Being Random

I shot the half moon this morning before baby got here and the sea lion in the surf two years in San Diego area.

Newsletter off for the free book, word count caught up, but now I have copy edits on Billionaire Wolf Christmas to do. I’m getting close to the end of the other book, and I hate to have to stop and work on another. Puts me in a totally different set of mind, though I love the other story and enjoy reading it when it’s a finished book!

Finally managed to get baby to sleep, though I can’t put her down, so she’s sleeping on my lap and I have my hands free…for a few minutes.

I’ve been struggling all morning with my computer to try and post this. First, WordPress wouldn’t come up to allow a post. And I’ve just had trouble with everything. I was having the same issues last night, so gave up on trying to post. So here ’tis!

I’m behind on my writing word count. Confession is good for the soul, right???? Okay, then come the excuses. This book came up free, and I was scrambling to get the word out. 🙂 I did manage 1600 words yesterday, but I’m editing, not writing whole new scenes, and that means the book is getting better, but it’s not growing by leaps and bounds like when I just write new scenes. So that’s my story and I’m sticking with it.

As soon as I post this, I’m off to catch up on other stuff and then write!!!

Sunrise this morning was so bright red/pink. Yesterday sunrise was light ribbons of pink. And last night a subtle warmth.

This morning I was fighting with smoke detectors again. I counted them. Eight. That is total overkill. Between 10 ft tall ceilings and having so many of them, and they’re ridiculously close to each other, it’s hard to isolate them. I can’t just pull a battery out of the extra ones since they’re sneakily wired together. I had to stand in the hall forever, waiting for the culprit to beep again.

It’s like being on a stakeout. I’m stuck, unable to get anything done while I wait. And wait. And wait. Give up, go do something else, and it beeps. I would ignore it, but my puppies are so upset, they’re both wanting on my lap, and when I went to get the ladder, they were both cuddled together under my desk.

Three changed out…five more to go. I don’t want to change them all out at once, because you know what would happen. It’s been several months since the last one went out, and only about a week between two of them.

Yesterday was a really long babysitting day, then my daughter wanted a professional photo, so I did that. So….I didn’t make my word count from the day before, 600 words short, couldn’t make them up last night, and I need 2600 today, to get back on track.

When the Unexpected Happens

I was happily photographing flowers and playing around with an idea I had seen with a teacup and book, so created my Highland theme, when Tabby returned. He/she jumped into my lap, rubbed up against me, and claimed me as his own.

Then he proceeded to hunt squirrels (fence picture), and taunt my dogs who were sitting at the window barking, before birds overhead distracted him.

Okay, off to write. I’m coming down to the wire on deadline and the end of the story, 18K left to go, and I need to figure out how to wrap it up!! So I can get started on the next book.

Grandbaby will be one at the end of the month, so trying to figure out a theme for pictures. Her mom is big into Alice in Wonderland, so I’m thinking of doing something like that.

Oh, and because of the looming deadline of April 2nd, I keep forgetting TOMORROW is a new book release!!! You know, I wrote it last year, so it seems to me that it should already have been out a year ago. And since then, I’ve written 3 more books. 🙂

The Winter Blues or Summer Warmth

I could say I planned this. It’s what you can call creative license. Or…I could admit I forgot to change the White Balance setting from incandescent to sunlight.

I was wondering why my first photos were such a pretty blue! But just think, you can do this too! For…an artistic change! Or…not.

Jasmine Growing Wild in the Woods

I never think of plants I buy in the store as being native or naturalized in native settings in certain parts of the world. They’re just, you know, grown in pots at nurseries. So when I saw the beautiful yellow flowers in the woods behind a neighbor’s house near where I pick up my mail, I thought he must have planted them. But he hadn’t. I’ve seen them on the wetlands walk too, but didn’t realize these were growing on the walk through the development also. This time I took my camera.

The southern pines and the yaupon holly growing rampant in the pictures above are also native, and I have a few of them growing in my yard. In other places, I’ve had to buy them at the store. They’re really beautiful.

I’ve grown the Carolina Jasmine in my garden before and they’re so pretty. But it’s wonderful to have plants that normally grow in your area, and not have to baby plants that don’t like the heat, humidity, and the few days of freezes we have. I opt for easy maintenance and hardy plants, as much as possible. Sometimes even hardy plants succumb to unusual weather patterns.

I managed to get my word count for yesterday and the day before and the corgis go home to their momma and daddy tonight!

