Texas Sunset

Have you ever been in a rush, and goofed? Well, I was trying to get a picture of another finished Steampunk Bear for an order and the sun was setting, fast, and I forgot to put her Steampunk watch on. So I have to wait for the sun to rise this morning so I can take her picture, again. So the sun just rose, but it’s still fairly dark out. I’ll show her off tomorrow, maybe with another couple of bears if I have time to finish them.

And more finished bears. I really have been working. 🙂

I finished her and she’s ready to ship, and I finished another bear’s paws, and half of another bear’s paws last night for a 4 bear order. But the one has to have a tutu. I’ve made them before, but I wanted to see if they had some other fun techniques to make them, and voila, I LOVE the Internet. All kinds of sites showing how to make one in a fun way.

I turned in A Silver Wolf Christmas, and I’m now rereading Kiss of the Vampire, YA, since I have to update the cover as soon as I get the finalized one back from the cover artist.

And I’m going to reread The Vampire…In My Dreams and I’ve been reformatting it so that I can republish it. 🙂 <3

And I’m still working with the last beta reader on Call of the Cougar.

I hope to finish 2-3 bears today, and finish reading Kiss of the Vampire. 🙂

Confessions of a Box Hoarder

My dad hoarded nuts and bolts and such. He said that if he got rid of any of it, the one he got rid of would be just the one he needed for the job. He would pick up jars of bolts and the like at garage sales, just in case.

My mother loved nick-nacks.

Me? Boxes. No, I don’t love them. But like my dad, I need them. What I hate most of all is needing to ship a bunch of stuff and not having the right sized box for the job. So I collect boxes and recycle them, for the most part, though I had boxes I had bought years and years ago that I never used, and finally discovered them stored away and used them all up. They were perfect for my small bears so I went to Walmart to find some more in that size and they didn’t have any.

However, today is trash day, and I finally made a huge concession and got rid of tons of boxes that are too big to ship anything in, too heavy, and just plain not useable. Unlike hoarders that can’t part with their treasured possessions, I felt better getting rid of some of the clutter. And no, it’s not in huge piles in a room. They’re tucked away in an unusable space for much of anything else.

I will say that I took delight in not only cleaning out the storage space, but while I was hauling out the boxes, I witnessed the glorious stars, half moon, and the pink glow of the sunrise. What could have been nicer?

I read a romance about a woman who hoarded Christmas decorations–she collected broken ornaments even. She didn’t even have hardly any walk space to move around. She had boxes and boxes of ornaments, but she didn’t even have her Christmas decorations out to look at.

Then I was watching a cop show and they had discovered a house where three men were evicted, all of whom were cat hoarders. They had 50 cats in the house, some living in the walls! So between the cop and the humane society, they had to round up all the cats, and you can imagine how badly it smelled in that house.

When I was at Fort Hood, Texas, there was a case of a service member being deployed and his wife had to be evicted from base housing because she had 10 dogs in the house, and it was a total, filthy mess.

And when we lived in Florida, the woman who owned the stud dog (poodle) that we used with our female, had maybe 60 dogs. Now, except for the yipping, no one would ever know that she had tons of dogs in the house. They were all tiny toys, and most looked like puppies. She also had lots of puppies. She didn’t keep them in a kennel, and she was really fastidious. I went into a house once, looking to buy, and the owners had kept 3 large dogs in one bedroom, and it smelled of dog. The breeder’s home didn’t. And her dogs were well loved, not like puppy mills. However, she wasn’t allowed to have that many dogs in the development. One day, her helper let all of the tiny toy poodles out into the backyard at the same time, and a police boat dropped by on the canal and the policemen thought all the puppies were so adorable. LOL If he had only known.

So she was a hoarder of tiny toy poodles.

I think I’m hoarding manuscripts. I need to finish them up so I can send them off and start on new ones. Have a lovely VERY cold day!

