Sunflowers of Summer–in Spring

I love sunny sunflowers.

I’ve still got a cold, though I’m glad it’s nothing worse than that. Today we’re having a birthday party for my grandson–Where the Wild Things Are–though he’s like this sunflower, sunny disposition and smiley.

I’m off to try and get a little done on Highland Wolf. I’ve felt so dragged out that I only managed to read through 3 chapters yesterday, of 4 that I’ve written, to remember where I’m at in the story after stopping to do edits on the other book. The two days before the cold hit me, we were taking long walks and I felt great!

Still combing and cutting the dogs’ hair. I thought it was really bad last time because I was doing it with a broken wrist, but it’s just as bad this time.

Have a lovely day!! Can’t wait to get wild!

My Toys–(Art Inspiration Challenge)

Back to doing the Oscraps art challenges for the new month!

I planted chives this morning, other plants last night, still need to put in some other flowers and a couple of herbs. I need more soil and bark mulch! And I have sunflower seeds that I need to figure out where to plant also. I keep thinking if I have enough plants it will shade out the weeds.

We had fog today. Love it as long as I don’t have to drive in it!

I’m off to write for a while. I’m up to 6,000 words on the new book!

Have a fun-filled day!

Before-After-Flowerbed

The before picture was taken later spring so the grass is much greener. The rocks had just been put down. But in the new picture, pine trees have sprouted up, the boxwood I put in grew by leaps and bounds, and when they’re ready, the planter is filled with flowers.

Okay, I’m off. Thunderstorms this morning and little one is here.

Have a fun day!!!

Spring is Filling the Flowerbeds!

I have to keep pulling the weeds, but at least some of the stuff that looked like weeds proved they’re not and are now providing a flowery showcase. The fuschia-colord phlox is so pretty right now and lilies are about to bloom, wild clover, and sunshine ligustrum. Hopefully, the ligustrum will start to really grow a bit! It’s supposed to be 6 feet tall and it’s just maybe a foot tall. Some of the ones in the back are about five foot now. And one in the front is 6 foot. So maybe this one is going to be a runt of the litter.

When I lived in Oklahoma, I had this color of phlox and redbud trees and their flowers are the same shade of pink-purple. It looked like I was a master gardener and had planned it that way. lol I’d never had either plant before, so I was amazed at how beautiful the combination was.

Okay, I’m off to work on Bear in Mind. Have a great day!!

Azalea in the Garden

These are the everblooming Encore Autumn Fire azalea. What I love about them is they bloom at least three times a year. I have the traditional lavender ones also, but they only bloom once in early spring. I rescued them from a garden center before they were thrown out. They’re so pretty, but I wish they bloomed more often. That’s why I love daylilies. They bloom over and over again, unlike the Asiatic lilies. The Asiatic are so beautiful, but I wish they bloomed for longer.

I pulled up a ton of grass and weeds in one of the flowerbeds, but I swear that the grass and weeds think that means I’m cleaning it out so they can sprout tons more weeds and grass. I’m sure when I go to bed at night, they’ll have returned in the morning in earnest.

I only managed a 1,000 words on Wolf Pack last night. It’s at 15K. I was working on edits on Wolf on the Wild Side. Need to final proof it before I turn it in.

We’re off to the museum this morning and a birthday party, so have a fun day!

Dragons Guarding the Tomato Plants

So I was trying to get the tomato plants used to the filtered sun but the wind wasn’t cooperating. And then my garden dragons jumped right in to save the day! Aren’t they the little dears?

I finally planted all of the tomato plants. All 7 of the 5. Yes. You read that right. My daughter told me she gave me 5 tomato plants and when I had planted 3 of them, I realized I had 4 more. lol Anyway, white, red, pink, yellow, and midget (2), and burgundy. It should be fun! If they all make it. They already had 6 tomatoes on them. And all of them were in bloom. I LOVE tomatoes.

