Cool Pictures for Hot Days

I took the picture of the wolves at The International Wolf Center, Ely, MN.

It’s hot. We’re supposed to have thunderstorms, but now they’re like they’re not coming in until this afternoon. Totally clear skies twenty minutes ago, and now big white fluffy clouds have appeared. Weather can change so quickly.

I have to remember to save my story to my email periodically. I’ll be typing away and because of the heat and everyone using AC, we’ve had a lot of electric outages. Just briefly, but enough to shut down the computer in the middle of writing and there’s nothing worse than losing 200-300 words in one flicker of an outage. At least when I’m on my laptop, the battery kicks in.

Hope you all have a safe and fun day! Little one is arriving and I’ve got to get busy. Managed 500 words this morning. Hope to at least get a 1,000 words today.

A Butterfly on Zinnia

Playing around with textures and cropping the photo at different closeness. I thought it was cool in the really close picture that you can see the pollen on the butterfly.

Yesterday, I had fun with the kids from the morning through lunch and still managed to get 3,000 words. Yay! That all has to do with doing some research and coming up with a fun side trip in the story. I have to start taking little one two days a week starting tomorrow, two weeks early, so I’ll miss my word count that day. Hope to make up for it by writing more today. I was torn–weed, which I desperately need to do, or just write.

Tomorrow, it’s supposed to be a little cooler. Maybe I’ll weed this week instead. See how easy it is to put off the inevitable?

I did walk today anyway!

Have a great day and stay safe!

Water in the Garden

It’s so hot, seeing water in the garden helps to cool things down–visually. But also, the birds are panting so much, they need water too. The blanket flower is in a field of flowers. They’re so pretty and are doing great in this heat, humidity and no rain. Every day I look at the weather, it says we’re going to get rain a few days from now, but then it’s gone. No rain. *sigh*

It’s only around 90 today and for a few days, yay! A break from the 98+. Ever little bit helps. Cloud cover helps. But I see the sun. *sigh*

Okay, I’m off to write a little. Getting together with the kids at 9 and again at 6 pm, so need to get some writing done before and between!

Have a fun day and stay safe!

Photography Art and Plain Photos

Wallaby and joey from San Diego, fuchsia flower from walk, pink flowers at arboretum in Minnesota.

It was so fun traveling around. I don’t go very often, maybe once a year to some place new, so I hope we will be able to again sometime in the not too distant future–like next year.

Getting together with my daughter and granddaughter today. Next week is the last time we get to do this and then she’s back to her regular hours, 5 days a week. This has always been a special time for us, but more so now with the uncertainty of the pandemic.

Have a great day, and hope you don’t get tired of hearing this, but please stay safe!

Creating Photo Art

While I’m writing, I’m also creating photo art. I get stuck, I play with a photo. The flower and butterfly photo was taken in San Diego, the big bird in Dallas.

Because of COVID 19 in my area, my daughter had to take my granddaughter out of daycare. I’ll be taking care of her 2 days a week starting next week, when normally I wouldn’t have had to for 2 more weeks. Which means I need to write faster! Before that happens.

Have a great and safe day!

Flamingo Mom and Baby

We can always learn something new no matter how old we get. When I saw the flamingos on their nests, I’d never imagined they would build towers like that. I knew flamingos got their pink color from shrimp and krill, but I didn’t know if they weren’t fed pink food, they would be gray, just like the new babies.

Okay, little one is here, and it’s going to be another scorcher of a day. 110 index yesterday, same today.

Have a beautiful and safe day!

Wolf Art

Arctic wolf Axel and Boltz gray wolf. Axel was vying to be pack leader. Boltz was acting like an omega wolf! Everyone else was sleeping in one den. Boltz was in another.

Okay, I’m running late on blogs in the mornings. Yesterday, I ran to the grocery store at 8:30, forgot they opened at 8, first time in 4 weeks. But I took a walk first. It’s soooooo muggy out. I was moving pavers this morning, took my walk, felt like I’d been in a sauna and surely, surely, I melted away some fat. LOL

So I’ve been managing 3,000 words a day on Wolff Bros. Have 15K now on it. Sixty-five thousand more to go.

