I’m off and running this morning. I wrote another 3,000 words yesterday, did all kinds of switching scenes around which changes things a lot. What? They were going to bed but now it’s daytime? Lunch is breakfast? This isn’t relevant. Oh, no, need more setup here now. Anyway, somehow with all the moving around of stuff, I still managed to write more. I’m at 95,000.
I finished edits on Night of the Billionaire Wolf and turned it in. Yay! Now I’m back to Red Wolf Christmas. It’s due in 2 weeks and I’m still working on it. It would be all right if I had it finished and was just editing it, but…it’s not finished. ugh.
This morning I moved a scene to a couple of chapters earlier. Which changes things for the next about 3 chapters. The butterfly effect. I haven’t figured out the ending, or what ties everything together yet. sigh. It’s got to come soon!
Okay, I’m off to work on it and hope your day is beautifully orchestrated.
It’s an enrichment program they have at the wolf reserve in Omaha. He didn’t just find trash lying around. They put chicken bones in it and he has to search out the prize. He found it and he took off running. MINE.
Reminds me of my granddaughter. She looked in the fridge this morning, pointed to my yogurt and said, “Mine.”
Yep, from wolves to kids, it’s the same deal.
I’m off to play with her…hope to get some work done on the story, or reading done on the other. We had rain!!! Yes! Three inches. We sure needed it.
Gardening? Ha! Somehow I forgot the meaning of low maintenance landscaping…. I put out three 40-gallon bags of weeds and grass pulled from my flowerbeds the last couple of days. Some of it is zinnia that is looking like it’s seen better days and milkweed that the aphids have pretty much destroyed. Once I removed them, I could get to the grass and weeds they were hiding. I’ve got another bag started today that is already halfway full. I’ve found ferns, crape myrtles, elm trees, pine trees and live oaks all growing in that massive tangle of plants. They’re too close to the fence (except for the ferns) so I must transplant the crape myrtles, maybe the pines, and get rid of the others.
Alpha wolf in Omaha
Okay, back to the book. It’s getting better and longer. yay!
If we’re REALLY lucky, and I mean REALLY, we’ll get some much needed rain. I’m not counting on it. But maybe I’ll be surprised. The lightning we had yesterday morning amounted to no rain.
Have a super, duper beautiful day! Mine is going to be great once I get back to writing!
One of the Facebook pages I follow: https://www.facebook.com/groups/Imaginationbyrowena/ mentioned taking something in your house and making a composite for it. So I did. It’s a fun exercise. I’m going to try it with a fairy my mother gave me years ago. This little bear paddling I picked up in Minnesota when I visited last year.
Another artist had done that using ceramic pixie figures to create composites and they were adorable.
Okay, finished 3,000 words + yesterday and I’m liking the story much better. I’m rereading all the stuff I rewrote yesterday to make sure it fits and then have to continue working on it. I’m 7,000 over word count. Yay! I’m shooting for another 8,000 words. Minimum at least 3,000.
So this morning at oh-dark-thirty, I took the dogs out and was shocked to see lightning. Maybe we’ll get rain. I wouldn’t count on it, but hoping…
Not all writing is fun. I can have a bout of total frustration. Sometimes not. I love that when it’s clear sailing all the way through. That usually doesn’t happen. With Red Wolf Christmas, I have word count, but the book isn’t finished and it wasn’t coming together. Why?
Not enough conflict. Issues in the story weren’t tied together. What turns the character’s world upside down in the beginning? Nothing. That’s it! What is wrong with the situation? It can’t be all great. It has to be conflictive. She can’t be just like her parents and her great aunt, happy about her circumstances. Happy. Happy. Happy. No. No. No.
She wants something different out of life. She’s not sure what because she’s never had the opportunity to consider anything different. The restrictions on her parents’ will says she has to do the same thing as they’ve done for a certain amount of time and she’s not happy about it. So there. Then she finally finished the time and she’s ready to do something new and her great aunt dies and leaves her in the same situation, for the same amount of stipulated time. Instead of being happy about her circumstances, she can’t wait to get out of them. It means going back in and changing some things, but that’s great!!! I don’t mind as long as I’m getting somewhere with the book and it’s working.
I also had to work all day on the other book, Night of the Billionaire Wolf. I made some changes, and now I need to read through the whole book. I’ll start that on Tuesday because I want to get somewhere with Red Wolf. I ended up taking the prologue out of Red Wolf, wrote a new one, added back in some of the other–I don’t just remove, I save in a cutout file in case I can use it. I called up one of my beta readers and brainstormed. And one of her ideas I’m going to use. I didn’t think so, but then with the new setup, I figured it would work. So I’m off to write! Yay!
Have a great day! I’m looking forward to it cooling down, being 94 tomorrow instead of in the 100s.
I have a routine. Check emails, blog, take the dogs out, feed them, take them out, do a million other things, then write.
Yesterday, I jumped into doing edits on the story. Did I tell you I received edits for another book? Sheesh. So I wanted to get some more done on this before I go back into another book. By the time I thought of blogging, it was way past time to do anything about it.
So today I spent 2 hours working on the garden, pulling up grass and weeds. With 100 degree days, I have to get it done. Early. It already feels like a sweaty 87 degrees at 8 am. Hot.
But I got a lot done, so now it’s time to get back to edits. Added 2,000 words yesterday, but need to tie the story together better. Not sure what to do to do it, but thinking on it. In the meantime, I continue to edit it because I can’t just sit around and think. I don’t have time.