I managed to write another 3,000 on Wolf Pack and am at 12K. Off to write and do some more weeding.

Have a dragon-fun day.

Silver Flowers

Plants that are gray-green in color are supposed to be more drought resistant, so I’ve read. This is a perennial: Eryngium bourgatii herbaceous.

I didn’t go swimming like I planned to because it was supposed to storm. And it didn’t. I shouldn’t listen to the weather reports. lol

I’ve been busy editing You Had Me at Cougar. I think I finished it to the end, except still need to finish two scenes. I remembered another scene I had to add this morning. One of those loose ends. Oh, and I have another too, that I’m going to have to finish up, I just realized.

So getting closer to being done!

Have a great weekend! I’m back to work!

Zinnia in the Garden

A lavender zinnia. They are such cheerful little plants.

So yesterday I was doing a million things while looking for one little document. It meant that I pulled out rubber tubs that I hadn’t gone through since the move here six years ago and I really started getting rid of stuff or organizing it if it’s something important enough to keep. A lot isn’t really, so I might, after the initial clean out, go through the stuff again and get rid of more stuff.

I always feel good about cleaning out stuff, but I still haven’t found the paper I need.

So after I organize all this junk and put it away, then I’ll have to tackle the containers of stuff I have that are underneath all the Christmas decorations. Now that’s going to be hot. The garage is hot. And the containers are super heavy, so just moving them into the house isn’t going to be easy. Just thinking of moving all the Christmas stuff first makes me hot. lol

But I love getting more organized. And I lost another 1 1/2 lbs. Past my first goal, working on my second one! But I didn’t have time to write. I only need to write 8500 more words to reach word goal. Yay!

Well, I’m off to work and then it’s back to more organizing!

Have a stupendous day!

Adding a Little Fantasy Makes the World Go Around

I was out weeding, another cooler morning, yay! I need to put out the trash. But I’m thinking I need to take a walk too. So many things to do when it’s cooler for only a few more minutes this morning!

I created this from a mushroom background photo, added another mushroom, and then added the rendered Leafling Elf, tree frog, flowers and worked magic on the whole thing. Her eyes are human. I didn’t like the look of the 3D eyes. And I added human hair also. And of course all kinds of shadowing, light, blurring to give depth of field and reduce the sharpness of edges.

Sometimes it’s fun to jump into a fantasy world before I go back to the real world of shapeshifting wolves and cougars. lol

Have a great day!!

I know I’ve Been Weeding Too Much When…

Pink Wildflowers in Minnesota. See, now if everything could look this lush and green and non-weedy, I’d be good.

Well, I know I’ve been weeding too much when:

  1. I think I’ve cleared all the weeds and see a few more. And a few more. And a few more.
  2. I begin thinking they have a human brain and know where to grow so I can’t get to them.
  3. I dream about pulling up weeds. Scratch that. Have nightmares about weeds.
  4. I consider pulling up everything and just throwing rocks down. Or black weed paper. Or bring out a the weed/grass/any plant killer.
  5. I pull up flowers instead of weeds in my enthusiasm to get to the weeds.
  6. I’m sure that when I went out to weed yesterday, that patch had been totally cleared and now it’s full of weeds again.
  7. The bark mulch is helping the weeds to grow.
  8. The fertilizer is helping the weeds to grow.
  9. Pulling weeds is helping more weeds to grow.
  10. I’m thinking a wild garden–I mean really wild–is the way to go.

It’s not my fault the weeds are getting to me!

But this morning it was cooler out than usual–courtesy of thunderstorms last night–and so when I realized it, I went out there to tackle 2 flowerbeds. I’d like to say they are both done. But I know there were more weeds lurking out there. But they are mostly done. For the moment. Four more out front to weed still though.

I managed 1,000 words on You Had Me at Cougar and turned in marketing materials for Red Wolf Christmas.

Now, it’s time to get to writing! Have a wonderful day! It’s going to be hot, hot, hot today.