I did get more writing in this week than when I have baby here. I’m up to 57K, hope to reach 60K today. Only 23K left to go so far! Well, as far as reaching minimum word count. But this morning, I was thinking of a scene. Not exactly thinking of it, the characters had taken over and were making up their own scene. I love it when that happens. Especially when I remember it! Off to write it down before I forget it!

Dreaming Dreams that Aren’t Dreams at All

So I had to go to a place and I was told to go to one place, but nope, they didn’t do the tests there. I had to go in the opposite direction, making me travel twice as far as I would have. And then I went into one building, go over there, nope, you need to go to a different building. Nope, not here. Go to a different building. Inside, I was directed to another wing. There, I was told to go to another window. At that window, I was told nope, you need to go to the first window you were at.

But they told me to go see you. The technician walks back to the other window to straighten that lady out and it was done. A ten-minute procedure that should have taken 20-mins travel time, instead of a two-hour trip.

Now, I have to look at the bright side of things. I can use it for a story! Funny how things like that happen. Oh, and since I was fairly close to a couple of landscape places, I went into three of them before finding the shrub I’ve been looking for, for three years now! It was at the last shop I looked at and the poor little things need some water and sunlight and room, so hopefully they’ll be greening up beautifully now that they have a new home. My neighbor has 4 of them (his house was the model home, so they landscaped it beautifully) and so I’ve always wanted to get them. They’re Steeds holly and pyramidal in shape, which means normally, no need to trim them and they look great! I like low maintenance.

Okay, so last night at midnight, I hear a dog barking in my dreams. And of course, I begin to dream about it. Five miniature poodles are running all over my yard and my dogs are trying to play with them, and I am trying to take my dogs inside so the dogs quit playing and barking. Which would disturb the neighbors. Which actually happened the morning before. Not that scenario exactly, but their dogs got out, Max pushed open the door to come inside and let all the dogs out, and so chaos at 6:30 in the morning. Who sleeps that late anyway??? 🙂

Well then, I’m waking more because the dog keeps barking, and I think it’s the neighbor’s dog. It CAN’T be Rilo. I wake even more and realize it is Rilo! Okay, so I tell him to shut up and go to sleep and that does the trick. He goes to sleep. I don’t. For hours. No more dreams though. I think that has to go in a story!

Because of the long day yesterday getting other stuff done and not getting other stuff done, I didn’t get my word count OR all my errands run. I hate running errands, but that’s where I’m off to again. This time I know where I’m going though!

In Fantasy or Fiction…

We create worlds.

In the one picture I took in Scotland, I was on the bus in Edinburgh, and we saw a beautiful rainbow. But the setting wasn’t beautiful, cluttered with buildings and stuff. So I created a fictional world–from a photo I’d taken from a castle on the Isle of Skye. The scenes were both fantastical, as if being dropped into a fairy world, yet both are real. I’m sure the passengers thought my friend and I were nuts as we took as many pictures of the rainbow as we could capture while the bus kept moving along.

In the one I took of the cardinal, he was looking into the water as if peering at his reflection. But, what if–and that’s the start of a story. What if he sees himself as a hawk. Or he wishes he were a bird of prey. Or what if he realizes the hawk is above, his reflection in the water? That’s what makes creating stories from reality into fiction, or fantasy, fun. The cardinal was really at a birding stand at the cabins where we did our writer’s retreat, staring into the water. I edited the book I had to edit while there, but I also took advantage of photographing as much as could. 🙂 <3

The cooper hawk was sitting on my fence. I included an awful picture of a blurred version of the cooper hawk when he was on a different fence section and was getting ready to take off. I wouldn’t have shown it on here, but I posted it on FB to show the wing span, and one of my readers said it was a shifting hawk! There you have it! My shapeshifters shift so fast, they are a blur of forms. I love my readers. 🙂 She turned my poor photo into fantasy, and now, you know what that means? Anyone who sees a creature shifting is in trouble.

I really, really need to run errands today. I hate running them because it messes up my writing routine, then I’m struggling to get it done. If I don’t go early, though, I’ve begun to write, and then…yep, no errands. My car registration came in and I have to get a safety inspection before I can register it, so….no putting it off. That’s the mundane of life. I’d rather be photographing, creating bears, creating composites, gardening, and writing. Oh, and I did get about 60 gals of branches cut and weeds pulled yesterday. Then I moved a rock, it was starting to get too dark to work, and found a snake. Yes, it was a garden snake, but that decided it. No more gardening for the night!