Happy Veteran’s Day! And…I DON’T Do Lists

Happy Veteran’s Day! Supposedly, Olive Garden is doing a special free meal for veterans, and I think I’ll brave the cold and drop by there for lunch. I need to run a million errands, so figure I’ll do that too. 🙂 <3

My whole family abounded with veterans–Mother, Father, BIL, Sister, Me, Son, Daughter was in AF ROTC, but decided it wasn’t for her. And my grandfather was a doctor in the Canadian Army during WWI, and we even had an ancestor in the Black Watch. My mother’s grandfather was one of Teddy Roosevelt’s Rough Riders. And one of our ancestors had come over with a Hessian prince who landed in Quebec, and then took the mercenary soldiers into the colonies where he deserted because he didn’t want to fight the American Patriots, but instead joined the militia in Quebec. Even another great grandfather, who didn’t serve in the military, broke horses for the cavalry in WWI. And one of my father’s grandfathers was in the Merchant Marines and though they didn’t fight in wartime, they were in some of the action.

So Happy Veteran’s Day to all those veterans, past, present, and future, and to their families who have cared for them in sickness and health, and stuck by them.

Now, I used to be a list maker. I had a list I’d make every day and it would drive me crazy if I didn’t finish everything on my list and then I’d accomplish stuff not on my list and I’d feel horrible that it wasn’t on my list and I didn’t get “credit” for it. LOL

I even went as far as adding them to my list just so I could mark them off!

So I quit making lists. Except when I’m on a shopping trip. I have to or I forget some of the stuff I’ve got to get–oddball stuff.

But as far as goal stuff, no.

Yesterday, my primary goal was to proof the audiobook version of Her Highland Hero, and if I had time, to write the Christmas blog I needed to for a magazine. I did both. It was an all-day affair from 4:30 in the morning until 6:30 PM and then I began writing the Christmas blog, and then I realized I hadn’t made the cover for Her Highland Hero’s audiobook, so had to do that. Then I started reading A Silver Wolf Christmas one last time. Got through chapter 1, then it was time for bed. I don’t just sit there and listen to an audiobook all day. I also was moving stuff. I have family coming in for the holidays, and I have 4 more windows being replaced this weekend, so I’ve been moving stuff out of the way, and putting stuff away that, well, doesn’t need to be out. More on that later. 🙂

This morning, I sewed up 3 bears, 2 Scottish bonnets and 2 Scottish sashes, first thing. I still have to stuff the bears, put them together, and finish them up, and sew on sashes and bonnets on another 2 bears, then embroider their paws, but that was one of my priorities today. Next, is to work on A Silver Wolf Christmas. I will be reading it for the rest of the day. And probably tomorrow because I desperately need to run errands. I need more boxes to ship bears, for one thing.

You see how I have no word count goals this week? Poor Phantom Fae has been put to the side. But I need to get A Silver Wolf Christmas finished and sent off to my editor. And I need to finish proofing the audiobook for Huntress for Hire and send it off to the narrator to make the changes. And I will be getting back the changes on Her Highland Hero and need to approve it. I need to finish up Call of the Cougar, still waiting on one beta reader’s input. And I need to finish 14 bears. They’re all in process! Either made and need paws embroidered, need clothes made, the bears need to be made, just something. And I need to reread The Vampire…In My Dreams and republish it. And then, I need to get back to Phantom Fae, with a clear conscious.

Wait, was that a list I just made?

Steampunk Bears Finished! & Fostering Pets

Finished another order of 4 Steampunk Bears! They are on their way for Christmas!

I think I have 14 orders to go. I shipped off A SEAL Wolf Hunting back to my editor also. Working on edits on Call of the Cougar with my final beta reader right now.

Had a lovely Readers and Rita’s Conference this weekend, and now it’s time to quit goofing off, again. 🙂 Well, except for Thanksgiving coming up!

And my friend Bonnie Gill created this video to share in hopes of having one of her foster dogs adopted. I think it’s wonderful that folks do this to keep the dogs from being euthanized and give them a second chance at having a home. I took in a cat, Trixie, who lived to be about 14 years of age. The sweetest cat in the world that had been taken in by the Kitty Welfare Society–a group of women who took in cats and fostered them until they could find homes for them. But they are in a home environment. Trixie was found with her little brother at a Dumpster, looking for food.

I’m off to proof two books and need to finish up some more bears. 🙂 Have a glorious Monday! Warm today, cold tomorrow. 🙂

Redoing Covers!

I got my rights back! So I had to have a new cover made for the book. I really like this and now I have to go through and reread the book, make any changes I want and republish it.

What do you think of the cover?

I also have another book series that I’m having the covers redone on. I haven’t given her the title names, etc so when I can do that, I’ll show those off.

