Whoops!

Max can touch his tongue to his nose (360x640)

Looking at you (640x426) (2)

Okay, this was NOT supposed to have posted. I HAD to pre-post a blog for Casablanca for next week, and Blogger won’t upload pictures. So I was cutting and pasting from WordPress, but realized I didn’t have a couple of pictures to share.

Top one, puppies after a bath, and bottom one, the picture of a Mexican gray wolf at the Wildlife West Zoo near Albuquerque, NM.

*sigh*

Off to really write now.

“Leave it, Tanner. Tanner, drop it.” Outside, I’m having a better success at getting him to drop things. Inside…I turn him upside down, not like by the legs. I hold him like a baby and just tilt my arms so that he’s part way upside down, but still totally secure against me, and then he drops whatever he’s got that I don’t want him to have.

🙂 I know. I know. It’s totally not the way to go. He’s getting my attention when I need to just be firmer with him.

Ha!

He’s way too stubborn. And if I try to take it away from him, then it’s a really fun game of tug-of-war, even if I’m not pulling and just telling him to drop it. 🙂

But we’ll get there. 🙂

I took a close up photo with my phone of a snail, wow. Amazing how great it looks.

I’ve been finishing up some bears. Note while I was taking pictures of the bears, Max was helping with MacLeod Clan Bear to make sure he was sitting up properly. These two are for one order, and I’m finishing up two more for another order.

I got 2,000 words done on Taming the Wild Cougar.

But I was 1300 short on Billionaire. Was doing some brainstorming and research though.

And, I’ve been walking 3 miles for the last 3 days. 🙂

Soooo, off to blog and another site and then it’s time to work on Billionaire, and make up for yesterday! And finish up the last two bears!

Have a super great Saturday!!! Mine is totally booked!

I’m a Pantser!

I remember an author saying she didn’t like that term and she thought it should be something else, something more eloquent, but for me, that’s appropriate. I write by the seat of my pants. I was reading an article by an author about how she writes–she says she’s a pantser. She figures out the opening scene, ending scene, and several plot points in between.

That is NOT how I’d describe a pantser. To me that’s a plotter. 🙂 <3 Maybe not a plotter that outlines the whole book, but that still describes a plotter.

Alpha Wolf with Cheez-Its. Definitely a shifter.

Alpha Wolf with Cheez-Its. Definitely a shifter.

Picture I took of the alpha wolf at the wildlife park near Omaha, Nebraska.

A pantser figures out the opening, or even some other scene in the book first (sometimes my opening scenes end up being later in the book) and then from there, keeps going, maybe scenes coming to mind that are out of order–in other words, they really are later in the story, and then need to be written and finally tied in with the earlier ones. Maybe the end scene comes to me before some of the rest of the story and I’ll write that. But as I’m writing, I’ll come up with interesting twists and turns. It happens as I’m writing a scene. That scene prompts it. Not any other. Not the beginning. It evolves from whatever I’ve learned about the characters up until now. Like going full circle. I was describing the entryway to the castle in Heart of the Highland Wolf and near the end of the book while I was trying to figure out the end, suddenly, I had it! And it all had to do with the beginning and describing the castle entryway. It’s just as unexpected for me as it is for my readers. Which means, I couldn’t have plotted it if my life depended on it. And yet, it seems seamless.

Sometimes I think weirdly. I do it in games sometimes. Game designers try to come up with a lot of different scenarios, anticipate what gamers are going to do, and plan for it.  Ha! They didn’t plan for me. Sometimes I get stuck in a game because of that. I locked myself in a dungeon cell once and had to go to an earlier saved game and restore, because the gamers hadn’t anticipated I’d do something so dumb. 🙂

This does not mean I don’t think about my stories. I think about them ALL the time. But sometimes my mind wanders to another story, and I want to start it. Sometimes I ignore that urge because I need to write the story with the more current deadline. But sometimes I’ll write the scene because later, I won’t remember it and if I don’t, those characters will continue to take up space in my head. Which is why I wrote the opening, very brief, of Jaguar Jingle Bells.

So off to do some more pantsing! They say that you can get more easily sidetracked with your work if you are a pantser, because you don’t plot it out. And that means more rewrites. But that’s okay. Because for me, the fun is in the discovery. If I could, which I can’t, but if I could plot out my book from beginning to end, it would kill the joy of writing the story, and discovering all the twisting paths the hero and heroine take to reach their HEA.

Taming the Wild Cougar WEB 05082015

Oh, and this was what I was thinking about, and so AFTER I got my word count for yesterday on Billionaire, I wrote a tiny bit of an opening. One-hundred and forty-three words. Told you it was a tiny bit. But got to start somewhere! This is Dr. Kate Parker and Leyland Hill.  Already he’s in trouble, and she doesn’t suspect a thing–just that she’s going on her vacation after she finishes some paperwork at the clinic when she gets sidetracked–in the worst possible way.