It’s going to be 99 today, which means about 109 heat index. I want to put out a bag of bark mulch and plant two crepe myrtle seedlings before it gets any hotter. And then I have to buckle down on the book.

Have a super great day! Keep cool and stay safe!

Green Heron and a Field of Wild Blanket Flowers

There’s nothing like having water in the garden as hot as it is right now, and the birds will probably love the little birdbath with the solar bubbler once they get used to it. They love the fountain. I love water!

So on my HOT, HOT, HOT walk yesterday, it was super muggy and 93 heat index at 7 am. So keeping my lens from fogging up was a struggle. lol

The green heron/blackbird, dove, was a green heron. The sun was shining so brightly off the water, I couldn’t make it out. From the distance I was, and the sun and the foggy camera, it was hard to tell. The green heron, like other herons, have a long neck, but they often keep them tucked close like this–at least when I see them.

Also, this is one of the pictures of the blanket flowers. Several weren’t any good because right after I cleaned my lens it would fog right back up. *sigh*

I spent the evening dancing and having grilled burgers with the kids last night. Well, my daughter and I dancerized, and my granddaughter did a little. We usually have two barking corgis getting underfoot and my granddaughter sometimes gets in the way, or grabs our legs for a hug and my daughter and I spend a lot of time laughing. That exercises our stomach muscles. lol

I did manage 2,000 on Wolff Bros (8,000), and 1,000 on Cougar (14,000).

Hope you are all having a safe and great weekend!

The Photo Bug

This photo was taken in July in San Diego.

I’ve been seeing the beautiful blanket flowers growing wild in a field whenever I drive past it to go to my daughter’s house, and EVERY time, I want to photograph them. But it’s hot out! Even at 7 this morning, it feels like 93 degrees. But I did it. Drove to the clubhouse and walked from their to the field of wildflowers and took pictures to my heart’s content. My lens glass kept fogging up. It was MUGGY and HOT. I’m still trying to cool down. But I also took pictures of lichen, I think it is, and other flowers, reflections of crepe myrtles in a pond, wild grasses, and a bird. I couldn’t tell what it was with the way the light was reflecting off the water. Maybe a heron, maybe a crow or a dove. I really couldn’t tell.

We had 109 heat index yesterday, probably the same or higher today because it’s supposed to get to 98.

Unfortunately, my camera isn’t automatically uploading pictures to my computer any longer. It does this periodically, total pain. So I have to do it manually, and those tiny little frames are hard to tell what the picture is, for me. Anyway, so I hope I got some good shots of the flowers and all to share in the coming week. Despite the heat, I always feel better when I can photograph something!

I managed 3,000 on Wolff Bros yesterday (6,000 now), and 1,000 on You Had Me at Cougar (13K now). That was after spending the morning and having lunch with the kids, so I didn’t get to writing until 3 pm. So now, I’m off to write!!

Have a great day!

Flamingo Art

I don’t know what happened to yesterday. I meant to blog first thing, but by about 11, I realized I hadn’t! These are some photo art I did of a bunch of flamingos that were sitting on nests at the San Diego Zoo. I wanted to have just the one standing in front with the egg, and the 2 stretching out to each other, sitting on nests, but there’s another on a nest in between the one standing and the one sitting, so I had to leave that one in. Still, I love the action in the photo.

I wrote 6,000 words yesterday: 3,000 on the new Wolff Bros story (just started), 2,000 on You Had Me at Cougar (at 12K now), and 1000 on Cougar Halloween Trouble (novella for Halloween, just started).

If I get 3,000 a day on Wolff Bros, I hope to write some on one of the cougars and keep them going. I’m hoping to have You Had Me at Cougar out by November, and Cougar Halloween out for Halloween, but we’ll have to see. I still think I have to write a Dreaming of the Wolf novella.

In the meantime, I’m off to play with my daughter and granddaughter. My daughter works longer hours during the week when school is out and then she’s off on Fridays, so we try to get together and have some fun. That means for me, I have to work on the stories before she comes over about 8:30.

It’s hot–yesterday managed 105 heat index and it’s not cooling down anytime soon!

Have a great and safe day!!!