Full Moon

So I was signing books for one of my table guests, Annie Slasher, and Louise said she didn’t want to interrupt, but there was a huge full moon out. So I ran outside to take pictures, and another of my guests, Maria, brought out the stuffed wolf to howl. Hey, we were having fun. What can I say???

Time to run. I’ll be having an author chat with readers at 10:30, lunch, talking about: How Series-Ly Do You Take Yourself at 3, and then a signing at 4. 🙂

Raining for Two Days–And That’s Great! More Before and After!

I shipped off nine bears yesterday and finished reading over SEAL Wolf Hunting. I was up at 3 am to 11 pm and up at 4 am this morning. Argh. I just have too much to do and still have at least 14 bears to make. I’m working on dresses for 5 more Steampunk bears and then once 4 of the bears are dressed, need to sew on their hats and they’re done. I’ll try to ship them out on Friday.

So that’s why I haven’t been doing my blog. Trying to get a million things done, including finally running into town to do errands that I couldn’t do all last week because of the tile guys. Now my water heater isn’t working. I think it’s a fuse that’s blown. I need to get an electrician out to see about the circuit breaker. I think if I turn up the heat on the water heater, it blows the fuse. But if I don’t turn up the heat on the thermostat, my guests have barely any hot water, and I think that’s why I’m having such a time with my dishes getting clean in the dishwasher. Soooo, need to get that taken care of pronto.

This is a picture I took when the cornfields were high and the sky was stormy. I was actually trying to get a shot of the new shrubs and hoping they’d make it. But when I did it, I saw how horrible the driveway looked. I see it all the time, but it’s like I didn’t really see it. Some of it is because of the winds we have and the plowing they do all the time. But also, this has accumulated for about 17 years since my dad passed away. He was always keeping things clean. My mom couldn’t.

So, that was one of the things I had done. One of the workmen cleaned the driveways and the brick. I’ll have to show a picture of the brick after I take the new one. I thought I had, but I’d only taken of the Before. I’ve tried to hose it down myself, but it just didn’t work without a high-powered washer and they used bleach to also make a difference.

Okay, enough goofing off. Got to read over A SEAL Wolf Hunting one last time, and turn it in. And finish up the Steampunk Bears and show them off. And proof two audiobooks and read over A Silver Wolf Christmas once last time and turn it in. And reread Call of the Cougar again, and publish it. 🙂 <3

So I’m off to work on edits on A SEAL Wolf Hunting. On ch 4, but still have up to ch 20 to read through. The tile work is all done, so trying to clean up everything. I still have to move a lot of stuff back into the cabinets and such, but need to clean all the furniture first. I still have a couple of projects to finish up on the porch and the guest bathroom. Hope to get to it before the kids arrive for Thanksgiving. But time is running out and I’ve got so much going on!

And I’m working on Douglas Clan bear, a rainbow bear and an emerald green bear today. Hope to at least finish the first two and finish making up the green bear. Embroider her paws if I can. Days need to be longer. 🙂

Before! After! Renovating with Tile!

Still have some work to do today, then cleaning.

I have 21 bears made up, just need to do the finishing embroidery work, etc. And one in progress, another needs to be cut out, but made up the dragon cloak. 🙂

And I got edits back on A SEAL Wolf Hunting. Editor loved it! So just need to add a few more details on a couple of things, and then I’ve got to turn it back in pronto. Waiting on one more Silver Wolf Christmas beta read, then can turn it in. And one more Call of the Cougar beta read, and can publish. And two audiobooks waiting for review–Huntress for Hire and Her Highland Hero. *sigh*

So far the schedule for the first of the new books is: SEAL Wolf Diving, Feb 2016, She-Wolf Leader (titles to change btw), Jun 2016, and Jaguar Jingle Bells, Oct 2016, and Billionaire in Wolf’s Clothing, Feb 2017

And it’s 38 degrees this morning!! It’s cold, but I refuse to turn on the heat. It’s going to be a high of 65 today. That’s the lowest we’ve been this fall. Tomorrow, back to 73 degrees and then 78 the next day.

Have a wonderful Saturday!!! After he’s finished with projects today, I’m going to be doing a lot of cleaning. Dust everywhere. And I’ll be redecorating a bit later. I moved a big cabinet to another location, and so it freed up a wall and need to do something else there. 🙂
