fun Friday. I’m off to get busy with mine.

Mallard Duck Art

The mallard duck was standing on grass next to a waterway, but the cement barrier next to it really messed up the picture. So I added some textures, removing the background.

I found some more miniature roses! And they came home with me. But it’s too hot to plant them. I’ll try first thing this morning. Of course I was so excited about getting the roses, I forgot my tortillas. lol Priorities, priorities.

This was supposed to post this morning, but didn’t! So I rescheduled it for 3 mins from now. Hopefully it will post. So weird.

Have a beautiful day!

Shades of Gray–Rhino Art

I took the photo at some zoo, don’t remember which now, Rhinos coming and going. It took me about 3 days to work on this, trying different layers, not liking the end result, trying something else. That’s what I love about doing art on Photoshop. It’s easy to start over again and you don’t waste any precious, expensive materials to do it.

But Rhinos, I must say, were difficult to work with to put them in a more…beautiful light. I thought about making the scene bigger and making them smaller, but I liked the original photo and their size because they are so big, and I wanted to keep it that way to show how truly impressive they are. Can you imagine one sitting on you? That would hurt. Not to mention if one chased you down with its big horn, though stepping on you would hurt lots too.

I only got 1,000 words on word count yesterday. Edits and trying to fill in scenes can be a job. I also planted the yellow coneflowers, cut back tree branches, pulled weeds, and filled in part of that indent in the yard. It’s a lot wider and deeper than I thought. No wonder I kept stumbling in it. It only took me 7 years to do something about it.

Come on now, don’t tell me you never procrastinate about anything.

Little one is here and we have a million things to do. So off I go.

Have a great one!

Moody Blues–Great Blue Heron Art

Playing with textures and a landscape and the blue gray heron I took a picture of. It was fun to create the blue mood.

Managed 2,000 words yesterday and put down bark mulch to try to retard the weeds. And of course, NO WAY was I going to get any more plants. Not with it being 100 degrees heat index. BUT somehow a couple of plants jumped right on the cart that was loaded down with bark mulch and dirt. I have this big depression in one area that I’m always stumbling in, so finally got some topsoil to fill it in.

Yellow coneflowers. I don’t think I’d seen any before. I need to catalogue all the colors I have, but I just had to add these to the collection. So, yep, they came right home with me.

Hope you all have a fun day. I’m off to more errands, will pick up some more bark mulch and back to writing.

Black Bear Art

I loved this photo I took of the black bear at Cameron Park Zoo, but I never liked the background. I usually didn’t capture one this good of him. He’s showing his backside or not visible, etc, so I really wanted to do something more with him.

Okay, so I managed 3,000 words yesterday on Highland Wolf. I’ve been filling in the blanks, scenes that I put a note to write later, or adding snippets that were loose ends that I mentioned that I needed to show they happened. Another thing that really worked was when I was writing a particularly mundane activity, I added conflict. Sometimes I would elude to a problem that could come up–but then didn’t use that plot device to really present a conflict, so I ran with it. Those can be red herrings, but sometimes I just need to turn them into the conflict! Easy peasy.

And I figured out the heroine’s flaws. Now I have a perfectly hot hero–who needs some flaws also. I have to run errands today, but after that, Lachlan, tell me what bothers you the most? What are your deepest fears? What are YOUR secrets?

Okay, so have to run. Onward and upward!

Enjoy your day!

Green Zinnia in Art

I had shared the green zinnia flower earlier but then I bought this new texture from Daily Textures and loved how it mixed together so well. Also added Gilded from Daily Texture.

Still editing on the book, still trying to figure out what will give my characters more dimension. I’ve gone through a million scenarios. Had to take care of the baby for half the day, which isn’t conducive to work, lol. But this morning I was thinking, what if she had a secret? Guilt?

So still thinking!

I’m off to do the edits and I bought a new cover that just went on sale for an old book that I loved, so I’m going to try and get that up today or by the end of the week at least. I need to reread the book and see if I need to make any changes.

Hope you enjoy your day!

Ostrich in the Rain–Art

This is for another art challenge. What makes us happy? Creating art, photography (the ostrich photo is mine), reading and writing books, the flower representing gardening, bird watching, animals, even stormy days. Of course there’s more, but this is what I managed to include.

Okay, I’m off to work like a snail again on edits. My characters need more depth. Off to give them some issues.

Hope your day is happy! And if it isn’t, as Star Trek’s Cpt. Picard would say, “Make it so.”

Purple–One Color Art Challenge

6 photos, one main color, title, and voila! Naturally, I went for purple. Love purple flowers. I could have added more if they would have allowed it for the challenge! Purple Magic crepe myrtle, purple irises, zinna…yep. A ton more!

I managed my word count yesterday, but still way behind. Yet, I have only 17K left to get to word count. Added some more conflict. Which changes a few things… I have to think: from A to B nothing happened. Ho-hum, usual day, spice it up, add some conflict!

Have a great day. I’ve got to get to editing and writing for the day.

Swan Art

Back to art challenges. On this one we have to take one picture, duplicate it, and frame the subjects and then remove the background of the photo beyond the frames. Then we had to overlay texture or other elements on the first photo and turn it into soft light or overlay, etc. I took the picture of the swans in the algae at the wildlife reserve in Omaha.

Garbage out. Fed the dogs. Need to feed the birds. Getting ready to do more edits. Only added 700 words yesterday. With editing often I’m replacing a word, taking a sentence out, writing a new sentence, so I’m not really getting that much word count.

It’s going to be another hot day. Off to work!

Have a swimmingly fun day.

Green Zinnia Flower

My daughter has some of these in her garden and she gave some of the seeds to me. So I need to plant them! I just loved this unusual color.

I’ve walked, fed the birds, the dogs, took pictures of flowers before the sun is too intense, and now it’s time to write!

Have a fun-filled day!