Exercise at the Job…or Around It

Getting ready to exercise

Getting ready to exercise

Okay, I have a jogging board, walking board, that allows me to jog in place without as much of an impact on the cement/tile floor, so much better on the body. Since getting the puppies, I haven’t used it. I actually was using it as a Place for the puppies to go to when I was training them. So here I am, trying to take my jogging board back as Max wants to know why I’m on his Place and Tanner is just as curious.

Training on 3 platforms for Place

Training on 3 platforms for Place

So you can see why Max thought this was HIS Place, not mine.

I decided some of my problem with trying to stick to this is that I need something that actually measures how far I “walk” or that measures steps. I needed a pedometer. So I picked up one and then I was telling my daughter about it and she said I already had one–on the new phone. Don’t you love technology? So I need to take the other back.

But yes! I do, and so I stuck it in a fanny pack and began to exercise, reached my moderate goal of 6,000 steps, which was 3 miles, I think, and went way beyond. I’ll increase the level later, but for now, I need to get back into the swing of it. Some of my writer friends have laptops set up on a treadmill. So that’s a neat way to exercise too.

Sitting for so much of the day, except to take photos, and walk the puppies, and play with them, and feed them, and train them, I really don’t get enough exercise. Sooo, it’s a start.

Hopefully now I’ll stick with it. I have a buddy who is also working on this. That helps also. To have someone who you talk to so you don’t slip. Kind of like my word count. If I share how much I intend to write, and then tell the truth–I was 300 words short yesterday (but still 7,000 words over my original goal–so feeling great about that), it helps to keep after the goals. I will make up for the 300 word shortage and my 2,000 word goal for today. That will mean I’m a 1/4 of the way through the book!

Which is where I’m going next!

So have a terrific day! I’m off to write, and catch up on my exercise!

Flamingos and Koi

Flamingo and koi (640x427)

Flamingos and Koi, Milwaukee Zoo

Okay, I KNEW my flamingos were not as brightly colored as the ones at the Milwaukee Zoo. When I saw the ones there, I was like, yes! That’s the color they should be! And you can see the koi swimming nearby.

So is this a different pink variety, or is it all about diet?

I love getting pictures of koi, which are beautifully colored. These all came up looking for a feast. They remind me of my puppies.

These I caught on the perfect day. It was just light enough, just shaded enough, that the pictures look surreal on this fall day.

Because of boarding the puppies for so long while I was in Milwaukee and New Mexico, they get a free day spa. That means a day of play and baths. So after they got me up at 4:45, they’re sleeping, little monsters, but that will change soon. I’ll take them in as soon as the place opens, they can play, get their baths, and I’ll pick them up. And while they’re away?

I can write. 🙂

Have a super great hump day!!!

The Computer is Back Up and Running!

Morning sky and sun's rays

Morning sky and sun’s rays

I wanted to see how well the phone camera would work outside, so I took a picture of the sun’s rays and the clouds. I didn’t think it was bad if I wanted to just take the puppies out and capture a fun setting for…fun. I saw a beautiful sunset last night when I took the puppies out, but by the time I’d get them corralled back in the house, the sunset would have lost its beauty. So I will try to capture one on my phone tonight if it works out that we have a lovely one again tonight.

With my camera, I couldn’t have gotten such close-ups. The puppies were right on top of me. And of course as soon as I started trying to take pictures, they got even closer. The detail is amazing.

Max, the smaller version of a sheepdog

Max, the smaller version of a sheepdog

So what have the puppies come up with? That one of them should get the girl, and not some hot billionaire wolf. Even if the heroine’s a wolf. The problem is Max and Tanner are disagreeing about which of them should get the hot she-wolf. *sigh*

And that’s my story and I’m sticking to it! 🙂 <3

My Computer Crashed!

tiger sticking tongue out (640x452)

And this is how I feel! Sticking tongue out at Dell for as many times as my computer has crashed for no apparent reason.

Just answering emails and such before I begin writing and  hoping I didn’t lose anything on The Billionaire in Wolf’s Clothing before it crashed. 🙁  I can’t tell because I had to open up on my laptop and my last autosave would be on my PC.

But it’s going to be a beautiful day anyway, just hoping my SIL can figure out how to fix it remotely tonight after he gets off work. Poor thing.

I have been making some major strides with the puppies. I’ve been taking them outside off leash. I have with Max, but started doing it with Tanner. No fenced in yard. I should say I have walls on two sides, but the rest of the yard is unfenced.

And I took down the fence that divides the family room so they’d stay with me in one part of the room and if they get up from a nap and begin to roam, I can take them out. So far, no accidents. It’s nice to get my house back to looking somewhat like it did before I brought the puppies home. 🙂 Tanner is sleeping where the fence used to be. Max is using the arm of the chair as a headrest. Both puppies do it. Doesn’t it look uncomfortable?

Picture was taken with phone. Amazing detail. Don’t you love Max’s coiffure? It looks like he had an attack with static electricity.

Have a super great day! Off to get my word count in! 🙂
