More Snow Pictures in Spring!

These are Havanese tracks in the snow. 🙂 See? I can track a Havanese, just like that. *Snaps Fingers*

Snow on the fountain–captured after most of the snow melted. Would have liked to get one earlier before it had, but was taking care of baby. Snow comes here anywhere from once every 15-30 years, sooooo, that’s why it’s such a big event. I know for those in snow country, they’re amused. But some around here have never seen snow before!

I’ve been in a blizzard skiing, not good, but it came up and I had to come down. Do you know how hard it is to ski when you can’t make out the horizon? Everything looks…white. There’s no mountain, no slope, just…white.  I was by myself too. Not my fault. But I took more spills trying to come down off the mountain when I couldn’t see the slope for the snow.

And we lived in Wisconsin when I was a kid and my dad carried me to the bus stop because the snow was so high. Was in a blizzard in Amarillo, Texas, well, several, trying to make my way home from work to Canyon, and couldn’t tell where the centerline was, the shoulder, or what I was really driving on. I was in another in St. Louise for Thanksgiving one year on my way to share Thanksgiving with my boss’s family when I was on Army duty, and really didn’t think I was going to make  it.

We always built a snow fort, had snow fights, and built a snowman in Oklahoma, couldn’t get out of my parking lot in Maryland after I finally made it home in the snowstorm, and in New Jersey, didn’t think I’d make it home in the snowstorm mixed with ice, when they had early release for everyone but the military.

And yet, I see snow, and it’s a thrill. Not like if I had to live in it for several months of the year though.

More Snow Pictures

We would be completely at a standstill, if we’d had some of the snows others up north have. Why? No equipment to do anything about it.

Even with this amount, there were quite a few accidents–ice and snow mixed with drivers who raced along the roads like the weather conditions haven’t changed from dry and hot. Same when we have rain.

In the first picture, I would never have thought I’d be able to take a photo of the bird ornament surrounded by snow. I had grandbaby over, so I couldn’t take as many pictures as I wanted to for this historic weather event. Remember how I said we had one last year with rain? This year with the hurricane? Now this? Hmmm.

The milkweed had a blast of freezing temperatures last night and look worse for wear this morning. The rose bush was beautiful covered in snow and it still is doing well. I even had marigolds and zinnia that were flowering beautifully in the snow. I had put a sign out “Let it Snow” as a joke, but the fae (that I write about in my teen books who cause mischief in every way), must have had something to do with this.Grandbaby was watching the neighbors taking pictures of other neighbors at the time.

Our temperatures are supposed to be going up. Not today, I don’t think. But if everything can hold out, they’ll be around for a little while longer. Two years ago when I moved here, the snapdragons flowered through the winter even!

Okay, off to finish My Highlander, then send it to beta readers. Hope you all are having a beautiful weekend!

Snow in Houston?

Too early for April Fool’s.

I’ll show more pictures later. Baby is here and the electricity keeps going out. This is the 3rd time I’ve tried to write this post. Is this another historical weather event????

Okay, off to play with baby!

Hope your weather isn’t too bad. I think everyone’s got their heat on or something, to be causing the rolling blackouts.

Red Captures the Eye

Whether red is the main focus, or it’s a hint of red used as an accent, red captures the eye.

When I was a teen, I went to see Dracula with my mother at a college play. I was hooked on him, by the way, but in the scenes, everything was black and white, beautiful. Except for one red item in the scene. A red rose. A glass of red wine. That red dominated the scene.

And I finished writing My Highlander last night! I have to type up my notes, edit, re-read, but it’s done!!! Not finished, finished, but close!

I will get hungry when I’m watching a show where they’re eating constantly. I’ve had readers tell me that after reading that my characters had some meal, they want to make it.

Feeling Unfinished!

I have a bear I need to finish making and a book I need to finish writing. I have a ton of books I need to finish that I’ve started and work on when I have a chance, but I always have so many other deadline books, I can’t get to them. Soooo this morning, I’m feeling…unfinished.

A beautiful, ancient, moss-covered dyke and gorse, heather and a stream in Scotland. Perfect for taking a break, enjoying nature, reading, writing, taking pictures, just sitting there, soaking up the beauty.

Do you have unfinished business??? Hope you feel you’ve accomplished something today!! I WILL have the bear done today.

Fog and Christmas Lights

I like storms, as long as they don’t fill your house with water, tear down your trees or pull off your roofs, but a nice rainstorm clears the air, charges it with electricity, makes a change in the humdrum of weather. So we have storms coming in for the next few days.

Temperature changes can be wild too–highly fluctuating–from hot to cold, cold to hot. This morning I expected cold like it’s been, but nope, it’s hot. Well, warm. But not cold. And it’s going to be hotter, well, warmer, not cool later today.

It keeps me on my toes though. I HAVE to look at the weather report, just to get a ballpark idea. Because, as we all know, weather reports sometimes aren’t all that accurate. It’s great for changes in stories too–when the weather turns bad, or really nice. Characters have to adjust to the changes too. And it can make for great conflict.

Think of the ship breaking up in a storm. No shelter. A sunny, breezy day. A cold, rainy, blustery day. A foggy dark night. A Highlander in a kilt. *sigh* Got to get back to the story.

So this morning, we had major fog. We had it a couple of days ago, but I was busy and didn’t have time to photograph it. But methinks, wouldn’t it be fun to try and photograph the fog and Christmas lights???

And so at 4:45 this morning, that’s what I was doing, after I took the dogs out. Most everyone had their lights off, so I only had mine and one of my neighbor’s and another’s across the street to capture in the fog. Christmas lights are pretty. Fog is pretty. It was fun capturing them together.

Off to work on a bear and My Highlander. I’m halfway through edits, but still finishing the book too! Picture the Bubblegum Bear (in blue and purple) in Blue Rainbow’s larger size, the big one lying on his back. 🙂 <3 That’s what I’m currently working on. Well, I cut it out….

Yes, We Have Fall Colors!

On the walk with baby.

It’s harder to capture the autumn colors here, unlike our fellow friends in the more colorful regions of the world where fall explodes with vibrancy. So for us, capturing some of the colors here is much harder. And of course, I only brought my 50mm with me instead of the one I use to shoot for scenery because I thought I was only going to take pictures of baby. But the fall colors caught my eye too. Next time….

One year, the pear trees were wild with color. I’d never noticed it before, but I think we had just enough rainfall and cold weather to make it happen that year.

I’m back to edits on My Highlander. When baby went home last night, I was working on them, making all the changes that needed to be made as my story idea changes with the progress of the novel. It also helps me to see what I need to add to make the scenes more vivid, colorful, just like a fall scene–not flat, but memorable.

Whether you have fall or not, embrace the beauty of your world.

Somewhere, I have a picture of a rusting child’s antique car–used as a garden ornament, but unseen by most in Old Town Spring. It captured my eye as my family continued walking and I paused to take a picture. I hope it turned out and I want to share it, once I find it! Even a rusted out old toy car can be beautiful–full of stories.
